"NHL Playoffs 2013 - Stanley Cup Finals discussion thread"
#4 east Boston vs #1 west Chicago

Chicago was #1 overall this season.
Boston was #6 overall.
Boston won Cup in 2011.
Chicago won Cup in 2010.

In this year's playoffs:
- Boston has played 16 games, Chicago has played 17.
- Boston has scored the most goals with 50, Chicago (#3) has scored 47.
- Boston has GAA of 1.74 to Chicago's 1.84.
- neither team has been splendid on the power play (B 15.6%, C 13.7%)
- Chicago'a penalty kill has been much better than Boston's (94.8% vs 86.5%)

But what will they do head to head? Time to discuss!!

1. "Game 1"
I hope the B's don't regret losing this game. They were clearly superior for most of the game.

Strike 1: I stayed up until the end to watch.
Strike 2: I have a midterm the day after the game.
Strike 3: I was rooting for the Bruins.

FML.

I moved to Boston last fall - what a difference between New York and Boston regarding hockey. Hockey is definitely the 4th sport, mostly forgotten except among the hockey fans in the tri-state area. Up here it is a religion! Even at the Red Sox game on Sunday there were fans holding up signs for Tuukka. I'm not a hockey fan but I can't help but get caught up in the fever. I think I might have to watch the next game, the first one was so exciting!

The funny thing is, "hockey fever" in Boston was dead, dead, dead while Horrible Harry Sinden was running the Broons over the last twenty years. But the Stanley Cup in 2011, combined with Larry Lucchino's destruction of the Red Sox at the end of 2011, changed all that. Now, Boston feels like it did back in Bobby Orr's day.

And I grew up with the Bobby Orr Boston Bruins in Hartford, which at the time for sports, was like Boston South. It's deja vu all over again!

8. "2-1 Bruins (OT)"
LAST EDITED ON 06-17-13 AT 07:50 PM (EST)

Didn't want to post, because this series (at least right now) seems to be too close to be casual about anything. Stevie Wonder may sing "superstition ain't the way", but all that proves is that he was never a sports fan.

Game 2 may have been relegated to the old Versus (now NBC Sports Network) in the US, but it really seemed so tight the whole way (except for the first period, dominated by the Hawks) that you felt more like you were watching a tightrope walker over Niagara Falls than a hockey match.

The same reason I didn't post during Det/Chi. I hope the B's put them away.

2-0 with seconds to go. Boston doesn't seem to lose at home, and doesn't seem to give up goals at home, and Chicago better find some magic for game 4.

Ouch. Series tied 2-2, game 5 on Saturday. Haed to believe that basketball will be done before hockey.

13. "Game 5: Chicago wins 3-1"
Hawks got away with a blatant tripping penalty that allowed them to steal the puck for the empty-net goal at the end of regulation. Since no penalty was called, even though both referees were looking at the play, that must mean that tripping in that fashion is now legal. Look for a number of Blackhawks to be littering the ice in Game 6 after similar plays.

14. "Hawks win Stanley Cup"
Seems familiar, Boston?

Two goals by the Hawks with 1:16 left turned a Boston win into another overtime game into a Cup winner by Dave Bolland in a hurry.

Congrats, Chicago.
