"SWITCH - The Tour"
Hi, all. The countdown begins until I see INXS next weekend (Feb 11) and I was wondering if anyone else here has been to a show yet or has tickets in the future?

Reviews have been mostly positive of the concert -- either the reviewer LOVES the concert & JD and appreciates how well J.D. sings the back catalogue, but also brings his own style & edge to the new album -- or they thought the show was good, but consider JD just a sound-alike M.H. and more immitator than good in his own right (poo-poo on them).

Post your thoughts, if you've seen the concert. Also, what you thought about Casey & The Lovehammers opening act.

I'll be sure to post all the details after next weekend. Oooh, I'm soooo excited. Yipee!!!

1. "RE: SWITCH - The Tour"
Hi All,

I meant to post this earlier, but this is the first chance I got.

I had 1st row on Saturday at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas. I was SO excited for months leading up to this, and the day of the concert I was absolutely giddy. It was unlikely that my extremely high expectations would be met.

And, I was right. Although it was good, and I enjoyed myself, I was disappointed in the band:
-They played EVERY song from Switch, and only about 6 others
-The Band really did not want JD to have any limelight
---He didn't use his megaphone on Pretty Vegas (and we were IN Vegas)
---They didn't feature him on the video montage in the back
---He didn't address the crowd (e.g., "Hey Las Vegas, how're you doin') But the band members did little shout outs, even one of the Farris bros said something about us being "right for are bend, INXS"
---The vocals were underutilized, and the musicians were amplified

They opened with Suicide Blonde - forget what they closed with, but came back with an encore...Never Tear Us Apart and Don't Change.

The Lovehammers were good. They waited until the end for Trees, and closed with "Ring of Fire". Marty gets kind of pissy if you don't sing along. Ty, Deanna and Suzie were in the audience and Marty gave them a shout-out. He also made a snide remark about the only good thing about last summer's "competition" (complete with snarky air quotes) was the few friends he made.

I REALLY wanted to fall in love with INXS again. But their egos have made me want a separation and just focus on J.D. I never thought I would say this, but I hope J.D. goes solo after his contract is up.

One thing I THOUGHT I liked about Marty was his classiness. Scratch that.

All his comments after Rock Star have done nothing but convey sour grapes.

I am with you about Marty. I was never a fan of his sound, but grew to respect him during the show & thought his band being the opening act would be nice.

Now, I can't stand him for the way he's acted after the show -- his snarky comments & he & Jordis demanding writing credits for Pretty Vegas. I think that INXS would have liked to cancel him as the opening act, if they didn't already commit.

Reviews of his opening act have been pretty poor, so he'll disappear after this first leg. You reap what you sow, Marty.

Boy, Hoobie, I sure hope that the Vegas concert was just a problem with the sound and that INXS has gotten feedback to showcase JD more.

I hope I won't be disappointed -- especially since I not only have tix for this Saturday (Feb 11) in AC, but I have tix to next Saturday's show in Philly (Feb 17). If it's a disappointment, I'll have to sit through it twice.

I'm keeping optimistic and I'll be sure to report back.

7. "RE: SWITCH - The Tour"
LAST EDITED ON 02-10-06 AT 02:16 PM (EST)

Ok, I have now seen INXS as they were just here in Detroit on Wednesday.

While, there are somethings I agree with the original poster I have to disagree with much of it.

First, off for my show and the setlists I have seen for other shows INXS is not playing the entire new album with about 6 classics thrown in. Here was the set list for my show and others have used a similar set list. There were FIVE new songs.

Suicide Blonde . New Sensation . Devil's Party . Mystify . Disappear . By My Side . Afterglow . Taste It . Original Sin . Hungry . Never Let You Go . What You Need . Need You Tonight . Kick . Devil Inside . Pretty Vegas . Encore: The Stairs . Never Tear Us Apart . Don't Change

So that is 14 classics and 5 new songs. The set was one hour and a half.

About JD being given freedom to be JD. I disagree with that also. JD was allowed to be JD on my show. Infact you mention that he never went into the crowd. Actually JD and Marty both went into the crowd once. Marty went all the way to the back. JD tried but he was getting mobbed too much. I believe JD went into the crowd on Need You Tonight.

