"Either the fix is in, or NBC can't edit"
When I saw 2/3-3/4 of the audience give Monty a standing ovation, I thought he was a shoo-in to make it to the final 10. Yet he gets passed by and others who didn't get nearly the same audience response - suggesting they weren't as good - advance. What's the deal?
Granted, it isn't only what the audience thinks that matters, hence the need for the judges, but given that they're trying to find the next big comic, should more attention not be paid to how well the comics are being received by the public?
If an audience doesn't laugh at anything a comic says, the judges wouldn't be able to help but take note of it. So why doesn't it work the other way around?
I vote for a recount - put Monty in and take out someone who didn't earn the crowd's approval as much as he did (read: anyone).
And if it was just poor editing by NBC and the other comics actually were better received than it appeared, how about showing us that? Evidently, they're no strangers to splicing segments together (given Jay Mohr's opening segment where he's got his hands clasped together at his chest, then cut to behind him and his hands are at his sides, then cut to in front of him and his hands are behind him, then cut to behind him and his hands are back at his sides...)
If the audience was killing itself laughing so hard at the comics who advanced, how about showing it to the viewing audience? As it stands now, I'm considering no longer watching, since it seems the judge's votes are skewed and that it doesn't actually have anything to do with the most deserving comic, but the comic that a handful of judges likes the most. There's a fundamental difference. Hopefully the shows will soon start to demonstrate that.

Sigh. I suppose it's too much to ask that they just pick the 10 funniest (i.e. crowd pleasers). What if the 10 funniest turned out to be all black guys or all wise-##### chicks or all whatever? We'd get a funnier show to watch, but they seem compelled to give us a mix of personalities, some of which aren't funny as some of the other types which might be "duplicated."

I thought the Jewish-Iranian kid should've got in, and Monty was funny but I would say I would pick a younger person who maybe isn't as funny now but has potential. Ant? Is not funny. No offense to gays, but his flaming irritates me, and didn't I hear the same jokes last season?

They ought to dump the prelim shows and go straight to the house. Much fun as some of that stuff was, if the network and producers are just casting for the best mix with little regard for talent .... well, at least the ones that got axed shouldn't take it badly.

I agree dabo, I could do without hearing bad jokes, but it would seem like the network is trying to get as much bang for their buck as possible. That means that we the consumer are forced to stomach this trash. They could do like AI and have a show where they show "the worst" of the bunch. But did we really need to see the guy with the tv saying "take my wife....please".

I agree. It's very sad that the producers are trying to pick out the personalities instead of the sense of humor. I would think that this is one show in which the main talent does give these people the personalities that would stand out in the house. Aren't good commedians occasionally quick and funny off stage?

On last year's LCS, Dave and Rich were probably the funniest in the house. The producers still would have had a great show without unfunny, but quirky, Dat in the house. There were times other than their torture of Dat that the two of them were really funny and entertaining. Why not highlight those moments? The controversy will still come via the elimination ceremonies no matter who is in the house. I personally find Will Durst, for example, to be hilarious and I think he could be entertaining even if he isn't young or controversial.

I'll watch again, but only because Jessica Kirson finally got eliminated.

Well said. The fix is in, and NBC certainly can't edit.

And I'm sure the only reason they're showing all the preliminary stuff (and even going as far as having celebrity "judges"), is due to the popularity of the American Idol William Hung phenomenon.

Go ahead - admit it. At certain points during the first two episodes of LCS2, you probably found yourself laughing not at the comedy, but at the fact certain people thought it was comedy.

Networks are notorious for hand-picking half the reality TV contestants already (outside of formal 'audition' processes, why would we expect anything different here, just because they billed it as a competition? Oh. right.

Its all about the ratings i think. I hated Todd Glass's act, and I'm sure a bunch of other people did too, but i was rooting for him because he'd annoy all the people in the house and make it funny. I ;oved last year's house because everyone made fun of Dat Phan and it was hilarious.(Although i am mad about him winning) NBC wants the house to be funny.

It is definitely all about the ratings.

Those prelim shows drew like 9 or 10 million viewers. That's a ton of advertising dollars.

Corey and Alonzo might be the top contenders at this point.

Am I the only one shocked at the 94-6 defeat of Bonnie? I thought she was straight up funnier.

No, I'm not shocked. John's pacing was more polished. He had a more traditional approach to his set which I think more audience members could relate to. Bonnie's material probably was just as funny. But as we know by now, it's as much about packaging and presentation, as it is about content.

John had the package and Bonnie didn't, IMO. Frankly I'm also glad to see Bonnie go based on her use of the "C" word and her sniping at Tammy. Might have been editing that made her look so unkind. Whatever, good riddance to her.

Hoping Kathleen takes it all.

I don't think she lacked polish whatsoever.

On the other hand, a friend of mine saw John perform in Lake Tahoe around 2 or 3 years ago and raved about him from the rooftops. Perhaps he had funnier stuff that maybe wasn't fit for television, which I tend to think is the case after watching the show last year and being surprised by the results several times.
