It will be tough.
It will be rough.
I pledge not to peek,
but I am so weak.

Who else is going spoiler free this season? It's going to crash my game scores but at least I'll have an excuse for it.

I always try to stay spoiler free. Once in a while I read something I wish I hadn't, but.... last year I read a few spoilers and it took a bit of the excitement out of it for me.

So, I'll join you. Are we gonna crawl down a hole & hide?

To be honest I have only managed to watch the first couple of episodes of Survivor for the past couple of seasons, however now that the nasty little troll has gone I may try again.

Following the season on spoilers was very interesting, however I remember the year that the entire TAR order was leaked, and it did make the season a lot less enjoyable for me, so no spoiling for me this season if I manage to watch!

Unless my family talks me into it, I don't plan on watching this Survivor season. I didn't watch the second half of last season, and I can honestly say I didn't miss the show at all. Guess that means I'm officially burnt out on Survivor.

I'm not quite at this stage, but I can feel the echoes of it. After two seasons of being told RussHell was the greatest reality creation since the pointless twist, I just don't care about seeing what lie EPMB wants to force-feed me next. As of this moment, I won't be watching the premiere. I'm not saying I'll never come back in, and I may follow the ECSTs -- I just don't think they've done anything to get my trust back.

Me, I've been Spoiler-free for years. I did peek a couple of times back in the day, but found either

1) the spoiler was bogus

or

2) I rather be surprised

So, welcome to the light side!

10. "Spoiler Free Game?"
I have been thinking about running a Spoiler free PTTE game for several seasons now.

PTTE is a boot list game. Predict the order of Survivors kicked out of the game.

It could be a one list. (Predict the entire season by 1st or 2nd show)

It could be run like the regular game with points for list changes, a few free edits and other stuff.

I could do it through PM's

Maybe the Blue Peeps would allow the game to be in this forum.

Any ideas?

So true michel but I think we're honest enough to go ahead and do it. I think I would like to watch the first one or two episodes to get a feel for editing and all.

It's sort of like the Seinfeld episode The Contest.

"You caved?!"
"It's over!?!"
"You're out?!?"
"Oh my God, the Queen is dead!"
"I figured you'd cruise, at least through the spring..."
- George and Jerry, reacting with shock at the news that Elaine has dropped out of "The Contest"

So, can we do this and be the Master of our Domains? Doing a one list after the first episode seems good to me.

I'm going spoiler and game free this season. Although I would consider doing kircon's spoiler free PTTE. I don't trust you all though, so I would just post and not be back until the season's over with.

I miss the days of analyzing pics and edits and trying to spoil. Anymore it's handed to you on a silver platter and all the fun is taken out of it.

But I still enjoy watching Survivor and am looking forward to this season.

I still enjoy the speculations and deductions based on previews, and the little things that the producers let slip. But I'll try and keep away from outright spoilers.

Problem for me is when spoilers are referred to in non-spoiler threads, usually innocently and sometimes inadvertently, or by newer posters who are survivor enthusiasts but don't understand that there are people out here that don't want to know the outcome before the episode airs.

What can you do? One applauds enthusiasm and wants to welcome new posters. So you just have to accept that others think differently than you do, and that you will be exposed to spoiler once in a while.

I agree with your position, however that is not what we are saying. Sure if we happen to get spoiled inadvertantly and we all know it will happen from time to time, that is innocent and annoying but mostly innocent.

What we are addressing is the out right search for before hand knowledge to this seasons Survivor. I host a game on the Survivor Games Forum Threads, and last year close to the middle of the game, I had been told a number of time about the Spoiler Sites, and what to expect in future situations. Because I have been made aware of this fact, I have changed a great deal of my game to make it even more speculative and not ask questions easily found by any website. This makes it fairer for all.

Some of us have or want to go back to the days when these sites did not exist and allowed for the suspence and drama. When you konw too much information too soon, its like reading a book, and then watching the made for tv movie. It loses appeal because you know whats going to happen before it does and when the script does not match the spoiler given its disappointing when we are made fools.

I agree that these newbies that forget themselves have a place on the message board, and that without new views and ideas the show just loses its appeal.

However, once again, the rest of us are taking this season cold turkey, and vowing not to purposely search for information, but rather enjoy the show the way it is intended.

