However there usually is a ton of drama when you throw a bunch of I I I I Me Me Me Me Types together and each is convinced that everyone else will only bring them down. *makes popcorn* Is it too much to hope for competing sob stories in the same group. Tonight isn't a heavyweight clash for the title belt, but it represents a pretty significant warm-up fight. Survivor hasn't gone ego-to-ego against AI since the Wednesday switch: tonight is the first of a midweek battle series for the two franchises. Both have lost something from their audience, both have people saying they can't recover as long as the current policies remain in effect -- and realistically, both are in now-or-never mode to show if they have anything left in the tank. Add in the fight over the reality diehard viewership and tomorrow's numbers are going to interest someone in an executive office. Are we looking for a future star or avoiding the Hantzhole? Survivor: 11.2 million Idol: 22.8 million http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/02/17/isurvivor-redepmption-ratings/ This may look like a curb stomp battle and the numbers indicate some pretty heavy damage to the actual curb -- but the AI number also represents a low for them. They are competing for a common audience core, and some people went left while others went right. Given that it's FOX, 'right' was the dominant direction. CBS can't scream too loudly, as this is a better performance than most shows can manage when fighting a case of Ravening Seacrestia -- but it still doesn't look good. And some of that loss can be pinned firmly on the Hantzhole. For their part, FOX can relax -- temporarily. The percentage drop they have can be explained away by that core struggle. But further slippage... well, that could be a lot of things. And the list of those things starts with 'backlash'.
