"Martha vs. Donald"
LAST EDITED ON 09-23-05 AT 05:20 PM (EST)

Now that both shows have aired, do you have a preference?

I think it may be easier to watch Martha. She has more tv experience and is much more comfortable in front of the camera.

By now, in season 4, Donald's way of yelling from his cue cards is SO IRRITATING, I may not be able to watch anymore.

Unfortunately, both shows use the same cheesy music. Blecch. Just awful.

However, Donald's show does have more of a New York edge, a get-to-the-point bluster that is appealing. Plus, there's George & Caroline.

The suite is more fun to look at (Martha's tasteful decor is rather dull) but Martha's loft has all that wonderful daylight.

Both shows are blatantly self-promoting, but Donald's is more over-the-top. (Is that a plus or minus? I don't know.)

As far as the tasks and characters, I don't have an opinion yet. I have a feeling Martha's show may not show as much of New York City, but I could be mistaken.

Think of photos of where Trump lives, and then of photos where Martha lives. Each have decidedly different ideas of what is "classy." (How's that for an understatement?) Both shows already reflect this sensiblility.

1. "RE: Martha vs. Donald"
I really thought I wouldn't be able to watch Martha because I hate her passionately ("Its a good thing" sends me into a homicidal rage). However, to my great surprise I didn't hurl...anything at the TV

I was really surprise how uncomfortable Martha was! She really seemed to bumble along and was obviously reading her notes in places. Granted, the few times I saw her pre-BigHouse program, she seemed very stilted also.

What I think will be interesting to watch is the internal conflict Martha has between her Stepford wife public face and her well-known b!tchy private side. Maybe we'll be lucky and actually see her head explode

I remember Martha when she first appeared on Oprah many many years ago. I don't think she is bumbling or uncomfortable. I think it's just HER delivery. She sounded the same back then and on her other show that was on prior to her arrest. I find her fascinating...but then again, if you hate her you'd see all negative.
Personally, I don't think Martha is any more bitchy then any other top executive. I'm sure Donald rolls heads all the time, but people tend to think that's ok since he's male. I read that Oprah can be a ##### and so was Rosie O'Donald. But they have different personalities so people are more forgiving.

I don't take the show quite as seriously as you do, I guess.
I didn't get that enraged at all. Plus we barely saw her, most of the shows focus was on the candidates.

I however do, enjoy both Apprentises.
I think Donald and Martha are 2 very successful, intelligent human beings and that is why they are where they are today.
I will continue to watch both shows.
I find Donalds apprentises to be more mature and more managable then Martha's. Martha has hand picked a few school children winers. Hopefully out of that bunch, there will be one good candidate, capable of the job.

Well she is out of her element, give her time to warm up to the whole reality TV thing. She will as Donald did, get more adjusted as time goes on. I have alway found that people "sterio type" business women as "b*tchy". If a business man was to react in the same manner, it would be accepted and not even thought. But when a woman shows authority she is considered a B*tch.
How sterio typical is that !

Obviously she knows how to get things done, and for that I admire her. And I didn't think she was remotely bitchy at all, she appeared to be in good spirits that day and rather pleasant. And even when she had bickering morons in front of her, she didn't loose her temper or even raise her voice.
She didn't even flinch. I watched the tape several times over and I still do not see what was b*tchy about her that episode.
She is just doing her job.

I actually like both and find them different. I love the way Martha shows personal feelings toward the contestants. I really enjoy her show a lot and am surprised the ratings are low. I think that being against LOST put her in a hole and hope they move it.

4. "Martha vs. Donald -- in the ratings."
Loser: NBC.

Martha's version pulled in roughly seven million viewers. Donald got a little less than ten million. Not encouraging numbers -- if Martha's ratings don't pick up quickly, the series could be Bravo-bound in a hurry. And it's not as if Donald's bringing in the ad dollars, either -- we could be looking at the death knell for the entire franchise.

5. "RE: Martha vs. Donald -- in the ratings."
I personally find the Donald's show more engaging. Martha seems to be struggling to come off very positive on the show. I'm still waiting to see her aggressive side. Some of these contestants are ruthless and incompetent. The whole Matchstick team is a joke reminiscent of last season's NetWorth team. Martha should be able to call them out on their behavior, but she seems to take a passive role. Alexis doesn't look competent enough to be imparting words of wisdom or judgement on any of these candidates. And the old guy spends more time sucking on his cigar than saying anything meaningful. It's kinda frustrating! The board rooms (conference room) scenes are the best part of "The Apprentice", but on Martha's show, it is so anti-climatic that I don't care who gets the ax at the end.

I was hoping that she would ax all three of them! LOL

Chuck with his nervous breakdown, Dawn with her whine and Jim with is freaky, hyperness. I dont see any of those people being top choices for Martha.

Also that on girl, I think her name is, Bethany gets on my nerves. She was the one that new faux-George. She kinda has the attitude that "Oh I know some on on the board I will be safe" so she kinda doesnt go all out and stuff.

