I totally agree with you SilverStar. I was on Andrea's side also, and couldn't believe it when the judges told her she wasn't the team player! How can you be a team player when your "team" won't let you play! Vincent is only being kept on the show because of the dramatic element he adds if you ask me. I actually felt sorry for Malan (sp?) when he was eliminated.

Tim's Blog persuasively pointed out that if people were being kept for their personalities, Malan would not have been cut this week. Andrea's comments to the judges led them to conclude that she was not a team player. She should have said to the judges that she wanted to help, but was shut out by a team leader who thought he was the Lone Ranger. I think Vincent will be gone before too many more weeks but Miss USA said that she liked his design a lot, except for the sleeves. We never saw Andrea try to give him a clue about those sleeves. Either he did not give her a chance to comment or she did not notice anything wrong with the sleeves or both.

I was shocked at the results too. Then when I saw when the judges chastise her for not being a team player I figured there were scenes we didn't see. But Tim's blog shows that he sided with Angela also, so ...

I have yet to see the episode (dratted 10:00 timeslot) and I don't mean to quibble but I think Tim's blog is more ambivalent than you imply. "I was pissed at Vincent for his exclusionary behavior, and I was pissed at Angela for being so “whatever” about it all -- she was like a limp rag doll slumped over in the corner. In her behalf, I will say that she tried to work with Vincent, including offering feedback about his design, but he would have none of it. I stepped in several times to facilitate a discussion between them, but Vincent was intractable. Quel frustration! In the end, Vincent produced a dull column of green silk with puckering hems and the most preposterous epaulets. What was he thinking? I don’t think I want to know. And Angela, please stop your petulance!" So I think he's saying Vincent was a jerk, but Angela just lay back and took it. Not exactly "on her side."

Totally. Malan was a bit out there at first, but I was really beginning to warm up to him -- I found that little giggle of his endearing. He was taking the work VERY seriously, and we often heard him complimenting other designers, really trying to get along. Vincent is a whiner and Angela is a manipulator -- we only get an hour, and I got bored spending so much of it watching them hiss at each other. Tim says it's not about personality, and he's right, it shouldn't be. So why can't we see more of the work the less dysfunctional types are up to? I'm constantly amazed when something great comes down the runway and we didn't see anything about the process that went into it.

Yes, Malan is a doll once you get past the accent, which I do believe is real. I'm sorry, but that dress Malan designed was horrid. Wrong color and the design was poor. How could he make such an obvious mistake as not buying enough fabric? But I doubt if PR will bring back a designer once he's been cut; it was a fair cut.

I tend to think the problem was primarily Angela's, and here's why.She completely ignored the sketching portion, electing instead to zero in on the person she thought would be easiest to coat-tail. Unfortunately, he (and everyone else) was on to her plan. She even went so far as to NOT sketch anything, ask Tara two very stupid and pointless questions, AND leave the interview thinking that she could simply coast in on the work of someone else. Her not so subtle approach then resulted in ALL of the 7 team leaders to resolve not to pick her as their second. Vincent, like it or not, got STUCK with her. Had the luck of the draw been another designer, she still would have tried to distance herself if she didnt "agree" with the design, and drop the ball. That and that alone is why I think she should have been tossed out on her ear, even if that dress by Milan was a log with an unfinished hem. She wasnt a team player, and she was not interested in designing a gown. Since the premise of this show is to prove you are an overall designer -- she didn't and should have been tossed.

That's how I saw it, too, Sunny_Bunny. It bothered me that Angela's entire plan was to ride on someone else's coattails, so I think I was inclined from the beginning to be on her unfortunate partner's side. The look on Miss USA's face was kind of funny when Angela sat down and basically wasted a few minutes of her time. I think Vincent was inclined from the get-go to ignore her, too. I don't think he approached it in the right way, but he was pretty clear that she wasn't due any credit (or blame) for the dress. It'd have felt differently about him had he blamed her for anything other than annoying the bejeezus out of him. There's something I liked about Vincent from the get-go, I don't know what, but I have to admit that I've been disappointed in his designs. I thought the pageant gown was kinda ugly and was surprised that the judging panel liked it. Maybe the green looked different on my TV than it did in person. I don't think Vincent has too many weeks left in him. I did think it was funny when Angela tried to talk about how awful the dress was, and Miss USA cut her off and disagreed with her. Ha! I felt pretty bad for Malan, and I would have liked to see Angela go home, but I really think that it makes more sense to send someone home for a poor design that they're responsible for, than just "not being a team player." (Malan's partner (Katharine?) was also not allowed much input and basically washed her hands of his design as well, and I didn't think she should have been booted.) So, I actually agree with the Malan boot, sad as that makes me. The built-out chest parts of his dress looked like squished Hostess cupcakes.

While teamwork was part of the challenge, there is no getting around bad design and execution. Vincent made (except for those sleeves) a decent looking dress DESPITE of Angela's presence. Malan, with a willing helper, still did not pull off the challenge to success or to completion. Even if Malan's dress was short, I would still have hemmed the bottom; it is sad when he seemed to give up and leave it ragged with threads hanging.

I believe that Malan's dress was the bottom dress. Is that why he was booted out instead of Andrea? I agree that his dress was the worst, but I think Andrea should have left before him.

I'm kinda torn between Vincent and Angela.Yep, she just wanted to ride someone's coat-tails to safety and was a pain the butt to work with, and probably would have been for everyone. However, Vincent's reaction to the partner-from-heck just annoyed the carp out of me. Leaders at least try to find away to get people to partipate on the team. Now we didn't see everything, but his response to the few times she did seem to try to be a part of the team were not stellar, IMO. He would have probably driven me out of my tree and I would find it hard to be a willing partner on his team. She still needed to find a way to make what she could do look as good as possible, and Vincent needs to figure out how to be the boss without the smug I'm the leader so there na nee na nee boo boo attitude. I don't know if either of them would have been decent partners based on what I saw in the show. However, the two of them together was probably the worst possible combination. It's a tribe creation!

LAST EDITED ON 07-28-06 AT 11:14 PM (EST)IMO, both Angela and Vincent can go. I'm wondering now why they were even chosen to begin with. For drama perhaps. But who wants to see two boring, untalented, sloppy drama queens eat up time on the show? NOT ME! And as for the judges giving Vincent more or less a thumbs up on that Sewing 101 green thing, I was mortified. The sleeves - LOL! (Vincent, your mother ship is calling) Vincent is a smucky con who thinks his phony laugh and temperamental persona is going to get him by. I find him horribly distracting to an otherwise interesting group of designers. (Angela excluded, of course)

Of course you're not alone! Angela was kinda slimy in her attempt to work with someone that she thought would win. But she tried to work with him and help him.

And, sadly, Vincent skated through again. But not without blatantly trying to cover himself by acting like he didn't like his team leader's design. Coward.

Seriously though....If you were a GAY "jet-setter" you might have paid a ton of money for KAYNE'S shirt! I know people who actually loved that outfit! HAHA! I've seen similar things in the clubs around here, so I was actually surprised by the judge's reaction!
