"WHAT A FINAL EPISODE!!!"
The editing is still bad, but what a great Gauntlet!!! Naming the events after fallen Recruits! Coddington's Course, Lauder's Last Stand, Haar's Heartbreak.... And what excellent events they are! Time improvements vs. pure winning.. that's a good equalizer.

They should've told Wolf & Whitlow before they started that they'd be running Coddington's Course again. Other than that, I was very pleased with this outstanding show! Unlike the finale of Temptation Island, this finale is being a real winner!

We finally understand why Whitlow didn't vote to oust Wolf... she's had an alliance with him since early on!!! It might cost her $400,000, but she stuck with it. Recruit BLUSAVANA, I'm impressed with your Whitlow's integrity.

Let's hope next week continues this excellent Gauntlet!

1. "RE: WHAT A FINAL EPISODE!!!"
Best improvement is never fair.

If they told them before the event, they would have try to be as sloppy as possible in order to get a better improvement.

They told them after which is still unfair for the leader of the race. He gave 100% while Whitlow probably slowed down thinking that she had no chance to win.
Now all she need to do is climb the wooden wall faster and she wins. While Wolf has to become superman in order to improve over his already excellent performance.

They should have make it fair. If girls think they're too weak, they should stay home and stop whining about equality.

> Time improvements vs. pure winning.. that's a good equalizer.

Couldn't disagree more... it's a double standard.

If Whitlow wins it, Wolf should sue because he'll win.

If an 'equalizer' is required then should female recruits win less money than male recruits?

A better equalizer would be to create a balance in the type of events (ie: mental vs. physical) not to reward incompetence or laziness displayed earlier in the show.

Don't misunderstand me... I hate Wolf, but changing the rules in mid-stream is simply a producers tactic to control the result to make a close finish. It is fundamentally wrong.

I said it was a good EQUALIZER, not the right thing to do!!! There IS a difference, IC...

I still thought the challenges in the Gauntlet are pretty good.

I agree with you IC. I also hate Wolf, but I found myself feeling sorry for the guy after that race. He busted his ass in that challenge, and I see no reason why he will even come close to beating his old time now, they are dead. That is definitely a ploy that the producers had to make it closer. I am not sure who will win, but I think right now that Wolf deserves it far more. But he may not due to the fact that little things like this are brought in to "equalize" the odds. Does not seem fair to me.

The episode was certainly fun to watch, though, I will absolutely admit that.

First of all, wasn't it called Coddington's Crossing? I could be wrong...

My favourite was Park's Peak. It was the perfect mix between physical and mental...

I also liked that dryer question from Moretti's Memory. Those D.I.s are tricky folks...

>>>Time improvements vs. pure winning.. that's a good equalizer.<<<

I agree, that was a good idea.

>>>They should've told Wolf & Whitlow before they started that they'd be running Coddington's Course again.<<<

I don't think so...gives them incentive to screw up.

Can't wait for next week's episode...especially with the thing where they have those loops and they have to stick their hands through...

Nitpick, nitpick, nitpick. Yes, officially they called it "Coddington's Crossing" but I heard several of them say "Coddington's Course" at one time or another...

I'm glad they didn't tell Wolf and Whitlow about the rules of Coddington's Crossing beforehand. It was worth it just to see the look on smug little Wolf's face when he found out. I laughed out loud. Plus he probably slowed down some too near the end when he realized how far ahead of Whitlow he was. I also think that Whitlow may not have any energy left by the time they redo it. She is fading faster than Wolf.

Everytime they showed the voting recruits I kept thinking they would probably vote opposite of what they are saying. This show always wants us to think one way and they do a switch. So if one says they hate Wolf, they will probably vote for him.

I totally agree with this. The editors are about to screw it up again. Fortunately for us, they can only screw it up one more time. I hope the producers will hire some better editing talent for the next boot camp... if there IS a next boot camp....

14. "As to the horrid editing!"
I'm surprised that that isn't a major topic of conversation since the last episode of Boot Camp. Yes, the Gaunlet is fairly impressive...but what is making me utterly despise this show is its poor editing.

