"Episode 3: Going to the Dogs" |
Designers attempt to make a woman and a dog look good together. First, I loved the idea only because the objective of the challenge was to come up with a narrative for each woman and their dog. Making up a story/theme, matching the outfit, hair/makeup etc. It was great to see Alison really take charge with this challenge, she deserved to win in my opinion because she really got into the details and also made an incredible outfit for both the model and the dog.Uli ended up winning. Granted her dress was great! Her dog kinda matched but was a little uninspired for me. (I guess pandering to the lady judges works.) I'm fairly shocked Angela made it through again. But at least she designed something this week. It looked awful together and din't have a clear narrative. Nor was her dog outfit anywhere near interesting. But she made it. Katherine ended up being the designer to leave because she obviously spent more time on the dog outfit than on her dress. That Silk Hoodie was adorable. Almost adorable enough to go out and buy a girl puppy dog just so I can purchase her that outfit. Alas, this isn't Project Westminster.

I think Keith because of the collar that he put on the dog.

I think Keith as well but because he has such a bad attitude that I think he does something next week that will get him in trouble.

I think if Catherine had heeded Tim's advice and made a matching shrug or hoodie for her model, she would have been safe. Angela's outfit was really atrocious, in my opinion. The top had those spread-out cups that totally flattened her model, and it looked to me like the waist on her skirt was rolling down. Obviously I'm not fashion-savvy, because Vera Wang thought it was great (ugh!)

What does Vera Wang know" I have never liked anything that she has done. Some of her bridal gowns are extremey stupid looking. When you buy Vera - you are just buying the name. As for myself, I'd rather get married in a paper grocery bag as to one of her gowns. Just my extremely humble opinion.

LAST EDITED ON 07-29-06 AT 00:36 AM (EST)>What does Vera Wang know" Vera seemed very programmed to me, as if during one the huddle-ups the judges do she was told what to say. Michael Kors needs to get back and pronto.
eta: weird, but I don't see my original reply so I'll just say, I agree with you! And, basically, Vera isn't doing her career any favors by appearing on PR.

I was surprised that Angela wasn't booted. To me, her outfit looked like something pulled together from some old bags of clothes (and the bag itself.) Old bags of clothes from the 80s. Which the 80s rejected. It just needed legwarmers.I get it, she likes those taffeta poofy skirts - so much that she wears them herself. I understand that there's a wide range of fashion tastes out there, but if I saw someone walking down the street in that get-up I'd wonder from what movie set she'd escaped. (Who's That Girl part II?) When I saw Bradley's model come down the runway I was pretty sure he'd be safe. His blouse reminded me (slightly) of the top Daniel V. made last season in the photo inspiration challenge. Oh Keith, you're so pompous. I'd like to hate you, but for some reason I don't. That dress? Lovely. Vincent, what's with you and the hats? Michael has been under the radar so far, but he has been turning out some really beautiful, elegant dresses. I've been surprised each week that his designs haven't been in the top, but as long as he stays safe I can look forward to what he'll come up with next. What I said about Michael? Goes for Laura, too. Her designs are very tailored and look expensive, and it surprises me that she manages to come up with that look on a small budget. My worry for her is that so far, her style reminds me of the "matronly" section of the flagship department stores (and not necessarily young or modern.) Classic - yes. Beautiful - yes. Now, believe me, I know that not everything needs to be young and modern, but I guess I'd like to see Laura's range. I thought Katharine's dress was very pretty, albeit simple. I agree, that had she made a hoodie for the model she would have been safe. I thought her dress was infinitely better than Angela's, but it seems that this season, if you're making big construction errors, you're toast.

I thought this week all the designers stepped up and had some good designs to offer. I was really impressed.Michael has been under the radar so far, but he has been turning out some really beautiful, elegant dresses. I've been surprised each week that his designs haven't been in the top, but as long as he stays safe I can look forward to what he'll come up with next. I wonder why the show has basically ignored him so far. His design last night was really outstanding, my favorite, and we just don't get to see it during the show at all. I wonder if he turns out to be a frontrunner so we'll see more of him later. Hope so. I basically hated Bradley's design. I couldn't believe it when the judges loved it so much. Tribe rocks my sig

I was so totally blown away that Bradley got such good reviews from the Judges. I almost fell off my couch. It just goes to show you how editing can make you think one thing and the outcome is totally different. I thought his outfit was not good at all.

If Angela is gum, she's one of those obnoxiously fruity neon-colored gums, like Bubbalicious. Just as sticky, too, apparently.

How come nobody designed a dog pooper scooper? Or maybe they did...I was so distracted by the runway spectacle I may not have noticed. ya know...the dogs were cute and all but the concept was just too goofy. I'm with Keith on that. (But then I felt the same way about the Barbie assignment, too. Was stupid, imo.) And the Trump daughter as a judge? What a joke! Exactly what qualifies her I'd like to know. What's wrong with straight forward assignments with no gimmicks? I sure hope the nonsense is about over and these designers are allowed to really get down to showing us what they got.

the dogs were cute and all but the concept was just too goofy. and I sure hope the nonsense is about over and these designers are allowed to really get down to showing us what they got.I think that Keith along with quite a few of the others completely missed the point of this challenge. Sure on the surface it's about making a dog sweater and a "matching" dress. But the producers were on target with trying to get the contestants to focus on the entire package. "Come up with a story about your woman. Why she has the dog? What is she doing? Where does she live? etc." This was purely to encourage the designers to really think about having a statement, with their designs. Besides, if Keith (or many of the others) ever is in the position to have his own runway show he's gonna have to think about all aspects of a show. Not just the dresses but the theme, the hair, the lighting, the music, the makeup and yes maybe even an accessory on a leash. I said this above but I'll restate it here. Alison should have won this challenge. Her whole package was thought out and well executed. Dog, dress, hair, makeup, theme, story, vision. IMO, Uli's dress was cute but her whole package fell a bit short. She makes up for it by already possesing a personal design vision. They'll all find out soon enough when more and more of the "scatterbrained" non-consistent, "visionless" players start exposing themselves. People with a clear vision of their design style will succeed in this game. It's what the judges look for. Including VeraWang. Who does indeed have a vision. Not one I'm personally attacted to but it is done with a vision of her design style.

> >Oh Keith, you're so pompous. >I'd like to hate you, >but for some reason I >don't. That dress? >Lovely. > True. And I thought it was odd (even mean-spirited) they mentioned he would have won had he designed something for the dog. His dress was elegant and oh my, the colors, just beautiful. Too bad we couldn't see the construction all that well, thanks to that foolish looking dog. Angela should have gotten the boot. Why she didn't is a mystery and it totally escapes me how that mess o' material she put together is considered 'well constructed'. It was absolutely the worse design I've seen on PR. Laura - she's starting to get boring and it's only what..three weeks now? That said, I'd probably trust her the most at this point to design something for me. I forget now who did the chanel plaid skirt and top - loved that one.
