Well, if I were one of the contestants booted from the show, I would certainly be cruising these sites to see what the viewers had thought about the show and more importantly about myself I have a feeling Kathryn and other staffers must also check these sites to see if people caught their clues or not (homework for next time). Perhaps ABC staff comes here to monitor the viewers as well (marketing research...). So as the last episode approaches: 1. What would you like to say to your favorite contestant? 2. What would you like to say to your least favorite contestant? 3. What would you like to say to AC? 4. What would you like to say to the crew that worked on the clues? 5. To my favorite contestant, Darwin: Great job!!! I think you very strategically played the game, with your many alliances, and your good-natured attitude towards the game. 2. To the crew that worked on the clues: I final episode airs the day after tomorrow, so I'm not sure if all the clues that were discussed on the boards are real or not, but you definetly are keeping us guessing on the identity of the Mole. 5. To ABC: I have a feeling several people are going to say the same thing I am going to say: The Mole is awesome! Al is just too competitive and he is not fooling anyone in the game. 2. What would you like to say to your least favorite contestant? Don't have one. Well, maybe Patrick. I can imagine that he can be really annoying to be with in the game. "What is your strategy? What is your strategy?....." 3. What would you like to say to AC? Please come back for Mole3. 4. What would you like to say to the crew that worked on the clues? As long as Bill is not the mole and the crew can justify why, I would think they have done a great job. Otherwise, they shouldn't use clues that can only be interpreted by slowing down video tapes or video capture. That's getting old. 5. What would you like to say to ABC? Mole3. and Marketing. Also, please let viewers participate in the game as well. I think ABC should let viewers take the quiz at the end of each show. By the end of the season, ABC show release the viewers' and the contestants' scores. I think it would be fun to found out that 50% of the viewers would have been executed before Bob in episode one. I would also be interested to found out how the contestant did in the quiz too. I understand that there are many questions that viewers cannot answer at home because of ABC's editing, but viewers also have the advantage of having a VCR and internet access at home. LAST EDITED ON 08-07-02 AT 05:19 AM (EST) Now that the show is over, I am ready to respond to your great questions. 1. What would you like to say to your favorite contestant? Dorothy--You pulled through like a champ. I was so happy that you were the winner. You played a great game, using both your strengths and weaknesses to create suspicion with the other players. You did get very lucky (I can't believe you would have been executed if Elavia didn't take the bribe!), but you were always in the right place at the right time. Congratulations, you deserve it! 2. What would you like to say to your least favorite contestant? I can't really label anyone as the "least favorite". Just a general comment to the people who didn't try to create suspicion for themselves (Myra, Al, Katie)--you missed the boat! You increase your chances immeasurably if you keep yourself from being crossed off of everyone else's suspect list. 3. What would you like to say to AC? Anderson--your sly taunts are the best! You really add so much to the show, and I hope you'll be around for another round. 4. What would you like to say to the crew that worked on the clues? (This could take some time...) Don't underestimate your audience! The show is popular for two different groups of watchers--those that watch casually week to week, and those that LOVE to delve deep into the deceptions and hidden clues that are going on in the show (these are your hardcore fans). The clues were aimed at a much lower level of intelligence than I would have liked (as an obsessive viewer who loves puzzles). The worst clues were the blatant ones from the opening credits in the later Eps--don't just tell us the answer! At least add a level of puzzle solving to it--you had to know that SOMEONE was going to find those "clues" and lay it all out there for the rest of us. Don't underestimate the dedication of your obsessive fans--at least give us something to think about. And try for more variety--Two Pisces clues? Two Boat clues? Two opening credits clues? Try not to repeat yourselves, and again...add some level of intelligence to the clue finding (the first Pisces clue was good--and no one here caught onto it--but you turned around and GAVE us the same clue in the next episode...not very clever!). And then there are the really dumb clues. The dollar Bills, MickeyD's, the Boats in Anderson's Fun House...so obvious that most of your obsessive fans discounted them as being too blatant, although they were definitely caught by us (even as we tried to shrug them off and hoped for better). You CAN do better. The William Shakespeare references were okay...but again they didn't go beyond superficial references, why not bring a real reference for such a famous writer into the clues?--What a lost opportunity! There are a lot of good references in Shakespeare's plays that could have been explored, but you guys never tried to challenge our intelligence beyond "Shakespeare was a scoundrel". The only clue that seems like it was truly worthy was the Telegram clue--but that was quickly deciphered by some of your dedicated fans (and subsequently distributed throughout the Message Boards). You have to realize--if that Telegram Clue could be easily deciphered and discussed on the Message Board, you have grossly underestimated the intelligence of your hardcore audience. And FINALLY--I think you would do well to plant some red herrings to try to throw us off. I think that some well-placed (and slightly obvious) clues for other players would help throw us off track, and stimulate even more debate amongst your dedicated fans (and increase interest). I hoped right up to the last minute that this was the case ("come on, they are THROWING Bill at us as the Mole!