But JD was interacting nicely with the band. JD was talking to the audience. JD did once comment about the 'weed' smell in the audience and Andy shortly there after came up to him and whispered something in his ear.....I assume about the weed comment. But JD said it was about how good the audience was. I doubt that because if that were true...Andy just would've said it over his mike. I think the band is trying to tame JD a little. JD once said he promised that he would use no swear words and he didn't. I have heard past shows he swore a lot.

Hey JD is new at this stuff and the band is just trying to teach him the ropes. But I did see a lot of the JD we saw on tv. He and the band were really good. And it was a very good show.

As for Marty, he said something similar about making good friends with others was the best thing about Rockstar but it wasn't in any way a slap to INXS. Marty was ok. His music had a harder edge and while I liked some of it I was happy to hear Trees and his cover at the end. Marty also did Mr Brightside as performed on the show (acoustically).

The one disappointment I had with the show was something the original poster mentioned. JD did not use the megaphone on Pretty Vegas. I have no idea why....to me that is the best part of the song and enhances the performance. Other than that great show.

Thanks for the post, Wacko. Glad you enjoyed the show. What you recited sounds more like the articles I have read over the last couple of weeks of people seeing the show.

I'll find out for myself tomorrow night. Hopefully the weather won't mess things up too much around here.

15. "I Stand Corrected"
Perhaps waiting in line for my drink for 45 minutes (!!!) clouded my memory.

The set list you cited was much the same as the one I went to. However, I know that they didn't play 'The Stairs' at the LV concert and they did play 'Who's Your Man'.

I read afterwards that JD was ill, and I think on January 28th, he was probably feeling it more than on February 11th - and that too could be the reason that the instruments were louder than the vocals.

That being said, I stand by my thoughts on the band sort of over shadowing JD. JD was great, and he has recently knocked Rod Stewart out of my #1 spot for favorite male vocalist. He is uber-sexy and I left wanting more - a lot more.

Marty's snippiness was noted by others sitting next to me (and one guy that I ran into the next day in the poker room).

I would definitely like to see them in concert again and am such a smitten kitten over JD.

P.S. - I stepped outside once during the pre-show, and a guard told me that they would be partying at a neighboring casino after the show. DH wouldn't let me go, so I gambled at Mandalay Bay. I saw Garry Gary just hanging out with a woman, walking through the casino as if he's just a regular guy

9. "INXS Storm in A.C."
Too bad for the fans in NYC on the 12th, because INXS was socked in at the Borgata following a real snowstorm.

Well, the time finally arrived for my first INXS concert in about 16 years.

I.HAD.A.BLAST!!!!!

I'll start with Marty & his Lovehammers. I have never been a fan of his sound, but Marty does command the stage and he sounded good doing his thing.

The only notable difference to what has already been posted about Marty was the banter. No mention of RockStar -- Mostly comments about the "blizzard" and getting snowed in together at the hotel. He redeemed himself a little, in my eyes, following a comment where he THANKED INXS, because if it wasn't for them, his band would not have signed a deal with Epic and no one would know Marty Casey and more importantly the band Lovehammers. Then he said something to the effect that it's the band not Marty Casey, it’s the Lovehammers and he introduced the band members.

I was happy Marty acknowledged INXS in a positive way & noted that INXS gave his band a HUGE boost in their careers.

I was absolutely not disappointed one bit with INXS and JD. The room was filled to capacity before INXS started (many empty seats for Lovehammers) and everyone was on their feet from start to finish (down where I was, everyone remained seated during the Lovehammers).

No changes in the set they did as has been reported, with just 5 songs from Switch. The only one that was missing that I would’ve liked to hear was God’s Top 10, but without Suzie or another strong female for the duet, it was obvious they wouldn’t be able to do it.

I thought JD sounded great (& looked great, obviously). He absolutely DID NOT sound like a Michael Hutchence “impersonator” and did not in any way take any of Michael’s moves. JD added his own sound to the back catalogue, while doing it justice. He sounded great and sounded like JD. And he looked ALL.J.D. Damn, he is one hot guy.

I didn’t think it was too much or too little JD. It really was a good blend. It was obvious JD was the front man, but the band did not take a backseat in any way. They performed & looked like a close-knit band. Great energy & the feeling of true comradery.

