"MSN Polls tracking"
LAST EDITED ON 03-09-06 AT 10:33 AM (EST)

This thread is to track MSN polls on Idol. If there are other polls out there, please add!

If you don't want to know how MSN readers are viewing Idol, do not read further.

Certainly their polls are not scientific because they are not demographically balanced research polls. And, we do not know whether MSN voters mirror the Idol voters. Well, not yet that is. Maybe by tracking we'll determine whether the MSN polls are a leading indicator.

1. "AOL poll"
Last year the AOL polls were fairly close to what America voted most of the time.

http://television.aol.com/americanidol/poll?ncid=AOLETV00150000000001

The rankings so far this week They only give the % for the top 6

Men

Chris 23%
Taylor 20%
Ace 15%
Elliot 15%
Bucky 9%
Gedeon 7%

Last week AOL bottom 2 men went home

Woman

Kellie 21%
Marissa 18%
Katherine 18%
Lisa 12%
Ayla 12%
Paris 11%

Woman last week bottom two were Kinnik and Brenna but Heather went home (but I think heather polled badly on the AOL poll, but I don't recall how that went)

2. "RE: MSN Polls tracking"
Well, the polls were misleading this week. Ayla and Gedeon were the polling surprises.

The guys:

MSN polls suggested Kevin and Will would go--being the top two in the "who should go" poll and the bottom two in the favorite idol poll.

Likewise, in the AOL poll, they were in the bottom two.

These polls only correctly predicted Will's departure.

Why did Kevin survive? The teen voters/texters versus the viewers voting in an internet poll? Or did it have anything to do with Simon's comments? He dissed both Kevin and Will and was not encouraging to Gedeon, either.

The girls:

I did not start the MSA tracking until after the guy sang; and the AOL poll predicted only one bootee correctly: Kinnick.

It showed Ayla with 12%, more support than Paris and Melissa was not in the top six.

Why did Melissa make it over Ayla? Was this one of those times when the actual night's performance counted versus ongoing fan base?