7. "RE: Martha vs. Donald"
Although Donald's tasks definitely have a "been there, done that" feel to them (weren't the guys, including Chris from last season also gloating about the car brochure?) I realize how much George and Carolyn bring to the show compared to Martha's helpers who don't even deserve the title "George and Carolyn-lite". I really respect George and Carolyn's opinions and even if Carolyn sometimes seems to echo Trump, she'll call someone out when he/she deserves it. I've always liked George. For me, they're what makes Donald's show more appealing. So far, neither Charles nor Alexis have contributed anything to the show, except for a lively discussion about the cigar.

9. "RE: Martha vs. Donald"
At least the tasks are starting out a little more realistic in relation to the job these candidates are trying out for. Its only the second episode & they're already creating an ad campaign for Lambourgini (sp?). No set up a lemonade stand carp. Hopefully this signals a higher level of difficulty overall for the tasks.

Totally agree with you on Charles & Alexis. Alexis doesn't even seem to want to be there. Have you noticed how far apart Alexis & Martha sit from each other in the conference room? It looks very odd from the overhead perspective. Wonder if there's something to that or just camera angles?

8. "RE: Martha vs. Donald"
At first the Donald was a little hard to take on my television every Thursday night but I guess I've gotten used to it and if he's yelling at a contestant I can't stand, well I don't mind so much.

But with Martha she just seems a bit nice and uncomfortable, maybe she warms up a little, or maybe she'll have a total melt down

And that's the way the cookie crumbles

10. "RE: Martha vs. Donald"
LAST EDITED ON 10-01-05 AT 12:46 PM (EST)

If I remember right on the original Apprentice, THE DONALD seemed even more stilted and odd than he is today. It will probably take a few episodes for Martha to loosen up and get comfortable. I bet before long she will be a lot better. So far I am enjoying the show (with the exception of half of the contestants) and look forward to it every Wednesday.
I get a kick also out of seeing that when the idiots decided to put her in jail for the same things most of them DO, it only made her MORE POPULAR and probably RICHER.
So take a hint: Use our tax dollars more wisely and go after real dangerous felons!

Now that both shows have aired, do you have a preference?

YES, MARTHA!

I think it may be easier to watch Martha. She has more tv experience and is much more comfortable in front of the camera.

YES, AND SHE DOESN'T SEEM DEVIOUS AS DT DOES.

By now, in season 4, Donald's way of yelling from his cue cards is SO IRRITATING, I may not be able to watch anymore.

I'M WAITING FOR HIM TO RELEAST AP3 ON DVD, THEN MAYBE I'LL WATCH AGAIN.

Unfortunately, both shows use the same cheesy music. Blecch. Just awful.

YOU CAN BLAME MB FOR THAT. MARTHA WOULD PROBABLY HAVE SOME TASTEFUL JAZZY TYPE, COFFEE-HOUSE MUSIC ON IN THE BACKGROUND.

However, Donald's show does have more of a New York edge, a get-to-the-point bluster that is appealing. Plus, there's George & Caroline.

NEW YORK EDGE?...

The suite is more fun to look at (Martha's tasteful decor is rather dull) but Martha's loft has all that wonderful daylight.

IT IS NICE, BUT TOO MUCH CHROME FOR MY TASTE... IT'S LIKE LIVING IN A SAUCE PAN... FITS THOUGH!

Both shows are blatantly self-promoting, but Donald's is more over-the-top. (Is that a plus or minus? I don't know.)

DOES THAT MEAN I HAVE TO THROW AWAY MY APPRENTICE UNDERWEAR?

As far as the tasks and characters, I don't have an opinion yet. I have a feeling Martha's show may not show as much of New York City, but I could be mistaken.

THE TASKS SEEM TO FIT THE LADY AND HER COMPANY.

Think of photos of where Trump lives, and then of photos where Martha lives. Each have decidedly different ideas of what is "classy." (How's that for an understatement?) Both shows already reflect this sensiblility.

DONALD IS REALLY INTO THE ROMAN PUNISHMENT THING, BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING THING.

PERSONALLY, I DON'T THINK WE'VE SEEN ENOUGH OF MARTHA YET. IT'S SUCH A PERFECT TRANSITION FOR HER AFTER BEING AT THAT PLACE.

I am not a martha fan, but I watched the 2nd show because I like Trump's Apprentice. Martha's show is nothing but a tepid knockoff. And where are the black people? Maybe she had enough of dealing with them in the big house and decided not to select any for her show. This is probably why it's sooooo boring!
Monocramatic works sometimes, but this show needs some vivid, vibrant color.

I've got to say... although I enjoy both series - I'm enjoying Martha's slightly more. The look of the conference room is still new and different (even if the process and dialouge is horribly familiar)

The whole Martha version smacks of newness, which I like... I'll have to wait for a few more episodes to see what it really comes down to... but I'm enjoying Martha on Wednesday every bit as much as Donald on Thursday.

I wonder if they will do a combined finale and pick both finalists on the same night in a mega event or if we'll get two bloated finales two nights in a row... might have to start digging for the entire fall schedule to check in to that...hmmm...

I agree - I really enjoy both versions of the show. I think Martha's Apprentice has been every bit as fun to watch as Donald's, though maybe airing 2 editions of the same show concurrently is what's contributing to the sagging ratings.

I'm definitely watching both, though!
