Well, this was just a crap week for this show. Whose idea was Big Band anyways? The only one who really was able to pull it off was Kelly. Even the normally unflappable Tamyra seemed to be struggling.

And then the results show. As soon as the show started and you only saw five figures silloetted instead of six, I knew that the wheels were about to fly off. And it did, with apparently one of the cameramen not getting the message to NOT continue panning after Nikki, and a panic cut to a wide shot.

Was it just me, or did the whole show kind of have a creepy feel to it? Hell if I didn't know better, you'd think Christina had died or something as depressing as the whole thing seemed. Sucks for her though, getting the boot and not even being there to get her moment to emote onscreen.

Both Nikki and RJ really seemed sure that they were the ones going, and I have to agree with Simon on this one. Christina did not deserve to be in the bottom three, although I guess we're at a point now where the really good people are going to be in the bottom three. But the audience at home really hecked up on this one. Nikki is good, but she's in the wrong contest. If it were "Rock Idol" or something like that, she'd win easily. As for RJ, he's replaced Jim as the show's "pity" candidate. He has not given an outstanding performance yet. His best have been good, but this weeks was abysmal. No energy, flubbed lyrics... how is he still on? That had to have been a close race for dead last. Anyone call in and get an idea on how long it took to get through for the various contestants this week?

And that horrid "Ford Focus on the Contestants" segment... ugh. My God, it was like a bad Nickelodeon show. These people need to stay with singing, acting is NONE of their talents.

And the big group number was VERY unstable. The choreography really needed a little reworking after Christina had to go away, the ending looked awkward with Nikki just kind of standing off to the side while the other 4 took center stage.

Fleh.

So did I. How many lives does RJ have. Every week I think he's ready to go, but he just keeps hanging around. On pure talent, Christina was better than both of them.

I think she got the apathy vote this week. She didn't stir people one way or the other, so she just din't get the calls. With RJ, I think we're seeing a case of the vocal minority vote. His few fans knew he was in trouble and rallied to vote for him multiple times.

>Anyone call in and get an

Ms. PackMan made a few calls to place her votes and to see how the voting was going. For Kelly, it was over an hour before she was able to get through. Same for Tamyra. For Justin, it took about ten minutes. Didn't call for RJ or Nikki, but she was able to get in right away for Christina.

No worse than that stupid Coca-Cola moment on Tuesday night with the trumpet. I guess they gotta pay the bills, even if it means putting up some lame-@$$ product plugs.

I think that's something that's bugged me more than anything on this show- all it seems to be is a mega cash-in for Fox. Coca Cola decorating the "Red Room" and making sure that the judges always have the Coca-Cola cups is just the start. I need to go back and time how much actual show time there is compared to commercial time, especially on the Results Show. It seems like it's at least a 50/50 mix, which is WAY too high.

Well, I just gotta put in my two cents: I thought Christina was awful. I don't like her vocal style at all. Boring at best, annoying at worst. For all the criticism of Ryan being more pretty than talented, no one ever said much about Christina. Very pretty girl, but I have been waiting for her to go for the past two weeks. Finally! The next two weeks will be dull, though, since it's almost inevitable that Nikki and RJ will be the next two to go, just a question of "who goes first."

I agree Todd. Christina WAS bad, and I am shocked that she got that far. Granted, she was better than a lot...but a star? not even close. Too much vibrato, no personality...she's just a chill kind of girl. That doesnt play well on the TV screen in videos or whatever. She is DEFINITELY not as talented as most of the others. Now the question is...who is going to be the top two? I LOVE Kelly. She definitely deserves to be up there, but does the "voting public" agree? Tamyra and Justin were early leaders. I'd like to see Justin and Kelly up there. Just because Justin is cute and Kelly is by far the most talented. That's just my two cents

Re: Big Band Theme.

I was glad that they chose a theme that I am not very familiar with. Normally I find myself comparing the contestant's voice to the original song that I have heard so many times. I think it is not fair to the contestants to have to be judged by those standards. If I have never heard the song before it is easier to form an opinion based on their vocal abilities rather than how much they sound like the original performer of the song.

