"The Amazing Race Winners' Edition, Episode 9: This Could Be The Difference Between First & Last!"
Okay, here's the next chapter:

Phil (voice-over): Previously on The Amazing Race, six former winning teams left Granada, Spain and travelled all the way to Athens, Greece. Once there, teams had to take part in a wind-related Roadblock. (We see Uchenna singing "Everyone Knows It's Windy".) Then, teams made their way to Panathinaiko Stadium, where they either took part in the 100-meter dash (we see Megan & Cheyne racing down the track) or the long jump (we see Tyler attempting the long jump). In the end, Kisha & Jen won the leg and a trip to Cluj-Napoca, Romania; while taxi troubles and a bad Detour choice knocked Tyler & James out. Five teams remain, who will be eliminated next?

We see the montage of teams before hearing Phil again.

Phil: This is Athens. The capital of Greece, it was once a vital city-state in ancient Greece. And in the heart of the modern city, the National Garden of Athens. This beautiful location was the eighth Pit Stop in a race around the world. Teams arrived here at the end of the last leg for a mandatory rest period. Kisha & Jen, who were the first to arrive, will depart at 3:05 am.

We see Kisha & Jen hug before opening their envelope.

Jen: "Fly to KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA!"

Phil (voice-over): Teams must now head to the airport and fly all the way to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Once there, teams must make their way to Thean Hou Temple in the neighborhood of Brickfields. One of the largest and most ornate Chinese temples, it is here that teams will find their next clue.

Kisha: Let's go to the airport, then.

As the sisters get into their car, we hear their confessionals.

Jen: We're happy to have won another leg.

Kisha: And we hope to continue doing well.

They get a taxi to the airport. Three minutes later, we see the next team on the mat.

Nat: "Fly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!"

Kat: We've never been there, Natty!

Nat (confessional): We're the only team to be consistently near the front of the pack.

Kat (confessional): However, this makes us threats and we might face a U-Turn real soon!

They get a taxi and are on their way to the airport as well. At 3:12, we see the next team on the mat.

Megan: "You have $250 for this leg of the race."

Cheyne: We're going to Kuala Lumpur! Let's go!

Megan (confessional): We need to be at the front of the pack.

Cheyne (confessional): There might be a U-Turn coming our way.

Three minutes after they leave, we see the next team on the mat.

Tammy: "Fly to Kuala Lumpur."

Victor: Let's get going, sis!

Tammy (confessional): We need to be near the front of the pack.

Victor (confessional): If there's a U-Turn, we'll be using it!

Meanwhile, on the way to the airport:

First Taxi Driver: Uh-oh. I'm running low on gas.

Megan: We should've made sure our taxi had plenty of gas!

Cheyne: This could be the difference between first & last!

And finally, four minutes after Tammy & Victor left, the last team is standing on the mat.

Joyce: "Fly to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia."

Uchenna: Let's go to the airport, then.

Joyce (confessional): We're in the back of the pack. That's not good for us.

Uchenna (confessional): We need to get near the front of the pack pretty soon.

We cut to the airport, where Kisha & Jen arrive and begin hitting the phones. Soon:

Jen: So, our best bet is a British Airways flight that departs at 8:15 am.

Kisha: Then we transfer to a BMI flight in London that arrives at 7:25 tomorrow.

Jen: And we got tickets on that flight!

Kisha: We're good to go now, sis!

We then see Nat & Kat on the phones at the airport.

Nat: We can get two tickets on the British Airways flight that leaves at 8:15?

Kat: And then transfer in London to a BMI flight that arrives at 7:25 tomorrow.

Nat: You got the tickets for us?

Kat: Thank you. We're okay now!

Finally, we see a third team arrive at the airport and hit the phones. Soon:

Tammy: We got the last tickets on the first flight!

Victor: I'm really happy about that. We'll be fine!

We then see Megan & Cheyne at the airport and they find out the bad news:

Megan: We can't get on the first flight to arrive at Kuala Lumpur, Cheyne.

Cheyne: Our best bet seems to be an Alitalia flight that leaves at 6:55 am.

Megan: Then we transfer in Rome before arriving at 7:35 tomorrow morning.

Cheyne: We got on the last flight thanks to a taxi that needed some gas!