In Survivor, we spend a fair portion of our time attempting to determine who will be kicked off in each show...and, though we are incorrect at times, the events in the show do explain why that person was ejected. We can feel justified if we were right, or wrong, in our predictions. They do edit a fair amount out of the episodes, yes, to keep a slight element of surprise leading up to the final vote, but never have I been completely lost as to their selection. They always provided hints of things to come.

As for Boot Camp, I think I have been utterly confused for a substantial amount of time as to their selections, and that definitely detracts from the game. If Whitlow and Wolf were aligned since the beginning, they should have at least hinted towards it, and shown us some scenes of it, just so that it could explain their actions. Why would they keep it a secret from us? If working from the beginning, it wouldn't have been a 'spoiler' as to the final 2, because it showed Meyer and Thomson at the beginning as well being aligned! It would, in fact, have given us more insight as to how they played the game to achieve the top goal together. Choosing to completely eliminate this alliance from the editing was a big mistake. Can you imagine what Survivor watchers would have done had they chosen NOT to show the Alliance of Rich, Rudy, Sue and Kelly? It would have destroyed the show, because the casual viewer would have had NO clue as to why Gretchen et all were being eliminated so easily.

No, I don't think the show is rigged. I think that is more Survivor Dawgs forte. But I do think it suffers from horrid editing, and, if there is a second boot camp, they definitely need to improve on this. We need to know WHY people are getting kicked out! And show us what is really going on, instead of selectively editing out semi alliances.

15. "RE: As to the horrid editing!"
tonedef I agree with you. If this show wants an audience for a second series (if there is one) they need to make the audience feel part of the process. We feel completely left out and confused by the way they edit the show. At the end of the episodes we are saying "Huh? Why did that happen?" Instead we should be going "Oh, now I get it".

8. "The Events ARE Great..."
Sorry Dawg,

I was so enthusiastic about venting my spleen about the performance standard thing that I forgot to mention that I DO agree with you about the events themselves...

Coddington's Crossing is... 'epic' - that's the only word for it. Large scale and diverse... almost like a minature pentathalon. The helicopter shots really give it an impressive feel as well.

Lauder's standing at attention thing was probably even more brutal. I remember being on parade for 2 hours at a time but at least we got to march a bit, then stand at ease, then stand at attention, doing drill at least gets the blood flowing. These two unfortunate victims had to hold the position of attention for hours at a time. I doubt that I could have done that.

The rapelling/quote thing was very well thought out (although it could have been edited down a bit). The combination of the physical aspect and the mental was good. It really highlights the funky things that sleep deprivation can do to you. I remember being on the field portion of the JLC course and standing guard in the woods after being up for about 40 straight hours. I still swear that I saw a sasquatch (bigfoot), but I know that what I saw was only a sleep-deprivation hallucination.

The memory test thing was a hoot. The sleep deprivation thing was going full blast on that one. Whitlow kinda looked like she was in a dream state - almost floating into and out of full conciousness. I remember falling asleep sitting at a desk while writing the written portion of my first aid exam. I figure I caught a good 30 minutes of sleep during a 1 hour exam. Kinda had to rush to finish on time, though.

All and all a good series of events. I would make one suggestion for an additional event, tho... maybe a head-to-head night attack. A steal the flag kinda thing. Physical strength would be offset by the need for stealth.

I look forward to the second running of Coddington's crossing regardless of my views on the scoring procedures.

9. "RE: The Events ARE Great..."
I, too, thought the events were interesting and, dare I say it? - creative? The mental events in light of the recruits' sleep deprivation was highly watchable.

My thoughts...

I'm curious about Coddington's Crossing, too. I'll throw out the question whether or not the re-run was planned up front, or was a backup plan which would/would not be implemented based upon Wolf's performance (you spoiler/conspiracy theorists are getting to me - good for you!). Wolf did look pissed at the end when he was told about the re-run.

The first half of the show had much less "Yes, Sir!" formality. After Lauder's challenge (a toughie) it looked like DI Florence Nightingale and DI Mother Theresa were on the set. The fetal-curled Wolf reminded me of Recruit Katherine in her leopard pants on the latrine floor in E1. "I can't touch you!"

