"American Idol Wild Card Pick (RJ) etc"
Any thoughts on the Wild Card pick? I was surprised and disappointed to see RJ even be one of the 5 wild cards, much less their final choice. He is so bland and typical, I don't see anything special about him. My picks for deserving wild card:
1. Angela-unique and super talented
2. Kelli-also super talented, not as unique though
3. Christopher-great look and voice
4. Alexis-potential, but apparently only knows 2 songs
5. RJ-yawn, snooze, etc.

As far as next week, I think EJay and Kelly will probably be the first two eliminated, though I'd pick the horrible, wretched AJ and one of his fellow N'Sync members RJ or Jim.

Final three probably Justin (who will win), Ryan and either Tamyra or Christina.

I think AJ will definitely be one of the first to go; he is just a waste of space.

I've seen petitions to get Jim booted as well, but I think he has a stronger fan base than AJ.

I didn't really like anyone last night. I think it is funny how Kelli and Alexis sounded exactly the same, but Kelli was great and original, and Alexis was karaoke. They are all karaoke!!

As soon as I found out that he was going to be a wild card, I thought that he would win the judges vote. Of course, he wins their vote, and everyone is like, "Oh he came back with a vengence!" Or something like that.

I only caught the last hour of this show; so I can't comment on everyone. But it is obvious that Tamyra and Justin are the favorites. The middle tier includes Kelly, Christina, Ryan, and RJ in that order. Everyone else is the bottom tier that shouldn't even be there. AJ looked like a zombie on stage, and Jim is just a sad clown boy. Nikki has a FOUR year old child? I knew she was a mom, but I thought the baby would be no more than a year old.

I think Jim and AJ SHOULD get the boot tonight. But I think that the actual bootees will be two of the following: Nikki, EJ, AJ. I think Jim has too big of a fan base to lose in the first round. He is such a sad clown boy.

Oh Sticks!!! I am so sorry you missed it! I think one of the most entertaining ( contestant wise) shows yet.
And lets face it, even the weak ones are pretty darn good!
It was all Motown ( which I think may have bugged my husband, but only because I knew all the words to all the songs, and was singing long after the show was over LOL)

Justin was the ONLY male that I think is a make to move on. Good God that kid just sparkles! He will most likely win, but I think either way, he will get a recording contract.

Christina was wonderful, I think she should move on, Tamayra ( sp?) always is wonderful looks like a star. And Kelly Blows me away everytime I see her, I get chills!! Ryan looks great sounds great, she should move on ( but I think she is a long shot to win it all) Those were MY personnal favs, but the ones that thejudges thought were a lock too.

BTW, sweet little Kelly, is a local girl for me,( not that I am biased LOL) but Joshua Texas is a mere 20 minutes from me, and part of my husbands Cable system.

Watching BB tonight , so hoping someone will give the info for tonight's show.

Well, thanks for the kudos, but my post here wasn't that accurate, and I think I totally overrated Christina. Are you talking about my post that I am embarrassed to admit putting on the ridiculous official AI boards? That's where I said EJay was a goner and probably Jim, but I use a somewhat different name there (on the rare, rare, rare occasion I'm on those boards).

Damn my VCR !!!!

I just got back from vacation last night, and saw all of American Idol that I missed, except the finale of the elimination show.

I saw EJay get booted (he was robbed, Nikki has never hit a single note since I have seen her on the show, don't understand what the judges see in her, aside from the fact that she is a pretty woman.)

Then Jim was told he was one of the bottom three votegetters and my tape stopped.

Was he booted? Who was the other bottom dweller?

My vote is for Jim, he was HORRIBLE !!!!!

Katem, I thought the way they announced the bootees was very poorly done.

First they told EJ that he had the fewest votes and sent him away. Then they tried to create suspense by singling out the next two lowest vote getters. They were Jim and Nikki. Poor Nikki was singled out for no reason. Then they let all the contestants hug Jim and played a sad song and let him say final words. Where was the fan fare for EJ's departure?

I really hope that AJ goes this week, he looks like a corpse but with worse stage presence.

Well I hope that it was a wake up call for Nikki, she was really bad. EJay was truly robbed. She and Jim should have gone.

I really did not see anything special from Ryan either.

AJ has a good voice, I just think he's too young.

Thank you for the update Sticks

Katem, I have to disagree with you about AJ. He sang "My Cherie Amour" last time and was awful. He was off key when he sang the opening "La, La, La" bit. You know it is a bad sign when a singer cannot sing "la, la, la" properly.

As for EJ, I'm glad he's gone. First, the last three times we have seen him, he has looked like a reject from Newsies wearing one of those ridiculous hats. Secondly, he feels the need to insert extra notes into everything he sings to show off. Why hold one note, when you can sing thirty five in a span of six seconds? He may have some musical talent, but he is a competitor I would rather not see again.

