"1/23 Wife Swap" |
Ok no one else has started this thread yet and I wasn't going to because I only watched the show between commercial breaks during another show but hey I figured someone has to go first. From what I saw both families could benefit from this experience, maybe one more than the other. I guess I will start with the New York family since their problems were more out there and noticable. From what I saw the New York mom and dad didn't really have a relationship. Not only did they not seem to have interaction with each other and the husband feeling ignored and like he was just there and the wife admitting to being a b!tch at times, but they didn't even have intimacy. I'm not saying they should or need to hook up every night but not even sleeping in the same bed or room? In my opinion that said more than just the lack of romance or sexual desire for each other, but a lack of desire for even being in a relationship together. I also disliked the fact that the mother spent really no time with her children and instead of going home at night after work she would go to the casino, which made her more tired and more likely to sleep most of the day. I also really disliked the fact that the children were constantly in their rooms watching t.v. or playing video games leaving them with no interaction with their parents, each other or anyone. As for the dad not working, I honestly have no issue with the mother choosing to work while the dad is in a stay at home role. My hope for this family is that the parents work out their marital problems and also decrease the amount of time their children spend if front of the t.v. and become more involved in their lives. As for the North Carolina family, the most I saw wrong was the fact that the father did military inspections in the son's rooms and the fact that the mother was constantly checking up on her 19 year old like he was a little boy. I think that this family was a good one, they seemed to care about each other and want what's best for their children. The only thing I was hoping to change was to not be as over protective and to ease up on the room inspections, obviously the boys should keep their rooms clean but who really wants someone to walk around with a white glove? The one thing that I know about the rule changes that I did not care for was when the New York mom included both boys in the do what you want and come as you please rule. No 15 year old should be given that extent of freedom and the even though the oldest son is 19 he is still living at home and the parents do have a right to have a curfew, like maybe to be home by 11 or 12. I also thought it was hypocritical that she would mention the time the family spent together when she wasn't spending any time with her family and did away with sports and substituted it with a mini home casino. Yeah, sports bad but hey gambling is good, ok lady. This is all that I saw. I did not see the rule change that the North Carolina mom made nor did I see the break out fight between both mom's during the meeting. I also don't know how each family was affected and if anyone did much of a change. So, please those of you who watched it I wouldn't mind a summary.

Thanks for your thoughts and opening the thread, nazpink- I thought last nites episode was a pretty interesting juxtaposition between a really tight black family and a really worthless white one.FYI the black NC mom imposed bedtimes on the kids, assigned chores and, most interestingly, told the slob hillbilly husband to start sleeping in his own master bedroom stating "you are a grown man" (he had been kicked out by his wife). The best part is when she took the hillbilly NY husband to an African American history museum in response to his admission to having used the dreaded "n-word". Pretty appropriate, if only the hillbilly could read..... The final blow up in the end whan NC black mom took a swing at NY white mom was pretty inense. Basically, the NC black mom started dressing her down for running a crummy home, and the NY white mom did not take it well, calling her a "fat b!tch" etc. Pretty ugly and a halfhearted resolution in the end- no love here. My only regret is that she did not connect and knock that cracker skanks teeth in. The NC family seemed pretty normal; I think alot of the drill sergeant stuff with the father was staged, I mean, does he really do a white glove test every day? Come on. The kids seemed normal enough. The NY family should be reported to child services for child neglect and abuse- these scum have no business having children. I mean, habitually ignoring your children so you can hit the casino every night? This is not about freedom, it is about laziness and incompetence. The horror.. the horror.....- These people give white trash a bad name.

One thing that I thought I noticed, again I only watched during commercial breaks of another show, was the New York mom going to the mall to meet up with the boys and it looked like she had a baby in a front baby carrier. Was my eyes playing tricks on me or what was that about?

The NC mother would babysit for someone 5 days a week. That's probably the baby you saw.

I don't know why I watch these shows because they get me so annoyed. I can't stand how someone comes into another house and bans something just because they don't like it. In this case, she didn't like sports, so nobody plays sports even though it was shown that the boys enjoyed sports, didn't feel pressured to play them and sports didn't cause any issues in the house. Oh, but gambling was ok. Again she liked gambling, so everyone else would like it too. Did the NY father not work? I liked how his wife's solution to spending more time with her kids was to work less hours. I didn't hear any mention of spending less hours at the casino. Also if he didn't work, how will they handle her working less hours and making less money? Was this show very similar to the last one where the two older kids of the one family had strict schedules and the daughter couldn't bring her boyfriend home and the other family had the nasty 12 year old girl with the website? It seemed the same to me with a racial issue thrown in. One thing these shows do prove if that there is never a shortage of ignorant people in this country. The white woman saying she wasn't a racist, but then saying that black people have to prove themselves to her is a good example of that.
