the dads are switching this time.first week, the dads have to fit in and follow the household rules. second week, they get to make all the rules. dad 1 is a harley-riding gas guzzling fat slob with no consideration for his neighbors. the kids watch TV forever a day. dad 2 is a hippie tree-hugger recycler. they live in a commune? the kids aren't allowed to watch TV. ~ cq this is gonna be weird

So far I like both of them. Unique, interesting. I love the idea of a communal lifestyle. I'd love to find out where you can do that. Its so sixties. Very cool.

The guy you referred to makes a living by selling music. He's not asking for a handout. And no evidence that Commune Family is sponging off anyone either. There are a lot of misconceptions about communal living.

The Biker dad's "WOMAN" was a total burn out! She could hardly stay focused during the show, and she always looked like she was on her way to work at the Meth Lab. Those poor girls they need a real mom.

... she tries to make the kids be polite, but they ignore her, and she won't say anything to them for fear of breaking their spirits. then she cooks up some garbage, makes the kids sing a song thanking the universe for the food, and goes to take a nap. i don't know. i'm missing something, i think. but i like this format a LOT more. they should do this every single time. i don't think the biker style is good, either. but i don't know... the hippies seem a bit extreme for me. ~ cq

What was a great episode. That was the best ending yet. No fighting, everyone learned something, etc. Biker dad got the hippies to loosen up and let their kids do more things normal kids do. Hippie dad got the snotty teenager to appreciate Kenny more. That was the first episode in which I didn't hate either of the couples. The biker daughters were little beeyotches. They did come around in the end though. It was funny how hippie dad was all calm and then suddenly he explodes "I'm feeling PISSED OFF!!!" At first I thought the biker dad was going to be a jerk, but he turned out to be a really nice guy. It was so adorably sweet watching him with the two little girls. I was LOL when he was reading hippie dad's manual.. "we dance, we play bongos, we sing, we laugh" and he paused and looked up with a funny expression on his face. They should do a husband swap more often.

I was just thinking it would have been great if biker dad and military dad from a few weeks ago switched places. It would be interesting to see how robot Paul would annoy the biker daughters with his strict rules, and how Kenny would loosen up the robot children, and get military mom all flustered. LOL

Yeah that would be funny to see. This is probably one of the best episodes i've seen on this show. There were some people this time who i didnt like such as the biker dads daughters and his wife, the biker dads wife and daughters were very rude. The biker dad was really nice and cool. The family who lives in a communion was ok I guess. I feel sorry for the kids cuz there like in this bubble smf they seem to have no lif outside of there little communion cuz their parents wont let them do anyrhing that normal kids do. It was nice ot see though at the end that both of the families made changes for the better i just hope that they keep the changes that were made. As for the Hippie mom when i first saw her i thought that she qA on drugs well if she's not than my mistake. As for the Hippie dad I found him to be really annoying. It was like he thought that only his way was right and everyone elses was wrong. I think that he needs to loosen up a bit and i hope that this show has helped him do that. But over all though this was a great episode and i like that the husbands switched this time it was a nice change and I hope that they do another episode where they have the husbands switch instead of the wives.

Neshama and I were persued for this show told then no three times, but they kept coming back to us with concessions and assurances that we would be treated fairly. Oh well. What was shown on the TV was great entertainment but not the truth. When I walked into their home I quietly mentioned that I noticed a smell and the producer asked me again and again to say how I REALLY felt about the smell until you got to see the much more aggressive version shown on the TV. In my opinion this is about entertainment and ratings, which I suspect will go through the roof on this one, and not about showing the participants as whole people. You would never have known that all four of us adults work full-time not just Kenny as a Harley mechanic and shop owner. I am an environmental developer and work with groups of people all over the country who hire Neshama and myself to help them find land, work cooperatively with each other and deal with conflict in a positive way. By agreeing to be on the show just know you are opening yourself up to being used to create entertainment and not to show your story. Anyway I am glad you like the show because I suspect it will be around for a while. Zev

Well I think most viewers know that its "all about the editing" as we hear it enough. However, when you open your homes and heart for TV expect that whatever you say or do will be magnified 10x more. The more the conflict, the better the ratings. Interesting that you discuss your work. Actually I never figured out or even cared what anyone's employment is on these shows.. ocassionally its mentioned but so briefly unless it figures into the storyline. Such as dad works so many hours that his family is ignored, etc. I thought your children were adorable. And imagine letting someone who looked like Kenny into your home with your kids. That his relationship with them and with your wife was truly one of the most touching things I saw. And most people would assume Kenny would be crank sniffing, fight having, nut case. Talk about how appearances decieve. As for the biker family... one word.. TEENAGERS. That and the fact that they had not really worked on or addressed the problems of what a blended family is. I think biker mom had some problems in her past that would not allow openess of any kind, especially to you. You saw how they had NO friends. Not even the girls... not healthy. But on the other hand trying to live in Utopia and isolate yourself from others who aren't living your way is actually similiar to Kenny - more than you know. I think you have guts to open your home and heart. Not always does this project/experiment work out.

