Can I just say "wow" and not in a good way in regards to Dilana?

I suspect that she may have shot herself in the foot with her junior high school antics.

Now with 50% less hotness thanks to Arkie.

Edited to remove all the sigs.

I agree. I was a Dilana fan from the start, but have been sliding away in the last few weeks. Her comments were very juvenile, and I lost a lot of respect for her.

Was very disappointed with the plethora of comments she made. It showed little class and respect - Ryan and Lukas really moved up in my estimation in the way they handled it.

But, the four of us had a great time.

Okay. So what if she's not as 'respectful' as you'd like. She's hardcore rock and roll and not the first rocker to offend.
Her voice is by far the best. Her image and overall presence suits the band and what will give them what they need to complete them.
None of the others have it.
Her performance with the band proved it.

I think that is wrong on two counts:

1) Toby kicked arse with the band. He sounded at least as good if not better than Dilana.

2) This is a popularity contest, pure and simple. Nobody has to like Axel Rose for him to have a gig, he had a band and people bought the album. If you front for SN it is because more people want you to front for them than anyone else. Talent is a component, but only one. I was a former Dilana supported, I will not vote for her ever now. And I know I am not alone.

As an aside, her attitude also offers insight as to how she might treat the rest of the band if she ever becomes a member. These guys do not want some big ego in front of them who tries to push them into the background or doesn't show the respect they deserve.

Mark my words, Dilana is on very thin ice and she is going to have to clearly demonstrate that she is improving in this area or she WILL NOT win the competition.

But, the four of us had a great time.

I hope so. I still got the feeling that Dave addressed it because he had to but she is still their Golden Girl.

AND....I don't don't think her competition can shake her up. Even Lukas. I think the lady has some thick skin

I don't know about that - she looked pretty gob-smacked after Dave riped into her and after hearing the audience booing. If this was a calculated gamble - I think she now believes she blew it.

Thick skin? Nuh uh. Did you see the way she started to freak when Ryan said something even mildly negative in reaction to what she said? I had the complete opposite reaction regarding the thickness of her skin. She can dish it, but can't take it.

I agree with you Joplin she has a great voice and if all of you will remember last year the same thing was said about DJ and look where he is at now I really hope she is the one they pick to front their band because she will make them a HUGE success with Tommys, Gilbeys and Jasons musical talents she will only compliment their talents

Hope that I'm doing this right.... computer virgin. In the hopes that Dilana would see this I just had to give it a shot!!! You just blew it, baby! If you think that 3 TRUE rockstars would seriously consider you after the drama you brought to the table... dream on! And what was that "I'm just honest" crap? Here's honest- You had my votes every week from week one and I'm honestly voting for ANYONE other than you. Your so called apology was pathedic!
Toby, Magni, Ryan, Lukas and Storm- good luck to all of you! You all deserve to be where you're at! Thanks for entertaining us while maintaining class!

Yeah! Welcome to the boards, amy313! GREAT first post. Thank you.

Another comment on her "I'm just honest" bullshit. There is a correct way to respond to a question without ratting people out and still remain honest. See Lukas.

Lukas definitely handled himself with a LOT more class than certain other multi-colored hair rockers.

Still I think that the band will have a hard time letting her go without multiple showings in the bottom three.

I hate to say it, but JD went through a similar phase last season. In his case, it was early and he overcame it. This late in the running, it could really screw Dilana. I know it turned me off a hell of a lot more than it did when JD did it. I think I sort of expected it from JD, but didn't expect it from Dilana, so I was much more disappointed in her.

That said... do we have a double standard for behavior we expect from male versus female rockers? Is it fair for us to be this appalled by her right now if we were not similarly appalled by JD?

Didn't watch last season so I don't know, but I do think you raise an interesting point about the performers being able to learn and grow. Ryan had to grow as a performer and has improved through-out the competition and no one holds it against him that he was not the strongest candidate out the gate. Perhaps this is where Dilana needs to grow and maybe she can show some maturity and do it.

That being said, it's going to be hard to see it since most of this happens off camera, and it may be too late.

But, the four of us had a great time.

But when JD did it last year, he was specifically "playing the game." IMO, Dilana is just being the b-word. I mean what she said to Ryan after the show last night, wasn't gamesmanship, I honestly think she can't stand to see anyone else get kudos.

And now that I think about it, at the point when JD ws running his mouth, I didn't like him much. He had to win me back over. I am done with Dilana.

JD's antics really pissed me off last season. And I never got over it. Was bummed when he won.

Dilana's comments were pretty awful. But she is clearly the only female with a legit chance to front the band. So I still gotta be behind her.

It's weird that she was so sweet in the first few weeks to give great constructive criticism to Dana when she needed it. At that point it seemed like she was so comfortable with her ability that she didn't have to worry about helping the other rockers to be better. Now all of a sudden she's acting like she's threatened.

