It's the simple starches, white flour, potatoes and rice; and sugar, that are so easily, and quickly, stored as fat. In a places as health conscious as LA, all kinds of whole grains are easily found. Jodi could've cooked herself some brown rice. Boiled herself some shrimp. And eaten the brussells sprouts, an unbuttered corn on the cob, and a small piece of steak.

But she didn't broil the shrimp - they were deep-fried and they were coconut shrimp - even more fattening. I do think WW would be a better diet for Jodi - they teach you to eat the right portion sizes and you really don't have to give up anything - I lost over 50 lbs. and the only thing I gave up was my diet cherry coke (because of the retention factor) other than that I ate everything - even chocolate cake and ice-cream - I just ate the right amt. and ate 3 squares and a couple snacks to keep the metabolism going... I don't think they have Jodi on any specific 'program' just seeing a nutritionist and going to curves - they should encourage WW but then again it's Jenny Craig who is their sponsor so of course they will forego a really beneficial program to push a lifetime of eating Jenny's 'cuisine' even if it puts the person in the poor house.

Did you see how she was handling that grill today...  just like a man? Scary. Didn't notice her shovelling the carbs. The diet Iguana wanted her to commit to was the South Beach diet which I guess isn't carb saturated. If she's not ready, willing, and able to diet right now that's ok; but, she was the one who told Iguana and the SO cameras that she was ready to release the weight because she didn't need it anymore. Guess she spoke too soon. She wants to make her "failure" everyone else's problem when the ball is really in her court. She can't play until she's ready....and apparently she's not...but nobody forced her...she made the proclamation...but she wants to blame others for her failure. It's not about the scale or the the resistance it's bout Jodi projecting her failure onto others.

The SBD allows good carbs that are whole grain and high in fiber, and good fat that is monounsdaturated and high in Omega 3. In moderation, of course.

Granted, LC Rhonda did not need to bring that much Omaha Steak stuff into the house if she really is in tune with Jodi's weight loss efforts. But Jodi is a big girl--is she ever! That was WAY TOO MUCH food for six people. Where is the self control; why not put some of the boxes away in the freezer for another day? Christie, Lisa2, and Jodi could all stand to lose a few lbs, and the other thinner women wouldn't be deprived if they joined in to eat a little less and help poor Jodi feel less deprived. This welcoming meal was a joke. What a misguided effort on the part of the SO staff. I can hardly wait to hear Jodi make excuses if and when she is called on to explain her lapse.

I have done the South Beach diet, lost 40 pounds, pretty much kept it off with a back and forth of 5-8 pounds.The thing with the South beach diet is that for the first two weeks you can't have any carbs, its protein and veggies mainly, with skim cheeses. Only certain cuts of meat, only certain veggies. It's a very hard two weeks, and quite honestly, not the thing to start when dealing with emotional issues. The food is wonderful, but the prep tme is enormous and the grocery bill is large. The next phase is limited carbs.....you might get a piece of bread at breakfast with some skim cheese, or a small bowl of cereal. If you have fruit for breakfast, then you get couscous of a piece of bread at lunch. You stay on this one until you reach your goal weight. Then, it's strictly whole grain carbs. The minute you start eating anything else the weight comes right back.
I also know just as many people who have GAINED weight on it as lost.
Point being, I think it was an unrealistic idea from Iyanla, when she could have done the weight watchers diet much more easily and probably effectively.
Jodi doesn't actually want to lose weight, though. It was clear from her discussion with the nutritionist tht she just wants a quick fix.

When I saw Okaha steaks I thought what a shameless plug from the sponsors. I thought Ms Kelly was opening her waffle emporium, why isnt she fighting with Jodi over the grill? Shes been awfuly quiet... I didnt see jodi eating, must have missed that. I agree, she could have made better choices. I eat out with my kids at Mcdonalds etc and I am thin, I eat salad, choose good food. Jodi doesnt want to be thin. If she did she would be.