I hope you all can do this b/c in my opinion, it is a lot more fun watching the show. It's kinda like going to the movies to see "The Passion of the Christ" or that one about the group of people on the plane on 9/11. The movies were good, etc. But there was a feeling of let down because you already know how it's gonna play out. What's the point of life if you know what's gonna happen next, right?

Hope ya'll have fun. and thanks to all you hosts out there who start these threads and games. i have enjoyed them all and ya'll are great. I love the debates!

STAY SPOILER FREE, PEOPLE!!!

ARW, spoiler sites have always existed. This site started with the express purpose to spoil survivor. Borneo had "black Gretchen" "X Gervase" and "uncle camerman". Tina was spoiled as the winner by Tapewatcher who, around merge time, made a great post that Tina had to win because she was the "dog that didn't bark", the only player without a confessional in episode #1. The same Tapewatcher hit another homerun in Africa where he noticed "The Star of David". On numerous occasion the sun was shown looking like the star of David just before Ethan came on screen.

Those were fun spoilers, based on observation which I enjoyed. But, starting in Marquesas, inside spoiling began. Snewser had an inside source and he revealed the name of the bootee before each episode. He revealed the winner before the finale. Snewser did the same for the next 5 seasons or so.

ChillOne wrote a book on spoiling after stumbling on the Amazon location soon after filming had ended and he got a description of the last players standing from locals who had helped filming. He had many facts right. ChillOne hit again in Panama where he told us that a Pilot would go on an immunity run and would be F4 with a black nurse, a girl with Blonde hilights and a tall man.

Then we had mersaydeez, Toot of Time, TrueDorkTimes among others who all had boot list written up before the end of the season. The last 3 seasons have been spoiled by missyae who doesn't have Snewser's restraint, that's for sure. Those who give all the information before the season even starts are the ones that I can't stand. It has been tought to stay spoiler free.

The problem is that CBS often spoils the show itself. Episode #1 had Wendy and Jimmy as boot options so why show Jimmy covered in mud during the intros? There were no mud challenges in episode #1 so it was easy to conclude that Jimmy was safe for at least one episode.

"But, starting in Marquesas, inside spoiling began."

Inside spoiling started in season one. People back then were more judicious with their release of information and therefore didn't ruin the fun of speculative spoiling. It's just in the last few years that it's gotten so completely out of hand with people handing out the entire bootlist before the first episode even airs.

And that's why I am spoiler free again this season. I like to speculate but it's not fun to speculate with people who already know the boot! So now I just watch. Good season so far.

______

There is a very large assumption here that I have to question. There is absolutely no proof that Tapewatcher wasn't someone with full knowledge of the winner -- who then was able to see very clearly how Tina was "not barking" at the beginning of S2, and the same with Ethan.

I personally think that Tapewatcher was spoiled, and was thus able to publish a brilliant theory that was correct -- twice. Although the Africa theory was stretched to the bone.

You may notice that Tapewatcher is not a person who still posts or ever posted by that name in the Survivor community. Never wondered why he or she never conversed as a "person" and just faded away after two such successful speculations?

Maybe but there is no proof that he knew either. As for the disappearing act maybe he was one of the 20 million or so viewers that quit watching the show around that time or maybe he didn't see Vee winning and then got bored to death by Thailand. He wouldn't be the only one!!

Anyway, Tapewatcher is part of Survivor folklore: True or not, (and we'll never know either way) it makes a great story.
Yeah, he should have quit with the Star of David pointed to Ethan, the nice Jewish man, as winner. All that crap about Kelly was too much but the fact remains he twice pointed to an editing trick that revealed the winner.

What was more important was that Tapewatcher never said he knew so, even if you read his posts, you weren't so much spoiled as intrigued. Source spoilers say they know and give answers. For me, there's no fun in that.

That's fine, I'm just saying that for all you know, Tapewatcher was just having some fun. It's almost unknown for a speculator to make a pick with such certainty, so early in the season, with so little editing precedent -- in fact no precedent that supported the theory.

>>> What was more important was that Tapewatcher never said he knew so, even if you read his posts, you weren't so much spoiled as intrigued.

Not necessarily. I was sure he was right about Ethan. Besides which, Ethan was an obvious winner from almost the beginning. I know I never thought anyone else had a shot at winning.

>>> Source spoilers say they know and give answers.

