"Martha vs. Donald" |
LAST EDITED ON 09-23-05 AT 05:20 PM (EST)Now that both shows have aired, do you have a preference? I think it may be easier to watch Martha. She has more tv experience and is much more comfortable in front of the camera. By now, in season 4, Donald's way of yelling from his cue cards is SO IRRITATING, I may not be able to watch anymore. Unfortunately, both shows use the same cheesy music. Blecch. Just awful. However, Donald's show does have more of a New York edge, a get-to-the-point bluster that is appealing. Plus, there's George & Caroline. The suite is more fun to look at (Martha's tasteful decor is rather dull) but Martha's loft has all that wonderful daylight. Both shows are blatantly self-promoting, but Donald's is more over-the-top. (Is that a plus or minus? I don't know.) As far as the tasks and characters, I don't have an opinion yet. I have a feeling Martha's show may not show as much of New York City, but I could be mistaken. Think of photos of where Trump lives, and then of photos where Martha lives. Each have decidedly different ideas of what is "classy." (How's that for an understatement?) Both shows already reflect this sensiblility.

>>I really thought I wouldn't be >>able to watch Martha because >>I hate her passionately >>("Its a good thing" sends >>me into a homicidal rage). >> However, to my great >>surprise I didn't hurl...anything at >>the TV I don't take the show quite as seriously as you do, I guess. I didn't get that enraged at all. Plus we barely saw her, most of the shows focus was on the candidates. I however do, enjoy both Apprentises. I think Donald and Martha are 2 very successful, intelligent human beings and that is why they are where they are today. I will continue to watch both shows. I find Donalds apprentises to be more mature and more managable then Martha's. Martha has hand picked a few school children winers. Hopefully out of that bunch, there will be one good candidate, capable of the job. >>I was really surprise how uncomfortable >> Martha was! She >>really seemed to bumble along >>and was obviously reading her >>notes in places.
Well she is out of her element, give her time to warm up to the whole reality TV thing. She will as Donald did, get more adjusted as time goes on. I have alway found that people "sterio type" business women as "b*tchy". If a business man was to react in the same manner, it would be accepted and not even thought. But when a woman shows authority she is considered a B*tch. How sterio typical is that ! Obviously she knows how to get things done, and for that I admire her. And I didn't think she was remotely bitchy at all, she appeared to be in good spirits that day and rather pleasant. And even when she had bickering morons in front of her, she didn't loose her temper or even raise her voice. She didn't even flinch. I watched the tape several times over and I still do not see what was b*tchy about her that episode. She is just doing her job.

I actually like both and find them different. I love the way Martha shows personal feelings toward the contestants. I really enjoy her show a lot and am surprised the ratings are low. I think that being against LOST put her in a hole and hope they move it.

5. "RE: Martha vs. Donald -- in the ratings." |
I personally find the Donald's show more engaging. Martha seems to be struggling to come off very positive on the show. I'm still waiting to see her aggressive side. Some of these contestants are ruthless and incompetent. The whole Matchstick team is a joke reminiscent of last season's NetWorth team. Martha should be able to call them out on their behavior, but she seems to take a passive role. Alexis doesn't look competent enough to be imparting words of wisdom or judgement on any of these candidates. And the old guy spends more time sucking on his cigar than saying anything meaningful. It's kinda frustrating! The board rooms (conference room) scenes are the best part of "The Apprentice", but on Martha's show, it is so anti-climatic that I don't care who gets the ax at the end.

7. "RE: Martha vs. Donald" |
Although Donald's tasks definitely have a "been there, done that" feel to them (weren't the guys, including Chris from last season also gloating about the car brochure?) I realize how much George and Carolyn bring to the show compared to Martha's helpers who don't even deserve the title "George and Carolyn-lite". I really respect George and Carolyn's opinions and even if Carolyn sometimes seems to echo Trump, she'll call someone out when he/she deserves it. I've always liked George. For me, they're what makes Donald's show more appealing. So far, neither Charles nor Alexis have contributed anything to the show, except for a lively discussion about the cigar.

Now that both shows have aired, do you have a preference?YES, MARTHA! I think it may be easier to watch Martha. She has more tv experience and is much more comfortable in front of the camera. YES, AND SHE DOESN'T SEEM DEVIOUS AS DT DOES. By now, in season 4, Donald's way of yelling from his cue cards is SO IRRITATING, I may not be able to watch anymore. I'M WAITING FOR HIM TO RELEAST AP3 ON DVD, THEN MAYBE I'LL WATCH AGAIN. Unfortunately, both shows use the same cheesy music. Blecch. Just awful. YOU CAN BLAME MB FOR THAT. MARTHA WOULD PROBABLY HAVE SOME TASTEFUL JAZZY TYPE, COFFEE-HOUSE MUSIC ON IN THE BACKGROUND. However, Donald's show does have more of a New York edge, a get-to-the-point bluster that is appealing. Plus, there's George & Caroline. NEW YORK EDGE?... The suite is more fun to look at (Martha's tasteful decor is rather dull) but Martha's loft has all that wonderful daylight. IT IS NICE, BUT TOO MUCH CHROME FOR MY TASTE... IT'S LIKE LIVING IN A SAUCE PAN... FITS THOUGH! Both shows are blatantly self-promoting, but Donald's is more over-the-top. (Is that a plus or minus? I don't know.) DOES THAT MEAN I HAVE TO THROW AWAY MY APPRENTICE UNDERWEAR? As far as the tasks and characters, I don't have an opinion yet. I have a feeling Martha's show may not show as much of New York City, but I could be mistaken. THE TASKS SEEM TO FIT THE LADY AND HER COMPANY. Think of photos of where Trump lives, and then of photos where Martha lives. Each have decidedly different ideas of what is "classy." (How's that for an understatement?) Both shows already reflect this sensiblility. DONALD IS REALLY INTO THE ROMAN PUNISHMENT THING, BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING THING. PERSONALLY, I DON'T THINK WE'VE SEEN ENOUGH OF MARTHA YET. IT'S SUCH A PERFECT TRANSITION FOR HER AFTER BEING AT THAT PLACE. http://news.yahoo.com/comics/

I am not a martha fan, but I watched the 2nd show because I like Trump's Apprentice. Martha's show is nothing but a tepid knockoff. And where are the black people? Maybe she had enough of dealing with them in the big house and decided not to select any for her show. This is probably why it's sooooo boring! Monocramatic works sometimes, but this show needs some vivid, vibrant color. www.chocolatesleuth.com---mystery reviews

That's a good point. Maybe if they staggered Donald's version then Martha's version they'd get an overall ratings boost!
