"No Geekboy Love List this week?"
Perfectly understandable. Nobody's got that much love.

Provide your own if you can somehow manage to choke out an order-sorter for the various grades of sewage, or just explain why last night was not the single worst competition night in show history. There's also a chance it was an audition episode that managed to escape from its chains. Come to think of it, Siobhan still had the straitjacket...

The 'singers' (quotes justified) and their songs:

Lee DeWyze – “The Letter”
Tim Urban – “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”
Paige Miles – “Against All Odds”
Aaron Kelly – “I Don’t Wanna Miss a. Thing”
Crystal Bowersox – “Bobby McGee”
Michael Lynche – “When a Man Loves a Woman”
Andrew Garcia – “I Heard it Through the Grapevine”
Katie Stevens – “Big Girls Don’t Cry”
Didi Binini Benami – “You’re No Good”
Casey James – “Power of Love”
Siobhan Magnus – “Superstition”

And now if you'll excuse me, I have to kill something.

Notta Lotta Love List.

I got nuttin.

(Actually, the prospect of watching Miley Cyrus play Mentor (the only legitimate advice I can see her giving is to be born to an established star father, and/or tryout for a Disney movie) caused me to switch over to a PBS fund raiser featuring a 70's Leonard Cohen concert. Very nice except for the constant begging.)

2. "RE: No Geekboy Love List this week?"
VFTW victory!

1. Crystal-but even she was off and big surprise, she did a Janis song...I wonder what she's going to do next week?

2. Katie-she gets the spot bc she picked a song from this millenium and it was her best and she looked like she was OMG 17

3. Mike-yeah it was loungy but he can sing unlike most of these yahoos

4. Casey-I was excited for about a 1/2 second when I thought he said "Addicted to Love" and not "The Power of love" now that would have been much better and he could have had the girls in the short dresses playing guitar with him. As it was, it was ok, he gets this high for playing the guitar well

5. Lee-ok I didn't hate this and he didn't pick a Nickelback song so I give him props

6. Siobhan-omh what is she screeching about? She looked like a cross between Sanjaya and Sheena Easton with the hair...and wtf was she thinking picking this song?

7. Tim-he has embraced his VFTW status and did all the cheesy corny things he could think of with the worst Queen song in history! WOOT!

8. Aaron-ugh, that stupid song I hate it. he did meh with it

9. Paige-another tragic song choice. The thing is I love this song and no one should sing it but Phil. This was just awful but I hope Paige makes the tour

10. Didi-she is no good and more loungy than Mike

11. Andrew-finally Simon said it, S up was not that great (and not at all original for that matter) He is just awful and I don't like him in a VFTW way either like Tim (at least not yet anyway)

4. "RE: No Geekboy Love List this week?"
I always post my ECST comments for the love list here. It keeps me honest.

-- the top 4 --

1. Michael Lynche – “When a Man Loves a Woman”: I really like this guy. He's got total command of his voice, knows who he is, and you can tell he's putting his heart into it. No question he's professional recording artist material. I'd like to see him change it up a bit, maybe pick up a faster song with more beat in it. Thumbs up for a fav.

2. Siobhan Magnus – “Superstition”: I grew up with the original in high school and I really liked Siobhan's version of it. One thing was obvious - no matter how big or loud the band and backups, her voice cuts right through it, loud and clear. Original, spunky, and worth listening to.

3. Crystal Bowersox – “Bobby McGee”: Good performance, pleasing to watch and listen to, although I wasn't thrilled by it. She does look a lot healthier this week and it was reflected in her play and song... Before she can earn her comparison to Janis, she needs to mix it up.

4. Aaron Kelly – “I Don’t Wanna Miss a. Thing”: I wasn't wow'ed by him, but his was the first genuinely honest performance of the night. I like him.

-- the muddling middlings --

5. Casey James – “Power of Love”: Not bad, at last something like what I had hoped to listen to tonight, although I think he fell way short of Huey Lewis. His rhythm and tone was good, but I wasn't that impressed with his vocals. Also, he didn't move with the rhythm himself, like he was glued in front of the mike until the last riff on the axe. Ok, he'll pass.