We then see Uchenna & Joyce arrive and:

Uchenna: We're on a flight that leaves at 6:55 am.

Joyce: Then we arrive at 7:35 am tomorrow morning.

As 6:55 am arrives, we see Megan & Cheyne and Uchenna & Joyce board the first flight, with Uchenna & Joyce doing confessionals.

Joyce: At least, we'll only be 10 minutes behind.

Uchenna: I really wish we were on the first flight.

At 8:15 the other three teams board the first flight, with Tammy & Victor doing confessionals.

Tammy: We're happy that we're on the first flight.

Victor: But the others are only 10 minutes behind!

Both flights depart at the regular time.

Phil (voice-over): All teams are now on their way to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

Okay, I've done the first part of the episode. Comments on it so far will be welcome!

I only regret that we have no one left who's likely to violate any local morals clause. (At least, not on purpose.)

This is going to be old home week for Cahaya... and since a lot of the locals generally watch and love the series, this would be where the teams could reasonably expect some help from the natives. Whether they ask for it or not. Oh, and beware of cell cameras.

Yeah, I doubt any of the teams left will intentionally violate any local morals clause.

And speaking of Cahaya, maybe I should mention to her about my little story/game. In fact, I'll do just that.

Hah! I've been lurking in here off and on, but haven't gotten involved in this due to all of the other things I've got going on.

I've been to Thean Hou Temple, along with a colleague where I worked who went (and I presume still goes) there.

I'll be curious where in Kuala Lumpur (and/or elsewhere in Malaysia) you'll have these teams go and what they do.

Well, after the Petronas Twin Towers I'll take the teams to the National Monument, the Lake Gardens for a Detour and finally the Sri Mahamariamman Temple. However, it's a TBC leg and the teams will be heading to Singapore next time.

9. "RE: The Amazing Race Winners' Edition, Episode 9: This Could Be The Difference Between First & Last!"
The National Monument gets surprisingly few visitors, although it has an interesting history in and of itself. Lake Gardens is frequently a crowded place, particularly during evenings and weekends. You'll find a lot of cart hawkers there selling snacks, drinks, and ice cream. The Sri Mahamariamman Temple is an amazing sight to look at, with its intricate and colorful artwork, in a very busy area in KL adjacent to the downtown Chinatown district. I taught computer courses at a technical institute just next door to it.

I also have a brother-in-law who lives in Singapore and I did quite a few projects stints there for SingTel. It's an amazingly clean city (fines for littering are strictly enforced) with a lot to do in terms of shopping and entertainment. There's not much left of the old Singapore, though, with a lot of it torn down for high-rise development, particularly housing. Although more tourist/expat friendly in a way (with English widely spoken, even more than than Malaysia), it doesn't have quite the charm Malaysia does.

3. "RE: The Amazing Race Winners' Edition, Episode 9: This Could Be The Difference Between First & Last!"
Okay. Here is the next part:

We see the first plane arrive on time. The three teams rush out and through the airport.

Kisha: Hurry, Jen!

Jen: I'm hurrying!

Kat: Hurry, Natty!

Nat: I'm hurrying!

Victor: COME ON, SIS! COME ON!

Tammy: You don't have to shout.

They all get tickets on the express train that'll head to KL Sentral before heading down to the first level to catch the train. As they wait, we see the next plane arrive and the two teams on it scramble out.

Uchenna: Hurry, Joyce!

Joyce: I'm a-hurrying!

Megan: Damn! We were at the back of the plane!

Cheyne: We really must catch the express train.

Both teams get their tickets as well and rush to the escalator, which takes them down to the first level. But as they're doing so, the train arrives at 7:45 am. Kisha & Jen, Nat & Kat and Tammy & Victor board it. It pulls away just as Megan & Cheyne reach the entrance to the train station.

Megan: Damn! We missed the train!

Cheyne: Now we're 15 minutes behind!

As the two teams board the second train, we hear Uchenna & Joyce do a confessional.

Joyce: At least we're with Megan & Cheyne.

Uchenna: We don't want to fall way behind.

The second train departs at 8 am with both teams on board. At 8:13 am, the first train arrives at KL Sentral station and the teams rush to get taxis.

Kisha: Take us to Thean Hou Temple.