I agree that all that Omaha Steaks was not needed. Jodi should have had a salad, a green veg, and 3-4 oz of beef.

yup! how does she think she can do this without ANY planning. If not specific meals then at least a sensibly shopping list. how dare her be in the house for help with her weight and think she doesn't have to communicate with the nutritionist OR iyanla about what she eats? i was cracking up when she told iyanla that she just have trust me and wait and see what happens next week. lol! jodi doesn't get that she has lost NO weight since being in the house.

I agree that Zone or Jenny Craig may be a good initial ease into a "diet." However, once you stop eating those foods and since you do not have to figure out anything on your own, you will have a setback. The best way is through a Nutritionist who will show you how to change your way of eating; to make a lifestyle change. If Jodi is there to change her life, then she should be ready to change her eating way of life.If you can afford a nutritionist, and SO is paying for it, than she should take full advantage of it. As I stated earlier, I lost over 40 pounds (I am 5'2") seeing a nutritionist which is not covered under ins.-this was not a vanity thing; but a health thing. With South Beach, for the first 2 weeks anyway, you need to cut out all carbs-good and bad. Then you slowly reintroduce it back in. However, being in SO, it is carb city. You need to decide that you no longer want to be the way you are and make a commitment. Jodi cannot commit. Yes it is hard, but follow through with it and the outcome is wonderful-health wise.

However, Rhonda plopping down a stack of boxes from "Omaha Steak" (shameless sponsor plug) in front of overweight women with no discipline and impulse control? (Jodi, in particular) This "great idea" :snort: sure did welcome Bethany "into the house" eh? I saw this maneuver as the SAME as plopping down a couple of bottles of wine (pick any sponsor-driven brand example) in front of Christie and inviting the women to a "wine party to celebrate Bethany's arrival." The portions are more the point than the "what." However, I did not see Jodi dividing her plate in half to make two meals! (She could have)

Good points about the hamburger place. Jodi could have asked about going to another place, stayed home, ordered the burger w/o the fattening sauce and roll, or asked them to put some lettuce and tomato on a plate. There had to be other items on the menu besides hamburgers. Lots of options...but none of them end with Jodi scarfing down a sauce-laden, fat burger, lol.BTW, Jill and the chocolate fondue was mentioned. I dislike Jill, and generally, I have very little respect for her. But, her behavior in the face of that fondue temptation was a shining moment. What those women did (I especially remember Lisa1 being a total jerk about it), was mean-spirited, selfish and cruel. One of them even asked Jill to put the thing together. As far as Jodi is concerned, she came into the house not believing she had a serious weight issue. She is highly irritated by the constant reminders that she is obese. *******************************************

You made some valid points esp. about her "pigging out." I particularly like the other points made by posters on another thread about forcing Jodi to face her distorted body image and poor eating habits by pasting all the empty junk food wrappers and bags to her chubbiness, take her out to Wilshire Blvd., make a bright poster decorated with balloons and magic markers, and force Jodi to stand there in public. Now THERE is a visual that would be meaningful, since SO is so fond of nursery school "art" projects!!

Jodie weighs 210 lbs. I looked at the placement of the scale weights when "poor Mary" weighed her.That is why she was in such a pissy mood.
I honestly thought she weighed less than that. She has no trouble shoveling that food down. One good thing, after watching her, she made me eat salad last night. I have lost 15 lbs. since the Toad joined the house.

It worked well, I lost the weight, and continue to maintain to this day. You can't go on a "diet" you have to change the way you eat, forever. It's true when you go on any low carb way of eating you do stop craving the sugar, and starches, and pretty quickly actually. "Be not afraid of changing slowly; be afraid only of standing still."

IMO Jodi's problem is not with what others plop down in front of her or what the other HG's eat at all. She eats when no one is around and she eats junk food. Her true self also emerges when she gets snippy when it is suggested that she start eating better and changing her ways or she will not lose weight. She looks at the "experts" with such disdain and scorn in her eyes that it is sad. She is in the state she is in because of choices she made. She was fat when she arrived and will be just as fat if not fatter when she finally leaves. She also shows she has no intention dealing with her weight problem when she clearly says she refuses to buy a larger size in any of her clothes even if she can't breathe when she has them on. She isn't fooling anyone but herself.

