"I'm impressed with Big Brother 2"
LAST EDITED ON 07-05-01 AT 09:27 PM (EST)

They did an excellent job with the first episode. I must say that this show might become great if they can keep it up. It did everything it was supposed to do: I already like someone, and I already hate someone. The gay guy becoming friends with the homophobic guy is just going to make for some GREAT tv if he ever comes out.

I can't believe I'm saying this after the first Big Brother was so HORRID. I like the guy that won the "Head of household" challenge. I absolutely HATE that girl named Nicole. What a whiny little b*tch. I also do not like the homophobic guy much either. What the hell did he REALLY need that car for? I think America needs to give this show another chance. It could actually be good this time around.

1. "I Agree..."
It absolutely pains me to say it but... I kinda liked it!

They learned from their mistakes and have really tightened things up. The voting procedure is less cryptic and more suited for building interpersonal conflict.

The 'head of household' idea is good, especially since it truely is a 'double-edged sword':

Pro: You have the power of choosing the two potential bootees (thus giving you immunity) and you get the extra priviledges... but...

Con: You also get the resentment that goes with the privileges and only ONE of the people you pick to be booted actually gets voted out... one (probably vengeful and pissed-off) person remains. This should make for some extremely complex group dynamics!

The reward challenge 'with a twist' was good... a group reward for the groceries, followed by a cut-throat individual reward! If they follow this format for the entire season, the reward challenges will be a very compelling part of the show.

As far as the individual personalities are concerned, I feel the same way as after the episode 1 of Survivor II... there is no one who is really likeable... they all have some aspect that is very irksome.

I also love the dramatic irony of the homophobic bigot getting chummy with the gay man. When that little tidbit of info 'comes out', Mr. Bigot will lose it! That's providing the bigot lasts beyond the first vote.

All in all, there's a great deal of potential here... let's hope that they didn't blow 3/4s of the budget on the first episode and everything else goes down hill from here. I'd like to to see a good show to keep the old 'reality-show-jonesing' at bay....

We can only hope...

OK, you two and Kismet. If you all think this show has gotten better, then I'll ask Webby to set up a separate forum for "Big Brother 2" and then move the related threads into it. (In other words, don't wait for the forum to be set up if you have something to say, because we can always move it in.)

3. "The idjits at CBS are charging for feeds."
I posted my comments in OT. Mainly because I forgot about this forum and also because I wanted everyone to know when it was on.

I just went to the CBS site to check out the live feeds. Guess what the idiots at CBS are doing this time? You have to pay for the feeds this year. Yup, you get a free trial until July 8th and then you have to pay. Noone knows how much yet. Do they not realize that their show is dead without those things? I refuse to pay for anything like that. I think it is a huge mistake. The only reason there is a BB2 was the live feeds.

The BBFC has a running live feed transcript that they do. I do not know if they will be able to continue it this year with CBS charging people! It is a very nice site in general. It is a fan site, so you have to look elsewhere for bashing.

Just thought I would give everyone a heads up.

Thanks AyaK there were a couple of people in chat that watched it too. I don't know if a new forum will be used or not, but I will be glad to have one.

I totally agree, Kis....I mean the live feeds actually add some depth to the show. They're good but not ~that~ good....I don't know who in their right mind would pay to watch them, even if the fee is only something like a dollar a month; It's too much hassle for something that's just supposed to be fun.

Kimmi! Get back here!

Okay, I was really skeptical, and had planned to avoid the premeire, but with the good reviews on hte board, I decided to watch it, and guess what...

It actually wasn't half bad... If (and that's a big if) it remains this good, it might actually be worth watching... we'll see what happens.

You never know what might be up my sleeeve...

Yeah! Reali-TV has returned, and its about time! After a lull in programming schedules, we finally have another show to watch, and I have to concur with the others on this thread. This show is a vast improvement from the original.

The people are more interesting, the editing is better, and the producers are giving the watchers what they want to see. How did you like those slow pans up the bodies of the model and the bouncer when they were in their swimsuits? Talk about a forced effort for sex appeal! But it will work...just like Kent's pathetic attempt at forming an alliance will keep the viewers watching, just to see him fail.

The live aspect makes it really rather hard to spoil, but it is interesting all the same. When we can have no vidcaps to go on, we have to go by what the others in the house are thinking, or what their reactions are to others. My vote for the first bootee? Goodbye Kent. Winning the car showed his lack of compassion, and sitting out of the spin the bottle game showed his lack of unity. After that, I think that Nicole and Monica are safe bets for dismissal. Another houseguest pointed out that they weren't playing the game, and were just being themselves, and their in-your-face attitudes could get them quickly ejected.