Jen: As fast as you possibly can!

Nat: Thean Hou Temple, please.

Kat: As fast as possible, sir.

Tammy: We need to go to Thean Hou Temple.

Victor: We're in a race, so please hurry!

The taxis take off and all go in the same direction. However:

Nat: We're catching up to Kisha & Jen!

Kisha: Don't let them pass us!

Kat: We did it! We passed the sisters!

Victor: PASS KISHA & JEN!

Jen: Damn! We're in third now!

Tammy: We got past them!

Nat & Kat and Tammy & Victor arrived at the Thean Hou temple, followed closely by Kisha & Jen. They rush inside, where they find the clue box.

Nat: "Take the train to PETRONAS TWIN TOWERS!"

Phil (voice-over): Teams must now return to KL Sentral station and take the train to Petronas Twin Towers, which is located at KLCC station. Once they reach the towers, they must take the elevator up to the Skybridge connecting the towers, where they will find their next clue.

The doctors spot a monk and approach him just as Tammy & Victor read their clue.

Tammy: We're going to the Petronas Twin Towers!

Victor: Let's go over to that monk over there.

Kat: Which train takes us to the twin towers?

Monk: You need to go to the KL Sentral Rapid KL Station and then take the train to KLCC.

Kisha & Jen arrive at this point.

Jen: "Take the train to Petronas Twin Towers."

Kisha: The others are leaving. Let's follow.

So all three teams return to their taxis and go on their way. At 8:28 am, we see the next team arrive at KL Sentral and the two teams disembark and grab taxis.

Megan: Take us to Thean Hou Temple, please.

Cheyne: And hurry, please! We're in a race!

Joyce: We need to go to Thean Hou Temple.

Uchenna: As fast as you can possibly go.

The teams are driving to Thean Hou Temple as we see the first three teams arrive at the KL Sentral Rapid KL Station and get tickets on the next train to KLCC. At 8:36 all three teams board the train and two minutes later, we see the last two teams arrive at Thean Hou Temple, where they find the clue box.

Megan: "Take the train to Petronas Twin Towers."

Joyce: We need to find out which train.

Cheyne: Do you know which train we should take?

Monk: Yeah. Head to the KL Sentral Rapid KL Station and take the next train to KLCC station.

Uchenna: Thanks a lot. Let's go then!

They return to their taxis and are soon on their way. Eight minutes later, Megan & Cheyne and Uchenna & Joyce are getting tickets on the next train to KLCC -- just as we see the first train arrive at KLCC station. All three teams rush out and grab taxis, which take them to the towers in four minutes. They then take the elevator to the Skybridge, where they find the clue box.

Jen: Roadblock! "Who wants to look down?"

Phil: In this Roadblock, one person from each team will head to an escape exit, get strapped into a cord, receive an envelope, and rappel all the way down to the bottom of the towers while their partner returns to the bottom via escalator. Once both teammates are at the bottom, they can learn their next clue.

As Kisha & Jen do rock-paper-scissors, we see Megan & Cheyne and Uchenna & Joyce boarding a train at KL Sentral Rapid KL Station before cutting back to the towers.

Nat: Roadblock! You're doing this one.

Kat: Yeah. I think it involves heights.

Tammy: It's a Roadblock!

Victor: I'll do it, sis!

Kisha: Paper covers rock! You're doing it!

Kat, Victor and Jen all head to the escape entrance while Kisha, Nat and Tammy all head to the elevator to take the trip down.

Kat: I'll bet Nat's glad not to be doing this!

Victor: She's afraid of heights? (Kat nods.)

Jen: Well, I'm glad I'm doing this.

As the non-Roadblock teammates are waiting for the elevator:

Nat: I'm glad I'm not doing this one!

Tammy: You must hate heights then.

Kisha: Well, Jen will do just fine.

On the bridge we see Kat, Victor and Jen receiving their clue envelopes, then getting strapped in.

Worker: Ready ... set ... GO!

*****************************************************************

Okay, I'm stopping this part here. Comments will be appreciated -- including snarky ones!