I dunno. I'm going to chalk it up to a few bad days and hope she learned from it.

Do you think the focus on Dilana is done intentionally - so "if" she should win/Lucas who they seem to have placed in opposite corners of the ring will gather that much more steam for SN?

That said... do we have a double standard for behavior we expect from male versus female rockers?

I think that is an issue, but I also think that the asshats in SuperNova have done a pisspoor job of coherently articulating what they want from their lead singer.

First we had all the "fight for the song" crap, as if the singers could not truly invest their artistic souls in performing a song unless they engaged in some bad behavior to get it.

Then we had the "you must throw a guitar" incident, as if a rock performance could not truly be good without some bad behavior on stage.

Now Dilana gives them exactly what they have been begging for: lots of bad behavior. She really stoked the media furnace --- because look at what we are talking about now.

And we want to say that Lukas showed a lot more class? In the very first week that little runt tried to stir up all kinds of shit with his comments when they returned to the house after their first performances, and he did so knowing that he was on camera.

Based on the behavior that SuperNova has been encouraging all along, Lukas should have dove right in with all kinds of caustic comments about Dilana just to feed the media beast. IMO, he missed an opportunity to generate more press. If rockers are supposed to be cocky, then he should have been cocky and demonstrated the false bravado that's been applaused all along.

I'm not in the Legion of Dilana. Honestly, I would be fine with any of those remaining winning in the end, though I think the winner actually loses by being saddled with the guys in SuperNova so I don't think the prize is all that great.

I just think that there is more than one way of looking at what happened --- and i do wonder if we would treat the situation differently if one of the other rockers had done what Dilana did.

JD's & Dilana's actions are as different as night & day. JD inadvertently pissed people off by expressing he was INXS' biggest fan there "I KNOW the songs, because I love INXS" or something to that effect. He was driven by the prize, BUT he never trashed his fellow competitors. JD did great with the "interviews" and when JD was confronted "ala Lukas" with another's (MiG's) trashing, JD brushed it off like Lukas did.

JD didn't intend to piss people off and he never threw his fellow housemates under the bus. Also, when JD realized some of the others we're getting aggravated with him, he tried to mend fences.

JD knew he could win based on his talent & desire alone . . . Dilana obviously feels she needs to kill the competition in order to win. Dilana is insecure and going about everything in the wrong way & it finally bit her in the azz!

Word. I couldn't remember off hand enough about JD's situation to reply to this but I knew they weren't the same thing. I've heard the JD comparisons so much this season, it makes me giggle. Ryan, Lukas, Dilana... JD is JD and these people are these people but as far as the press thing goes, if anybody can be compared, it's Lukas.

I think that the Dilana thing is being over exaggerated. Lukas was doing the same thing early on....bashing contestents and acting arrogant. That was overlooked and now everyone is bashing Dilana.

I do think she acted in appropriate, but she acknowledged her mistake. I bet she doesn't do it anymore....whether it escapes her for ever or just to the end of the competition would be my concern.

I think this was all introduced because I think it livened things up some. Everyone was starting to think Dilana had this thing sewed up because she has not had any negative comments so far. Now others including myself feel that maybe a dark horse can emerge.

Good point. Although I recall JD's actions more selling out the others in an attempt to suck up to the band. Saying things like "I'm the only one who's been listening to your music from the beginning"....I honestly don't remeber how he redeemed himself...but the only real personal episode I remeber with JD was with SUzi....and I don't recall her being as popular as Lukas is on SN. She named dropped quite a bit.

But I like your point. Guess it will depend on how strong her fan base is and how strong her performances continue to be

He showed some chops on the guitar. If he doesn't win the lead singer spot, maybe he could replace Gilby.

I love Magni. Can someone please explain to me why he keeps getting the shaft? IMO, he does not belong in the bottom three. Is it because he's a foreigner? And not just a foreigner, but from a place that Americans don't know anything about?

I've been telling myself that I don't care about this and thus have refrained from voting. But I realized this week that I can't front anymore. I think that this is the primary reason. The reality is, Iceland is not a big place - population of less than 300,000 - smaller than the suburbs of most American cities. He would pretty much have to have the entire country voting (in the middle of the night) for him to ensure he stays out of bottom three. That said - I think that many people were so totally blown away by his rendition of "Fire" last night - this may have solidified some serious fan support on this side of the pond.

I agree. Here are my top annoyances.

1) Her name. Is it real...get the feeling she has to do everything over the top...including having a Large (stupid) name.
2) Crazy/Academy Award presentations of songs. She just over does everything. Storm needs to realize this is Rock not a Rock Opera. She is way to theatrical.
3) She has no originality. She basically performs songs the way they were originally performed. I Will Survive is a great example. If there ever was a case for having to completely redo a song this was the case and her version was not much...if any different than the original.

I hope she is the next to go. She has the least chance to win of the rest in the contest. She has a nice voice just doesn't know how to use it.