No comments about pot or anything. I think he may have used the F-word twice. It’s not like he was vulgar, it was just typical rock-n-roll banter. Definitely not anything to be “alarmed about” that would (or should) offend anyone. I didn’t notice any young kids. There were some 50+, but the majority of the audience seemed to be in the 30 to 40 range & there were a lot of 20-somethings.

I have to say that my new wish is to be JD’s mic stand. WOW. He did a little thing with the mic stand during a riff that was rated R if you have a real good imagination. Yeah, it was great to watch & fantasize about. (*off in JD land right now*)

Anyway, it was a GREAT concert. They did not disappoint. JD looked hot, the band looked great (Jon & Gary are certainly no slouches, IMO). While Marty meandered all through the audience up into the stands (I was center stage on the floor), JD could only make it about one step from the stage and was mobbed and had to go back.

Also, while they let people take pics during the opening act -- security came around before INXS came on with the warning that if they see a cell phone or camera out during INXS’ performance, you will be ejected from the concert. I did manage to sneak one really, really quick pic when they came back for the encore, just put the camera up, hoped for the best & threw it back in my purse.

Oh and my friend who went along with me also really, really enjoyed the new INXS. He didn’t watch any RockStar and didn’t know JD, but he was really impressed by JD. He thinks INXS found the right guy and he really enjoyed the new sound. He was worried JD would be a cheesy M.H. poser and he gave his thumbs up. (So, that is a “non-biased” opinion )

Well, now I’ll see if there are any changes this Saturday at the Philly concert. I’m expecting the audience to be a little crazier than the one in AC. I had so much fun Sat that I am glad I get to see them again. IMO, they were that good.

They got rid of the megaphone. They gave the original to the Hard Rock Cafe in LA. And they gave a duplicate to the Hard Rock Cafe in Toronto. JD found it too heavy and they had problems with it not working right.

Sony has said that the second leg for the US will be June/July following the 2nd leg in Canada. Then they are doing Australia/New Zealand in August.

Sony Music is considering the idea of an INXS/Duran Duran tour in the future. Sony/Epic have both bands under contract. They say that the target audience for INXS is women 26-55.

The Lovehammers have stated they were not asked to open for the 2nd leg in Canada. So far except for JD's buddy Dave Gunning opening in Halifax. They have not announced who will open in Canada for the tour. Probably local Canadian talent.

Thanks for the info, Loree. You always have the scoop.

Not surprised that Marty is dropped from the Canadian leg. His sound just doesn't go well with INXS and with his comments and antics after RockStar, he burned some bridges, I think.

What would be nice is if they have Suzie opening for them. THEN she could also do the duet with JD on God's Top 10. I might even have to go to Canada and catch their concert up there, if they bring on Suzie. That's my suggestion -- SUZIE. She really has a great voice & INXS loved her.

I have to say I don't like the INXS/Duran Duran idea. So I am hoping it doesn't happen. I am just not that crazy about Duran Duran. And I think it would come off as a nostalgic type tour. INXS is trying to move forward. And I think touring with Duran Duran would just give the critics something else to harp on and call them washed up has beens.

EXACTLY what I think, Loree. I'm hoping the Duran/Duran is silly conjecture, IMO it would bring INXS down. They should get another Aussie band to join them in their next tour -- an up-and-coming to bring in more younger fans.

Partnering with Duran Duran would put INXS in the "has been" category. Duran Duran has been unsucessful in launcing their comeback thus far. Would not look good for INXS to tour with them, even as the headliner.

Oh Come On Guys! Duran Duran was Big and INXS was big. It would be a great tour. I had kinda hoped to see Duran Duran at some point, but partnering them with INXS would make this a sure ticket for me.....even though I had seen INXs a few days ago. For the most part Duran Duran and INXS are hasbeens....I personally hate the term. But someone else used it. Both INXS and Duran Duran are in the same category. You know what....I am in my late thirties and I am a hasbeen too. Both DD and INXS are liked by people our age....people who are not the target audience of the record industry....where you consider DD hasbeens the record industry considers us hasbeens. I think if INXS came one day in concert one day and Duran Duran the next....in the same city....they would be playing the same sized area.

