7. "Really?"
I guess that means I should never cheer for Montreal, except that I grew up as a Canadiens fan (the Cleveland Barons were the Canadiens' top farm club back in the Original 6 days, but the Barons' owner decided not to join the NHL when it expanded, to Cleveland's continuing regret).

Vokoun was chased afyer falling behind 3-0 in the first period; Fleury wasn't a whole lot better. More great play from Krejci and Horton, but there was plenty of credit to go around -- especially by Brad Marchand, whose breakaway goal in the first 30 seconds set the tone for the game.

True enough. Rask has proven himself -- even if he isn't as good as Thomas at his best, he also doesn't have the collapses that Thomas was prone to from time to time. He's stuck with the Bruins without complaining even though he couldn't push past Thomas as the starter (except for the 2009-10 season when Thomas wasn't playing at 100%), which led to him spending a lot more time in the minors or on the bench than he ever expected.

And Horton has made the trade of Dennis Wideman, a first rounder and a third rounder to Florida for Gregory Campbell and Horton into grand larceny (not just petty theft), because he's been so solid.

The thing about the current Bruins is that they don't really have superstars (except perhaps for Zdeno Chara), but they throw out four solid lines and three solid defensive combinations on each and every shift. Right now, the team is so solid that, to activate Ds Dennis Seidenberg and Andrew Ference for the Pittsburgh series after their injuries, they had to bench rookie D Matt Bartkowski, who was one of the Bruins' best players against the Rangers in the prior round.

LAST EDITED ON 06-06-13 AT 00:44 AM (EST)

Really, both goals in regulation were flukes, but the run of play completely favored the Penguins. Tuukka Rask needs to buy the goalposts a couple of drinks, considering the number of good shots that they stopped.

In overtime, though, the Bruins generated most of the chances and finally won after 95 minutes of hockey when ancient (41!) Jaromir Jagr outworked Evgeni Malkin for the puck and fed it to Brad Marchand, who put it brilliantly on Patrick Bergeron's stick for a goal that Tomas Vokoun had no chance of stopping.

No one in Boston is lamenting the loss of Jarome Iginla after that hustle play by Jagr. Jagr has finally started to click for the Bs now that he's on the same line with Marchand and Bergeron. Bergeron may be a Selke winner as a defensive forward, but there wasn't anything defensive about that play.

I honestly don't think the Penguins can play any better than they did in Game 3. But it still wasn't good enough.

Even though this is the Stanley Cup semifinals, they still have to fight for the arena. Apparently the Chicago arena will be home to a Rolling Stones concert on Monday night, so rather than 2 days off they went for back-to-back games. Maybe they also had to factor in other arena availability for the series.

Well, ignoring NBC's BS, it looked like Keith was just trying to hook Carter so that Carter didn't blow by him (as Carter was already doing) -- but he was off-balance and hit him in the face instead.

Without the face hit, this is just a two-minute minor penalty. A one-game suspension seems fair under the circumstances.

When is your next eye appointment....I think you need new glasses.

Trying to hook him? He was trying to slash him for the slash on the hand while picking up the glove and he was in perfect balance. Yes, I don't think he meant to get it up high but it did and he should be gone for 2 is Justin got 2 for his hit.

Plus where was the call for the cross check and hand slash by Carter first?

These refs suck.

I agree with you, Hobbs - it was a foolish and careless retaliation penalty (to the slash to his ungloved hand). But the retaliation was worse.

The officiating was bad all over, including the non-call on the hook that lead to the winning goal in OT. The commentators here were joking about it becoming almost unofficiated, and that really spoiled a great game, IMO.

So we get the Original 6 final, as if predestined.

Frankly, Chicago always looked like the better team in this game. LA had a few chances, and Crawford is nowhere near as good as Quick, but Chicago really controlled the run of play for the entire 90 minutes. LA's tying goal with 10 seconds to go in regulation was a total fluke -- but it gave the Kings a chance, and they at least didn't roll over and play dead after that.

Lemme see if I can do this...

2011: ONE O6 team (Boston)
2010: The HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWKS!!!!!! But Just the Hawks.
2008-09: Red Wings. And no other O6 before than since 2002 - ALSO the Wings. And going back further...1994, 1997, and 1998 were ALSO the Wings against non-O6 teams. So...what the hell, rest of O6?
1994: Rangers. And to think that the damn Blackhawks were the ones to snap the 16 years of no O6 teams that aren't owned by pizza magnates.
1993: The Habs and their annoying goalie.
1992: The HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWKS!!!!!! get swept by the Pens.
1990: Oilers beat the Bruins.
1989: Habs lose to the Flames.
1984-88: Oilers dominate but the Habs sneak one in over...fvck. Can't remember who. (Looked it up - Calgary. Not O6.
1980-83: The Islanders are surprisingly relevant for four years. And not O6.

So yes, 1979 between the Rangers and Habs. Had to look that one up, too.