Her redo of I Will Survive was brilliant and totally different from the original IMHO. Criticizing her for making the song different rather than copying Cake's version seemed silly to me.

I agree on the theatrics, and she had tried to tone it down but crazy eyes were back again this week.

Finally, she said in the opening show that her parents were hippies and that Storm Large is her given name. Take that for what it's worth.

I missed having an encore.
Theory #1 and the most likely, the hammering of Dilana took too much time. The press hammering was said to take about a half hour, I believe.
Theory #2 is the "grassy knoll" theory. They felt Ryan was the best of the night (that part is actually probable) but didn't want to showcase somebody else's original as an encore performance. Not wanting to give the encore to "second best" of the night, they decided not to do it at all. Very grassy knoll, nonetheless, this is the theory I will choose to believe.

Dilana Dilana Dilana. WTF woman? How dare she tell Ryan that his song would have been nothing without the House Band. How dare she. grrrrr. He has been performing this song with his band and solo long enough to have made the song. I mean, yay for House Band for learning it and playing it so well. But come on you filthy little ... I officially am completely 100% off the Dilana train. (I will however continue to not badmouth her family.) I will lose so much respect for TLee and Jason if they chose this back-stabbing heartless bitter hateful woman to front them. For this, I will not buy pre-sale tickets. Not a chance. My wish for her is to lose a good bit of her fan support and fall into the bottom 3 next week. My mind can't imagine that not happening. If it doesn't *shrug*... to use my new favorite word... evs. She desperately needs to be knocked and kicked down a few pegs.

Lukas and Ryan have shown the world why I and so many others respect them so much. Who expected Lukas to be such a class act? I mean besides me, of course. "I don't need a dove. I don't need a wing." "I have to live with it. Literally." I don't expect any of their love in that love/hate relationship to return anytime soon. No more cuddling for Dilana, I don't think.

Toby! OMD! He looked and sounded fabulous with the band. This was a better song, IMO. (or was it because it was a better singer/frontperson?) So I have hope that their songs will continue to get better as the weeks go. For this, I'm glad they didn't choose either of my boys to play with them just yet. No dancing girls either. Maybe they got a clue?

As soon as Bwak mentioned the bottom 3, before she even said who they were, I got choked up. I knew. We all knew. I have so much respect for Patrice. I know these people have to leave the show and I know she'll be fine, but gah. *cries*

Magni killed "Fire". Wow! Sick and all, this boy still sounds fabulous. I was hoping he'd do the riffs, but yay Rafa!

Patrice chose her song perfectly. "I've got a smile for everyone I meet." "Can't you tell I'm going home? I'm tired as hell." *cries*

Toby killed "Plush". Loved him going over to sing a bit with Magni. Thankfully, Magni hasn't performed it since week two (twice). Otherwise, we might be sick of that song on this show. Mr. Rand shined brightly tonight.

I loved loved loved the huge three-way hug when Toby was sent back to the rocker pod. Now I want him to stay and I want the finale to be Lukas, Ryan and Toby. Or Lukas, Magni, Ryan and Toby. Or! Lukas, Ryan, Storm and Toby. waaaaaaaaah. I don't want a finale. *whimper* Hold me.

Poor Tommy. He couldn't even look at Patrice for a minute there.

First off, wow Toby looked like he really belonged in that band. After tonights show i am not so sure that Dilana and Lukas are show-ins for the final two.

Magni was freakin awesome with his performance. Toby did well too with his second performance...thought the first one was a little better but both were great. Patrice was good but just not at the level of the others remaining.

And about Storm...just barely escape. But what is with her I'm=shocked-looks. The last couple weeks she seems almost disappointed she aint in the bottom three. I just hope Magni and Toby get to take a week off the bottom three. Let's see Storm, Lukas and Dilana in the bottom three.....that would be interesting.

At the house, Dilana said that Ryan's performance was made by the house band. She went on to gloat about the fact that she had more votes than he. Dave hammered her on it. Dilana replied that she was "the b1tch of the week. "

Dilana criticized Lukas (and Magni) during the media interviews (see the webisode) and Dave hammered her on that too. Finally, after much booing by the crowd, Dilana aplogized by admitting that she was human and made a mistake. When pressed, she said she was too honest (which kind of negates her half hearted apology).

Hope this helps a little. If you missed the first 40 minutes, you missed a great performance by Toby with SN.

I was wondering, because I didn't see it again later. I posted right at the end of her song and there was something big and red there for about the last half of the song... when I saw her at the end, it looked like there was a little bump, so maybe makeup took care of it during the commercial break?

That's what I thought happened. I told DW "she just busted her lip, and it's bleeding." she didn't seem to notice it, though, until Magni pointed it out after she finished singing. And very cool of him to let her use his sleeve, since she didn't have any (and his were already red ).