6. Lee DeWyze – “The Letter”: Actually, I like this song and I liked the arrangement. With a powerful singer, this number could really rock. But Lee didn't deliver it with a lot of strength and confidence and he often got drowned out by the very good backup. He still looks like he wonders if he belongs on the stage. Good performance, but underwhelming for me.

7. Katie Stevens – “Big Girls Don’t Cry”: I'd just place her in the Mediocre Middle. I almost dozed off at the beginning of that song until the music suddenly got loud. Ok performance for her I guess, and she'll be around for a little while given the lack of talent on the Boring Bottom.

8. Didi Binini Benami – “You’re No Good”: *echo* You're no good... Didn't like the fakery at all. Rather disappointing performance for Didi.

-- chop chop --

9. Paige Miles – “Against All Odds”: Well, let's hope she doesn't sing this song all over again tomorrow night, as likely as it is that she'll be the next out with that performance. (I rank her here instead of the bottom because at least I like her honesty.)

10. Tim Urban – “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” That was about as amateurish as it gets, over the top and across the floor. At least Paige knows her limitations, so we're looking at another bottom feeder here who might survive because of some teeny-boppers who haven't heard real music in their lifetime.

11. Andrew Garcia – “I Heard it Through the Grapevine”: Yikes. This is the worst rendition of one of my favorite songs I've ever heard. My fav is the CCR version and I can play and sing it better than he did and I'm a terrible singer. Can't we just vote at least three off already?

8. "RE: No Geekboy Love List this week?"
I'm going to use your method as I can't handle going back and giving a re-listen. adding some commentary in italics

I notice I tend to type more about the ones I can't stand, as a general rule. Probably to distract me from the pain.

FWIW Either my ears are off or something is wrong with the sound mix. I usually have good relative pitch but those I thought were at least singing all in the same key that at least blended with the instruments got told they had mad pitch problems and the ones I usually thought were awful were called pitch perfect.

Except for Paige. Poor Paige.

I'm not even going to number these poeple. They don't deserve numbers, just a vague order that might mean something.

Siobhan--She sings to the band on the stage. Will she get ripped for it like Didi?

And there is the scream. Wait Miley doesn't look like she's on qualudes for a change tonight. One of the few performances I liked. Even though she's similar every week it I like her voice and it is different enough that I can't tell you exactly how it will sound before she even starts to sing. I do think the big glory note thing needs to not be every song, but it is a AI-Classic and you can't blame her for playing the game

Michael--A bit of slo-mo walrus dance. And there is the glory note. I actually liked this a lot and remember it the next day. He has a smoothness to his voice I like and there is something endearing about how geekily he performes

Crystal--First verse was so quiet I almost couldn't hear it. Better on the chorus. Rocks it out at the end.Can the do anything with the Janis chip she has installed. I mean she does it well, but I really can't tell her performances apart

Katie--They are so close to getting the synchronized knee bends fully programed into this one.

At least she seemed to be close to on pitch and not way too low at the start like most of them. She has range, which a lot of them don't, usually to get the glory note they have to sing half the song below where they actually can sing. I didn't get this as mad pitchy, but then it is kinda tuneless and I thought the notes that weren't in the original were planed rather than just happened.

Lee--Looks like they installed the personality chip this week. This is the first time I can remember actually kinda liking what he was singing. Psuedo-Buble suits him much better than Psuedo-Nicklebackdaughtry

Tim--Starts with the mic stand. Then goes and walks around touches hands. Does a slide. Goes into the pit o' swaybots. More hand touching. Was it cheesy, yep, did it amuse me, yet, and while his voice isn't great he has a blandly pleasant tone that doesn't have me diving under the couch to retrieve the remote. For some reason this didn't sound extremely off pitch like it did to everyone else, but it may have been in pitch with itself but off the right pitch. I can only do relative so if everything is all the same off, it sounds fine to me.

