"Not so smart Congressman from Louisiana"
I found this blurb in the Richmond Times Dispatch and immediately cut it out for the refrigerator.

"NEW ORLEANS--A Louisiana congressman apologized after coming under fire from Arab-Americans for saying anyone with "a diaper on his head" should be stopped and questioned. Republican Rep. John Cooksey, who is planning to run for Senate next year, made the comment Monday in a radio interview broadcast statewide".

Thanks, Goldie, this goes with the statements by Falwell and Robertson in the file named "Intollerable Statements of Intollerance." Am I the only one who noticed that Muhammad Ali went to ground zero to inspire the rescuers, and that he was on the telethon last Friday despite the fact that his Parkinson's made his participation minimal, and that he is a Muslim American who went to jail in this country rather than violate his pacifist religious beliefs.

Yes, even us pacifists can stand up and support our country while holding onto our beliefs, and I fully expect in spite of that we will become someone's target for intollerance before all this is done.

Nice find, Goldie... these types of incidents need to continue to be publicized to get the message across that we must focus on those who are criminals and not paint an entire community or ethnicity with the same brush.

Dabo, wasn't Muhammad Ali on the Friday telethon as well? I didn't notice he was there at Ground Zero. I can think of no finer example of using someone's name to publicize the good in Muslims than Ali's because so many people revere him regardless of his beliefs.
