"Questions for Greg"
1. Do you watch the show on ESPN? If so, with whom - in a bar with random strangers, at home alone/with family/with friends?
2. Did you watch the first edition of Beg, Borrow & Deal? If so, who were your favorite and least favorite players?
3. While in Huntsville, everyone on Team Exodus seemed excited to watch your sports broadcast - except you. What was the story?
4. If your team attempts a task and fails, can you try the same task again at the same place on a different day? Can you try again somewhere else?

1. "RE: Questions for Greg"
Keep the questions comin', I'm happy to share- -

1. I watch the show with a bunch of friends at the bar I work at in Milwaukee. There's a bunch of randoms in the bar too as happy hour is concluding about the time the show starts...it's kinda funny, it takes about a half-hour before people realize just why in the world the volume for ESPN is cranked.

2. I watched enough of the first season to realize that I dug the show's concept - it wasn't until a snowy day in November that I decided to actualy make an audition tape. As for the season one players, I had a crush on Kelli - really cute girl with a firey attitude. Fun girl to go out and drink with and I'm grateful to her because she let me crash in her hotel room when I went to LA for the ESPY's(thanks Kelli).

Juliet seemed a little like Kerri. More interested in how she looked on TV than the game itself...that bothers me.

Josh/Bubba - pretty solid guys. Good attitiudes, they both contributed significantly and had a good time doing it.

3. Ahh, the sportscast. I am NOT a morning person. Not that I'm bitter, or angry in the morning like some, I just don't display a lot of emotion. It was like 5:30 or something and there's not a whole heck of a lot that's gonna excite me at that God awful time in the morning. Had I attempted to create a sentance it would've come out just brutal because my morning voice makes Barry White's seem like a soprano...don't get me wrong - I was very happy that we completed the task, I just didn't show a lot of enthusiasm because, while my body was awake, my brain said "screw this Greg, I'm goin' back to bed."

4. RULES QUESTION: Yes, if a team fails a task, they can reattempt the same task with the same people, but not until the next day. You'll see this rule illustrated if you keep watching.

MY QUESTION FOR YOU: So you thought my chances of being eliminated were MODERATE. Your reasoning was the whole drivers liscence issue. That's fine, but having your liscence means absolutely nothing when it comes to your ability to play the game and contribute to your team. So I can't drive...legally that is, but how often have we been in a situation that required one of the cast members to get behind the wheel? Not having my liscence does absolutely nothing to lessen my value to the team. Again, don't get me wrong - I am a jackass for leaving it in Florida (I just got it mailed back to me a couple weeks ago...thanks JJ.) but it's really no big deal...the task map IS A BIG BIG BIG DEAL.

by the way - you guys do a great job with the site - keep it up and I'm happy to answer any questions.

2. "Thanks again"
Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions, Greg. I'm sure I'll have some more after this week's episode.

As for the sportscast, I figured that that was what was going on. Thanks for the clarification and perspective.

And since you had a question for me, it's only fair that I should answer it. This is going to take awhile, though.

Without a drivers' license you can't (legally) drive, which puts that burden on your teammates. I figured that they might grow to resent you for that. Also, without ID, proving who you are on those rare occasions that you need to do so figured to be a hassle. And I figured, someone careless enough to lose their license is careless enough to do something else foolish along the way.

When I wrote that (at the end of episode 2), Doug and Stacey had done little to distinguish themselves, but also had done nothing foolish that I could see. So I figured it would come down to you vs. Kerri. And though Kerri could be abrasive and was something of an airhead, she had anchored one task, set up one, and performed the other one. I figured it would be tough to get rid of someone who was doing all the scoring, no matter how hard she may be to deal with. My perception had changed by the time you guys got to vote, and I knew she was a goner and you were safe.

Thanks once again for answering these questions, and thanks for your comments.

3. "RE: Questions for Greg"
Hi Greg! I'm a big fan of the show! Really diggin this season.

