that guy sucks so much. he's in the same category as jonathan on TAR.i don't like ignorance. but it can be corrected. what i hate more than anything is when people are given the opportunity to learn something and correct it, they don't seize that chance. i hate this guy. the point of going on this show was to follow her rules. and he is axing rules left and right. i wish ABC would've intervened. annoying.

"let's go, wendy!" and she's all "i'm coming, dear!" ain't nuthin' gonna change in that house. as for punk rock, if the kids think it's good to have a tutor sometimes, they should have one.

After watching tonight's episode of Wife Swap I just had to find its message board and register. It's easy enough to feel sorry for Brittany, but she did get a lot of much needed hugs and attention through the ordeal. The one I'm scared for is her brother. I got such a strong feeling that kid is going to end up doing things that involve guns, torture, knives, animals, people. Who is there to help him? You got it.....that twisted anal retentive he calls "dad." I'll be awake all night worrying about how to help that kid. Short of sending him to live with the Texas family, I really don't know what else can be done. Any ideas? And I agree with an earlier poster who said that if the family doesn't abide by the rules of the show, ABC should step in and do something. I'm sure these families sign contracts before filming begins? Maybe they could be sued for breach of contract?

Why did they even have kids in the first place?! Bill totally sucks. He is one of the most unreasonable people I've ever seen. He wanted to call the cops because punk mom took his daughter to get a temporary tattoo? That was completely ridiculous. He was really pi$$ing me off how he was refusing all of the rule changes. The whole point of the show is to live by someone else's rules for a week, and they live by your rules for a week. I don't understand why idiots agree to do this show and then complain and refuse to cooperate. It just makes them look like a complete @ss on national television. How childish was that when Bill stormed out of the meeting at the end? Punk dad didn't even say anything bad. Just that Bill was being unreasonable, which was true! That segment at the end when Bill was cooking and doing dishes was obviously staged. He didn't change his attitude at all.

Must add something to my previous post......forcing Brittany to copy Bible verses as "punishment" is one way to guarantee that the kid not only hates you and can't wait to run away, but that she will also resent everything spiritual and wise that might give her the strength she desperately needs to rise above her current situation until she's 18. God's word gets enough abuse without being used as teenage "punishment." This type of negativity and closed-minds in the name of Christianity is almost..dare I say it..Evil. I don't care how many Bibles the mom leaves on everybody's bed, it's like the hollow ringing of a bell if she can't live some love.

Well I have crossed over to the dark side..I couldn't believe I would like Bible Thumping Mom but when she had her epiphany early on.. I went Hallelujah!!! She was willing to listen and be open minded... unlike her Nazi Husband who at one I point I thought was going to have an aneurysm if that vein in his neck got any bigger. I didn't know what was bigger it.. or the stick shoved up his a222. But as txmomma said.. where is it in the Bible exactly where it states "the woman does al the house work and the man the manly work?" Please cite the book and verse...thanks in advance. Poor Britney...talk about misunderstood. They had made the decision that as she was a teenager she was immediately the devils spawn. Talk about lack of confidence in your own child raising. As for the son well I feel sorry for any woman who ends up with that redneck in training. As for Heavy Metal Mom.. a geniunely caring mother. That said she also needs to face the truth and be a grown up. She fears her children leaving as she fears getting old. She is not doing them any favors by leaving their education neglected - at that rate they won't have any skills or abilities to leave home anyway. And if she is really worried I could put her in touch with Cult Dad in Santa Cruz he could teach her the technique of removing their shoes ensuring the fact they won't ever run away. And for the love of God woman a clean house is not representative of being a Martha Stewart clone. I am not sure about BTD and his sudden behavior change. Although he hardly was one to fear the cameras when it came like acting like the assnozzle he is I still think its suspect. But I have no doubt that BTM was a better mother to Brittney. The kid's face said volumes.