LAST EDITED ON 02-22-06 AT 01:18 PM (EST)

Caught INXS and Lovehammers at Massey Hall in Toronto on February 6th. Great concert!!

First off with Lovehammers ... they sounded fantastic and put on a great show. Marty did his usual "mad conductor" thing and climbed up into the second balcony to do a song - he was definitely on his game that night! He said a nice blurb thanking INXS for this opportunity - basically along the lines that the Rock Star gig started out as something great for him, and it turned into something great for his band. It was nice. The bass player had a bunch of sliced up fingers (not sure why), but I believe 3-4 were bandaged up, and he did a fantastic job. Memorable point about their performance was when they invited a young boy on stage to "jam" with them, and the kid ended up playing "Smoke On The Water" on bass, while the bassist sat in the boy's seat. Marty also asked the audience if someone would "show him a good time" in Toronto as it was his first time there. All-in-all - a great show by Lovehammers. (Made me go out and get their new CD anyway.)

On to INXS ... sound was great, JD was great - really, really, really great concert!! I loved the blend of their old stuff, along with their new stuff. I thought JD put his own flair on the old stuff, but sometimes, I thought I could close my eyes and envision Michael Hutchence. It's almost eerie how similar their voices *can* be IMO. JD did a good job of gyrating up and down the mic - and he looked oh-so-hot while doing it! Hehe. No megaphone for Pretty Vegas. What disappointed me was that I really thought he would speak more about being back in Toronto and what it meant to him. However, I don't think he was able to muster up much because he was overwhelmed - that's just the vibe I got. He started to say something about being there, and appeared to get choked up, then said "Aw eff it, let's rock!". The rest of the band (with the exception of the bass player) seemed pretty blah. In fact, the lead guitarist only moved from his spot once during the first set. The bass player was really energetic and looked like he was having a great time. I think he and JD could get into some serious trouble - ha!

26. "RE: SWITCH - The Tour"
Last night Cincinnati finally got a taste of INXS and it went over great to a packed house. The demographics were bizarre with a 10 year old on our row and a 63 year old grandmother with everything else in between. The concert was fantastic, a great mix of old and new songs, full of energy and HOT JD action.

But I have to say the strangest thing occured outside the building before going inside. A woman was outside handing out flyers with links to Marty's websites, wanting to promote Marty because she was upset INXS removed him and because she doesn't like JD. I, like several people around me wondered if it was Marty's Mom. What middle aged woman toting around an about a 9 year old boy would do this. It was really strange. I don't know anyone who buys concert tickets for the opening act. Yes I would have liked to have seen Marty but it was certainly no show stopper that he was not there, after all I bought tickets to INXS.

Anyway, GREAT SHOW!

Interesting. So, who was the opening act? Anyone we might know of? I knew they were going to dump Marty after the initial leg was done and INXS's obligation was technically over. Marty made too many derogatory comments right after the show was done and shot himself in the foot.

Also, the 2 nights I saw INXS, there were MANY empty seats during Marty's opening act and then a packed house by the time INXS came on. Yeah, there were some die-hard Marty fans, but the crowd was less than enthused during his set.

The opening act was Dirtie Blonde. Sorry I forgot to mention that part but it was just that memorable. But they did have some fans in the audience. And at intermission they came out into the lobby and signed autographs for anyone interested. Oh and the megaphone was back!!

I'm seeing them in Milwaukee...close! I think Cinci is the day before Milwaukee.

Scott Stapp is opening for them starting in Cincinatti & through June dates. Doesn't thrill me, but I'm sure some people will like that.

I'm so excited! And I'll give you a full report when we get back!

Went to the show on May 13th in London, Ontario and LOVED it. The set list was great....awesome mix of old and new. JD seemed genuinely touched by the way the audience was going crazy for him....crazy Canadians! He also did this neat rap. Overall great night.

I'm with you Weltek...I'm getting annoyed at how concert promoters are doing that a lot lately.

