"Plus Size" |
I am new to the forum, so I haven't read everything here yet, but I was watching a ANTM marathon and decided to post here about something that was said. On the cycle I was watching, they had a plus sized model who was losing weight while doing the show. A few comments were made about plus sized models like..."You have to BE the size to be a plus sized model." "We don't know where your fire has gone." "You seem to be losing weight."These things are all true, but you can't honestly put a plus sized person in a live in situation with size 0-3 people and expect their confidence in themselves not to be shaken. They will constantly be put into situations that make them feel too large. They will see the other girls obsessing about their diets and exercise. The other girls would be determined to stay they size they are...which in turn will make the plus sized model see that they are trying "not to become what she is" This would shake any persons confidence. If ANTM REALLY wants to allow for a plus sized model to join the competition, they need to seperate the two entities. Have a only plus sized competition. One of the panel judges said something to the nature of "I am beginning to wonder if we will ever have a plus sized model in this competition." (when talking about the girl who was losing wieght.) No you won't...if you keep them in the same house with people trying not to be what they are. Think about it Tyra. <3 I love your show. ~Mel from Houma

Hey -- Welcome to the boards! You have very interesting suggestions. I am not sure how the ratings would be for a show with just plus sized girls (not being sizeist, just realistic). As a society, we tend to hold up what most of us can't achieve. I think as the European backlash against superskinny models spread, we are going to find more models on ANTM more realistic sized -- maybe size 4 -6, rather than 0-2 (OK - I know that the average size in the US is a 14, but having models a size 4 would be in the right direction) And I agree with you it would be very hard to be couped up in a house when you are the only plus-sized girl. Maybe that is why the plus sized model from this season is accused of being fake -- she is trying to overcompensate with personality for her size.