I can't believe I have so much to say about American Idol contestants.

Ugh! AJ is horrible, but I thought EJay was the worst of the ten finalists. Nikki better hope the theme is rock-oriented or she'll be out. With two guys eliminated, I think this week one of the girls will go, and it seems to me that Ryan, Tamyra and Kelly are safe. So, although it SHOULD definitely be AJ who leaves, Nikki is obviously in great danger. Nonetheless, my choice for this week's elimination is...Christina. I predict the rock theme will save Nikki and eliminate the girl with the weakest fan base.

Unless he pulls a powerhouse performance, I agree that AJ will go on Wednesday. I don't see him pulling it together though.

Are we sure that this week is rock that they are singing? If it is, I agree that Nikki will have a shot at sticking around.

The other candidate to leave is Ryan, not Christina. I have not seen Ryan really shine, aside from her looks. Christina (although not my favorite) has the talent and looks.

This thing is getting better and better. Don't feel bad for having so much to say about A.I. Sticks, this is a pretty good show.

Actually, I like Ryan. I think she is one of the best ones. She has the "X" factor thing, she has a good voice, and she is original. She, like Nikki, benefits by being different than the others, who can be borderline interchangeable. I think Ryan will definitely be one of the final 5 and probably end up in 3rd or 4th place, if the whole Justin-Tamyra showdown continues as predicted. And, who knows what the theme will be tonight. I just guess it will be rock-oriented to give Nikki a chance to survive, and will also benefit Ryan. It will be a detriment to the leaders.

And I also hope it is because I am SO SICK of the same old songs. If I hear another wannabe sing Stevie Wonder, I'll puke.

Okay I just caught an episode of this....

A.J. needs to go - he sounds exactly like the N'Sync kid! And that's not a good thing.

Ryan and Nikki aren't quite as bad, but they're nothing special.

I don't see why Justin is so popular - that performance wasn't all that (though I guess he's not a bad ~performer~). He's not even really attractive, so I have no idea where the support is coming from.

Kelly rocks - she has the looks and the voice for it. I think she was the best one there, tonight.

But that Tamyra can really belt it out and she also has a lot of fun with it - more popstarish than everyone.

Ummm Christina and R.J. fill out the rest. I mean, they don't suck but they're not amazing.

My order now:

8. A.J.
7. Nikki
6. Ryan - just because she's hotter.
5. R.J.
4. Christina
3. Justin - because at least one guy has to be there at the end.
2. Kelly
1. Tamyra

Just saw tonight's performances, here is what I think:

Justin. He blew it. I totally agree with you Koko, where the hell is the fire? He was all attitude and smirks. The boy does not really have a good voice, it does not suck, just nothing special. The hair is getting to me, I just want to tell him: "Don't we just love our hair, do us a favor, CUT IT !!!!".

Christina. Nothing special, she wasn't bad, but not good either. I'm not really fond of her Tweedy Bird voice.

Nikki. Better than last week, but not by much. SHE CAN'T SING TO SAVE HER LIFE !!!!

Ryan. The worst of the evening, BY FAR !!!!! She, like Nikki, does not have a voice to match her looks.

AJ. He was so-so. He will probably go, but I think overall Nikki or Ryan deserve to be kicked out, not just for tonight, but overall.

RJ. I like his voice, very sweet voice. He was really good tonight.

Tamyra. She was really good, if only she would have told the backup singers to lower their voices.

Kelly. You all say it with me now ..... KELLY IS THE AMERICAN IDOL !!!!!!!! This girl is FABULOUS, and I do not use the "F" word lightly. She keeps getting better and better.

Prediction: AJ will go.
My choice to booted: Ryan or Nikki.

I'm actually watching this show and flipping to Mole on commercials instead of the other way around now. Here's what I thought....

Justin - was ok, but I've seen much better from him. Is starting to use the eye contact/flirting with the camera too much.

Christina - good, but would fit in better with a group. More Destiny's Child than American Idol.

Nikki - I love her. Not so much for her singing and don't think she should or would win, but there's just something adorable about her.

Ryan - won't make American Idol, but could do something along the lines of Joan Jett. Maybe she and Nikki can pair up and do the rock and roll tour.

AJ and RJ - boy band, but can't carry it on their own. Put them together because they're interchangable.

Tamyra - I don't get what the big deal is with her. She's good but I wouldn't pay money to go and see her.

Kelly - This is the OMG chick, had goosebumps on my arms after her song. I don't care if she screws up down the road, she's my fav.