1. How awkward was it with a camera following you around? Did you really like it, or was it just annoying?

2. Did you guys rush around everywhere, like it looks like on the show, or did you spend a lot of time chillin too?

3. Do you still regularly talk to anyone on the show, now that it's over?

Thanks a lot Greg!

4. "RE: Questions for Greg"
Hey Jim (I'm assuming that's your name)

I'm glad you like the show - It's pretty interesting, and as far as I can tell everybody is being portrayed accurately.

As for your queries, I offer this:

1)cameras - let me set-up the production crew for you all. There are two crews, a morning/afternoon crew and a night crew. Often, the nite crew would go ahead to the place we thought we would end up later that nite (you can imagine the logistical problems when we left the map behind...we were supposed to be in Atlanta that night) The crew consists of 3 camera people, a couple sound-techs, and a production assistant (gopher)
Two of the camera guys were usually around us in a way that we wouldn't necessarily notice them. The other camera person is the main producer. He/she was always in the car with us when we got a ride and also always slept in the same room with us at night...we aren't all sleeping in the same room because we wanted to, it's because we had to...OK I'm getting off track, sorry - OH YEAH, the camera crew - It never bothered me because the cameras are relativley small, and unobtrusive. Like anything, you get used to it - and you know what, these people become your friends, so it's like one of your buddies walking around with a camcorder.

2)You know what - we really did rush around. It was a pretty constant cycle of: sleep, hop around a city, attempt a task, travel to next city, eat, sleep. During the day was pretty frantic, because, as you saw in the first episode, just because you get to the location or get the player, it doesn't mean you'll complete the task (I still can't see from the damn swimming thing)The only time we sat and chilled for a little was when we voted off Kerri. We spent some down time in a park eating all the food that Dan bought for us (which was an absolute feast) That was the only time it felt like I wasn't playing the game.

3)As for keeping in touch - yes, I speak with some more than others, but they all mean a lot to me. I talk with Charles, Doug and Kristin once a week or so, AnneMarie and communicate multiple times a day through e-mail...I even spoke with Eric this weekend. Each time I've gone to LA since the show, I've seen everybody and we go out to dinner. All good people, just not all people you'd want on your team.

sorry this got a little lengthy (slow day at work)

cheers

greg

What a rush. From the sound of it, those peeps on the Amazing Race are real wimps compared to you guys.

I just saw a re-run today on ESPN, and that field goal with the Huntsville Vipers was HARD. Doug should just get free McDonalds for making it once!

Thanks for the info, Greg. It's fun to hear stories.

5. How did you find out about River Downs? Did you see a sign along the road? Did you research it on the Internet? Did one of the people you met point you toward it? Or was it something else?
6. How did you keep Eric in check? Do you believe it was more a result of you and your teammates telling him the way things were going to work, or was it a result of Eric making subtle changes in his personality to get along with everyone?

7. "RE: Two more"
Solid episode - my humor finally came out...anyways

5) river downs: we found out about River Downs when we were back in Nashville. We had thought about doing the horse task in Kentucky because it was right when the Derby was going on. But when Doug called a gym and asked if there were any female pro boxers in the state...and he was actualy talking to 1 of the 2 in the ENTIRE state - we had to go with it. So River Downs was our backup plan all along due to our research in Tennessee. We always had at least 1 back-up plan....well, almost always.

6)I think Eric took an pride shot when he got eliminated and he didn't want to make a loud entrance because it cost him with team CAKE. So I think he initially toned it down because we had things all set to go when he arrived.

Keep in mind - there were 16 total finalists that were brought to Miami and we all hooped it up like a bunch of rock-stars. Doug and Eric were roomates, so they were fairly close (as I was with Charles) so when we saw Eric, we saw the Eric that we knew in South Beach...I still thought we were gonna get an alternate.

Thanks again, Greg. I have to agree that backup plans will serve you well in a game like this - especially when the tasks themselves are no gimmes.

And in seeing it from your perspective, I can see where you would give him an open welcome. You wouldn't have known what he had done to get voted off from Team Cake; they're hardly likely to tell you during their calls to your team. We, the TV viewers, have the advantage of seeing both teams more or less simultaneously.

