"Heather: Sous Chef to the star."
Does that mean her own has faded? It's been decidedly more than a year since her season, so her winner's contract expired a long time ago. And being Gordon's assistant isn't something you can do part-time even if you have your own restaurant next door: the hours are long, the work is hard, and if the contestants are being woken at four in the morning, just who do you think gets to wake them? You. And you had to be up at three.

I don't know if her being here represents Gordon having decided she needs a little more grooming before she goes on to the next level and taking her directly under his wing, hiring her as a long-term employee, or taking pity on her because she hasn't been able to get work. (Fine dining doesn't necessarily do all that well in a recession -- even if the people visiting the place are economy-proof, the suppliers aren't.) She's back, and I don't really have any objections to her showing up -- I'd just like to know why.

I found this interview http://www.shewired.com/Article.cfm?ArticlePage=4&ID=23209
Article Date: 07/06/2009

SC: Well, considering that you won, I’d say so.

HW: Yeah, and after the show I went to Las Vegas. They threw me in there for a one-year contract. It was great, but a lot of the time you end up kind of feeling like Mickey Mouse. You just stand there and wave and meet hundreds of thousands of people. It was the first reality show where after it wrapped, people could actually go and see the winner. Which was fun, but scary at the same time. And then I moved to Seattle for six months and then North Carolina to spend some time with my sister. And it was while I was there that I got a phone call about a job in LA. I can’t actually talk about details of it right now, but I’ve been out here in LA for that job since December.

So basically after the one year with the winner's prize it doesn't sound like there were a lot of jobs lined up.

Didn't see this post before I asked this question on my other post. BUT, ok. I see now what's going on. Sort of. It's all still a bit confusing, but I guess the bottom line is: things didn't work out the way she thought they were going to, so she is now taking the former Maryanne's place.

Good luck with that one, Heather!