Pick to go - RJ or AJ (interchangable remember) simply because I'd rather watch any of the others

edited to add this: I love how the contestants are loosing the terror that Simon used to instill in them and are actually standing up for themselves. They've come a long way baby.

"I love how the contestants are loosing the terror that Simon used to instill in them and are actually standing up for themselves. They've come a long way baby. "

I don't understand how the contestants could be so stupid when dealing with Simon. Simon will be one of the PRODUCERS of the album they will make. Paula and Randy will go home after this is done. But the American Idol will be dealing with Simon on a daily basis.

I have seen the contract that they all sign, and it says that they are not guaranteed a recording deal. Basically, if they win the contestant Simon Cowell and Simon Fuller may decide not to make a record, it is in the CONTRACT! It is Simon's record label they are fighting to win a spot on.

I'm so sick of the contestant's saying "I don't care what Simon thinks". Hello? You have to care what Simon thinks because he has more control over the contestant than anyone else on the planet. The public picks the winner of the contest, but they do not pick who makes a record. Maybe Hubris Records will sign them, but Simon won't.

I'm so sick of the contestant's saying "I don't care what Simon thinks".

There's a difference between that and standing up for yourself, Paula even encouraged Ryan last night to jump in and defend herself. And as a person becomes more confident hopefully they learn that how they felt about themselves is more important than what someone just said to them. Personally I hated seeing them trembling in terror much worse.

As for being afraid Simon may pull the plug, if the winner's single hit's high on the charts don't believe that Simon won't put up with a little smart mouth. It's all about money, honey.

The contestants are job applicants.

Simon is the employer.
Paula is NOT the employer.
Randy is NOT the employer.

If they piss Simon off too much there won't even be a first single. According to the contract they basically sell there souls to Simon if they win. They should be using his criticism not ignoring it. I'm sorry, but I just cannot agree with Paul's applauding the effort attitude. I could put in all the effort in the world, but not be a good singer. It is not helping anyone grow or improve to tell them they are good when they cannot hold a note without warbling or stay on key for more than two seconds.

Oh please, these contestants beat out thousands, so they can't be horrible. A certain style may not be their forte, but they are still good. As for employer, Randy, Paula and Simon are all judges and after the winner is named you can bet there will be at least a single. As for attitude, most people admire someone that stands up for theirselves instead of becoming a punching bag, and personally I don't see Simon as carrying a petty grudge against someone that actually said something back to him.

PS Sticks I hope you're taking this sparing back and forth on this subject lightly and not getting heated

I'm so hooked on this show!

I am so tempted to write a story now about a boy band with members A.J., E.J., R.J., C.J. and D.J. - what the hell is up with that?

OK -

Tamyra - she has total presence - looks and walks like a star. and I'm a sucker for any Tina Turner song - she made it hers last night - she's a born performer

Kelly - OMG - I love her - she made you forget Aretha sang that song first. Just adorable and almost impossible not to cheer for.

Justin - is getting too cocky. He has such charisma - you have to watch him, but isn't that strong of a singer. Still, he is a funky little hotty - really bad song choice last night - a smirk and a head bobble will only get you so far.

Nikki - I love her but I think it's because of the songs she picks."Total Eclipse of the Heart " I've sang that into my hairbrush about 900 times! "Ben" is my favorite Michael Jackson song even though she did not do it well and now Janis Joplin - I love that! She isn't as good of a singer as I thought she was.

Ryan - ok - no more Kinks songs for her. WTF was that? She was really bad last night. Simon was right.

A.J. - sucks. What is the deal with him. He has a small, tinny, weak little voice. I cannot stand him.

R.J. - could not be less remarkable. He's ok - that's all you can ever say about him,

Christina - she's just a beautiful girl. But I think she's kind of limited. She can really work a song like "At Last" but I did not think she did that well last night. But OMH - do I wish I looked like her!

A.J. or Ryan should go. I think A.J. was worse but for some reason, I think it's time for a girl to go.

I think it will be a girl, too, and definitely not Kelly or Tamyra. Nikki did a perfect song for her, so she's probably saved herself. I enjoyed Ryan but she could be out after last nights unpopular performance. I sort of think it's going to be Christina, who is just SO DULL. Of course, AJ is never safe because he is by far the worst, but is also the only heterosexual boy left. So I think ---
Goodbye, Christina.
With AJ and Ryan as alternate possibilities.

Is Paula the most immature person on television?

Does anyone want to see her picking fights with Simon? The only thing sadder than her Simon insults is the fact that they were obviously scripted and rehearsed. The writers had a week to come up with good put-downs, and that is the best they could come up with?

Also, Paula said she had "won Grammies". Um, she won ONE Grammy, for best video. First of all, the best video award is for the concept of the video, the director, videographer, etc. not the singer. Second, she hasn't won a damn thing for her singing abilities. She lost best Female Artist to Bonnie Raitt.