So, I hope things continue to work out well for Team Exodus and Eric. And you too, of course.

7. Chris Chandler is the first person I've noticed who mentioned that he watched the first BB&D. Did you encounter many other people who watched the first show? Did it help in getting favors?

8. It's too bad Stacey's not here to defend herself, but what the hey: She mentioned at a couple of different points in this episode about you guys ignoring her input. Do you think she had a legitimate beef?

10. "RE: Week 5 questions for Greg"
not a bad episode - but they left a lot out.

chris chandler was one of the nicest guys we came across. If you noticed, team CAKE tried to get ahold of him via PR...it didn;t work because Chris was still out of town. Doug and I did some research through the Chicago Tribune Web Site in the morning...we knew that Chris lived in Lake Forest, so we searched for houses recently purchased in Lake Forest and BOOM, there was the Chandler residence, complete with phone number. So when Stacey is on the phone, she's actualy talking to Chandler's wife - his wife get ahold of Chris on his cell and we were all set. So when the "voice" says, that we called CHris Chandler it's not like we just magically had his number - we researched our asses off to get it. He had just gotten home from Denver, went to pick up his kids from school and then came to meet us.

Eddie George saw some of the first season and so did Mike James. Most athletes (as we found out from the ESPY's)are familiar with the show. Because the show airs on ESPN - leagues such as arena football and the WNBA are more likely to help because of the positive exposure it brings. NBA, NFL etc... are already very well established leagues - and getting them to help is a matter of the person in charge.

As for Stacey - I mentioned a couple times last nite that I understood her frustration...most of it was with Doug. Doug is a great leader, and is always positive. When Stacey wanted to just let it out - Doug would try to change her mood instead of just letting her deal with it. But here's something to think about. When the PR guy for the Fever told us that we would have to wait until 2:00 - Stacey was the first one to say "great, we'll do it" Well, we were forced to wait longer, failed the task, and on top of that, some of the Pacers were shooting around on the practice floor and we couldn't get there attention. That is where the majority of Stacey's frustration came from. At that time, Eric, Doug and I could have been Ghandi, Michael Jordan and Oprah and she still would've been pissed.

13. "A new question for Greg..."
Hi Greg! I'm enjoying the show and it's lovely that you, Ann Marie, and Kristen are willing to answer questions for us!

Here's my (very long-- sorry!) question:

Both you and Chris went one-on-one against WNBA stars and you both lost in a close game. My husband and I thought that it would have been relatively easy for both women to take it a little easy on the two of you, but both seemed absolutely intent on winning.

Not only that, but it actually seemed like the woman you played against, on The Fever, was especially determined to win because she didn't seem to want to play the game against you in the first place and felt forced into playing.

Though sports is about giving it all you've got and not letting somebody else win, this past episode was heartbreaking because you had been waiting for so long and wanted to complete the task so badly. I thought for sure that she'd relax a little bit so you guys could pull it off in the end. After all, after practicing for three hours beforehand, she had the perfect excuse.

I guess my point is that if it were me playing against you, I would have looked at how badly Stacey and Doug wanted and you to win and would have fudged it a teeny bit. But no dice from The Fever!

Do you think that this is because the WNBA stars are generally not as respected as NBA players and she couldn't afford (and refused to) get beaten by a guy?

SO, do you think that both teams committed a tactical error by choosing guys to go against her?

Maybe one of the women on Team Cake or Team Exodus would have had a better chance against the WNBA women-- their skills perhaps wouldn't have been as good, but they might have earned a little more sympathy from the WNBA players.

It just really struck me as interesting that neither of you won, and the woman from The Fever seemed particularly pissy about participating, and I wondered if she was trying to teach you guys a lesson.

Sorry this was so long. Take care, and may the best team win!!

14. "RE: A new question for Greg..."
Well, I'm glad you're enjoying the show -

As for your very long question...