LAST EDITED ON 08-24-06 AT 07:18 AM (EST)

I was waiting to see if people were going to rip into the SN song like they did last week. I, for one, thought that the song was really good. And I, as with others, thought Toby seemed very natural and fit in well on stage with the boys.

Sadly, I think this week confirms that Storm is the Mig of this season. Although, I did not like Mig last year, he had a strong following which kept him from the bottom 3 almost the whole season. I love Storm but she hasn't had a killer performance since "Anything, Anything" and "Changes". Hopefully she will turn it around, but we know she will get her chance because she has many people (like me) who vote for her everyweek.

My thoughts on Dilana:
She is so far out in left field, mentally, right now, it will be impressive if she can come back in the next few weeks. Her apology was half hearted and week and the booing really surprised her. I found her constant turning around and disgusted face at Ryan, totally juvenille. Don't dish it out honey, if you can't take it.

I am still shocked, shocked, that no one from Supernova said a thing. It was all Dave. Could it be that they didn't care? Or did they just think that Dave covered it? Hmmmm.....

Have to wonder if TLee was thinking re dilana, so what if she decides to get "honest" with the press about our private lives. That man has not lived the life of a saint and I'm sure has done far more than the press knows and "honesty" could be very bad for Supernova.

Shes not 21, she has been around. She wasnt being too "honest" she was being too cut throat. As one of the prev posters stated there is a way to say what she did on the press part of it that is okay and a way that is cruel and bad press. She chose the later.

As to the comments that Ryan's song would have been nothing without the house band. Well same could be said of her and her limited range. That was just cruel to be cruel. No wonder her and her mom dont talk. She hasnt pregressed beyond a 16 yrold school girl mentality when dealing with peers.

I didnt like her in week one but I grew to respect her performance abilities but she has lost that respect. I wouldnt pay to hear her in concert anytime. She ranks right up there with Tom Cruise.... maybe she needs some vitamins.

I think that is just it - making a SN song sound credible - bottom line is their music is so undefined (Zayra at least had that correct).

I don't see much longevity for the band. Tommy always has other projects on the side and this is probably more for seeing his own mug shot on camera than for some devotion to this band. I would imagine he would want Storm to stick around as he would want to play around with her (was going to say barbies but you know what I mean).

Dilana, while kissing Tommy at the Vegas party - is sort of a one persona singer. That marching up the stage in boots and some militant outfit with those chin piercings (egads last performance's pink 6 inch eyelashes) is cheesy.

Magni can write - I think he performed a song he wrote? He played guitar last night as suggested - it would have been cliche to bust it after singing - since Ryan did already.

Lukas was fun - but his disadvantage may just be he is too similar to JD that won last time.

Patrice may be happy she hasn't worked a day job since committing to her music but she seemed to perform the same way week after week - sleeveless vest and standing at the mic. Her version of the Pretenders was questionable. I did like her original song.

Toby is just cute but he is maybe too pretty for Tommy's ego!

Well, the biggest news for me last night is that I'm back on the Toby train. He was on fire! His performance with SN seemed so natural and so right that I was completely blown away. I don't know if it's just that this song is so much better than the first one or if it's that Toby just let out everything he's been holding back. That was just fantastic!

I no longer feel any need to justify how much I dislike Dilana. That was the most classless act I think I've ever seen. I have met quite a few national and regional rock musicians and, regardless of those who think otherwise, I have never seen anyone talk like that about their peers to the press. And how jealous and childish she was to Ryan! She showed him total disrespect, not only in the "privacy" of the house but also during the show. Ryan, Lukas, and Magni all showed they are the better people. Good for them! Screw that beyotch!

WTF? Why was Storm not in the bottom 3? It should never, ever have included Toby, IMHO. And with his SN performance and then his bottom 3 performance, he showed exactly why he didn't belong there. And Magni! Dood! You had me applauding in my living room like some sort of nut. Hendrix, and you kicked it!

And can I just, once again, say how amazing the house band is? We say it here over and over, but they just blow me away every.single.week. Can we get MB to make season 3 the search for a lead singer for the house band?

Sure, Toby was in the Top 3 last night, but I think he turned that negative into a positive really quickly. He had two chances to perform last night and nailed both of them. I'm sure I'm not the only person who is now more inclined to fight to keep him in the competition.

Another thought that stuck out to me last night - I do not think that Lukas is right for these guys. He's been performing well, but when they showed him doing his part of the Supernova song, I didn't feel like he fit with them at all. Toby, on the other hand, looked and sounded like he belonged.

My theory on why there was no anchor? Call it theory 3 - that Ryan was the only one considered deserving, but they didn't want to give it to the same guy 3 out of 4 weeks at this stage of the competition.

-> Glow writes: “Dilana. WTF woman? How dare she tell Ryan that his song would have been nothing without the House Band. How dare she.”

