"Sylvester Stallone on Howard Stern - Summary"
Sylvester Stallone was just on the Howard Stern Radio show promoting The Contender whih airs tonight. Here are the highlights...

- Sly denied sleeping with Pam Anderson (he said he only knew here when she was dating Scott Baio), denied sleeping with Cindy Crawford, denied sleeping with Sharon Stone (did a love scene in a movie with her). All of which Howard had on his list to check on.

-Both Howard and Sly have dated Angie Everhart. Angie once said Howard was the best lover she ever had. Howard said that was his Rocky momment when she said that.

-Sly said his current wife TIVO'd the Surreal Life when Bridgette Nielson was on there and couldn't believe Sly was actually married to her.

-Sly said he turned down 360K to sell his Rocky script (which was a lot money in 1976) to the studio. He held out for 3 months until the studio agreed to let him play the lead role (they were considering Ryan O'Neal or James Conn). The studio agreed to let him do it but he had to make the movie in 30 days (he did it in 28 days) and could spend no more than 960K on it.

-Sly didn't come up with the Rambo concept but says his input helped make the movie a success. His input was to remove all of the dialogue from the main Rambo character and have someone narrorate the movie to tell Rambo's story. He also said everyone else in Hollywood had turned the Rambo role down.

-Sly said after Rambo he got duped into paying 1.3 million on a worthless piece of art. He bought a painting that had a big buldge in the middle. The buldge was straw and started to break apart from the painting after a few weeks. When Sly questioned the artist about the painting falling apart the artist said his work was "evolving".

-Sly says he didn't come up with The Contender concept but his involvement gives it credibility like Trump gives The Apprentice credibility. The show is a real life Rocky concept.

-Sly was working on Rocky VI (no joke there will probably be another Rocky movie) when he was approached about doing The Contender.

That's about it.

Stallone didn't produce or direct the first Rocky -- John Avildsen did (and won an Oscar for it). Avildsen already had directed Save the Tiger, for which Jack Lemmon won his Best Actor Academy Award, and would go on to direct the Karate Kid movies, among others. No matter what Stallone says, he wasn't the one responsible for "making" Rocky under a tight timetable.

I'd expect that the point at which this movie was greenlighted was the point when Avildsen agreed to direct with Stallone starring. (Stallone had unsuccessfully auditioned for a previous Avildsen movie, W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings, BTW.)

The first Rambo movie, First Blood, was directed by a fine although underrated director named Ted Kotcheff (North Dallas Forty, The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Uncommon Valor). Stallone did do a credited rewrite of the screenplay (which was originally co-written by Michael Kozoll, who co-created Hill Street Blues with Steven Bochco), and he may well have moved the "explanation" of Johnny Rambo to Col. Trautman's character, but neither the story nor screenplay were his.

For the second Rambo movie, Stallone co-wrote the screenplay with the brilliant James Cameron (Titanic, The Terminator, Terminator 2, Aliens). The third Rambo movie, where Stallone co-wrote the screenplay with an unknown, immediately killed the series.

Oh, and Rocky V is one of the worst screenplays ever, and Stallone wrote it without help.

Hey I know alot of us are watching The Contender becuase we love Sly. We all know what he brings to the table.

Another Rocky? Oh no! Oh yes! Who knows. Sly has said over and over again that there will be no more Rocky's. Sly is in great shape and could still make another Rocky movie or two. George Foreman came back when he was like 60 years old to win the title so Sly still has time to make it sellable to the public. Hey maybe he should use George in the next movie. That would be sweet.

Don't forget Sly had to sell poor Butkus and then pay a handsome fee to get him back

Yo Butkus!

Read how Butkus got his name:

BTW I forgot Sly was married to Briggette Nielsen. Has any one seen her on the Sureal life? She is nothing more than an Alcoholic and a chronic smoker. She must of been great in bed though. Flavor Flav seems to think so and she is older than dirt now. LOL
I am sure Sly is thinking: I was with her?

Even funnier is the follow-up to Surreal Life. Strange Love, I think it's called, where Flava Flav (or Foofy Foofy, as Brigitte calls him) goes to Italy to win her hand. Train wreck TV. You know it's wrong but you can't stop watching.

thanks for the recap. I saw episodes of Briget neilson on the Surreal Life. She be fugly now. The buzz has always been that BN got a multimillion dollar divorce settlement from Sly, so one would have to wonder why she ever agreed to be on such a show. A true DAW. I would have never thought that Angie Everhart would have dated Howard Stern. wow

I guess it all depends on how well The Contender does in the ratings. (Crossing my fingers)