Another day, another BIG FAT LIE!!!So, we saw and heard Jodi have a good time drinking with the HGs. Then we see her giggling with the HGs the next morning saying it was so much fun. If that's not enough, Jodi says in confessional, "We were hootin' and hollarin' last night, you know having a good time." Then girlfriend Christie has a tizzy fit and Jodi snuggles and spooning, doing that weird caressing of Christie's arm...ugh...with Christie on the couch and low behold Jodi says, "I was, um, laughing at Kim last night but there came a point in the evening when I knew the line had been crossed." WTF? How does she lie so much? That a special talent!

When I am on a diet I still have to cook food my family wants, even if I shouldn't have it. They aren't on the diet, I am. Why should I make them suffer when they don't have a weight issue? If she can't loose a few pounds in the SO house, she ain't never gonna do it outside!
My goodness, she has a tredmill at her disposal. If she was using it everyday for an hour, she sould be loosing even with a modified diet. Good grief. If I were Kelly, I would have just cooked happily, making mmm mmm good noises while cooking my bacon. Then I would have went on to talk outloud about what I was going to eat for lunch and invited the girls to go to "in and out burger".

It's me again. And another thing.....Jodi asked for some feedback from Bethany regarding what happen outside. Bethany said, "I could tell you wer angry, but I didn't think you were angry at us..........."
Then Jodi said, "I don't think I was angry as much as I just wanted to eat it all." First of all Jodi, if you're not prepared for the answer, don't ask the question. Second of all, regardless of what you're saying, Bethany thought you were angry, so Kelly obviously picked up on it and felt uncomfortable. That's why she packed it up. For her to throw out a vibe, yet say no it's ok is being passive aggressive.

Good point, Madre. I noticed the same thing.If Jodi is so sure that the sight of Kelly and Bethany eating snack food on SO property didn't anger her, then why did she feel the need to rearrange and restate an opinion to the contrary? That is precisely what Jodi did to Bethany. IMO, she wanted to make sure that she could later say, "Bethany said that I wasn't really angry, and SHE was there". Bethany's original answer was, "I could tell you were angry...", but that was immediately neutralized by Jodi's reinterpretation of Bethany's opinion ("I don't think I was angry..."). Did Jodi ever consider that maybe Bethany had something on her mind that had nothing to do with Jodi's Pavlov's dog response to certain smells and sights? Bethany heard their argument; if she wanted to give an eyewitness account, she would have. The truth is that Bethany could tell that Jodi was angry, so Kelly was right when she said that Jodi had an attitude about the snacks. I am with StandingInMyTruth as far as Kelly is concerned. There isn't much I like about her approach to people or life, but on this one, I can understand her frustration. These women are actually not cooking until after Jodi cooks first because of the smell? I think that's pretty accomodating. Too bad SO set a precedent last week when they validated the concept that the temptation of one outweighed the liberty of five. It was abundantly clear that Christie's grievance was the impetus for a change in house policy. Why not make another policy change for another HG? Is Jodi any less important than Christie? Are her temptations any less powerful than Christie's? They sent a message last week, and Jodi saw how Christie got what she wanted. Oh, Jodi; she's supposedly so strong and so in control, yet the smell of bacon or the sight of a potato drives her to her knees. And yet she still walks around with so much pride, finding women in distress who need the shoulder, ear, and counsel of an unofficial life coach. These women never cease to amaze me with their self-centered view of life. I don't know if what they really need to be hearing is the mantra of SO: "You are #1 (and #2, and #3, and #4, and #5)!" I think most of them have got that part down pat. I think I know why Jodi is alone in her personal life. It's lonely at the top  *******************************************

I have lost 50LBS and most of it was common sense. I only eat when I'm hungry, don't eat until full...etc. I don't eat "diet" food but portion control and not eating 10 times a day. Less food. She really got mad at the nutrishion(ms)girl..probably b/c she was calling her out. And food, like alcohol, YOU need to control it not just make it a no option. You must choose.