Are we looking for a rock singer or a choirboy? I prefer rockers that aren’t politically correct. Last time I checked it was a competition not a summer camp fireside sing-a-long! I’m sure you’ve seen some “making of a rock album DVD”. Metallica’s “Monster…” DVD as an example should prove that an attitude isn’t a deterrent to making it!

->“I will lose so much respect for TLee and Jason if they chose this back-stabbing heartless bitter hateful woman to front them.”

I wish she could use that bitterness in her song-writing abilities which seems to be her main problem. This is a Burnett production and he likes his villains. Her attitude towards the other singers should count for less than 5% of the evaluation THE BAND makes. Much more important is the relationship the singers display towards the house band and here we don’t see much except that Ryan got bad comments last week with his micro-management. From what I’ve seen the house band also gets along with her well.

Another major concern his her voice and it’s range. All I have to say is: Stevie Nicks. She also had a very limited, raucous voice and it didn’t prevent her from having a nice career now did it? Stevie had more elegance but SN is a dirtier rock band than F-Mac.

Before you say I’m a Dilana-fan, I’d point out that I haven’t decided between her, Lukas (who is slipping), Ryan (who has gotten back up) and Magni. The latter proved again that he is not only a true professional but also the best musician amongst the contestants. That could be needed because I haven’t been impressed with Gilby’s guitar play. The house band lead guitarist has impressed me more! Jason is the only above average musician in SN. TLee is more a People’s magazine star than a tremendous drummer! Since it’s not my job to decide, I enjoy all of their performances and Storm’s as well. Luckily, that covers almost all who are left!

-> Cheasybread writes about Dilana: “I am still shocked, shocked, that no one from Supernova said a thing. It was all Dave. Could it be that they didn't care? Or did they just think that Dave covered it? Hmmmm.....”

Maybe it’s because Dave is Burnett’s host and a Jiffy-wannabee! He figures controversy is good for ratings. The band should heve their minds pretty much made up by now.

On to another subject: Toby was OK since he didn’t re-arrange “Plush”. Toby actually never re-arranges a song; he bastardizes it. He is out of his league here. Among the men, Magni has a voice of better quality, Ryan has a more powerful voice and Lukas…Lukas has a voice, a strange voice, could be a memorable one if he gets a hit.

Are we looking for a rock
>singer or a choirboy? I
>prefer rockers that aren’t politically
>correct.

There's a difference between being non-politically correct and being jealous, petty, rude, and completely out of line. I've known many musicians in my career, including some famous ones and some who could show everyone here all about bad attitude, and I have never heard anyone in any band I know publicly slam people for little justification like she did.

>I’m sure you’ve seen some
>“making of a rock album
>DVD”. Metallica’s “Monster…” DVD as
>an example should prove that
>an attitude isn’t a deterrent
>to making it!

Well, that DVD is about how Metallica almost imploded due to bad relationships within the band. And how it was imperative to bring a psychologist into the studio just so they could attempt to work together. And honestly? St. Anger isn't exactly the greatest Metallica disc. In fact, I'd label it as mediocre compared to past efforts.

This is a
>Burnett production and he likes
>his villains.

Yes, and he usually likes to redeem them. Unless the person is so clueless that they become even less likeable at a crucial point of the game. And then he mercilessly crucifies them. I just hope that after last night, Dilana got a clue.

Her attitude towards
>the other singers should count
>for less than 5% of
>the evaluation THE BAND makes.
>Much more important is the
>relationship the singers display towards
>the house band

I disagree. The singers spend much more time together than they do with the house band. This is an indication as to how they would act in the cocoon of being in a band that has to live with each other 24/7 when they are touring or recording. I think SN respects all of them as professional musicians. But the ability to live with this person day in and day out is just as much of a factor. She has shown that she is not someone who plays well with others when not on stage. And, I'm sure of this especially in Jason's case, this will figure importantly in his final decision.

You're kidding right? I don't read People magazine but isn't half their stories about stars, musician and actors complaining about others?

Some I know: Ian Gillan of Deep Purple fame touring solo, when asked if he'd ever work with Ritchie Blackmore again answered: "Ritchie had a very controlling father and now he's become the control freak. I can't work like that."

Going way back to a little known feud: Mick Jagger when asked about progressive rock said it wasn't rock music, that if you wanted theatrics and you couldn't go to the theatre then go see Genesis, if you want rock music come and see the Stones. To get back at him, when Gabriel wrote "The Battle of Epping Forest" a song about city gang wars, he included a Mick-the-prick character. There was also a dig at Bob Dylan in there but I can't remember what it was about.

Those are just 2 examples of public slamming by musicians and by singers I like. There are millions more that I don't care to remember. Dilana's words were insignificant really unless you want to bash her. Lukas gave it the appropriate response and SN didn't comment. They have their criterias to make a decision, Dave has a show to run and found an interesting angle. That's all it was.

Exactly why he was touring solo. Richie Blackmore is a rock legend. Where exactly is Ian Gilliam these days? Hmmmm.