My friend who also went to see INXS in London bought her tickets on-line 15 minutes after they went on sale to the public. She got 300 level way at the back. I'm a season ticket holder so I got in earlier...so would the the INXS fan club and promoters. That is not really fair to the general public. Well...my friend got the last laugh....she went up the guest services on the night of the concert and told them she had just had surgery and was advised by her doctor to not go up to the high level of the arena, so guest services gave her seats right beside the stage!

The whole thing is a crock!

ps. Have fun!

Oh trigirl wasn't the London show fantastic? It was my favourite show until the Niagara Falls show. I don't even know why, but it beat Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Kitchener. I mean JD and the band are always awesome. All the shows are wonderful. But there was alot of emotion that night and they sounded great in London.

Niagara Falls was just out of this world because it was such a small intimate setting (1500 seats). You felt like you were at a private party with the band. We were very close and got attention from the band. The audience was made up of real fans who were involved in the show and standing and singing and dancing. Then those people that had free tickets and just sat there. The band noticed the people that were invovled. And they were very good at giving attention to those of us. And JD practically ended up naked that night. ...Always a good thing. There was so much skin showing. I thought for sure he'd lose his pants because he kept grabbing on them and they were almost off. Can we say ripped front pants pocket exposing flesh! And the accoustics in that place are unbelievable.

Mark Burnett and cameramen, etc. were at the Toronto show. They were filming and the word is parts of it will be shown this season on RockStar. They were taping a follow-up to how JD and INXS have come together after the first season.

36. "Milwaukee show"
INXS is hot. Not just JD. All of them.

Scott Stapp as the opener? Not bad. He was better than I anticipated. Did a lot of old Creed stuff in addition to his new solo music. Not a long break between SS & INXS coming on. That was nice.

They had a curtain down with a 5 minute countdown timer (a few screams when it hit JDs # at 4:48). 3-2-1 *enter harmonica* The curtain raises & JD bursts on stage with Suicide Blonde. Holy carp did he look hot in his black suit, white shirt and yellow striped tie undone. Oh, and shades. Mmmmm. The pinnacle of JD hotness. The jacket came off soon after, then the tie. And about three songs in, he changed to a black t-shirt.

Ok, enough about JD hotness (for now). The set was simple, so nothing to report there. We were on Tim & Garry Gary's side of the stage, but were close enough to get a decent view of the whole band. Other than Jon. There was a cymbal blocking my view of him. *pout*

Notable performances:
Taste It. No, we didn't get the microphone sex, however he did a little sexy mic dance. And he did a fun rap with Taste It to intro the band.

By My Side. Ok, I'm biased. I love this song. It started out with all of them sitting around Jon's drum stand playing and singing. So intimate. JD's voice sounded FABULOUS on this one.

Other songs included:
Mystify
Need You Tonight
Devil Inside
Never Tear Us Apart
Don't Change
New Sensation
Original Sin
Kick
Afterglow
Pretty Vegas
Hot Girls
Never Let You Go (Yes, I said "Knockers would love this")
Devil's Party
Hungry

JD & the two backup singers (I think one is the girl that does the Afterglow backup vocals on the album) did a beautiful acapella of Amazing Grace. Absolutely beautiful. JD also did a spoken word thing that was odd, yet cool. Something in there about chocolate chip orgasms.

Tim is a horny rock star. He makes me laugh. He was always mugging for the crowd, playing with the ladies in the front row & generally hamming it up.

Andrew was looking quite cute. I think he's lost some weight. He and Kirk had some cute playful moments.

JD smoked & swore a lot. One lucky girl (I hope she was a smoker) got one of his half-smoked cigarettes. He also had a thing for ripping up signs people made. He'd take them up to Jon & show him, then rip them. Very odd. He did his homework on Milwaukee, referencing the city being about beer & Harley Davidson's.

I was disappointed there wasn't a little more banter from the band. Other than JD, nobody said anything to the crowd. Yesterday, I was reading my INXS: Story to Story book & it shed a little light on that. Their image, by their first manager, was very much about mystery. They were supposed to seem a little private & inaccessible, yet completely musically compelling. I guess that has carried through to present day.

Now for the picture story. I forgot to charge the batteries before I left, so there wasn't much juice to take pics left. Chris grabbed the camera, because that is what he always does. He takes a picture of Scott Stapp, knowing full well there isn't enough juice to take more than a few pics. Gah! He gets one of the band when they are doing Suicide Blonde. The camera shuts off. I looked at them yesterday & the SS one is perfect...if you are in to SS. INXS? Blurry, blurry, blurry. Sigh.

