"Conspiracy Theories R Us" |
I was going to post this last week to expound upon my theory that the main reason it's Bonnie in the finals and not Jen is that Rock is clearly a better chef than Bonnie is. If the finale had more closely-matched contestants for Chef to choose from, it would be too hard. And maybe there would be some kind of snit by viewers, like there is at the end of many reality shows where people whine that the ending was fixed. Of course, Bonnie is photogenic, attractive and expressive. A really good DAW, in fact. Which is another reason why she's in the finale and not Jen.Just FTR, I'm not whining. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not! *perfectly appropriate foot stomp* {/not whine} So this week did nothing to make me feel any differently. As a matter of fact, I even think that the taste-test challenge was organised the way it was so that the final tasters would have the tie-breaking vote. The last two challenges were won by Julia and Jen, who were then booted in the very episodes that had marked their respective triumphs. So this win pretty much spells the end for Bonnie, as if there wasn't already enough reasons for her not to win. Anybody got any other theories? I'm only half joking. Technically, I think reality shows are still 'game shows' and legally, they can't predetermine the outcome. However, this show is a bit like judging Olympic figure skating before the new rules - it's easy to get the winner you want because taste is so subjective. Additionally, I'm aware that editting can make people look worse or better depending on what footage is used, so we can be rather easily misled about the contestants' capabilities.

I think it may be a combination of what you and Snidget said.In an interview with Ramsay in yesterday's USA Today he was asked about the spaghetti incident and he admitted that, had it been served, it would have definitely shut the place down. He said that Bonnie has an incredible pallate, one that Chef's around the country would be wishing they had, along with the imagination and creativity to pull off some wonderful dishes. But, we all know that she doesn't have the depth and experience to run a kitchen day in and day out. (My comment, not his.) Rock has the experience, but Chef worries about his volatile temper and whether he can actually lead a staff without alienating them. That said, if Rock manages to get folks to perform and not try to sabotage him, he should win. If only because I don't think the restaurant is going to be willing to give a go to an untried, inexperienced, Chef to head their brand new resort kitchen. I think that's what did in Julia, too. She has the ability, but not the credentialed chops to back it up and look good in the advertising. On a side note re Jen and that spaghetti... Given some of the kitchen's she's worked in it really kind of makes you wonder... Shar's summer blogging's scary

I was thinking along the same lines. The only reason I see Bonnie winning is based on how she can actually run the kitchen. She seemed more adapt than Roc at that part, and the whole designing/uniform/menu. He really seemed as though he was overwhelmed, I even think he said that he was. That is the major thing for me to get a Bonnie win, is that she is more prepared in the actual running/organized part.
I liked Jen too, and hope Julia comes back after her schooling. What?

I couldn't help but notice that Bonnie seemed to have all the "private" confessionals in the last show. I was really thinking that Rock was going to win it, but now I think Bonnie wins.