As Solsberry Hill was about his breakup with Genesis. Peter Gabriel has a rep for it. Just because he did it doesn't make him well-respected among musicians for it.

Sorry but Gillan also still works with all the other members of Deep Purple, the solo tour is only a break. Blackmore is the one on the outs with the group. And where is he these days? No, I'm not mocking him, I'd like to know because he is good but he is the one who has disappeared.

And you missed the other point where the slam originated from Jagger. I would say they both are very respected in the music industry. Look at all the musicians who have wanted to perform with Gabriel. War of words are insignificant. They aren't worth taking sides, OR DECIDING the future SN.

A difference here is that Jagger and Gabriel were not working or living together. If they were in the same band, it would probably have meant the end of the band.

Gilliam no longer works with Blackmore.

If Dilana is that critical of her housemates, how critical would she be of Tommy, Gilby or Jason? They do not seem like the types who would respond well to public criticism by their lead singer.

I know we're not shown everything and I accept that. I don't care what her reasoning was. I don't care if she was playing around. She had no business telling Ryan he would have been nothing without House Band. Ryan's SFTEOAE has twenty songs on it. Twenty solo songs. He played every instrument on all twenty songs. He was selling out venues on his solo acoustic tour. Solo. All by himself. With no band. As much as I love and appreciate House Band, Ryan could have and HAS sold this song all by himself. Her jealousy and insecurity has to be based on that. She has said this is her last shot and she hates to see anybody else threatening her spot as frontrunner. Especially since everybody left in that house has far more talent than she does. They can write music and lyrics and melodies. All she has shown us is that she can copy melodies from a song that somebody else wrote for her six years ago. And! She had no business mentioning Lukas' private life. Even as briefly as she did. He hasn't mentioned his upbringing and she had no business doing so for him.

But like her or not, I can't deny that this picture is hot.

I want to lick Ryan's ear too!

75. "RE: 8/23 Result show"
This is my first time posting/responding to this forum but not the first time I've read over the responses and posts. I have come here before when I missed an elimination show to see what happened, and last night, a family emergency pulled me away from watching the show live. I popped a DVD-R and pressed record but when I came home, there was an error writing to the disc and therefore it didn't get recorded. So I checked in here to see what the final bottom 3 was. Long story short.

I was disappointed to see Toby land in the bottom three, and surprised the viewers weren't listening to Tommy Lee and put Lukas there, and I've been reading all of your responses to the whole DiLana flap.

Here is my opinion for what it's worth. I agree with one of the posters who said earlier, "In the long run, what's it going to matter since Supernova will implode within a year of forming, as most supergroups do." So is fronting Supernova a boon or a burden to these aspiring frontpersons? I don't know. The jury's still out. All three members come from bands that broke up with bitter animosity towards each other, regardless of some well-intended (but not very sincere) apologies that came in the wake of such nasty breakups (or dismissals in the case of Mr. Newsted who I've always thought got the raw deal from Metallica, esp Messrs. Hetfield and Ulrich). That being said, let's look objectively at what we have left.

DiLana, Toby, Magni, Ryan, Storm, and Lukas.

DiLana: has the stage presence, the voice, the attitude, an exotic South African twang. Will her sniping remarks hurt her chances? No, in the long run, it's hers to lose. She continues to step up to the plate with each performance. Cons: too honest?

Toby: has the pretty-boy looks (compared to the rest of SN), has that killer, female heart-melting Aussie accent, a decent singing voice, and lots of energy. Cons: too nice? (the aw-shucks "How'm I going to explain to me Dad?" and modesty - "I'm feeling a little uncomfortable up here now," after ending the Layla performance in which he ripped off his shirt. . Has had ups-and-downs at the plate. Not the conistent hitter that DiLana is. But I think the guys in SN truly like him as a person.

Magni: Pros: Great voice, great musicianship. Also has a killer accent. Can go from croon to growl in less than a second.
CONS: Doesn't move about much on stage to interact with the audience, doesn't give off a rock star as much as a "singer-songrwriter-with-an-edge" vibe. Fairly consistent, but I'd like to see him do a fast rock'n'roll number. Almost everything he's done has been ballad to mid-tempo. I really want to see him perform with SN to see if he has the "chops" (right now, I'm not seeing it)

Ryan: Pros: great song stylist, not a bad songwriter or musician. CONS: Cannot see him fronting this band. Others on this forum have mentioned how talented he is in that on a solo album, he played all the instruments in addition to writing and singing the songs. Yep, solo artist (think Trent Reznor) with an optional backing band. I would also like to see him sing one song with SN to be sure of my assessment.

Storm: Pros: pretty, sexy, flirts with the SN guys and Dave. Has energy to spare. Cons: Doesn't have a broad vocal range. Has difficulty with the high notes (I'd guess she sang alto in school choruses if she participated in them). Her "intense" look comes across as potentially "pyschotic." Her faking disappointments at being in the bottom three (or dodging the bullet) reeks of drama queen tendencies. Cannot see her fronting Supernova without thinking she's Tommy Lee's personal sex slave.