DI Taylor - back from the dead. We've missed her so.

During Haar's run there's a cut-in of Whitlow talking about her chances. She says "I'm going to win Boot Camp because" followed by a pause. I know it's nitpicking, but I can just hear the producers asking her, "Why will YOU win BC?". Not exactly a probing question.

Park's Peak was a good challenge. Especially liked Wolf's strategy of memorizing only a portion of the quote, while Whitlow tried to take the whole mouthful at once and got burned. Did Wolf know Whitlow's time, and therefore knew he had some leeway?

I'm keeping my vote for Whitlow, simply because the show's pointing towards her losing. Francisco says, "I don't know if Recruit Whitlow can make it. She's done." Wolf is raring to go in the rec room; Whitlow's a quivering piece of snorkled toast. At the end, the interviews with the voters mostly pointed towards Wolf getting more votes.

I read the final conversations with Wolf and Whitlow to point towards the Gauntlet ending 5-2 Wolf. I recall Whitlow saying something like "I need 5 votes", and Wolf also mentions something to make me believe he's won 5 events.

Why did they keep the results of two events from the Recruits, but not from us? Will we know the winner before they do?

Last question - What is the scream at the very end of the show as "Boot Camp Productions" is on the screen?

Respectfully submitted,

Recruit Auditor

"Come back to the light, Whitlow!"

That's a GREAT question, but I think they had it planned in advanced. I've always thought the producers have fixed this game so that it's always evenly male/female. So they knew they'd have to make some "equalizers" in the physical challenges... we should've realized something as spoilers, also: You KNEW that Wolf's superior physical ability, coupled with Whitlow's injured ankle, would make him a shoo-in to win that test, so we should've KNOWN that there would be a catch to it.

>The first half of the show had much less "Yes, Sir!"

>DI Florence Nightingale and DI Mother Theresa were on the

Please don't insult Recruit Wolf with comparisons to that dirty nasty QUIT Katherine. Wolf collapsed after five hours at attention, that nasty QUIT Katherine couldn't hack being yelled at. A wee bit of difference.

Also, no matter how much they yell and scream, you better believe that every DI, Black Hat, Drill Sergeant, and whatever else trainers are out there are FULLY cognizant and caring about the safety of the persons in their charge. These DIs are no different, their concern is the recruits' safety.

>DI Taylor - back from the dead. We've missed her so.

Amen. But she still doesn't look fully recovered from whatever illness she must have had.

>Park's Peak was a good challenge. Especially liked Wolf's strategy of memorizing only a portion of the quote, while Whitlow tried to take the whole mouthful at once and got
>burned. Did Wolf know Whitlow's time, and therefore knew

I doubt it. Wolf's physical condition helps him keep his mental condition up. I doubt he was allowed to even watch Whitlow's efforts, and vice versa.

>I'm keeping my vote for Whitlow, simply because the show's pointing towards her losing. Francisco says, "I don't know if

And I'm still sticking to a 7-6 score no matter who wins.

>Why did they keep the results of two events from the
>Recruits, but not from us? Will we know the
>winner before they do?

No, because we don't know how the vote went. But they are keeping results away from the recruits to keep them competing hard. If Wolf knows he's several points ahead, he might be tempted to coast. And Whitlow might be tempted to coast and essentially give up and take her chances on the vote. I think it's a good idea to keep the results from the players as much as possible.

>Last question - What is the scream at the very end
>of the show as "Boot Camp Productions" is on the screen?

A D.I. is yelling "SAY YOU'RE HAVING FUN!!!"

>"Come back to the light, Whitlow!"

Was that hilarious, or what?

12. "Anecdotes - sleep deprivation"
The longest I ever went without sleep at all was 54 1/2 hours during a final exam week my senior year in college.

When I was PCS-ing from Germany while in the Army, my last week was sleep deprived. When I woke up Sunday morning (after a Saturday night farewell party), I began to pack, clean up, and out-process for leaving on Friday. I got no sleep Sunday night, 1 hour Monday night, 2 hours Tuesday night, 4 hours Wednesday night, and none Thursday night. By week's end I was feeling a bit of "come back to the light" myself....
