"Joe is too cartoon like"
How can it be possible for Matt to not catch on by now, every character is far too "token", come on, Kip is a gay fellow who dresses up like a cowboy, lest he be born on a cattle ranch in cuba, I don't see it being a believable character, Earl is right out of Full Metal Jacket, a short haired white male as an ex military man??? is this not obviously the stereotype, and come on, Molly's chest has a friggin barcode, those things are not homegrown, and Hutch, come on this guy is more Puck than Puck is Puck, everyone is just too who they have to be, and he just is too accepting of an excuse, am I the only one who finds this show too cartoonish for Matt to not know whats going on, I mean I love it, but I'm just saying

Kip doesnt always dress like a cowboy, he dresses like the sterotypical gay guy.. But Earl does act like the typical veteran, well American one anyways..

And I bet Matts defence would be "I'm from Pittsburgh" he seems to like to say that...He is so nice that he is VERY trusting about what people do

*ahem*. The stereotypical gay guy in me loves Kip, but doesn't dress like him.

To use an analogy:

Kip Dress like a gay guy like Molly dresses as a virgin.

I wish they went more all out on Ashleigh's wardrobe. She dresses well, but they should have had her wearing fur coats and all sorts of ridiculous rich girl outfits in the house.

"Kip Dress like a gay guy like Molly dresses as a virgin."

Thank-you! There is no way a virgin would wear the things that Molly wears! The low cut, short black dress looked great on her, but there is no way a virgin would wear that. I guess that is part of the satire. But it drives me nuts.

2. "Your perspective is jaded"
Matt was almost on a role, but he didn't pursue it. He accused the fake TV producer of being an actor, and I wanted to slap him that he didn't pursue that with the actors forcing them into some more bullsh!t. He's gotta learn to trust his instincts.

Put yourself in his place, and they really haven't given much up to give Matt a clue that there are ALL actors.

8. "RE: Your perspective is jaded"
I was LMAO when he said that about the TV exec being an actor and Brian and Hutch both just froze. I was going "Say something, you idiots! You're supposed to be actors!" Good thing he wasn't looking at Hutch at the time, because he looked way more surprised than he should have. Although Brian was not much better.

I also wish Matt would have pushed it more. That would have been great.

3. "Of Course he knows, he's a stereotype too"
The guy is a classic nice guy and fixer. Personally, I think he's an actor too. Why?

1) Matt cleans up after the actors when they make mistakes. For example, Earl's shorts. How could anyone ever forget shorts like that, especially when you packed them? What was the excuse - no contacts or glasses? Heck, who needs contacts or glasses to remember that they brought a pair of shorts with a huge fish on them.

2) Matt's declaration that he thought the Executive was an actor. This was a perfect place for him to mess with Hutch, Brian, and the audience without stating that he knew. C'mon ~ the producers needed something like that to help sell the show. If I was in charge and Matt was an actor then that scene would have been a must. Honestly, if that scene didn't happen I would have probably had second thoughts about Matt being an actor.

3) The Hand's On the Hooker challenge. It was rigged to let Matt win but instead Matt choose to be the first out. As a result we got a better show. The audience got a shock, the actors were shocked, and Gina wouldn't have been able to 'betray' Matt if he had immunity. Remember how Brian went to check up on Matt because Brian thought that Matt saw through Gina's overacting? Instead, Matt said he had figured out that the 9-1 votes meant Gina voted against him - this was something that Brian (an insider) hadn't known. hmmmm....

Honestly, do you think that if Matt had immunity that the eviction ceremony would have had as much ‘drama’? Remember, we are observing Matt's reactions. If Matt had immunity then he wouldn't be 'nervous', he would have just sat back and watched. That wouldn't have been interesting at all.

4) The girls kissing. A real Matt that was sensitive to the girl's feelings would have done something to help make them more comfortable. A real Matt would have made this a team effort and would have gotten the guys to kiss too in order to help ease the tension and make the girls more comfortable. The fake Matt just let the 'tension' build.

Ok, I could go on and on since every show has something. Like Matt's reaction when Earl is evicted and how the actor's freaked.

Of course, everything is edited to include a little bit of everything. So what we see as individuals are our own Rorschach shapes.

Honestly, I'm not as interested in Matt's reaction when he finds out as I am interested in finding out what is really going on.

- Beach

I agree...I believe Matt is the actor here. Were we led in the wrong direction from the beginning? Are the 'actors' being duped by another actor?

10. "Sometimes even family can't see through the con job with actors"
They say actors bring a lot of themselves to a part. After all, they have a few sentences of a script to read, and they have to develop that to make it believable with personality, physical/vocal improv, enthusiasm, natural way of speaking not rigidity, believing in what they do, being able to think on their feet, etc. in order to bring their character to life and make it believable.

So how do you know where the real person ends and the acting begins? They are obviously going to take a huge part of what they bring to the screen home with them, so then how do you know where the actor ends and the real person returns?