Didi--Song lyrics work well with the ##### faces she throws. With her voice, not so much. I think she sang a bit better than Tim, but he amused me enough to keep him above this,

Casey--Gosh I never thought of Huey Lewis as a really good singer before. Halfway through this, Huey seems like a freakin' vocal genius. Good thing he is cute, because I don't get all the excessive praise about how great his voice is. Maybe it is because I don't hear with my eyes very much

Aaron--Jellyfish swim on the big screen. I wish they were stinging me. Nice deadly jellyfish, save me from this moment, forever. If I sway like the swaybots will it make my ears stop bleeding? This didn't sound on pitch to me and I don't particularly like the tone of his voice that much. But he does have that want to pick him up and carry him around cuteness

Andrew--Oh the hand signals in case we don't get the lyrics. And some squats every so often as an added bonus. Hide him behind a guitar again, please, maybe behind the stage

Paige--Starts sitting on the steps and seems to be searching at random for the key. Don't they look at what not to sing. No one does well with this song.

They key doesn't come to her as she walks around the stage, either.I think this will bring down the WNTS average for this song and it is only 39.5 to start with.

If there is anything the nonconformist hates worse than a conformist, it's another nonconformist who doesn't conform to the prevailing standard of nonconformity. - Bill Vaughan

5. "RE: No Geekboy Love List this week?"
Last night, it felt like I had been blindfolded, abducted, and taken to a casino lounge off, off, far off the Las Vegas strip. What a huge trainwreck. Causalities noted in my Love Hate list below:

1.) Siobhan Magnus - Her worst performance so far? The scream at the end was totally unnecessary. Still head and shoulders above the others.

2.) Crystal Bowersox - I'm really glad Crystal sped up the last third of the song because I almost had dozed off by that point. Still, those last thirty seconds were my favorite thirty seconds from her to date.

3.) Michael Lynche - Good vocals and even a relatively sedate performance for a change. Could see the song choice coming from a mile away though. Sorta loungey.

4.) Casey James - Nice peformance, but Casey seems really limited in what he can do vocally. Moderately loungey.

5.) Didi Benami - I thought vocally it was sung relatively well, but just a bizarre song choice overall. Extremely loungey.

6.) Katie Stevens - Her best song to date. It came across as largely copycat though, and she still seems stiff and unnatural on stage.

7.) Lee DeWyze - When it was bad, Lee came across just as confused and disoriented as usual. When it was good, it came across like a subpar Wayne Newton performance. I'm still trying to decide whether I prefered the good or the bad.

8.) Aaron Kelly - I like the emotion he's pouring into his songs, but I'd like to see it more honed and focused. Vocally, it wasn't up to snuff thanks to the laryntonsilitis.

9.) Tim Urban - I'm with Snidget. Tim is so comically bad (and seems to know it) that he's one of the most consistently entertaining parts of the show. He needs to kept around a while longer.

10.) Andrew Garcia - Whoa, Miley Cyrus actually gave half decent advice when she advised Andrew to ditch the guitar - it had become a protective blanket for him. It was nice to see him move around and try to get into the song. Unfortunately, it also became immediately apparent why he had been holding on to the blanky for dear life. Comparitively, it just wasn't good. Bad even.

11.) Paige Miles - Worst performance ever by a contestant in the Top Twelve? There may have been worse (there had to have been worse?!?), but I'm failing to remember any right at this particular moment in time. Someone help me?

Camille from season 3 butchered "Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road" in such brutal fashion that I can not hear that song without thinking of her singing it, sounding like she was trying to pass a kidney stone while being stabbed in the chest with a hot poker.

Last night's horror show also brought memories of that performance back to EW Michael Slezak -- and in the name of spreading the agony, he linked to it.