Not true. Only SOME source spoilers announce that they know. Others just post their source spoilers as if it's an opinion. I'm not talking about people like me who read source spoilers, but rather about some people with direct sources.

Isn't there a contradiction in these two statements? If you knew Ethan was the winner it's because you saw something in his edit despite so little editing precedent. Tapewatcher posted the Tina theory aftert the merge when she had reached a position that made her absence in episode #1 weird.

Well, for something you call untrue, I'd say it's true often enough:
- Snewser's weekly updates
- TDT's survivometers
- Chillone's intel
- Mersaydeez's boot list in Palau
- Tooth of Time spoiling Danni as winner
All these, and many more that I simply don't remember, weren't presenting opinions. Missyae, with the abundance of details in the last 3 seasons, certainly isn't giving opinions.

Well yes, those are SOME spoilers who are being very clear. There are other people who pretty clearly know stuff and just interject something like one line into the conversation, and it's right. And there are other people who present riddles, and those who have good info but do hoaxes, some point out "swirls" -- so my point is there could certainly be someone with answers who revealed them in the guise of a literary type analysis. Not all source spoilers choose the same outlet. Just because Tapewatcher didn't announce himself as a Survivor insider doesn't mean he wasn't spoiled.

>>> Isn't there a contradiction in these two statements? If you knew Ethan was the winner it's because you saw something in his edit despite so little editing precedent.

No, and I hate arguing when my statements are twisted around; it's too much work. I said that Tina's edit of confirmation by absence lacked precedent. I didn't say Ethan's lacked precedent or that it was difficult to read; his edit was striking from the first episode. I don't actually believe that the editors did all that to make him into a Christ figure. I think that Tapewatcher had a literary background and in Ethan's case he put together a nice "paper" that stretched a lot of evidence to present an ultimate conclusion that was true.

By the time Tapewatcher published the Tina theory, even I thought she won, and I was only a fledgling spoiler. I was playing that Survivor stock game and I had tons of Tina stock because I believed she would win ever since the "let the games begin" comment.

That said, I would never have put myself out there on either one of those prospective winners without considering the possible variables if I didn't have that little thing called confirmation. Tapewatcher was 2-2, writing with certainty, without any alt guesses, and I find that unlikely. But we'll probably never know.

The earliest copy I've seen of TW's post was mid-April, which was after the Amber boot. AyaK had posted Notes From a Mitchell Appearance by the third week of March, and suddenly a number of people picked up on Tina/Colby and the Tina win, all without Tapewatcher's help. TW's essay was nice work, but it's easier to be analyze the edit and be right when there's so much hindsight and knowledge already out there.

Sorry if I twisted your words before, that wasn't my intention so I'll be careful but these two sentences are interesting in that, from a liar who HAD to have received inside information, Tapewatcher is really an insignificant poster with a good pen. Insignificant in the sense that he didn't say anything even a "fledgling spoiler" already knew.

I do not understand why you are putting Tapewatcher on trial after 9 years and especially why you think I'm his defense attorney. All I was doing was giving ARW, a friendly new poster, a brief history, a glimpse really, of past spoilers.

I should have simply given this link:

http://survivorsucks.yuku.com/forum/viewtopic/id/1113

Thanks for the link to Mitchell's interview and Ayak's take on it. I always thought that was one of the best spoiling ever even if it didn't make the Sucks list. I'm glad new posters can read it.

After all this progress, maybe this is the end.

The funny thing about ChillOne's "intel" was that although he presented everything as absolute fact, you always had to take his intel and then figure out what was wrong and needed to be changed about it to get the correct story.

We were able to figure out from the S6 previews that he was already going to be wrong about the Ep 1 boot. But he kept insisting he was right! His F4 intel was wrong as well. In S12 there was the supposed animosity between Danielle and Terry that we kept waiting to see and that never materialized. And there was plenty of other stuff that was off the mark.

Well, she did vote him out and that was the only reason for Danielle to be cast as a villain in S20. C1 must have felt vindicated!

I kind of liked the way Snewser eventually went about it, how he used to wait until the day of the show to reveal his pick (or maybe the day before?), so we'd all get a good shake at trying to figure out the answer. Then we'd hear the "right answer" later from him.

Well, usually. I recall the boards going crazy when he picked Heidi to go home instead of Christy in S6. But that was some of the fun.