5. "RE: The Amazing Race Winners' Edition, Episode 9: This Could Be The Difference Between First & Last!"
LAST EDITED ON 06-22-11 AT 03:10 AM (EST)

Brings back old memories! I've taken the KL Sentral/Airport express before, with my house (we still own) just two blocks from one of the lines branching eastwards out to Ampang. The train line maps are posted at every station, so it's easy to find your way around on them. Cheap, too, at about $1.00 or less one way to almost any destination.

I have a brother-in-law and sister-in-law who work in Petronas Towers. Petronas usually doesn't leave the skywalk open to the public, but you can easily get escorted there if you know someone working there. It's quite a dizzying drop all the way down from the skywalk, which is fully enclosed in panes. I'd guess for this roadblock that they open up one of the panes for them to go down. Definitely a task that anyone with a fear of heights would want to avoid. I swear when I was up there, I felt it swaying just a tiny bit... either it is part of the functional design with the winds swaying the structures, or it was me doing the swaying!

And the elevators are fast!

Well, the cheap train fare will certainly help with the budget for the teams!

Yeah, they probably opened up the panes for Jen, Kat and Victor to go down. As for the fear of heights thing, if you have a mild to moderate fear you might be able to handle it. If you have a severe fear (like Nat does), it's best to avoid it.

8. "RE: The Amazing Race Winners' Edition, Episode 9: This Could Be The Difference Between First & Last!"
Okay, here is the third part:

We see Kat and Victor start rappelling down towards the ground, with Jen right on their tail. At the same time, we see the elevator open on the ground floor of one of the towers and Kisha, Nat and Tammy rush out. They head towards the area between the two towers, just below the bridge. Kat and Victor are in a dead heat for first, with Jen right behind.

Nat: I sure hope Kat doesn't get dizzy coming down!

Tammy: I hope Victor doesn't get dizzy either!

Kisha: I guess that rock-paper-scissors game cost us some time.

We cut to the KLCC station. Megan & Cheyne and Uchenna & Joyce rush out of the train and through the train station. Once they are outside, both teams hail taxis.

Megan: The Petronas Twin Towers!

Cheyne: As fast as possible, sir.

Joyce: We need to go to the Petronas Twin Towers.

Uchenna: Get us there as fast as you possibly can.

Meanwhile, we cut back to the Petronas Twin Towers. Kat, Victor and Jen are all nearing the bottom, where their anxious partners await them. Finally, Kat and Victor reach the bottom, where a thrilled Nat and Tammy hug them as Jen joins them. Nat & Kat and Tammy & Victor open their clue envelopes as Kisha joins Jen.

Kat: "Now head on over to the National Monument."

Phil (voice-over): Teams must now go to the National Monument in the City Center district. This immense bronze structure was built as a memorial to the soldiers who gave up their lives for their country, and it is here that teams will find their next clue. Teams must get there by train.

Victor: "You must get there by train." Okay.

Meanwhile, Jen reads the clue.

Jen: "Now head on over to the National Monument." By train.

The teams return to the train station as we see Megan & Cheyne and Uchenna & Joyce arrive at the twin towers. They take the elevator up and go to the Skybridge.

Megan: Roadblock!

Cheyne: I'll do it.

Uchenna: Roadblock. It's my turn.

Joyce: Yeah. I did the last one.

As Cheyne and Uchenna prepare to go through a glass pane and Joyce and Megan head back to the elevator, we see the first three teams racing to the train station.

Nat: I'm so glad I didn't do that task!

Kat: Yeah, you couldn't have handled it.

Tammy: Could I have handled that task?

Victor: Maybe, but I was better with it.

Kisha: Well, at least we're doing well.

Jen: Let's hope the others stay behind.

We see Cheyne and Uchenna outside the glass-enclosed bridge. They get their clue envelopes attached to the strap and begin the trip down. Cheyne quickly takes the lead, with Uchenna trailing. At the same time, Joyce and Megan arrive on the ground floor and head outside to join their partners.

Joyce: That's quite a trip down!

Megan: It's not for those who're scared of heights.

We see Cheyne and Uchenna continuing their trip down as we cut to the KLCC train station, where Kisha & Jen, Nat & Kat and Tammy & Victor all get tickets on the train to Masjid Jamek Rapid KL Station. As they board the first train there, we cut back to the Petronas Twin Towers, where Cheyne has just gotten to the bottom, where he happily rejoins Megan before they open their clue envelope.