I am a Baptist Christian.
I am from the South.
I am a human.Please, please, please... do not judge any of these categories that I fall into by what you saw on your TV last night. WE ARE NOT ALL LIKE THAT. Needless to say, I was embarassed to be any of these three things when I saw Bill behaving as he did. But at the same time, I am proud to be those things because I know that there are plenty of respectable, open-minded people like me. I'm just sorry that the worst of us are what is considered good televsion and that is all the world really gets to see. As if his true colors didn't come out during the show, he summed up his character as a "man" at the very end when he threw in the towell during his conversation with the Texas couple. This is a man who cannot take criticism without saying "I'm outa here" and in my book, that makes him a coward. It is no wonder this guy is such a nazi of a husband and a father. He has no confidence that he can raise a well-disciplined, well-structured family. Therefore, he becomes the drill-sargent, flexing his muscles in front of his scared little family, in order to establish some resemblance of control. What he doesn't realize is that someday soon, he is going to loose COMPLETE control over his family, and then it will be too late to salvage anything from the wreckage.

As an environmentalist, meditating hippie-type, I feel your pain. My "kind" has also not been well represented in these shows. I work, wear shoes and don't preach my way as THE way. It's my way and it works for me. But, you're right, those of us who aren't the freakish ends of a spectrum don't make for good tv. I certainly would never judge an entire group by the actions of one of these so-called "representatives," because all they represent is that freaks come in all shapes and sizes.

Count me in as someone infuriated enough to join this forum in an effort to blow off steam! I was raised by a man almost exactly like Bill. Leave out the religious part, and you have my father. He ruled his family through fear. I was Bill's daughter, and I can tell you from experience, she will turn against everything they are pounding into her head once she's on her own. I have seen many girls like her - raised under an iron thumb - who went hog wild the moment they were in college or out of Mommy and Daddy's house. I truly ache for this girl, because she is a victim. I'll tell you what really struck me about Bill, and I know getting anyone in that household to admit it would be a miracle, but I'll bet you money Bill is physically abusive. Oh, he's not your average trailer-park-have-the-cops-called-out-every-Saturday-night kinda guy; he's a little higher on the food chain than that. But I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he hasn't hit his wife and daughter, and they are too afraid to tell. I will give his wife this - she was willing to admit she could open her eyes and learn new things. His son? Just another redneck "I rule my house" kinda guy. I pity his future wife, if he's lucky enough to find one. I must go. I'm still so infuriated with Bill I could scream, and I don't think my coworkers would understand.

I usually watch this show with my daughter (age 17), and we laugh hysterically through it. This time, we both looked at each other, and we were like -- this isn't even funny, it's so sad. I could not believe that guy. And why was he even allowed to be on the show if he wasn't going to follow the rules -- or even try. And he was going to call the cops on her?