We? Who is we?

And where was it spelled out "What we were addressing"?

But I think we're all in agreement.

Regardless, it's a personal decision for each of us, not a morality play, and those of us who are spoilers or who like to read spoilers add to the richness of the discussions too. I would hope that they would show a little discretion and consideration for those of us who wish to not read spoiling info. But one of the original reasons for this forum (I'm told by the ghosts of those who went before us) was to talk about Survivor, and to find spoilers...so it's a long honored practice that I have no wish to limit or critisize.

Actually, I can admit to being a hypocrite in this, I first found this forum when I searched for Survivor spoilers, way back when.

And lately we don't just get the bootlist, we get everything that's going to happen along the way, who's going to win which challenge, who takes who on reward, who finds the immunity idol and does or doesn't use it, etc. So there ends up being virtually nothing to figure out.

I like having a few outside spoilers, but I agree it's just too much now. I've been following Krautboy's thread on missyae's latest pronouncements, but I feel kind of apathetic about it.

Agreed, I like some spoilers, but I don't like everything spoiled.

I also prefer the "look what I discovered" like when there is a betting spoiler or someone catches a shot of people at the airport (for TAR) to someone in production told one person every thing.

I like some mystery so even if I know the finalists early on that "I wonder how the heck those people made it" makes it interesting to watch the show. I watch differently knowing vs not knowing, but as long as there is some "how will this unfold" I find it fun.

Someone proving they have every single detail just makes it less fun for me. Although I did get the popcorn out when one of the AI spoilers that was excessively accurate for awhile suddenly had a run of really bad intel. Oh.The.Drama.

Generally check out the board rules/descriptions. Most of the time there is some designated area for spoilers or way people should mark that there is a spoiler (or hidden text, etc.)

People don't always play by the rules, but usually you can avoid spoilers if you go to places with some sort of ruling about them.

Sometimes spoilers will appear (and usually quickly disappear) from things like wikipedia. Sometimes they are real spoilers, sometimes just random. Network run sites tend to be spoiler free, but even they will occasionally have a slip up.

45. "Another agreement"
Agree 100% with this.

I read the spoilers a lot during the earlier days of bootlists, during the Amazon to Palau seasons. After awhile, I found that my family was enjoying the episodes much more than me. They were talking about, "I can't believe Ulong keeps losing!" and I was thinking, "Well, yeah, I've known that for awhile". I felt like I was missing out on the surprise factor of the outcome, which is a huge part of watching any game show.

It also makes the whole concept of having a Spoiler Section pretty pointless, in my opinion. If you're handed the bootlist, what's really the point of doing the vidcap and editing analysis? It seems kind of pointless to bother if you already know the answers in advance.

Premise: Hey, look, Laura's edit is really going downhill!
Conclusion: Oh, well that's because she "might" be picked off by Russell later and we need to feel good about it happening.

We could come to the conclusion that maybe Laura's the Final 2 Goat instead, but the prior knowledge makes presenting that theory pointless. I know some people in those threads don't read the bootlist spoilers (and God bless them for continuing on)... But I'm always concerned when reading that kind of thread that the people who have read spoilers are just "posting the right answers" (like in the Laura example). Maybe people don't do that, but I'm always too worried that they do.

Actually, Laura's edit was always bad so it never went downhill!

>We could come to the conclusion
>that maybe Laura's the Final
>2 Goat instead, but the
>prior knowledge makes presenting that
>theory pointless.

If I may explain why that option wasn't considered: Laura was completely linked to Shambo, a player that certainly didn't have a winning edit. Laura had to lose her battle to Shambo but it couldn't be as F2 goat or else Shambo wins.

>I know
>some people in those threads
>don't read the bootlist spoilers

I assure you that I have no idea what is going on this season. Last year, I was spoiled by a post concerning Survivors appearing on the People's Choice awards and someone saying: the 5 people who spoke are all Final 6. When I posted in the editing thread, I made it perfectly clear I knew that and that I would be looking at stories and themes.

ETA: I do worry that the people responding to my analysis know more than what's been shown but what can you do?

ALL OF YOU, SAY IT WITH ME:

I, (Insert name) will not look at the spoilers. I will not take a peek. I WANT to be surprised when I watch the show on CBS. I know other people out there have firsthand knowledge. I do NOT need to be one of those people. My life will not end if I am not in the know!