...When the idea of playing a WNBA all-star came up, our team thought I had the best chance of winning - as did team Cake with Charles.

THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE PLAYER WOULD LET US WIN!

The competitive nature of the athlete takes over. It's a pride issue as much as anything. I was an athlete in college and if someone wanted to race me for fun or for the purposes of completing a task - well, they better be ready to go because I'm goin'

Natalie and I are similar in the fact that we were both All-American athletes in college, so I can understand her position. To be honest, I wanted her to give me everything she had and she did.

To touch on your other point - having Kristin, or Stacey or another girl play would not have worked, and I'll tell you why: the producers never would have let that happen. I'm not discounting the abilities of the girls, but for god's sake, Chamique is 6'4" and Natalie is 6'3". Had one of the girls pulled off the victory it would be obvious that something was up...and I guarantee there would be no sympathy from either one of the players.

You raise interesting points - but it was all or nothing.

15. "Week 6 questions"
As always, thanks for answering our questions, Greg.

9. (Asked in the episode summary thread) What was the story with you driving when your license was lost?
10. I thought the basketball medley (layup, free throw, 3 pointer in 20 seconds) was one of the most difficult tasks. The problem, it appeared to me, was getting time to set and make those shots. I suspect many NBA players and most college players would not be able to do it. Having done it, do you feel similarly?
11. I've lost count; is that 6 or 7 tasks your team has tried and failed so far? Or is it higher than that?

16. "RE: Week 6 questions"
I answered the liscence question in another topic -

as for the others...

I didn't think the hoop medley was that tough. When we were in Milwaukee I practiced it - because had we missed the free throws we would have done the medley. We saved the medley for Minnesota because of the car. I knew I could get my parents car at home to get to Minneapolis. I completed the task 3 times out of four (I'm a deadly shooter) SO I was pretty confident that we could do it in Minneapolis.

As far as failed tasks are concerned...man-o-man let's count:

swim medley............just go my vision back yesterday
arena football kick....Doug is still yelling
WNBA task..............Don't want to talk about it
35-yd. pass............Stacey still brusied
hoop medley............didn't matter (I'll explain next week)

TASKS WE COULN'T DO -

10 mater platform......jackass lifeguard wouldn't let us
anchor the sportscast in Miami...too big a market (sweeps week)
hoop tasks with Mike James..I was surprised we even contacted him

....but these were tasks that we didn't give up on and were able to do later during our travels.

First, just want to say I thought you were one of the few good things about this season of BB&D ... you and Bubba and Josh from last season would be an unbeatable combo.

Just a couple questions, if you don't mind ...

Have any of you guys gone back and found some of the people who helped you along the way to thank them, pay them back, etc.?

How much does ESPN cater the tasks to the teams' abilities? For instance, you were an All-American in college (I think), and it seemed like some of the other members had their own specialities when it cames to sports and/or knowing people.

What was the absolute best/worst moment of playing the game (aside from winning!)?

Thanks for the time in advance!

I have my own little world. But it's OK ... they know me here.

18. "RE: Week 6 questions"
wow - I really appreciate the kind words. It sounds easy to say, I was just acting like myself the whole way. What you saw of me was "me" My character wasn't skewed at all, which is refreshing.

I've spoken with a few of the people whom we came across along the way. We can't make any claims to any of the people who help us that we'll "make it worth their while" if they help us. But I know Stacey got some addresses and phone numbers of people. I'd like to take the time to personally thank everyone, but it hasn't happened yet.

All of the tasks are pre-determined by the producers and the network. They don't cator to our abilities per sey, but because they involve so many different sports - they end up playing into our comfort zone at times. Swimming for example is a little out of my comfort zone - I am an all-american...but that was on the track...in the pool is a different ball game. You're right when you say that everyone seemed to have their strenghts - well that's what you need to prove to the producers in order to get on the show.

BEST AND WORST:

The best part of the game doesn't happen along the way...it happens when you're done and have time to reflect. The best part of the game is the game itself.