11. "RE: No Geekboy Love List this week?"
1 - Bowersox (obviously)
2 - Siobhan: I do want her to stop with the scream at the end though. No need to do that every week. She has a great voice, and is super entertaining - making the scream the last thing that people hear probably isn't smart.
3 - Lee: I liked seeing him do something different this week. Not that I particularly love the style of music he chose, but nice to see that he can hold his own without doing the same type of song each week. (Also, someone mentioned that he chose that song as a tribute to the original artist (?) that passed away about a week ago... not sure if this is true, and can't find the article again to look it up, but that might explain it).
. . . . . .
4 - Aaron, Casey and Michael are all fine, didn't really get excited about any of them.
. . . . . .
7 - Didi - because she was better than the ones below her. I like Didi, but that song was a poor choice.
. . . . . .
8 - Tim - at least he was entertaining! I've always thought he looks like Zac Efron, so was entertained to hear the comparison. (I also think Aaron looks like Haley Joel Osment). That being said... :/
9 - Paige - it wasn't good, but overall she's better than the two below her.
10 - Katie - did NOT understand what all the praise was about. I hated every minute of that performance.
11 - Andrew - no more, please. Please please please go home. Simon is absolutely right... he's overrated.

This is a terrible season. Aside from Bowersox, no one's consistently good, or doing something new that is catching people's eye. Usually by this time, there will be a few clear favorites, or at least a few serious contenders to win. This year it changes each week. Didi and Aaron are the best examples - they move from best to worst almost weekly. It's like no one has earned a consistent fan base.

12. "RE: No Geekboy Love List this week?"
LAST EDITED ON 03-24-10 AT 02:02 PM (EST)

I only saw snippets of last night's show and if I muster up the courage to go back and watch (got to see if there is any pimpage...but then again I'll read the ECST first so that maybe I don't have to watch) then maybe I'll add some more comments.

Paige--horrible. At least the judges admitted it. A friend asked me what's wrong with her, said it seemed like she was going through a divorce or something unrelated to being in the comp.

Andrew--come on. You let Miley Cyrus tell you what to do? Oh my.

Katie--improved but we have had so much better on AI. Sigh, is she to be the growth story? The judges seemed to be starting to get on the Katie wagon, ex Simon, of course.

And ten seconds each:

Lee--sounded boring; I know you can do better than this!

Michael--sounded karaoke, but maybe it was just the part I caught

Didi--sounded the same as others she's done and over enunciated again

Casey--that's what you chose? At least you have a winning smile.

Aaron--didn't even listen

Siobhan-- caught a couple of secs of the screamy part. Really? Screamy again?

Tim--didn't hear this one either

And then there's Crystal, thank goodness for Crystal! I love that she used the carpet to warm up the cold stage. She knows who she is and is finding ways of showing us, despite the AI trappings. This one I'll go back and watch.

Overall there where 4 or 5 I liked but none were great.

1 - Chrystal - Good but not as great as they made it out and she is beginning to sound the same every week.

2 - Katie - She is starting to improve each week

3 - Siobhan - Again, like everything but the unnecessary screams at the end. She is my pick to win but I am getting annoyed with the screams in EVERY song.

4 - Lee - Thought he did well but he is not choosing the song types that I want to hear.

5 - Casey - Thought it was ok but at least he is trying to rock, noone else is.

6 - Aaron - He also seems to be improving but must he always do a ballad? Ala Archeletta

7 - Andrew - Not very good but not as bad as made out and there were much worse. I don't expect him to last more than 2 more weeks.

8 - Michael - Sorry I just don't see the talent and he bores me every time

9 - Didi - Not very good, she is so inconsistent.

10 - Tim - His voice is as average as I've ever seen on the show. He annoys me and needs to go

11 - Paige - How did she get this far? That was the worst performance I've ever seen on the show. She is gone tonight!

14. "Holding back?"
Does anyone think that Casey, Crystal, possibly Lee, even Siobhan....are holding back a bit and will be busting out more at the top 10? And did I just type the last 4 names that will perform on top 10 night? (no particular order but isn't it Casey's turn for the pimp spot?).

Crystal hinted at something "more" next week and Casey looked like "yeah, yeah, we all know I can do WAYYYYYY more but you told me to bring it on over time, so just wait..."

Holding back? Crystal, Casey, Lee (dude has two albums out already + videos, gimmeabreak!), & Siobhan (she knows how to control her screams....so why is she being screamy?)

Doing what they can to raise their game: Katie, Michael

Trying to hang in: Aaron, Tim, Andrew, Didi (could be on the trying to raise their game line, though, if song choice improves)

No longer trying: Paige

15. "RE: No Geekboy Love List this week?"
1. Crystal. She's good. She knows it, but she's pretty humble. I'm interested to see what big surprise she has planned. I tend to like her style of music, the gritty folk rock chick thing, so I'm inclined to like her.