Ya'll can do it! Have some faith - enjoy the few surprises CBS has to offer.

LAST EDITED ON 09-20-10 AT 07:13 PM (EST)

Maybe the Laura example wasn't the best one. My main point is that when you have an edit that could lead to a few different possibilities, the bootlists answer those questions for me.

ETA: I do worry that the people responding to my analysis know more than what's been shown but what can you do?

That's the thing, there's really nothing you can do since the information is so readily available. And maybe everyone who posts in that thread don't read the bootlists... Maybe this is me being too paranoid about the internet. Good for them if they don't. It's just the fact that one small leak can ruin the whole thing for you (like the People's Choice example above), so I feel safer avoiding that forum all together.

It's hard to tell who's guessing and who's not.

You can be sure that I will be looking at voting "picks" after each episode to see if those arguing with me in the editing thread are also on the missyae bandwagon! I'll simply won't read their posts after that.

The fun is back. Last night made me remember that Survivor is fun to watch. Early in the episode I would have bet that Nay was going to leave - then I swung to Brenda (like editing wanted me too) and I stuck with Brenda even thru tribal council and Shannon showing his aras. I was doing the happy dance on the sofa when Shannon got the boot. And you know - if I'd read spoilers I would have been "meh".

Yay! I've been warned to not read Jeff's blog comments as spoiler lists have been posted there too. I think I'll go back and read Jeff's blog AFTER the finale.

I've been hesitant to read Jeff's blog or anyone else
for that matter. It was much more fun to watch Shannon self destruct not knowing what was coming.

There are no spoilers in the "Jeff Probst says..." thread (unless you consider his assessments of the contestants spoilers). I suspect that will remain the case, though there's always a chance someone might connect something he says to some outside spoiler. But if you just click on the blog link and don't read any of the posts you should be fine.

Good point, Jeff wouldn't want to kill the suspense would he? I think as a spoiler-free noob I'm overly cautious too.

I am walking a very fine line between spoiling the show week-by-week and not finding out who makes it to the end. Wish me luck, lol!

With Jeff's blog, in the comments that are posted to the blog, I have seen people come in and randomly post spoilers (like boot lists and F3) in the last two seasons. I haven't had time to look at the comments this time, but anyhow I assume that's what the spoiler warnings are about.

I find that Jeff does a good job of pointing out who is playing a winning game. He is not like Mark Burnett. He doesn't care that much about the mystery. Sometimes he says whether the winner is likable, or surprising. You never know what he will say.

It's interesting reading this topic. It's the opposite for me. I'd probably have given up on Survivor if not for spoiling it. I like to see how many of the details were what I thought they would be. Keeps me from being so frustrated at the stupid casting.

To each their own though!

I've gone from spoiler free to deciding to go Survivor free. The previews show the NaOnka show is about to restart and after a week of thinking about it I have decided I have zero desire to watch any more of her.

I stopped watching All Star TAR when Romber was eliminated because I had no desire to watch the cousins - what ever their names were.

If the rumors about S22 are true, I might find myself broken of the Survivor habit. It's been a fun run, but it might be time to move on ... but then, it might not. We'll see.

It's a great group of posters here at Blows...

carry on.

Two seasons back to back of the Russell Show about did me in, it was only having some assurance that their 007 supervillain was going to in the end get pushed out the airlock to suck wind in the vacuum of space that kept me going. I do not know how the NaOnka Show will end but it is clear she just went on Survivor to be a camera whore and, you know, just look how well Jerri's acting career took off after Oz.

TAR has been pretty good this season, they cast a bunch of people that are genuinely having fun. Not everyone, of course, but even the no-fun ones are nowhere near as outrageous and horrible as Jonathan or annoying as Charla and Mirna. Mirna annoyed me the most, I never did quite catch onto Mirnaspeak.

This a thread people who are spoiler free might be interested in. There are no spoilers in it - it's a discussion about what to do about the divide between people who use source spoilers and those who don't.

So glad I wasn't spoiled. I would have been in a bad mood all day yesterday. At this point I'm hoping Fabio goes on an Immunity run and wins the whole thing.

If I had not of decided to go spoiler free this season I think I would have stopped watching by now. Not knowing who is going is the only excitement of the show. And the pleasure I get from watching Brenda and Marty's expressions during tribal.