LAST EDITED ON 12-05-04 AT 06:29 PM (EST)I totally agree that isolating oneself and family is not healthy. That is another major misconcepton of our show. The truth is that I was totally surprised when I saw my 6 year old daughter say she had never been anywhere. Just before the filming of the show for the entire month of July our entire family went on our second 3,500 mile car vacation to California including camping, visiting friends, the Santa Cruz boardwalk with rides, Sea World the Beach and the like. Our life in the cohousing community is very sweet but we are also travelers including one trip to Mexico and two to Hawaii with the girls as well as numerous trips to the Zoo, weekly meals out at resturants and the Denver museums. Reality TV can make for interesting entertainment but misses the mark when it comes to “”reality.” Zev the Environmentalist

LAST EDITED ON 12-05-04 AT 07:12 PM (EST)LAST EDITED ON 12-05-04 AT 07:11 PM (EST) >Reality TV can make for interesting >entertainment but misses the >mark when it comes to >“”reality.” > That Zev is the most accurate assessment of the genre. We as viewers (except for those diehard Claymates - just don't even go down that road) know most of it is in fact very much a produced/edited/created product out of hours of footage. What is aired is what the Producers want or think they feel is the best of what THEY think will ultimately garner ratings. I don't know if you have ever seen any reality shows prior to your involvement (I didn't think you had a TV, but again?) you are not telling us anything we don't already know either conciously or not. I have seen/posted with many former contestants on these shows and many of them have expressed similiar frustrations. Its again part of the experience. But I am glad many of them have taken the time, such as yourself, to share your thoughts. It adds to the entire table of discussion. That is why these message boards in fact exist to debate how much of what we are seeing is the "whole story" - that and we have many opinions on everything...

Hi Zev,I thought the Wife Swap show you were on was one of their better ones, and like others here I understand the role that the producers' heavy hand plays in portraying individuals. My opinion: What makes Wife Swap work, and most other good reality shows, is that they take archetypes and let us look at them in new ways--usually by putting people into different & stressful circumstances, then seeing what they do. Survivor puts archetypes into a back-stabbers contest while stripping away all the trappings of "civilization" that can support who they are (or think they are). The Amazing Race takes couples and puts them through a bunch of stressful tasks in foreign countries to see how each couple's relationship handles these challenges. Wife Swap takes people who are committed to or comfortable with their lifestyle and lets them see another lifestyle choice in the most intimate way possible--actually inserting them into another family. I think it is a brilliant concept! It is entertainment to see the culture shock some of the participants have, and their moments of realization. This culture shock also extends to the viewer. To whatever extent a viewer supports one or the other point of view, they too are challenged to reflect on their own choices and standards. (Although some viewers have no idea this is the thought process they are going through, I think they still go through that mental process.) In an hour long show the producers have to leave out a lot, and concentrate on presenting their archetypes--otherwise the show doesn't "work". Does that make sense to you? That said, I salute you for having the strength of character and the convictions to actually put yourself into this experience. However much the producers edited out anything that would make you & your family more multi-dimensional (and less archetypical) I think you came across very clearly as a good man, a good father & husband, and an asset to your community. Thank you for letting us have a glimpse into your life. Swami

Hey Zev, That's really cool that you go places and your life isn't a bubble as depicted in the show. That's also cool that your children get to do things and go places. As for me i Love Santa Cruz, I live only 3 hours away from it and i love going there in the summer or on various breaks that i have from collage. It's also cool to see you and your wife so much in love, on some well on a lot of these shows that isn't really shown and I think that's sad. I also know that you was just trying to help the other family out, and i think that's great. I still think that the biker dad's wife and daughters were rude to you, and i hope that they only acted like that because of the cameras. But over all this episode was the best I've seen and I'm glad that how both of your families were able to take something positive out of this show. I hope that there are more "husband" editions of wife swap, I look forward to seeing them.

Dear Friends, Foes and Fans; This will be my last posting to this forum at the request of ABC-TV. It seems that posting to this list somehow infringes on the contract I signed before agreeing to be on Wife Swap. If any of you would like to contact me one-on-one I would be happy to keep up the conversation but I will not be posting to the entire list. Feel free to continue talking behind my back. Happy Trails. Zev