2. Katie. She's improving, and I think she has a shot at a Katherine McPhee type of growth and transformation. I thought the song was sort of mediocre, but I thought she did find her style.

3. Aaron. I was a little surprised that I put him this high, but I have to say, I thought he did well. Also, compared to other 16 year old (or is he 17?) nerdboys that AI has cast, he's probably the best. He's a lot better than John Stevens or chickenboy (whose name I forget.) I find him more likeable than David Archuletta (by a lot.)

4. Siobhan. She was good. I do like her voice. I didn't like the screaming - it was too harsh. She sounds okay doing it, yes, and it's clear she has fun with the screaming, but I wouldn't listen to that again. I had a hard time getting over her odd hair.

5. Casey. It was fine. It sounded exactly like Huey Lewis and it wasn't that interesting, and he seemed glued to the spot while singing. I know he was trying to make eye contact with the audience, but it wasn't sincere. He was looking at the audience like he was nervous that they were going to steal his stuff, not like he was "connecting" with them.

6. Michael. Yeah, yeah, it sounded fine, but I can't watch this guy. He's made for radio, as far as I'm concerned. He makes weird faces and too much strange jerking around.

7. Lee. Meh. Too slow. He looks too concerned. Or constipated. Or unsure of himself. Not a comfortable performance.

8. Didi. Also Meh. Too campy. She was doing weird stuff with her mouth and making a really ugly face during the "you're no good" lines, in an attempt to connect with the lyrics, I guess. But if you'd have taken a still camera photo of her while she was making that face. . . not pretty.

9. Tim. I like Tim, I admit it. That performance was the silliest thing, and I secretly wanted him to fly off the stage when he did the slide (I don't want him to get hurt, it just would have been good TV.) I hope VFTW keeps him in it. He's a lovable mess. He's Peter Brady and he just needs a pointy collared shirt and an opportunity to sing "When It's Time to Change." Sha na na na na na na na na, Sha na na na NA!

10. Andrew. Minus the guitar, it was abundantly clear that he has no idea what to do with his hands while performing. They way he'd periodically jab at the air with one finger pointed, or slash across in an angry accusatory sort of "YOU took the last donut!" manner was just awful. Did anyone notice that the camera quickly cut to the back up dancers when he started his little jiggly-legs dance? We barely saw the dance. I laughed out loud, and commented to Mr. Fro that the camera man had seen the dress rehearsal and KNEW to cut away from the dance because it would be so awful. Oh Andrew, so sad, you're a one trick pony and you're on the conveyor belt to the glue factory.

11. Paige. I felt badly for her, because she knew she was a giant sucking vortex and all she could do was hang on til the end. She didn't even believe it when she uttered the party line about how she had fun up there. Sica (I think it was sica!) said it beautifully in the ECST when she said that watching Paige sing was like watching a cute animal die.

My rankings, as follows:

1. Crystal Bowersox -- a really cool performance! The best of the night.

2. Siobhan Magnus -- I've seen better from her, but she's still one of the Top 2.

3. Michael Lynch -- the best of the guys. And I like this song.

4. Katie Stevens -- this was her best performance yet. Maybe she does better on this stage.

5. Aaron Kelly -- not my favorite song but he did a fine job with it despite having laryngitis.

Gap --

6. Casey James -- I like the song but it wasn't the greatest choice for him.

7. Lee DeWyze -- a little unusual choice but at least he tried to put in some personality.

8. Didi Benami -- no, it wasn't good. But it was better than the ones that I put at the bottom.

Big gap --

9. Andrew Garcia -- I think he's lost his way since the start of the semi-finals. That's happened since Season 4, at least.

10. Tim Urban -- cheesy and just plain bad. But he might squeak through -- though I hope not.

11. Paige Miles -- oh dear. This was just plain bad. She should go home, sad to say.

I guess I picked a good week to NOT watch live. What a dreadful week. I did make another posting tonight, though. Please take a look.
