"I don't get the judges comments about Jeffrey..."
OK, they give him 2 wins in a row, and when he comes up with another punk-rocker themed garment, they diss him for doing the same thing over and over again.

I know this was a 'cocktail party' themed outfit. BUT, he is who he is, and in MY opinion, they set him up by pumping up his ego with all that talk about 'freshness, newness, and being so relieved that SOMEONE could produce garments that weren't last season'.

Am I totally confused here, or are they sending him a mixed message???

Misty ~

Take note of the disclaimer that runs during the credits at the end of the show. It states, in so many words, that the producers of the show influence the judges scoring. In my opinion, it would work to the advantage of the producers to create the drama this type of "mixed message" sends out.

I have no doubt that's what they wear to the cocktail parties Jeffrey gets invited to. They never said what age group or whose cocktail party the dress was for. To me, Jeffrey fit right in.

On the subject of Jeffrey, don't you think he needs some serious help with his personal wardrobe? Last night I thought he looked like something the cat dragged in! If I see that tattered orange striped shirt again I'm going to scream. I think he stole that shirt from Freddy Kruger!
Ugh, and I won't even begin to go off on the lovely neck tattoo. The guy is pretty ugly to begin with, he didn't need to make it worse!

I think this is Jeffrey's style, and he LOVES to make people squirm. At least that is MY impression of him.

If he can make people focus on the ugly, nasty things he has all over his body (although others feel that it is artsy), he doesn't have to show any emotion or actually be REAL.

I really think in his trueness, he is nothing more than the Velveteen Rabbit, waiting to become real-just needing the right love and rubbing by the right person. There is something about him that makes my heart hurt.

I agree. It's like he wants people to see that he is "damaged". I think he has some growing up to do.

ME TOO. His are nice. I'm not even into tattoos. I find Jeffrey to be very emotional and not able to mask or hide his emotions. He will be displaying some more IMHO. I could bet on that, especially if he wins.

Yep, sounds reasonable that adding some drama to an otherwise boring episode (sans Laura's hormonal outages) would help the ratings.

And it also makes sense that someone who's 42 and obviously fairly conservative would create something so different than wild-child Jeffrey, who has just moved off the streets into the loft.

What it all boils down to, is double-talk, double messages, and wanting to trip up the viewer, which they are doing a darned good job of. Too bad WE don't get a vote in this at all.

I personally can't wait to see the final 3 at their entire best marketing and designing skills!

8. "RE: I don't get the judges comments about Jeffrey..."
Sometimes I think part of the problem with the message of the judging is I think we get a few sound bites out of the whole session and it is easy to get things so out of context they make no sense, especially week to week.

I also think sometimes for me the conflicting message make sense.

Something that works in one competition may not work in another, or it was OK when it was a5 on the 1-10 way over the top scale but not OK when it is a 10 on the over the top scale. Sometimes they take what is good about what they do too far and then it becomes too costumy or too "float in a parade" or too whatever. I think there is often a pretty thin line between outstanding and outlandish and some of the designers wander back and forth over that line, a lot. Sometimes you can tell from Tim's comments when something is riding that line and it could go either way at the end.

They do seem to be looking for a combination of "point of view" and versitility. So sometimes you might get praised for your strong point of view when it worked, but get docked for doing the same thing too many times in a row because now we think you cannot do anything else and this time it didn't work.

I think that everyone can have their own style, but when you are given instructions, you need to follow them and try to stray for your actual technique. When you actually have your own line of clothing, you can do whatever you want.

I would imagine it being hard for an artist to take direction from someone else. I can remember constantly being repremanded in photography class for not following the assignment instructions. It was more fun to be singled out by the instructor and have the work recognized. It didn't matter whether it was wrong as long as I believed in it. Of course, this attitude is detrimental in a competition, but I understand the reasoning behind it.