Lukas: PROS: Not a bad singer when he doesn't chew off his words like Colm Wilkinson, the Broadway/London musical stage actor. Has a neat fashion sense. CONS: Petulant, weaselly, doesn't listen to advice well. Quickly pissing TLee and Gilby off (TLee after the Tues performance: "Check please."). Lack of audience interaction (too emo?). Has an annoying habit of strutting around the stage like Howdy Doody on crack.

My apologies to the legions of Lukas fans out there, and I don't care about his childhood tragedies, I personally cannot see how people have kept him around this long. He needs to go, and go quickly...Unless he pulls off a miracle, I cannot see him fronting Supernova.

Notice, the order I listed people is the order I think will be the winner: Dilana, Toby, Magni, Ryan, Storm, and Lukas. You can flip any of the last three but I predict DiLana, Toby, Magni as the "trifecta."

Wow. For a first post, it was a doozy! Very well thought out, even if I don't agree with some of it. I hope you post more often.

One comment - it really is a shame you missed last night as Magni's performance of the Hendrix tune "Fire" was unbelievable! You might have ranked him higher if you caught that performance alone.

Nice assessment. I do disagree on some points, though.

First, although I think it is Dilana's to lose (based on the band's comments), I think a con that should be listed is that she's a one-trick pony, with little change or growth from one week to the next. and if she bashes her fellow contestants to the media, how will she do with SN?

As for Storm:

Her "intense" look comes across as potentially "pyschotic."

For a rock band, that's not necessarily a con.

Her faking disappointments at being in the bottom three (or dodging the bullet) reeks of drama queen tendencies.

I don't see "drama queen" so much as DAW, which they all are. Esp. Tommy.

Cannot see her fronting Supernova without thinking she's Tommy Lee's personal sex slave.

Again, for a rock band, that's not necessarily a con.

(TLee after the Tues performance: "Check please.").

I thought that was Tommy's way of saying, "we can end it here for tonight, cuz nothing will top that".

oh boy. I hate to be the one responding to this. LOL. But if you're lurking our boards, I suspect you probably expected as much. So first of all, welcome to posting. This is a great first post, btw. Well thought out.

However.

"DiLana: has the stage presence, the voice, the attitude, an exotic South African twang. Will her sniping remarks hurt her chances? No, in the long run, it's hers to lose. She continues to step up to the plate with each performance. Cons: too honest?"

She has the stage presence and the exotic South African twang. Her "stepping up to the plate with each performance" is a matter of opinion. I agree that it's a popular opinion. Also a very popular opinion is one that I share. She hasn't shown us anything new since, well, since week two. Your saying that she is "too honest" is funny. But as you said, you didn't watch the show last night. Her "honesty" was all over the place. I'm not sure if you watched the webisode or not, but her "honesty" was beating the competition down to make herself look better. Or so she thought. Her "honesty" was selling out everybody in the house not named Dilana, Dilana, Dilana. Her "honesty" is bullshit because of the mere fact that she went down the list and attacked everybody. If she'd have said, "I want to strangle Lukas" or "Ryan didn't like the song" I could believe it was a case of "oops, I said too much" honesty. She attacked everybody in that house including her beloved Storm and Magni. And her attack on Ryan after the performance show was unnecessary and distasteful. As he asked her to just leave it at that and leave out the negative, she continued attacking him by telling him she has more fans than he does. This boggles me. I think her ego goes way beyond her abilities. She's insecure and not very smart. Her apologies were weak and insincere. Like a person who only apologizes because they got caught. Not because they are "honestly" sorry. While people tend to believe she is still a frontrunner, I tend to believe she just packed her bags. If for nothing else than telling the band that she doesn't want to share the spotlight. yikes.

"Ryan: Pros: great song stylist, not a bad songwriter or musician. CONS: Cannot see him fronting this band. Others on this forum have mentioned how talented he is in that on a solo album, he played all the instruments in addition to writing and singing the songs. Yep, solo artist (think Trent Reznor) with an optional backing band. I would also like to see him sing one song with SN to be sure of my assessment."

heh. "Others on this forum" would be me. But I was always a big fan of NIN. *shrug* I have no problems with him continuing his solo career if that's what happens. But I also see him fitting with Supernova. They need somebody with loads of talent fronting them. That only leaves five of the six remaining contestants. In case you don't know who I left out, read a few more of my posts or better yet, listen to some of Dilana's "original" material.

"Lukas: PROS: Not a bad singer when he doesn't chew off his words like Colm Wilkinson, the Broadway/London musical stage actor. Has a neat fashion sense. CONS: Petulant, weaselly, doesn't listen to advice well. Quickly pissing TLee and Gilby off (TLee after the Tues performance: "Check please."). Lack of audience interaction (too emo?). Has an annoying habit of strutting around the stage like Howdy Doody on crack."

