Will Manziel, "Johnny Football", be the first freshman winner? He certainly has the best highlight moments. The regular season ending game presented little drama aside from a tackle on Manziel that hushed the Kyle Field (Aggie) crowd when he grabbed for a knee. But as for the stats, "Manziel threw for three touchdowns and rushed for two more, just another ho-hum night in a season where Manziel has made super-human numbers seem almost normal. Manziel ended his regular season with a staggering 21 scores through the air and another 19 on the ground, finishing half his games (six) with multiple passing and receiving touchdowns in the same game. In the process of Saturday night’s win, Manziel also broke Cam Newton’s single season SEC total yardage record." http://www.bloguin.com/crystalballrun/2012-articles/november/missouri-texas-a-m-johnny-manziel-heisman-favorite.html And all of this accomplished against (mostly) SEC opponents, including the vaunted upset of No.1 Alabama. A freshman quarterback, playing on a team in their first season in the SEC, with a new coach and offensive/defensive staff and schemes, and with a number of other key offensive spots being filled by freshmen. Some defensive and special team spots also. In my view Texas A&M is, at the end of the season, the best team in college football, notwithstanding the initial loss to Florida (first game in SEC - against Florida no less- with aforementioned freshman Q'back and coach and offensive/defensive schemes) that they lost by 3 points, or the LSU loss - 2 missed field goals.

He has an extra factor working against him: the voters have no idea who he is as a person. As I understand it from the SI article, his team prohibits freshmen from speaking to the media -- any media -- in any way, shape, or form. Off the field, he's a total unknown. Vote for him and you really are casting for a pile of stats. The human has never been met.

Win 2 more Heismans, leave a year early, get drafted 1st and then blow out his ACL and turn into a complete flop as a pro?

LAST EDITED ON 12-09-12 AT 04:29 PM (EST)He'll probably do well for the remainder of his college career if the Aggies can get him some O-line replacements like the those he was behind this year and can remain unhurt (he hasn't learned the quarterback slide yet, apparently). Hard to see him in the pros though. His size (specifically, his height) isn't something he can change, and a 6' quarterback is at a disadvantage. Someone might take a chance on him, though, his scrambling ability is phenomenal. Flutie did alright, but even he had to go to the CFL. Manziel has speed and could conceivably switch to safety or wide receiver. Poetic would be for him to get drafted by Miami, switch to wide receiver, and play with Ryan Tannehill, his predecessor at A&M. Meanwhile, he could go after Archie Griffin's record of multiple Heisman's. After all this is over though, he has his post football career assured when Disney goes to make "the Legend of Johnny Football". I think mouse ears would look natural on him.

That dude, he accounted for more than five field lengths, 516 yards, raking in a 41-13 win against the Okies!