She is extremely needy and latches on to anyone who looks her way. I get tired of her acting like each HG is the best friend she ever had, acting like they have been inseparably close friends for 30 years or something and then doing her crying act when the HG leaves and saying she expected them to be with her to the end, how she feels abandoned yada yada yada. She acts like everyone is owned by her and cannot ever leave her side or she is crushed and feels betrayed by them moving on and living their own lives. She reminds me of a leach or a slug once you get them on something it's hard to get them off.

When I finally told her that I needed some space...well, what a scene. She photocopied each birthday card or greeting card I had ever sent her over the three years we were friends (yes, every one!), and mailed them to me. She attached a scathing letter of how I had betrayed her, and she enclosed proof of my deception (the greeting cards). Yeah...weird. But you wouldn't know it at first. I had a friend who did pretty much the same thing.When we first met I thought "What a nice open,caring,ATTENTIVE friend."Then she turned the corner and went semi-stalker on me.Calling me everyday.Sometimes several times a day.Showing up at my house unannounced at ALL HOURS of the day and night.And she seemed to have a weird psychic knack for knowing when she was interrupting a private moment. I finally told her I was sorry but I had a life and other people and responsibilities to consider. She freaked out and called me a fake and a jerk.It was SAD and SCARY at the same time.Jodi really does that have that "Single White Female" quality to her.She latches on and then becomes hysterical if the person backs off.She is histrionic to the extreme in almost all her emotions.Except when it involves facing an issue about herself that she doesn't want to confront then she's hostile and agressive.I don't know.The mask is gone but I question whether Jodi has a clue what that means if anything.Funny half of it ended up at the bottom of the pool.To bad for Iyanla that NULisa is gone.She could have sent her on a diving expedition to get it.Maybe had the HG throw some giant balls at her head in the process. Yes,a support group.I'd bet that's a much more common experience than people think.It does make you wonder if there's a small group of these semi-stalkers that circulate and insinuate. Then they move on to the next person.(victim)Mine kept calling incessantly for three months even though she swore I was a jerk.I know this because we installed caller ID and she wasn't savy enough to block her number.The last I heard she was driving a fork lift for a tire company.Good career move.She stopped calling but every six months or so I get a long,rambling,disjointed 10 page letter from her where she pretends we are still fast friends.I ignore them.As long as they aren't threatening or quoting passages from "Catcher In The Rye"I figure I'm okay.I couldn't possibly be close friends with anyone more neurotic than me.The thing that gets me about Jodi is that she kind of reminds me of Lenny from that book "Of Mice And Men."The kind of person who doesn't know their own strength and might hug a bunny till they squash it to death.I think of that every time she goes to hug someone.

Anyhow Jodi is all about attention for herself. I think she does act like she is so distraught when a HG leaves so all eyes focus on her. I can't beleieve she is doing this I want to go home crap now too. If she is that attahced to people then why is she not crying becuasse she misses the people she works with and her friends back home? IMO It's becuase it won't get her as much attention as leaching on to the HG and then acting hurt becuase everyone in the house knows those women so it is easier for them to "sympathize" with her.

Thanks! www.bestsmileys.com is my favorite source because it's Mac compatible. When I'm on my laptop I like smileycentral.com. They do help convey tone sometimes as that can be hard to do in writing. And who knew Jodi could be fun!!?? Actually, I like Jodi and think she is making progress but the whole weighing thing is a little silly. She's just trying to control a situation that is out of her control. Gotta GO! SO is on!

My son came in the room today and said "that woman looks like Sammy Hagar" then when they were showing previews for tomorrow he looked at me and said he changed his mind that "the big ol' lesbian really looks like Rodney Dangerfield." I thought it was really funny, he doesn't usually get home from school in time to see the show and had never seen her before. I know this might be inappropriate but it still struck me as funny.

Jodi has lost some weight while in the SOH. I noticed it during her graduation recap segments. She is still very fat and stil leats like a pig both in amount and how she actually eats it. She sure looked happy when she saw the cake and I don't htink it was just because she was graduating. I also loved how she lied through her teeth in group and said her graduation snuck up on her. For crying out loud just a few days ago she was blubbering about how she was disappointed at BOR that she wasn't graduating and how she had had her graduation all planned out etc. If she had it all planned out how can she say it snuck up on her? Duh Toadie get your lies straight