I thought the two toolish hosts were the people I hated most on this show. Brian Dunkleman would have to run over my foot in his car for me to hate him more than I hate Paula.

30. "RE: I hated Paula tonight."
LAST EDITED ON 07-25-02 AT 05:20 PM (EST)

Actually Sticks, Paula and Simon have been fighting for a while now. Simon said some things about her in a press conference recently. He was asked if he would like to see her return to recording and he said "next question", then he proceeded to make some crack about her not being able to sing.

Simon is right, of course, Paula is coreographer (and a darn good one), but she is not a singer. Although, Simon was out of line in making those sort of comments, they're colleagues, working on this show together, he should be more respectful.

I think she's just pissed at him and will keep fighting with him, which is exactly what the producers were hoping for. I don't think the fights are scripted though.

Ahtumbreez, FYI, Sticks is a girl

Koko and Pooh, you two never miss a chance to crack me up. BTW, if Justin does swing my way, I will pass GO without collecting my $200. YUK, YUK, YUK !!!!

GO KELLY !!!!!!

Oops, sorry Sticks. Was going to edit the above post but didn't sound right, I guess I could have done a Danielle here, what was it, ghetto? and done the "Sticks, girlfriend (I'm shaking the finger and bobbing the head at this point), deep breathe, yada, yada, yada." I just figured with the Paula bashing and taking up for Simon you had to be male . Just kidding here, don't throw anything.

Away for the weekend, have a good one.

Is the judging at the end different? Or is it all done by the public? I really want the judges to pick the winner as Justin really doesn't deserve it. I mean, what a conceited bastard that kid is - Maybe they should've sequestered the contestants so they wouldn't know their popularity?

But honestly, he's not the best singer, nor is he the best looking or the most charismatic and if all his girly fans had any higher perception abilities, they'd be able to tell he doesn't swing their way. Not that he's horrible, he's just not ~the~ American Idol IMO.

Now let us never speak of S3 again.

Oh Koko - how dare you call Justin's masculinity into question? He's as least as manly as Liberace, Rock Hudson, Montgomery Cliff, George Michael and all those other teenybopper heart throbs throughout the years.

I miss Leif Garret.

I don't know how the later rounds will be judged, etc. The show is getting somewhat repetitious, so hopefully they'll switch things up a bit. I agree with the posts that say Justin is way too cocky, an adjective that describes something else about him as well. Also, I agree that Paula has begun to make a fool of herself. The judge squabbling is awful and unentertaining.

Anyway, I do enjoy the show, but hardly expect a "Superstar" to come out of it. Maybe a one-hit-wonder, though. In a way, it may be best in the long run to do well, but not win. The winner will be permanently pegged as the "American Idol," which most likely will not be conducive to a long-term career.

If *I* were competing on this show, I would be praying that I wouldn't win. Whoever wins this contest becomes a slave to Simon. I think whoever comes in second or third will probably get the better career out of it.

My thoughts on the 7 left. (good riddance to AJ, he was way out of his league)

Ryan- My least favorite. She just seems way to immature to handle any kind of stardom. What was with her comment about volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, something like...oh, its so nice, it reminds me that I'm just a regular person. Puhleeeze, honey, you are not a star! (even if you change your name)

RJ- He's only still around because he has a nice smile, and he appeals to teen girls. (who I imagine do most of the voting) He has a nice voice, but his swaying back and forth makes me dizzy.

Nikki- For some reason I think she is adorable, but she always looks a little nervous to me, and she should know better than to chomp gum on camera.

Christina- This girl looks like a movie star, the camera loves her. Her voice isn't the best there, but she is stunning. I don't think she'll win, but I do think she will go places.

Justin- His cocky attitude could kill his chances. Another one getting the teen girl votes. (I guess that's the point, huh?) He's obviously got confidence, and presence.

Tamyra- WOW! She looks so confident, and her voice is amazing. She has been the most consistant of all the performers.

Kelly- She is my favorite. Bonus points for singing a Carole King song. I'm not sure she'll win, but I do think she should make top three, which could make her the real winner.

The judges-

RJ is an idiot, is "what's up?" the only thing he can think of to say? He says it to every one of them. Blech!

Paula- Live TV bickering is not one of your strong points. Sounds really rehearsed and phoney to me.

Simon- I actually think Simon is right on, with his analysis. I just don't think he needs to be quite so harsh about it. Guess it's what gets the ratings.

Um, true? Are you me? Are you reading my mind? I swear I have the exact same opinion on all of the contestants.

RJ looks like he is skiing up there; he never picks up his feet.
