35. "no chance to water up?????"
What I liked about the "DYI workout" was the fact that it seemed as though they went straight to the scales, so it probably wasn't possible for anyone to water up for the first numbers.........just an idea.

I don't like the twist either -- all of them really need help. It sounds like only one will be able to return, in one month. Do you think the producers were so annoyed at the Vicky/Brady/Heba/Ed thing that this is their solution?

Seems they get bigger every season.

Two teams are safe.

Dane and Blaine who won immunity in the challenge. The team that wins the weight in will be safe.

The other nine teams will have to choose one member to go home.

HARSH!

Has to be a combination of the wrong genes and really bad environment.

Although I've seen a few kids around here that look like they are on that kind of trajectory as I didn't think you could get as heavy as they are by the first or second grade.

oooooh! I had a thought (& no it didn't hurt!)
Did they say one from each team was going home? or leaving the BL campus?

Wouldn't it be great if those leaving were sent to another place to train with another trainer? without their teammate back at the ranch knowing? That would be kewl!

There is a way back.

Your partner that stays on the ranch, if they still on the ranch at the end of 30 days your partner comes back.

Gives the one at home a lot to work for, and gives the one that remains on the ranch a lot to work for.

Keeps people from the "just as long as I'm not in last place" mode and in "I have to win each week" mode. Or one would think.

LAST EDITED ON 01-06-09 AT 09:57 PM (EST)

When the Orange team was starting to work out and they didn't have their water bottles with them, that was so clearly staged so they could advertise the Brita water filters and stuff.

I don't care for the twist. What's the point of calling it Biggest Loser "couples" if 9 of the couples are split up in the first episode?

At least it was Brita product placement, instead of Subway, for a change! I actually went to Wal-Mart and bought a Brita pitcher Wednesday. It's going to be cheaper than buying all that bottled water for home use. So, that's a product placement that makes sense to me.
As were the Zip-Lock microwave steamer bags featured last year. I use them all the time. I'm much more likely to eat vegetables if I can "micro-steam" them. It takes too long to get a pan of water boiling enough for stove-top steaming. And, then there's the clean-up.
As for splitting the "couples" up so early in the competition, they're left with 13 contestants. So, they can't form pairs. Or, teams with equal numbers. Guess it'll be "every man for himself" for a while.

I know game shows aren't designed to be fair but......
this is only fair IF the one with the lowest % of weight loss goes home each week. This is going to be even worse when someone is sent home because of game play.

I agree, it should be based on weight loss or trainer input, however, I don't know how fair that could be.

The strategic playing of last season could definitely ruin this season.

I was soooo excited for this season to begin and now I felt a little betrayed by the 'twist' of so many contestants going home. Boo!

Comparing this to last season, I like the new twist over the nasty, hateful gameplay of last season. Still, I'm not very enthusiastic about getting these people's hopes up to be on the show, then sending them home. I know some of those peeps will get to come back, but there will be 4 (?) who won't get to when their partners get voted out of the Biggest Loser Ranch during the 30 days. *sigh*

19. "Disappointment"
Im am not thrilled with this season because of this twist. Maybe after the second week but right off the bat?! With such big people they needed more training and potentially bigger weight loss numbers in my opinion.

Plus, as a non-fan of Bob's, I don't think its fair for the teams to start off unevenly. I think the green team should have gotten to stay together on the ranch as well as the brown team to make it even. I think they're stacking it for Bob to have a win, but it will backfire because you could tell that Pink, Purple and Grey were all the weaker teams.

I'm not crazy about the twist either. Of all the seasons, this group of contestants all seem to need the help. Re: Bob having more players from the beginning - I don't think it matters that much. His team members don't seem to be that strong. I don't think having Joelle on his team is a positive.

I will say that my hopes for this season are really high after last season's nastiness. Last season, I disliked Brady/Vicky from the very first episode. So far, I liked everyone.

I could just ditto you.

Hated the twist. I'm like someone below, I think if they were going to do this then they should have given everyone a free pass for 2 or 3 weeks and then had a triple elimination. They say it takes 21 days to make something a habit, so at the 3 week mark they could have had a triple and it would have given those going home more confidence that they could continue.

I wonder if it was a combo of the mean game playing last season and the fact that so many past contestants have been shown to have gained most if not all the weight back. Wanting to prove it can be done at home and not just at the ranch?

I've wondered that, too. It might be that the producers just wanted to cause a ruckus with the contestants and this had not been done before. I think this strategy would have had a greater effect last season when contestants were either married couples or blood relations. I just don't know that being BFFs is enough of a motivation for some people.