Glad you finally got to see them, Wellie. Sounds like JD is getting more and more comfortable in front of the audience (not that he was shy before). I would have loved to have heard Amazing Grace -- I know JD is a really good singer and not just a rocker, so damn, I'm jealous of you .

By My Side is one of my all-time faves, too. *Sigh*

There really wasn't too much banter at the concerts I saw, so it just seems as though they're getting better and better (no surprise). I cannot wait until they hit the recording studio on their second album -- I know it's going to be hotter than Switch and I'll be getting my tickets to their next tour as soon as they start it.

Listening to your descriptions makes me miss the band. I'm suffering JD/INXS withdrawal. And while I can't wait for the new RockStar to start, I really don't think I'm going to be as enthused about it like I was for INXS, because with INXS I was really vested in the outcome, because I loved INXS and I wanted to see them pick the roit guy (JD) and have a great comeback.

Well, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself and got to experience JD in the flesh -- he oozes charisma, doesn't he? Makes me all tingly in so many places

39. "JD gets hurt"
LAST EDITED ON 05-29-06 AT 10:24 PM (EST)

Saturday night at the Saskatoon show in Canada JD got hurt. He was singing the last song of the night "Don't Change" when he slipped/tripped and went down. They think he slipped on water on the stage. He was in obvious pain and got to the drum riser in front of Jon and finished the song. The rest of the band joined him sitting on the drum riser. He told Kirk and Garry Gary he couldn't walk and they carried him off the stage. The ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital. They did not have a show Sunday night (it was a travel day) and he is expected to perform in Calgary tonight. The band told people on Sunday that JD was resting comfortable on the tour bus. It is said to be a knee injury. And some people heard it was a pulled muscle. The band said he was in a leg brace and the local radio station said it was a cast. I guess we will hear more after the concert in Calgary tonight.

The night before in Winnipeg a drunk woman in the front row tried pulling JD off the stage and he was yanked into the barrier. It was said JD was not pleased and Garry Gary looked angry about it. Tim was yanked off the stage at an earlier show at the end of the first leg. And he was shaken up a bit. So the fans have to quit doing that.

Scott Stapp also took a fall the night in Saskatoon. But he leaped off the drum riser and slipped and hit his head on the monitor. But he was okay.

Not a good review, but here it is. INXS in Calgary.
...
The main reason? Fortune is a lame replacement for Hutchence.

Literally.

Suffering a mishap the previous evening in Saskatchewan, Fortune was hobbled by a leg-brace and kept slightly less frenetic than reports have had him at other shows.

Still, it's hard to imagine mobility was the biggest factor in Fortune's ineptness.

Remember we are talking about a city called Cowtown.

41. "RE: JD gets hurt"

Once again it is shown that those who cannot accept JD Fortune with INXS, will not accept JD Fortune with INXS. So many critics have said EXACTLY what this guy said. The only difference was the immiture double meaning to the word "lame".

I also think it's funny how the band, more often then not, gets a free pass, while JD gets hammered for being a) too young, b) too much like Hutchence, c) too little like Hutchence, d) too energetic/too frantic/trying too hard, or d) all of the above. If you don't like them, or the new music, apply your venom equally to the band. None of this, JD sucks, he "tries too hard", his lyrics are lame....but the band is great and as tight as ever. You either like the music and not, but hold the entire band responsible regardless.

I wish some of these critics would be honest with themselves and their readers (some have been) and say, there is no way I will like this or understand how anyone else could like it. Put the diclaimer up front, so us fans don't have to read hoping to find an open mind where none exists.

Thanks for the info, Loree. INXS probably would have been even higher if they played the larger venues, like Madonna & Stones, but I'm glad they opted for the smaller size venues for the tour. I was lucky to have excellent seats at both shows I saw, but even if I was stuck towards the back those seats were still close enough to see the band without binoculars or screens.

I won't even go to the arena concerts anymore unless I get the premium seating, which costs way too much and with the way they sell tickets (TicketMaster) are very hard to come by.