Mind you, these are just guesses based on the first show...they could easily quieten down, or form alliances to save themselves. But those are the most likely right now, to me.

Peace Out!
Tone.

>My vote for the first

>Winning the car showed his
>lack of compassion

that is the dumbest thing I've read on the boards in a long time! Lack of compassion!?! Why, cause he is competing on a game show and he decided NOT to quit cause some smelly fat ugly b!tch cried about how she never had a car!?!

This is a game show....the contestants are there to WIN, not give it away to whoever you feel the sorriest for.....that was last year's BB, when the sorriest cast member won $500K only because America wanted to see him hobble his one-legged ass around town in a new shoe.

Compassionless......what a joke.....remember, just cause a media whore tells you on TV that someone is something, doesn't mean that you have to suspend all reason and believe her.

My dear clown,

Perhaps you had best watch the show again. If you were to pay close attention to the car reward challenge, you would have noticed that, when down to Kent and Autumn, that those who came outside of the house to witness the challenge migrated towards Autumn. Kent gained no friends from winning that car.

And what I believe is irrelevant concerning what the media whore says on television. What is relevant is what the others in the house believe, because they are the ones responsible for the ejections. Does remaining in that car make him appear compassionless to the others in the house? Sure it does, and you know that Autumn will be playing up the compassion angle.

Kent will be the first to go, and I stand by my decision. You have to play the game to succeed, and Kent is not doing so.

Instead of editing out my previous comments, I think I'll just tack this on. It appears that my guess concerning Kent is incorrect....he is not even up for banishment. Apparently the 2 possibilities for ejection are Nicole and Sherlyn.

I don't think that Kent fits in well with this group, but that could simply be the editing, so I give you that, clown. We are being manipulated by the producers to feel whatever emotions concerning people that they want, and they did not cast Kent in a favorable light. But I still contend that his remaining in the car made him more enemies than friends. Autumn can play on other peoples emotions much better than Kent can.

..>I completely agree with you Mr. Def, but that wasn't what you said in your original post......I agree that to some of the other whores Kent might appear as compassionless for staying in the car, but you original post was phrased in a way that made it appear that YOU thought he was compassionless, not the cast members.

That is the difference....there is no doubt that winning a reward this early in the game might be a bad move in the long run, I won't argue with that.,..especially after that big mouth Nicole started telling everyone to vote out the winner....

But, my point is that a reasonable, intelligent person has no business ragging on Kent as compassionless for trying to win a contest...that is just plain ridirculous.

11. "I hate Kent"
Sure, editing does play a part in what we feel about contestants, but there are certain things that they do to make us not like them. Example: Kent actually SAID all that stuff about gay people being "degenerates". He actually did not participate in the spin the bottle game. The producers had nothing to do with those actions.

Now I'm not gay, but Kent's words are definitely wrong. He is a homophobic bigot. I really hope that Bunky comes out and rubs it in his face. Kent was actually buddying up with him. (He even went so far as to say he's a "nice guy". I hope it burns him to find out that his new friend is gay.

Yeah, I see Kent or Nicole being one of the first out of this show. They obviously have no people skills and an inability to adapt. You know what would really be funny? If that plane came back and flew the words "Bunky is gay!" I'm seriously considering renting a plane!

6. "RE: I'm impressed with Big Brother 2"
Well, I didn't see the first episode, and I have no plans to watch but I probably will tune in one of these days, so I'm relieved to hear they've improved things over the first series (which really could have used a few Pucks). I hope the homophobic guy borrows from Rudy (from Survivor 1), is smart enough to make a gag out of his homophobia, on the other hand if he "loses it" when the gay guy "comes out" that could make for some interesting TV. CBS made a wise move going for an older cast with more life experience to bring to the series, that's been my impression from the comments I've read. So, any ideas on which one is the mole? Anyway, glad for all you BB fans that things are looking up, let's hope the show holds up to its promise.

I liked it too. I was definately pleasantly surprised. (it's no Survivor, but in a pinch, it'll do). All of the people are interesting. I like Will, Hardy and YES I even like Nicole. She's waaaay too much like me. I'm going to keep watching it and I'm going to enjoy it if it kills me!
