"RE: Alfie signs with Detroit" This seems to be stemming from the fact that the owner of the Sens, Eugene Melnyk, is in some pretty serious financial straits and is going through a messy (are there any clean ones?) divorce right now. My guess is that Alfie said 'I'm only playing one more season, I'd prefer it to be on a team that is actively trying to win a Cup. What will you (the Sens) do to move in that direction?' To which Murray had to say 'I can't. My hand are tied. I have to work inside a $50 cap.' Unless Melnyk says it is thus, we'll never hear it because neither Alfie (too much class) or Murray (won't bite the hand that feeds him) will throw Melnyk under the bus for outing him but there is certainly enough out there to connect the dots. Check out Travis Yost's blogs on hockeybuzz. Quality blogs almost every time. Wow. Sens just traded Noessen and Silfverberg for Bobby Ryan. I can't say that I like that deal. "RE: Alfie signs with Detroit" Actually, I think the Sens have been trending down ever since Peter Chiarelli (who was from Nepean, after all) left. But this is still a shame. As a Wings fan, I should be more pleased, but I despise Alfredsson. I guess I have to root for the Wings and for Alfredsson to somehow avoid getting his name on the Cup if they do, in fact, win it all, just as I did when Bertuzzi was there.