Cheyne: "Now head on over to the National Monument."

As they head back to their taxi, we see Uchenna reach the bottom where Joyce happily joins him. They too read the route info.

Uchenna: Back to the train station.

We see them follow Megan & Cheyne to the train station, get tickets on the next train to the Masjid Jamek Rapid KL Station and board the train for the trip. Some time later, we see the first train arrive at the Masjid Jamek Rapid KL Station. Kisha & Jen, Nat & Kat and Tammy & Victor rush through the train station and grab taxis outside.

Jen: The National Monument.

Kisha: And please hurry!

Nat: We're going to the National Monument, sir.

Kat: Get us there as fast as possible, please.

Victor: We need to go to the National Monument.

Tammy: We need to get there as fast as possible.

The three taxis rush off. As the taxis all get onto Jalan Parliamen:

Nat: We're catching up to Kisha & Jen!

Kisha: DON'T LET THEM PASS US!

Kat: We'll pay you more if you pass them.

Nat & Kat's taxi passes Kisha & Jen's. Then:

Victor: PASS KISHA & JEN!

Jen: Damnit! They passed us!

Tammy: We're now second!

All three taxis arrive at the National Monument at about the same time. The three teams inside quickly find the clue box right at the base of the statue.

Nat: "Make your way to the Lake Gardens."

Phil (voice-over): Teams must now make their way to the Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens, 91.6 hectares of fascinating gardens holding exotic flowers around a large artificial lake. It is here that teams will find their next clue.

Tammy: Let's see if our driver knows where it is.

Kat: The Lake Gardens should be pretty!

Victor: Here come Kisha & Jen. Let's hurry now!

Jen: "Make your way to the Lake Gardens."

Kisha: Let's hope our driver recognizes it.

Soon all three taxis are on their way. Meanwhile, we cut to the Masjid Jamek train station, where Megan & Cheyne and Uchenna & Joyce have just disembarked and are racing through the train station to get taxis outside.

Megan: The National Monument.

Cheyne: Please hurry there!

Joyce: We're heading to the National Monument.

Uchenna: We'd appreciate it if you hurried there.

We then cut to the Lake Gardens area, where all three taxis have arrived. They soon find the clue box and all grab envelopes.

Nat: Detour! Birds or Butterflies?

Phil: In this Detour, teams have to choose between two things that can be done in the Lake Gardens. The choice: Birds or Butterflies. In Birds, teams head over to the Bird Park, get binoculars, and try to identify three types of birds in Zones 1, 2, and 3 by means of bird calls. Once a team has located all three types of birds, the keeper will give them their next clue. In Butterflies, teams will go to the Butterfly Park and try to net three different butterflies. Once a team has netted three butterflies, the butterfly keeper will give them their next clue.

Kat: I think Birds would be easier.

Tammy: I think Butterflies would be too hard.

Victor: I'd agree. We're doing Birds instead.

Jen: We can rush around chasing Butterflies?

Kisha: Yeah. We're doing Butterflies, sis.

All three teams urge their drivers to wait and rush off to their respective Detour destinations.

*****************************************************************

Okay, I'm having the teams begin the Detour option. I want you to decide whether Tammy & Victor should win this leg or if you think either Kisha & Jen or Nat & Kat should win for a third time. I'll take votes until tomorrow night and the team with the most votes will win the leg -- even though it's a TBC leg.

I'll say Kisha & Jen. I think Victor's going to do Butterflies and wind up having a series of Spongebob moments: swinging so hard he sends himself into the ground, swinging in the wrong direction and netting his sister, somehow managing to get the net around himself...

(Butterfly landing on net-covered nose optional.)

We have a majority on the votes, so I'll post the results:

Nat & Kat and Tammy & Victor jog off to the Bird Park while Kisha & Jen jog off to the Butterflies Park. As they do so, we cut back to the National Monument, where Megan & Cheyne have arrived and have found the clue box.

Megan: "Make your way to the Lake Gardens."

Cheyne: Let's hope that our driver knows it.

Their driver seems to know where it is, and as the taxi departs Uchenna & Joyce arrive.

Joyce: "Make your way to the Lake Gardens."

Uchenna: Let's take our taxi there, honey.