Everyone knows what happens when oil and water mix, but that didn't stop Bill and Wendy Ray, of Aiken, from taking their chances. The Southern Baptist couple and their two children agreed to switch moms with a punk-rock family from Dallas for ABC's reality TV show Wife Swap. "We thought it'd be fun to see how other people live," Mr. Ray said with a resigned laugh. "We should have been wiser for what we were getting into." Mrs. Ray, who applied to the show in the hopes of earning prize money and a taste of TV stardom, agreed. "It wasn't as fun as I thought it might be," she said, noting that there was no prize money. "Sure it was our 15 minutes of fame, but basically they gave us seven minutes too many." As part of the show, Mrs. Ray and Cristina Aguirre, a mother of three who allows her children to home-school themselves, spent two weeks running each other's households and taking on the other's duties. The episode, taped in September, airs at 10 tonight on WJBF-TV (Channel 6). Before arriving in Texas, Mrs. Ray said, she had second thoughts but knew she had a contract to fulfill. "They (the Texas family) were very intelligent, very friendly. They just looked very strange and had weird hairdos and piercings. I thought they were devil worshipers," she said. "I'm sure that they thought I was just as odd as I thought they were, and that's what the TV people wanted." Clashes occurred over lifestyles, curfews, chores, home-schooling and a temporary tattoo that Mrs. Aguirre wanted Mrs. Ray's 15-year-old daughter, Brittany, to get. "You'll see that on TV," Mr. Ray said of his defiant refusal to go along with the plan. "My son (12-year-old Dustin) called me at work and said they were taking her to Augusta to get a tattoo, and that's where the controversy comes in," he said. Mrs. Ray said things didn't go much better for her in Dallas. "It was awful for me," she said. "I was just so lonely. I missed my family so bad. I would just cry my eyes out." And the worst part: "Being in somebody else's house and asking them to change. I thought I could do it before I left. I felt bad imposing my rules on them," she said. "Being from the South, I was raised to be courteous and tolerant and gracious. I wasn't raised to go into somebody's house and say you've got to do it my way. If it was their thing, it was their thing." Still, as viewers will see, acceptance didn't keep the families from reuniting without conflict. "I hate that two families that probably could have been friends aren't, and not because of who we are as people but the way the television thing works," Mrs. Ray said. Because of that, the Ray family has a warning for viewers: "What goes into making a reality show isn't necessarily reality," Mrs. Ray said. There is a passing concern among the Rays about what people will think after seeing the episode. "The people who know us know we aren't confrontational people," Mr. Ray said. "But it doesn't matter what we look like, we're adults and we can take it, it's the kids that we're concerned for." Brittany and Dustin said they're not too worried about what will be said about them. They're just happy their mom is back home. Mrs. Ray said she's happy, too. What a weasel. No matter how much damage control he thinks he's pulling off I saw what I saw. Also, I often wonder what happens to these people after the shows air. You gotta think Mr. Weasel and Little Weasel are giving the girls a rough time of it right now. I hope the Devil Vegan Woman is still eating alligator... err I mean crow around her hometown this week, too.

Well I am getting tired of the "excuse" making explanation gratification that these families seem to be obligated to make.While I respect their feeling the need to clarify their reasoning and justify their families... to that I say "you reap what you sow" Endlessly we have heard from every reality contestant at one point or another all of them indignant and upset has to how they were portrayed and blame the editing. We have heard this since the first Real World. If you have concerns about your warts and all showing.. DON'T GO ON TV! I doubt anyone of us would survive the fisheye lens and endless camera probing/producer egging/24/7 examination and exploitation of our lives. Wife Swap and Trading Spouses are both interesting shows. And the fact is that we do learn about ourselves and others through this type of experiment. Sure people are going to make fun of you and that's what we are here for. But none of us are perfect and no one of any intelligence or awareness is going to generalize that all Punk Rockers are "devil worshippers" or all people from Oklahoma are NUTS (this however is starting to become worrisome because at this point Oklahoma seems ground zero for reality tv's worst offenders). But we do see how people are living for better or worse. We are a celebrity obsessed media worshipping culture. If you sign a waiver you do just that "waive" your rights. But if BTD was not a control freak asswipe I would be hardpressed to find anything else to the contrary. He just didn't demonstate any type of tolerance or understanding. His outburst at the final meet was all we needed to see about how he handles conflict - in other words - not at all!

The true character of a person is not in how they ACT, but how they REACT.He tells the press he is known to be "nonconfrontational." We all have our "act" ...the way we want others to see us. And we all have our "reactions"....the truth. If he was not already a misogynistic hot-headed control freak who is terrified of women, then pointing a camera at him would not have revealed that. Actually, I would have to agree that he was nonconfrontational. Confronting punk rock guy would have meant that he would have had to open his mouth, instead he chose to be nonconfrontational and just leave. He also is a control freak who should not have been allowed to be on the show because there was no way that he was going to have the rules changed in his house -- he even said that. It was his house, and he made the rules. When punk rocker confronted him, he left. It was a very sad episode.