The worst/most difficult part of the game is the inability to relieve stress. Luckily, I don't get too bothered by much, I don't panic either - but I never really had a chance to clear my head...my brain was full halfway through.

what can I say - I'm a lucky man for having been a part of this

19. "RE: Questions for Greg"
Hopefully these questions weren't answered already.

1) Whatever happened with the State Police? You guys made the decision not to stop. Did they ever go after your father (I think thats whose car it was) for that? You were the anti-Josh in getting out of tolls, lol.

2) How do you think the Maloofs feel spending $60,000 to try and help Kerri yet its her three teammates who kick her out and end up winning? Personally, I find that hysterical. Then again, she was way too hyper for me.

3) You mentioned various people who prevented you from doing tasks but who was the worst one? The one who had no reason to be a ##### but was one anyway.

Anyway, you were my second favorite person on the show (after the extremely cute Stacey) due to your great sense of humor and ability to keep a level head. Normally, I think that I could do well on a reality show but this is one that I don't think that I could do since I have no begging ability at all so my hat is off to you guys for completing so many of those tasks that I would think would be damn near impossible.

Yeah, I'm stupid. I just saw that you explained this one in the reply to that episode's summary. I should really learn to read better when I'm on the internet at 3 in the morning.

21. "RE: Questions for Greg"
I can't remember what the heck questions I've already answered...I'm tired

The 100th anniversary of Harley Davidson has brought 250,000 bikers to Milwaukee, and I'm a bartender downtown...I'm tired

As for your queries:

1) well, by now you know the answer to that one

2) asking the maloof's for a 60,000 favor is like me asking my parents for $1000. It's a lot of money, but they'd do it if I made it seem like it was vital. Kerri did a great job of selling the importance of the task without giving too much information. For the Maloof's it turned out to be a great advertisement for themselves (not that they need it) but it also shows how generous and caring they really are. I don't think they minded at all.

3) the most difficult people we came across were with the Chicago Cubs. The reason you all didn't see any of that footage was because cameras were not welcome...and neither were we. They got pissed when I took a cup of water. It was funny - the Brewers were in CHicago that week and I'm in pretty good with the media staff. I called my friend/PR girl for the Brewers to see if we could get in through her. She called me back 5 minutes later saying, "What the hell did you guys do to those people." - man, it's not like we wanted to play in the game for God's sake!

thanks also for the kind words and I agree, Stacey is cute.

22. "Radio interview"
Geez, you should have told us that you were going to do a radio interview yesterday morning, Greg! I just caught the end of it, right before you said you were going back to sleep.

24. "RE: Radio interview"
I would've been happy to inform you of the interview, but I forgot I was doing it. I had gotten home about 4am that morning and the interview was at like 8:30 or something.

Morning is not my friend - and my morning voice is a cross between that of Leerch and Barry White...very amusing. So when I attempted to answer the first question nothing really came out. I opened my mouth...I know I did, but there was nothing there.

"Still trying to shake off the cob-webs, Greg?" was the response. I told the guys that I was installing a soft hot tub in my family room at the time, so I was distracted. I love radio interviews.

If you want to hear the full interview, the sporting news radio web site should have an archive section that you can access through real-1 or windows media. I've done a couple things with those guys.

Thanks for your answers. So both teams got screwed over by the Cubs. You figure a team like that would want any good publicity it could get. I mean, hell, they haven't even made the World Series since '45. Then again, not everyone can be as good as the Yankees.

Good analogy on the Maloofs. I just found it amusing. They seemed like very nice guys though, then again I would be too if I was rumored to be hanging out with Britney Spears.

Damn, all this Beg, Borrow and Deal reading has made me start singing that catchy jingle created by Wayne in the last episode. Excuse me while I go try and erase it with a lot of beer.

2. If a tree falls in the forest and there is no living thing there to hear it, does it really make any noise?
3. Who's hotter, Ginger or Mary Ann?
4. Did you know that Beg, Borrow and deal was cancelled years ago?