We then cut over to the Butterfly Park, where Kisha & Jen have arrived. A park keeper gives them the photos of the butterflies they are supposed to catch. As the sisters head out to find the butterflies, we cut to the Bird Park, where Nat & Kat and Tammy & Victor have arrived at the park entrance and greet a park guide, who gives them binoculars as well as whistles that will call the Golden-Breasted Starling, the endangered Moluccan Cocaktoo and the Purple Swamphen. They also get a checklist which they can use to mark off the birds they found.

Nat & Kat and Tammy & Victor head to the Hornbill Park, which is first on their list, and Nat and Victor try calling the Purple Swamphen while Kat & Tammy look through their binoculars.

Tammy: I think I just saw one!

She points to a bird. Nat & Victor try calling it, and the bird replies, much to their delight.

Victor: One down, two to go.

As they head on to the World of Parrots to find the Moluccan Cockatoo, we cut back to the Butterfly Park, where we see Kisha & Jen trying to catch a butterfly that is on their list.

Kisha: Yes! We got one!

They catch the butterfly and set it free as we cut back to the Bird Park, where Nat & Kat and Tammy & Victor have arrived at the World of Parrots. As they're looking around:

Kat: Is that a Moluccan Cockatoo?

She points to a bird in one of the cages. Nat calls it -- and it responds!

Nat: Two down and only one to go!

We then cut back to the Butterfly Park, where Kisha & Jen are trying to catch another butterfly. They are having a hard time but in the end:

Jen: Only one more to go!

They catch the second butterfly and set it free as we cut back to the Bird Park, where the two teams have arrived at the Oriental Birds Aviary looking for the Golden Breasted Starling.

Tammy: I think that's our bird, guys!

She points to a bird with a golden breast. Victor tries calling it -- and it responds! Both teams cheer as the bird keeper hands over two clue envelopes.

Nat: "Make your way to the next Pit Stop!"

Victor: "The Sri Mahamariamman Temple!"

Phil (voice-over): Teams must now make their way to the Sri Mahamariamman Temple. This elaborate Hindu temple, which is the starting point for the annual pilgrimage to the Batu Caves, is the Pit Stop for this leg of the race.

Kat: We did it by working together, guys!

They rush out of the park and back towards their taxis as we see Kisha & Jen finally net the third butterfly and receive their next clue.

Jen: "Make your way to the next Pit Stop."

Kisha: "The Sri Mahamariamman Temple."

The sisters rush out of the butterfly park and head back to their taxi. We see first Tammy & Victor and Nat & Kat get into their taxis, followed by Kisha & Jen. As they leave, they pass by two more taxis. The two taxis arrive at Lake Gardens and both teams find the clue box.

Megan: Detour! Birds or Butterflies?

Cheyne: Birds might be better, dear.

Joyce: Butterflies sounds too hard.

Uchenna: I agree. Let's do Birds.

The two teams jog off to find the Bird Park, with Megan & Cheyne taking the early lead over Uchenna & Joyce. We then cut back to the taxis.

Tammy: Our taxi driver's great!

Victor: Yeah! He's so awesome!

Nat: We don't need to finish first this leg.

Kat: Yeah, we're perfectly safe -- this leg.

Kisha: We did well, sis.

Jen: I agree there, sis.

Finally, we see the exterior of Sri Mahamariamman Temple.

Tammy: There it is!

Victor: Let's RUN!

Nat: I see the temple.

Kat: Just about there.

Jen: There's the temple!

Kisha: Let's hurry, sis.

We follow a team as they rush out of a taxi and follow marked signs to a mat where Phil and a native greeter stand. The team lands on the mat.

Native Greeter: Welcome to Malaysia!

Tammy: Thank you.

Phil: Tammy & Victor, you are the first team to arrive! (Tammy & Victor cheer and hug.) And I have some good news for you. As the first place team, you have won $1,000 each! And you'll receive the money after the end of the race. However, this leg is not over yet.

Victor: Oh great.

Phil: Here is your next clue.

*****************************************************************

Okay, Tammy & Victor have arrived first but it's a TBC leg. Now I want you to vote on whether Megan & Cheyne or Uchenna & Joyce will come in last. I'll take votes until tonight and the team with the most votes will come in last -- only to be told that they're still racing and will be going to Singapore.

