Agree, Ryan was a total a$$. I would have loved to wipe that smirk off his face.I was also surprised that they were all shocked at the little amount of weight loss this week. I would have thought for sure that someone would have advised them. At this point, I'd be getting rid of Maurice. I think that's his name. He's the one that keeps eating the fat stuff during their meals. *ghoulishly brought to you by Phoenix Mons*

LAST EDITED ON 10-27-04 AT 00:59 AM (EST)Ryan was a jerk tonight. I think Dave should have gone home. He's so lazy! Ryan went to college in my hometown. I didn't know him, but tonight they interviewed his sister on the news tonight. I guess the fat genes run in the family. She said it, I didn't. She used to weigh over 300lbs. (They showed a pic of her!) She said she had gastric bypass surgery and lost 150lbs or so. She still looked heavy. Anyway, she was really excited for Ryan. Just thought i'd share the local info. Vols and MTW, I'm back! I missed your hilarious commentaries and summaries. You guys rock! ETA to add some info I forgot!

I still haven't made up my mind about this show. I think it's trying to rise above being a typical reality show and not humiliate the participants too much, but it's a fine line to walk. I really don't like that it's putting all of the focus on how much weight is lost, rather than the process. Rapid weight loss is not good for your body and the faster you lose it, the better chance that it will come back when you're done "dieting". These people are (or should be) making a lifestyle change, which takes time. Somebody else mentioned that there is a mental aspect to overeating which is not being focused on and I agree. Also, the participants are used to being laughed at and rejected because of their weight and now it's just more of the same, but it hurts worse because it's coming from people that should be sympathetic to them. And as a previously overweight person, I really feel for what they're going through. I guess I wish it could just be a positive show where these people are choosing to change their lives with no negative consequences. But, I guess, where is the fun (and ratings) in that?

I think that many of us are sympathetic to what these participants are going through, and are rooting for them to lose weight. "Also, the participants are used to being laughed at and rejected because of their weight and now it's just more of the same, but it hurts worse because it's coming from people that should be sympathetic to them." I don't understand what you mean. Are you talking about the ones who have been eliminated? So far,it's the ones who are the LEAST overweight! And it's not because anyone's unsympathetic, it's because the rules require someone to go. I think one nice change would be to add a "loser lodge" like they do with Survivor and Big Brother, where the eliminated contestants could still undergo the diet and training regimen they started during the show. So far though, it seems like the eliminated contestants learned a lot about proper weight loss techniques and have taken their lessons home and continued to lose weight. It's interesting and encouraging to see what they've done since being eliminated. Yes, there's drama and conflict - you can't have a story without it - but overall, I think they've been very respectful and sesitive with the players. Even their choice of players indicates this was there goal. They could have choosen a bunch of unsympathetic nutjobs who happened to be overweight, and we would have hated them. (Did you watch The Complex?) Instead, they chose relatively normal people that we could relate to and root for. Reminds me of the old comeback line: "I may be fat, but you're ugly, and at least I can lose the weight!