--Surely they wouldn't insult our intelligence with such blatant clues!"), but in the end...you proved that you underestimated your hardcore fans. And I have to say, my intelligence HAS been insulted. I know that people complained about the clues after the first Mole (I didn't watch it, so I don't know much about it)...but the lesson to be learned here is that the hardcore fans want something to sink our teeth into. We don't want obscure clues like "the Mole has four letters--and the Mole was seated in the 4th seat!", but we also don't want to be told "Bill is the Mole". Neither of these clues challenge our intelligence. I know you work with MENSA--but you have to realize that this show is one that appeals to people who are or could be members of MENSA. We want to be teased with clues that seem to jump out at us, yet dangle tantalizingly out of our grasp. I admit, it isn't an easy thing to accomplish. But the clues for The Mole 2 were definitely not anywhere near the level that is needed to keep us guessing. I can only hope you can rise to the challenge in the next series. (And there had better be another series--don't think that we are done with you yet!). 5. What would you like to say to ABC? Oh man, you have a show that has such potential, but it hasn't reached it's potential yet. The elements are all there, and you have a large fan base that LOVES what the show represents. I think The Mole has the potential to be the smartest Reality TV show out there (as it has claimed)...but it hasn't found it's stride yet. I hope that it's strong showing this summer is reason enough to pursue it...because I think it has potential to grow an even broader audience. My words of advice--don't underestimate your audience, and try not to bury it with poor advertising or against competition that is too strong (as a Reality TV addict, I have to tell you it has been quite a juggle watching both The Mole 2 and American Idol this summer--thank God my boyfriend has a VCR! I work evenings, so it hasn't been easy.) And for GOD'S SAKE--bring back The Mole for another season! ABC definitely needs to plant more red herrings to throw its viewers off. There is no fun being spoon fed by the producer. That just takes the fun away from the game. The problem with Mole2 is that there were way too many clues pointing at Bill and not enough to Dorothy and Heather. Overall, I think the ABC crew did a good job. Unforturnately, the hardcore fans on this bulletin board makes finding the mole so much easier. I didn't watch Mole1 until half way into the season, but I remember the games are more fun and more team oriented than Mole2. Correct me if I am wrong. I would like to say to Lisa that if you're still vending at Comiskey Park, I'll definitely look you up and buy a beer or two from ya! Last time I was in town, I went to a Sox game and bought a brewski from a vendor who knows who you are, but didn't see you at the game that day (July 28 vs. KC), so maybe next time! 2. No least-favorites here 3. Anderson, you da MAN!!! Due to my graveyard shift work schedule, I usually catch you on CNN before I call it an evening. Here's hoping there's more MOLE in your (and our) future!!! 4. I think Bill did a fine job as The Mole, and the clues were handled quite well. I don't use the freeze-frame/stop-action on my VCR to analyze the clues, so as a casual observer I thought these were great! I was also glad to see Kathryn make a cameo appearance and hope that both she AND Bill can pool their Mole experiences together for the next season. 5. To ABC: MOLE 3 (then MOLE 4, 5, 6, and so on). Also some sage words of wisdom to ensure success for The Mole: Get out there and PROMOTE it!!! And while the midweek time slot seems to work for the show, a better lead-in program wouldn't hurt ("According To Jim" is a mediocre sitcom at best). Take a lesson from NBC... they seem to have the scheduling thing down to a science! Well Al, I didn't like the way you treated Katie--it made you come off as the playground bully. However, you did have to sit through a whole evening of Tiny Bubble Torture, even though the game was already lost (karma?), so I forgive you. 3. What would you like to say to AC? You did a great job spicing up each episode with your unique personality. I still think the dimply Survivor guy is cuter 4. What would you like to say to the crew that worked on the clues? From what I can tell looking at the Mole 1 summaries, this season's clues were better than last's. However, I think your audience has changed. The code-cracking Moleron has become very savvy. Lettering that reads "Bill is the Mole" in your transition screens is just too easy for us to find. More work needs to be done at making these types of clues less obvious. Perhaps throwing in a couple red herrings to throw the Molerons of track would be a good idea. A clue like "courtesy of McD's" is just perfect in difficulty level for the casual viewer but blatantly obvious to the hard-core fan. It WILL be difficult to accomodate both types of viewers... but what a challenging goal--I'm sure you can do it! 5. What would you like to say to ABC? Some of the more obvious were obviously for slow mo frame watching junkies, but hell, i wouldn't come to this website if i didn't want to know what those guys thought. I am all for Red Herrings next year. We should have two hidden clues a game. One clue that tells us who the mole is and one clue by the mole to distract us, then it would be up to us to figure out which is the valid clue. >5. What would you like to >say to ABC?