A saving grace is that while this season was being filmed, the contestants did not have a chance to see the Icky season and so they can't aspire to being evil and conniving. However, future seasons... I can see it happening from certain people who are only interested in making waves and being on tv rather than losing weight.

The twist sucked!! Way too soon to go home! And it is called Biggest Loser Couples!!!

Oh man. I love, love, love this show, but I am really wishing they'd do away with the eliminations and just let them compete for healthy prizes, or even cash. They ALL need to be there, and it really upsets me when players get sent home early. Bob complains about he "game" but they just encourage it with all their twists. UGH!

First impressions...I really like Tara, (I thihk her name is Tara, the green team model) she is funny and has a great attitude. I hope she goes far.

The young boys..oh my, what a long way to go. I hope they have what it takes to continue.

Overall they seemed like a nice bunch. Hopefully none of the will turn out like Miss Piggy.

I like her too. For now. There was a point last night at the end where she made me a little nervous. Not that she will be evil, I just hope she's not too much and sets herself up to be booted.

Tis the season.

So far it looks like most people are there for the life change than there for the money/game. We'll see how it goes for the next couple of weeks.

I'll just ditto True.
I do have to say that I am not thrilled with the twist. It's turning into a game show instead of an inspirational show. We'll see how this plays out.

I was really happy about the one losing 30 lbs. I'm sure it was alot of water but to see that kind of weight loss has got to be motivational for him.

I wonder how sore these people are by the third or fourth day!

Some of the numbers posted last night blew me away! 30 lbs in one week? And didn't the brown team's father lose even more? My son asked why his body looked so weird, and I think it must be because he's had the gastric bypass surgery. A good reminder that weight loss surgery is not guaranteed to work, or that the results will be permanent.

DD kept commenting on his body too. She asked if his belly was tucked into his pants or something. I think it did have to do with the bypass surgery.

That Tara is a firecracker - funny and very motivated/competitive! I had to laugh when Jillian said of her teammate, "here come the theatrics."

So far, I like everyone. They certainly seemed very supportive as a whole group, and I hope that continues. No more mean-spiritedness please!

The point is moot now, but I wonder if his weight from the hospital was true weight. I wonder if it was affected by an IV.

I thought the same thing Boo.
Also, it looked like Jillian was happy to have Jerry & wife above the line - and not so happy when the model team jumped above them. I thought she'd prefer to have Laura go home than either of the white team - but then it didn't matter in the end anyway.

Rob said the same thing, and I agreed. So I was kind of glad that they didn't stay in the lead. While I like them I wouldn't want that tainting the results.

I like the twist for 2 reasons:

1. Slows down the game playing- they are going to have to focus on weight loss to get their partners back and,

2. The people getting sent home are going to be dieting and working out. Hopefully, they will be able to lose significant amounts of weight. It's doubtful that they will be able to put up the kind of numbers that the ones on campus are able to do, but showing them having success at home could be more inspirational to people who don't have Bob or Jillian to hound them 24/7.

Next season they should have 3 teams again. Bob, Jillian, and "at home" with those losing more at home getting to take the place of those not doing well on campus.

I agree with your first point, and quite like the idea of three teams, my concern would be medical control for the at home team.

However... If people are game playing, or just unmotivated, then why lose weight at home? If you don't lose weight it means that your team will find it easier to post higher percentages when you return.

I very much did not like the twist. I think it came too soon in the game. It would have been a better one later on in the season, I think. Or else have the eliminated players become a secret team that comes back later. (like Jillian's black team did a few seasons ago)

Overall, I am looking forward to this season and I do hope everyone has great success. They all have so much to lose and I really want them to be healthy.

Although this is my first post... I have been a faithful lurker for 3 seasons now. I finally decided to jump aboard and post.

My favorites so far are Tara (green) and Daniel (orange). I like Tara's determination. Daniel reminds me of my DH. DH is taller than Daniel (6'4'') but weighs 30 lbs. more than his starting weight. I hope that DH will see Daniel's success and be inspired.

Welcome aboard. I hope that you will post more in the future.

I believe a lot of people, myself included, watch this show to find inspiration and motivation. If your hubby needs to get inspired, I can't think of a better TV show to start with.

As long as there's nobody Vicky-ing things up.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

I knew you'd get around to posting sooner or later! Now, don't be scared; I told you these guys & gals don't bite (much anyway).

Thanks ya'll ^looks up^ for the nice welcome to nap time.
This is the first IRL person I know who has joined RTVW. She'll mostly hang out here in TBL land, but that's ok.

hummmmmm...... I'm thinking maybe a siggy with "Sleepy" (one of Snow White's dwarfs) might be appropriate.

Welcome Nap Time. I'm glad you finally de-lurked.
