"Thoughts on the team split option."
I'm surprised nobody has started a thread to discuss the (possible) dumping of a team member and all that it entails.

Just why would the producers decided to add that twist of dropping one team member?
When you think about it, anyone who does get cut out of the hunt (if any, we don't really know yet) will be so upset, it could easily ruin the relationship forever. I know there are some players who probably can't go the whole way to the end because it's too much for that person. However, being left behind and not knowing if they qualify for a share of the treasure if their team finds it, could make anyone flip. Also knowing your team would rather kick you out than risk elimination is bad enough, but put it on TV for the world to see really sucks. So why would that twist be included? It would almost set up the other two members for a trip to court - I'm sure anyone who gets cut out could consider suing them - they all signed up for the hunt together, who are they to decide that one isn't worthy of going on to the end... etc etc etc. Giving 2 the chance to win at the expense of one member seems strange, unless there's a reason for it, something that might tie in later on. (see below)

Another thing I've been wondering about. .. IF a team does decide to leave a member behind, does that person get to share in the prize if the team finds it first? There are all kinds of questions that pop up with a team split.

"What if" ... there's another team split farther down the road, say the last 2 or 3 legs? Split up if you want, if you think you can manage better on your own, figure out the clues by yourself and not have to share the prize. Or stay together and have 2 (or 3) people working on the clues, but you have to share the prize in the end. Having the whole team get the option of splitting and going it alone later on might just offset the problems of the earlier split?

Having the teams split again later on would be fun, at least for me watching the show.

I think it's a cool twist. On other shows, peopl always quantify a vote with ,"I had to vote for somebody." I doubt the producers thought anyone would use it, or it may have been invented on the fly to keep a 2nd team from dropping out due to injury. I'm thinking the next leg will have an exhausting multiperson task that will eliminate and team that uses that option as punishment or, more likely, it's just a fake out to create tension on a team (ie. the abandoned player is waiting at the next hotel, and he's POed).

It seems very few teams are even considering spliting up.

Well, it seems if the Fogals had let thier daugther go that she would have agreed with the decision.

The Browns will like the idea that losing a team member does not disqualify thier team (hey, that explains the trash talk of the Harlons on the NBC forums. Without this option they would have been back into the game.)

The Genius team already had a problem with thier slow member, he already was getting very hostile. If they let him go it may be no worse than if they kept him. There was still resentment building better him and the other two team members.

I don't think the Fogal daughter would've been okay with it. She may have said that she wanted to be left behind, but she would've thrown a major hissy fit if they really had left her behind.

Trust me. I know. My sister is a major drama queen.

I just never understood where they went after they dropped off a team member. Did they just ride around making a decision? I hope they don't include this option in any future shows.

Welcome to the boards Kpacheco: The boat could only carry two players at a time, so it crossed the marsh in presumably 1 1/2 hour. Once there, the 2 players had a decision to make: Continue on or go back for their third. The teams left one member on the far end of the marsh and one came back to retrieve the waiting teammate thus losing 3 hours to a team that would have carried on.

Was it a different boat that would hold 3 people, then? And did anyone not come back for their team member?

What struck me last night was that it must just have been an option they came up with when the Brown brother was injured (in terms of the 6 hour penalty). Otherwise, why wouldn't the team with the woman with the hurt knee have discussed just continuing with two?

I do wish they would post some sort of ground rules. Other than that, I love the fact that this show actually involves using your brains...and brawn!

It seemed to me that they'd created the 'drop one team member' option before the Brown brother got injured. Other teams had already recieved the Motorola™ message by the time the injury happened, but it may be the editing.