Please give me an example of him not following advice. And please don't mention "opening his throat" because I'll vomit. I do know that he needs to do that more often. But he has such a beautiful voice when he uses it properly. He's getting there. "Check please" was very much a positive thing. Kind of along the same lines as "Let's get on the bus." Or was that TLee being pissed off as well? I'm not sure where "lack of audience interaction" came from. He's always talking to the crowd. He's always shaking hands and he is always the first person to willingly speak to his fans. (so I hear - I can't be there, unfortunately)

"My apologies to the legions of Lukas fans out there, and I don't care about his childhood tragedies, I personally cannot see how people have kept him around this long. He needs to go, and go quickly...Unless he pulls off a miracle, I cannot see him fronting Supernova"

No apologies necessary. You're entitled to your opinions. Lukas never brought up his childhood tragedies. He said in the beginning that he got into music to stay out of trouble because he was living on the streets. He just wanted the world to know that he is passionate about music and that it has brought him far from nowhere. He hasn't mentioned it since then. I'm not sure why that would be an issue with you. *shrug* Dilana is the one who mentioned his past recently. Which was absolutely not her place to do so.

Just to reiterate, this is not new behaviour for Dilana. This is new editing. MBP loves to stir things up. They all saw Dilana's ego growing enormously and probably decided to showcase that to take our minds off of the hideousness of SN's original song disaster last week. And I love my Lustmuffin so much for pointing out last night that this is not new behaviour. A billion bonus points to Ryan for working that in.

I'm sure that I would stick up for Lukas if this shoe was on his foot and I'm sure I would stick up for Ryan if he was wearing the shoe. That's the reality of reality television. Hell, James is my favorite on Big Brother and I won't watch the show once he's gone. So I'm used to being abused for having my favorites.

not sure where "lack of audience interaction" came from.

My guess would be the couple of times he seems to want to turn his back on the audience and sing to the band. I know the one time it was a song he wasn't comfortable with, I'm not sure about this last performance where it got mentioned. It isn't every song, so I think it is how he copes (or in this case doesn't cope) in certain situations.

So I'm used to being abused for having my favorites.

It's not the "having your favorites" part that you get abused for, it's your BAD CHOICE of favorites.

Evs, Boner.

One more thing I'd like to point out, Dilana said she was new at this interview thing, she realized she'd made a mistake, she learned a lesson, she's so so sorry "if" she hurt anybody yadda yadda yadda but the worst thing she did/said came days later, after the performance show. If she did "learn a lesson" and was "honestly" sorry for hurting anybody, she wouldn't have attacked Ryan's ability in the first place.

dang, I apparently missed a LOT last night. My dvr didn't work and I got home about 15 minutes after the show ended. WTH happened????? Obviously Dilana said some things she shouldn't have, but now i'm so curious as to what? I've always kind of liked her and thought out of the women, she was the only one that would remotely fit in with SN. What could she possibly have said to turn the tables on herself and make people react this way??

Enquiring minds (like mine) want to know!

I read that thread but still have no idea what she actually SAID. From the jist, she just made some off-hand remarks about her housemates that probably pissed them off a bit. Big deal.

I'm not a Lukas fan at all, I don't like the way he strains to reach notes, his flailing around like he's having a ceisure or the way he rarely interacts with the audience. (which really, he doens't. He will step CLOSE to the audience, but then will immediately head back toward the band and sing to them for a while...then stroll back out toward the end of the stage and repeat. He never really gets down in there and sings TO the audience which is somewhat annoying to watch). But again, I don't know what she said about him, but as I recall, he was a bit of a cocky SOB the first few weeks and did a bit of housemate bashing himself. No one seemed to get their panties in a bunch over his remarks and major ego trip!

But honestly, it seems like there is a bit of creative editing going on and whichever contestant seems to be getting a swelled head, they tend to show all their "bad moments" and broadcast for all to see.

I may be completely wrong here and would hope that someone jumps in if I am, but I seem to recall one performance where he jumped into the pit and finished his song surrounded by fans. Am I completely offside with this thinking?

Here is my two minute synopsis of what Dilana said:

At the house, Dilana said that Ryan's performance was made by the house band. She went on to gloat about the fact that she had more votes than he. Dave hammered her on it. Dilana replied that she was "the b1tch of the week. "

Dilana criticized Lukas (and Magni) during the media interviews (see the webisode) and Dave hammered her on that too. Finally, after much booing by the crowd, Dilana aplogized by admitting that she was human and made a mistake. When asked why she said those things, she replied that she was too honest, thereby negating her half hearted apology.

Hope this helps a little. If you missed the show, you missed a great performance by Toby with SN. Many disagree with me on that, but my opinion is my opinion.
