It's that time of the year again, folks... time to put on your baseball caps and gloves, and it's spring training for studying up on your fantasy baseball positional tiers! Our OT fantasy league is up and running again -- and it'd be nice to get more than the 6 teams we had last year, a record low. Can we get 8 or 10 teams into the league this time around? The skinny: League ID#: 147834 League Name: OT Baseball Freaks Password: offtopic Live draft will take place on Monday, March 28th at 9:30 pm ET Categories and positions will be adjusted accordingly to how many teams we ultimately have in the league, but here's what we have for now: Positions - C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, LF, CF, RF, OF, Util, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, P, P, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, DL, DL Batter Categories - Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Batting Average (AVG) Pitcher Categories - Wins (W), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP) It's a Head-to-Head league format, but can easily be changed to roto format if people prefer it. Changes and new ideas are always welcome - anything to bring in more people and make it fun!

Thanks Max. So, do all the players except the Bn and the DL score points every day? How and when do you change your line-up?

LAST EDITED ON 03-14-11 AT 10:01 PM (EST)Hey michel... it works the same way as in the NFL fantasy league you joined last year for the first time (and I might add, one that you did very well in ). Yes, you score points for whoever you have in the starting lineup that day and none for those who you have on the bench that day. You can make changes on a daily basis where needed by moving players in and out of the lineup - it can be done daily or you can come in once or twice a week to set your lineup for the week. You'll find that you would tend to leave your regular players plus relievers in the lineup every day and rotate your starting pitchers. The only time you likely would need to do a lot of line-up setting is if you've got a couple of OFs who may do very well at home and is average on the road (Carlos Gonzalez for one) so you want to play matchups or home/away platoons, or if you've got an injury-prone player that you want to see if he's in the lineup that day or not. Another time you may want to watch for lineup changes is Mondays and Thursdays as that's when the day offs for certain teams take place and you might want to rotate in a bench player for a starter who's getting the day off. Hope this info helps ... and hope to see you in the league!

OKI have a question, what is the difference between an SP, P and RP? I get that an SP is a Starting pitcher, and RP is a relief pitcher, is a P either of those (whoever is available)?

Correct, a P can be either an SP or an RP. You can fill P slots on your roster with either an SP or an RP.

The draft was fun. I wound up with a few players I never thought I'd draft. Did I miss something on Jeter? No one was drafting him. Who took Vlad right before me?

28. "Bautista..." |
From today's Toronto Star newspaper...... In the fantasy world of rotisserie baseball leagues, {Jose} Bautista’s breakout season — 54 homers, 124 RBIs and an MLB-leading 351 total bases — aren’t worth squat. And despite blossoming into a bona fide star, the Blue Jays right fielder is nowhere near the top of most fantasy-league draft lists. The consensus: Bautista’s huge 2010 doesn’t guarantee a 2011 productive enough to satisfy the strict, possibly unrealistic, standards of fantasy owners, who play for things more valuable than money. Things like pride and bragging rights, either of which can keep a poolie from gambling that Bautista can approach his 2010 stats this year. “It might be the fear of looking like an idiot,” said James Smith, who took Milwaukee’s Carlos Gomez with his top fantasy pick. “There’s not much reward if you pick him high and he does well, but there’s a lot of risk if you pick him high and he doesn’t do well. Then you just look like that sucker who picked up Jose Bautista.” Worrying about looking like an idiot, James? Don't worry, that ship has sailed a long, long time ago.
Yeah, I considered that maybe they actually meant to type in Carlos Gonzalez there, but they did include Gomez's correct team, Milwaukee...
