As hysterical and dramatic Dawne was, her family seemed the most genuine. The Weiner's lacked warmth as a family and seemed to not be connected with each other. Personally if I had been Dawne, I would have been on the verge of kicking Mr Weiner's arse for being such a judgemental jerk. I'm all for eating healthy and keeping fit but he treated her like she was a lesser being for being overweight as did Dina with the Smith family. I thought seeing those two little boys start enjoying sports was great -- what a self-esteem builder. Granted, Dina was way over the top, but Dawn was a bit too. But she ended up being more real. I would have laughed my *** off if she tried the circle thing with Dina's family. I found Dawn to be a little too weepy, but you're right: she came off much more real and sincere. Dina lives in a home where emotions are labled depression and I'm quite certain it is expected that she supress her natural emotional reactions because her husband disapproves. Those kids may be more physically self-disciplined, but I fear for their future wives. I looked up and, sure enough, she was looking away with tears in her eyes. I have a feeling she wished, deep inside, that her husband who "doesn't do depression very well" (as if all displays of emotion are depression!) would act so lovingly toward her. Poor woman. She probably does a good portion of what she does to please that creep of a husband she has. Heaven knows what he's like if he's not pleased with her work. Like when mama fitness came home, the welcome from the kids was considerably less warm than that of the Smiths when their mama came home. Mr. Fitness was so arrogant and smug I hope he realizes how he came off. At the end when Dana was tearing up it was almost as if she felt she was missing out on something...like the same emotional connection with her husband. All she could mutter at the end was "I love you" I wish they would show more footage from the couples meeting at the table. Speaking as a non-skinny woman I have to say her comment seemed extremely offensive because it showed the natural bias against fat people in this country, but she wasn't alone in making comments about the other woman's size. Dawn made the comment about Dina's clothes covering one boob (I think that is what she said). Dina's comment just seemed so much more judgmental. "RE: watching the 11/03 episode" For some reason I find these wife swapping shows strangely compelling. Anyway. I think both wives were emotionally damaged and each compensated in their own way. California wife did it in the way Californians do. Her comment that there are no fat people in California is kinda true. I lived there for 2 years. I float around a size 16 (boohoo) and I was the fattest person I knew! haha Dawn compensates by eating and watching TV. Both mom's want validation of their coping mechinisms by everyone in the family doing the same thing they are. In Dawn's family it was especially pernicious because there were two young boys who should have been tearing up the neighborhood sports fields with that amazing energy teenage and near teenage boys can have when they are interested in something. It is not natural for them to sit in front of a TV all day. Their dad knew this but didn't want to confront Dawn on her parenting. When the kids got moving, they liked it. Dad liked it too. She lives in Southern California, which to many northerners, is a different state all together.