12. "RE: Of Course he knows, he's a stereotype too"
1) Matt did NOT clean up after the shorts mistake, it was Dr. PAt and Earl working about how Earl didnt have his contacts in and had not been able to wear his glasses, he said he thought the elves on Matts shorts were fish, Matt chalked up the forgetting that they were his shorts due to nerves. 100,000 dollars is up for grabs, most people would be damn nervous.

2) I think Matt said that he thought the exec was an actor to try and lighten the mood at dinner. Its their last night there, one of them will will the 100,000 dollars.

3) It didn't make a better show for Matt to be first out, I think they had some things planned which they had to change because Matt did not want to share the bed with Earl and Dr. P anymore. Yes it adds some substance to the show to have Gina betray Matt, but we don't know what would have happened if he hadn't taken his hands off the hooker.

And yes, I think it would still have had as much 'drama' Gin a still would have been voted off, and still had a huge hissy fit, only Matt would not have been 'betrayed' by Gina. Plus Matt has had the robe a few times, they can't give it to him all the time can they? He would see something is up if he always got the robe. They wanted him to have his own room more than showing us him being nervous, which is why they made Kip have that little contest to get Matt that large room for his own to keep a closer eye on him.

4) No, a real Matt would not have tried to get the guys to kiss too. Remember, he thinks both Ashliegh and Molly are physically attractive. It was either make them go topless or make them kiss. He was ready to make them go topless, which made Ralph suggest kissing. So, when he went downstairs again, he told them the two options, to take off their tops, or to kiss. There wasn't really any tension either, he didn't let it 'build' he felt bad that the girls had to take the fall for him not eating the dog feces, but kiss or take off their tops were what he was told to get them to do.

Matts reaction to Earls eviction was real. Someone posted a link to an interview with Brian. Earlier in the day Earl and Matt had had a very intimate talk with eachother that they did not show to us as to not totaly humiliate Matt.

4. "RE: Joe is too cartoon like"
On many "real" reality shows, the characters are a bit token too. On MTV's Real World show, seems like there's always a gay cast member, a jerk(aka Asshole), a slut, etc. That's just the way the producers cast those shows.

9. "RE: Joe is too cartoon like"
It's obvious to us, because we already know. But keep in mind, it's not like they lined them all up in front of Matt at the begginning of the show and actually said "OK Matt, here's the Gay Guy, here's the Veteran, Virgin, etc." (I mean literally.) He had to figure it out from the "hints" (obvious as they were).

I mean, if you knew a guy in real life who acted like Kip, would you be suspicious, and question whether he was really gay, simply because he acted too stereotypical? What reason does he have to suspect they are all lying?

You do have an interesting perspective, though. "Cartoon Like" is a great mental image.

He may think he has wandered into some sort of surreal, dream-like world, but as far as being on to them, I say Joe is still in the dark.

I personally think it's better TV that way, anyway.

14. "Hmmmm, Matt an actor."
My wheels are turning. I haven't watched every episode but there have been things I have seen that make me wonder. Like how could Matt not know from all the stupid challenges that this thing wasn't fact. The network executives request was way off the wall especially with some of the events that happened before that. I mean that one challenge with the girls in the tubes and contestants are supposed get her white t-shirt wet. Look at the way Kip tries to get the shirt wet. Even the dumb robe. Or Hutch's excuse to get back on the show. There was just to much idiotic things for the normal "Joe" to not figure it out.

What if the idea of the show was not that Matt was getting doped but the idea of the show was to dope the viewers. At the end of the show they said you will not believe what happens. What if Matt goes pyscho and attacts someone? Leaving us the viewers astonished like Matt has been many times. Then they reveal to us that the joke is on us and not Matt.

Remember, the exec said "we need something that will get raitings" so, its not really off the wall since its 'the first network for men'

Kip cant swim thats why he was jumping in the pool that way, since the actor who plays Kip, Lance, can swim, its difficult to act like you cannot. Plus have you ever tried to jump in a pool that far with waterwings and a life jacket on? it'd hurt!

you put it well, lol, barcode is just about right. its true that it is very obvious, and contrived and at times the phrase 'can anyone be that dim?' runs through my head. and yet i am chronically addicted and maybe for that exact reason along with how much i truly like matt. as i was flipping through the channels that is what caught my attention in the first place when i think of it. how sterotyped and obvious the acting was. at the first i did not know it was all a put on. but i was thinking, this is not for real. so maybe the 'knowing' is not really that much of a factor. i think i watched 15 mins. before they wwent to a commercial and i heard them say it was all fake. the cartoonishness of the whole thing may be what grabed me in the first place, or part of it anyway, how over done it is and yet here is this guy believing every minute of it. so maybe that is part of the attraction of this show. i just know i got really addicted to it. and who knows maybe matt is an actor too...that would put an intelligent twist to it all.

but you probably think he is dim because you see what is going on and you can hear what the other people say, so it gives you clues, but you're on the outside and not in there, everything he probably sums up to nervousness, which is what most people would do in a game show

Right on. Only a paranoid conspiracy theorist would jump to such a conclusion. Most people always justify odd or out of place things by rationalizing them. It's not so outrageous to go on such a show and think that the producers just went out and found some really out-there people to participate.
