This should be entertaining. There hasn't been this much blackmail material available in an NFL game since Hoodie left the stadium last night.

I'm calling this one 'Cain vs. Cain'.

1. "The Las Vegas sportsbooks say..."
...San Francisco by 4. (Which basically means they have no bloody idea and are just hoping not to get hurt too badly.) This line could shift as the money comes in -- of the two, the 49ers are much more of a national team, even if their bandwagon hasn't moved in a decade or so and needs time to dust the empty seats.

Meanwhile, Ray Lewis would like it known that this line is disrespecting his deity. An amazing number of things do that. And somehow, none of them ever include Ray Lewis. Odd, isn't it?

2. "RE: The Las Vegas sportsbooks say..."
The line has gradually slipped to 3½ as the bookies take in the Ravens bets. Don't expect it to fall to 3, though, with there being a huge statistical gap between a FG and half a point above that.

Meanwhile, the 3-point Pro Bowl lines in favor of the NFC have evaporated (for those bookies even offering bets on it) and it's mostly pick 'em across the board.

13. "RE: The Las Vegas sportsbooks say..."
On the eve of the Pro Bowl, the AFC has a scanty one point line with about 80 on the over/under.

The Suphar Baughl is still running at 3½ for the Niners.

20. "Line update"
Running heavy at SF -4 except MGM and Sportsbooks, the three and a half line doesn't hold as easy as it is.

Good time for the Ravens liners to place their bets.

3. "So much for the usual tactics."
After Roy Fox, ordinary fan, put a trademark on 'Harbowl', the NFL tried to get it away from him. And having discovered that they couldn't fine, suspend, or fire him, they've had to settle for the strange tactic of just apply pressure until he gave in. Because no one is allowed to make money off the sport unless they're an owner. Football players can generally be counted on to go broke after they retire. This man? Is a threat.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/playoffs/2012/story/_/id/8873809/2013-nfl-playoffs-nfl-pressures-fan-nix-harbowl-trademark

In case you needed more proof of Goodell being a jerk.

Meanwhile, Colin Kaepernick has hurriedly filed a trademark on 'Kaepernicking' (the act of kissing one's bicep), just in case anyone ever wants to do that without paying him first. Let's see how long the league lets him keep his own name.

And in other news, Tom Brady was fined $10k for his spikes-up slide into Ed Reed. Hoodie plans to file a lawsuit against Mr. Reed, accusing him of having legs solely in order to trick his innocent quarterback into making contact with them. But he's willing to drop it if every player on every other team agrees to a double amputation.

He is prepared to apply pressure.

And, meanwhile, Frank Gore was fined $10.5k for not having his socks pulled up high enough.

Good to know the NFL has its priorities straight - having socks lower than allowed on the leg is worth a bigger fine than potentially destroying an opponent's knee (if Reed hadn't lifted his leg into the air a split second earlier, it would have been planted in the turf when Brady spiked him).

I wonder if Junior Seau's family lawsuit could use this as a defense exhibit as proof that the NFL's priorities on player safety are out of whack.

And you're confusing baseball (spikes) with football (cleats). Splkies are sharp and cutting, cleats are dull and bruising.

Ray Lewis is the exception; rumor is he wears golf spikes.

Interesting... I've never seen it used as "_______ cleats _______" or "________ cleated _________".

I took a quick look at Google and there are many links saying "Brady spikes Reed". In contrast, there isn't a single link saying "Brady cleats Reed" but many with "Brady slides cleats-up on Reed" or some variation like that.

No biggie, just an interesting way of how the English language can be used to insert a sports word into the lexicon in a way where it might otherwise not be used.

12. "Revis Buy-My-Own-Island."
Putting this here because it's giving the local papers something to cover which isn't the game. He's asking $100m.

I'm going to repeat that. He wants a new contract worth one hundred million dollars. Sixty million guaranteed. And because the Jets have just enough cap room to buy something without a brim, they have responded by looking to trade him for draft picks: currently asking for a #1 and a #2. Revis, who has apparently either not looked at the salary cap figures, is incapable of caring, or just figured they'd cut most of the team to accommodate him, was shocked by this. After all, he did nothing all year and got paid for it. Sanchez did less than that and got paid even more! So where's his? They can't just get rid of him because they can't afford him!

Yes, they can. The next question is 'where to'.

As it turns out, Mr. Lewis, you can be tried twice on the same charge -- by the media. And 'twice' is going to be the low end.

Asked if they believe God plays a role in who wins, 27% of Americans said yes.

And presumably the other 73% worship the football gods.

Disgusted.

WFAN reported that one of the other accused from the double murder announced he'll have a book coming out that lifts the curtain on the night's events. Sadly:

A. It comes out in June.
B. Would you trust it?
C. If there's anything relevant in it, it'll probably be bought off.

I'm told that to listen to the original radio interview and read his non-apology after is to wonder if the only skill he picked up in school was the one which let him find someone who would do his homework for him.

If it turns out that he did in fact take illegal drugs in order to heal from his earlier injury so quickly, do we arrest Jesus?

Jesus tells him to do everything.