Re: Christina in the bottom 3

With only six contestants left I think Christina was a very obvious choice for the bottom three. Kelly and Tamyra deserve to be at the top, and let's face either Justin or RJ will be in the top 3 because there has to be a male. Also, Christina bleats like a sheep. I don't think she was the worst; based on Tuesday's performance only RJ was the worst. Nikki has consistently been among the worst singers. Either RJ or Nikki should have gone last night, but Christina was deserving of being in the final three. I wouldn't worry about her though, she probably already has a modeling contract; the girl is gorgeous.

Re: Nikki's song choice

I have to disagree with the judges on this one. I thought her song Tuesday was actually a good choice for her. The judges and FOX have labeled her "the rebel" and they won't let her out of that box and show qualities of any other type of personality. Everytime she does something that goes against the stereotype they have created for her, the judges tell her she's not being herself?! I guess they don't get out much because died hair does not a rebel make. There are girls that look like Nikki at every coffee shop in America. Granted, I don't think Nikki is a very good singer, but the judges never tell her that. All they talk about is her image, which they have created and won't let her escape.

Amen! Every time she opens her mouth, we are reminded of how stupid she is. Note to Paula, do yourself a favor and just sit and be quiet.

I agree with this statement, but, all the songs the kids sang I have heard before, especially the ones done by Tamyra and Kelly (in Kelly's case Bette Midler does a killer rendition of "Stuff like that there") and both ladies outdid themselves, they made the songs their own, they are so in a class by themselves is scary for the others.

Agreed, but she was horrible though.

LOL, I call her Tweedy but this is just as good or better

VERY TRUE !!!! And, she does seem like a very nice woman.

Big Band is obviously not easy to perform, you can get killed by the orchestra and it happened to three of them. Kelly, Tamyra and, I hate to admit, Justin all rose to the occassion.

The reason the judges did this is to separate the really good from the just good.

>Both Nikki and RJ really seemed

Uuuughh Malfoy, yeah she did. She was just awful. I don't know if they (the contestants) have any say over the arrangement of the songs, but Christina's song was not meant to be sung in up-tempo, her Tweedy bird voice is grating. She looked gorgeous, as usual, though.

Agreed.

I feel like I have to defend this kid. In past weeks, in my opinion, only Kelly and Tamyra have outperformed him, he has a great voice and when he lets himself go (like Paula Abdul always tell him to do) he is terrific.

This week, was another story altogether. This week he flunked, he was the worst of the night. But I think the audience needs to take into consideration, not just one night's performance but the whole series of performances.

In this case, Nikki was the most deserving to get the boot, then Christina, then RJ or Justin, leaving Kelly and Tamyra to fight it out (Kelly rocks though.)

These are always bad.

Next week Nikki or RJ go.

Wounded Christina Booted from "Idol"
Thu Aug 8, 1:30 PM ET
By Mark Armstrong

A night in the hospital must've sounded more inviting to Christina Christian than getting dumped on national TV.

The 21-year-old American Idol contestant was taken to a Los Angeles hospital Wednesday night just hours before she was voted out of Fox's pop-wannabe competition.

Christian was a no-show on the series after suffering from what was described as "dehydration" caused by stress. Christian was out of doctors' care in time to join her friends and family as they watched her lose the viewer call-in vote.

The Florida college student is expected to make a full recovery.

Seeing how she was judge Simon Cowell's personal crush, the decision was controversial. Christian actually performed well during Tuesday night's show, and the judges were more critical of contestants Nikki McKibbin and especially R.J. Helton, who flubbed the lyrics during his performance of "I Won't Dance."

Admitted Helton on Wednesday's show: "Christina did amazing last night, and I struggled."

Christian, meanwhile, earned praise for her rendition of "Glory of Love." Said Cowell: "I think America voted wrong, and R.J., I think you're incredibly lucky."

Of course, devout Christian fans also weren't too pleased with the decision.

"Christina got robbed," said one fan, Viva, on the Fox message boards. "Good luck, Christina--you're too good a singer for the superficial, stupid audience."

Superficial or not, the viewers have now whittled down the finalists to five: Justin Guarini, Kelly Clarkson, Tamyra Gray, McKibbin and Helton. The finale for Fox's summer hit is set for September 4 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.

Wednesday night's episode also kept Fox's winning streak going in the ratings, notching a preliminary 8.5 household rating and 13 share for first place in its 9:30 p.m. time period. Idol also pushed Fox into second place behind NBC for the night.