LAST EDITED ON 06-24-11 AT 07:03 PM (EST)

Okay, we have a majority of votes here as well, and Megan & Cheyne will come in last at the beginning of the next episode. For now, however, here are the latest goings-on at Elimination Station:

At the Birkenhead Manor Guest House, it is morning and we see B.J. & Tyler, Chris & Alex, Nick & Starr, Rob & Brennan and TK & Rachel all sitting in the lounge after a nice breakfast.

Rob: So what's the itinerary for today?

B.J.: I think we're going to the Castle of Good Hope.

TK: And we're booked for a carriage ride at 2:45!

Alex: We also have a tour at 11 am.

Nick: And then we're having lunch in the castle.

We see that it's 10 am. At 10:30, the five teams walk out of the guest house, get into private cars and drive down to the Castle of Good Hope to begin the tour. A guide greets the five teams eagerly.

Guide: Welcome to the Castle of Good Hope. I hope you enjoy your tour of the place.

Chris: We hope to enjoy it as well.

Guide: We'll begin with the William Fehr Collection. William Fehr was a Cape Town businessman who was born in 1892 and died in 1968. He first loaned our collection of oil paintings, furniture, ceramics, metal and glassware for public exhibition at the Castle in 1952. In 1964, the South African government purchased the collection. The next year Fehr donated his collection of artworks on paper. The objects in the William Fehr Collection date from the 17th to the 19th centuries and reflect the furnishings of well-to-do, mainly Cape, urban households. One of the remarkable aspects of the collection is the large number of oil paintings that portray views of the Cape colonial settlement and Table Bay maritime scenes.

All the teams wander around looking at the various items in the collection.

Brennan: These items are just incredible!

Guide: Though these art works reflect a colonial worldview, they are also fascinating reflections of life at the Cape and the people –- free and otherwise –- who lived and worked here in earlier centuries. Now if you'll follow me, we'll go to the other exhibition. The William Fehr one is ongoing, but this exhibition is only here for a short time.

He leads them all away from the collection and towards another one. It is now 11:30 am.

Guide: This is an exhibition on New Year Carnival at Cape Town. This exhibition by the Iziko Social History Collections department showcases a part of history and culture unique to Cape Town and South Africa. It focuses on how Carnival participation has been passed on from generation to generation, while tracing the Carnival’s roots and its transformation over the centuries. A striking case study of how social life, politics, identity, popular culture, ritual and negotiating day-to-day life all come together can be found in the celebration of carnival and in the performances of the Malay choirs, Christmas bands and klopse troupes. The significance of Carnival as celebration, as well as the context of changing expressions of identity is highlighted.

The teams wander around this collection as well.

Starr: This is a really unique experience!

Guide: It's supposed to be.

Finally, the tour concludes and the teams all go to the restaurant inside the Castle to have some lunch.

Tyler: We have over two hours to kill after lunch, guys.

Rachel: Why don't we just relax in a park until 2:30?

They all agree, so they go to a nearby park and just relax for the time being.

Rob: I wonder which team will be out next.

Brennan: I'd say Uchenna & Joyce is next.

TK: Unless a Double U-Turn is coming up.

Rachel: Yeah. Nobody will U-Turn them.

Nick: Yeah. The stronger teams are the ones who should worry.

Starr: And in that case, I think Megan & Cheyne are in danger.

B.J.: I think Kisha & Jen should also worry.

Tyler: Yeah, they're a real athletic team.

Chris: Normally, I wouldn't worry about Nat & Kat.

Alex: But they've always been at or near the front.

The teams continue discussing who might be in danger before they return to the castle for the carriage ride. Outside the castle we see five carriages waiting for them as they each get inside one. Then a guide gets into a sixth carriage and begins the process of riding around the castle. All five teams look just amazed as they look at the exterior of the castle.

Once the ride is over, we see the five teams return to the guest house, where they relax around the pool before they all head in to dress for dinner at a nearby restaurant.

Okay, that is the latest goings-on at Elimination Station. BTW, some of the info I gave came from the website on the Castle of Good Hope -- specifically, the stuff about the collections. Tomorrow, I'll be writing the next episode.
