"No-temptation Island"
Temptation Island would have to be THE worst show on television. The thing is, as vile as it is, the more I laugh at it... or should I say, the more I laugh at these completely idiotic people.

The men (with the girlfriends) blatantly loathe the single guys, and let's face it, it's very simply the age old competitiveness of, "My 'manhood' is bigger/stronger/more satisfying than yours... so let's see how you measure up to me buddy." In a word? Tragic. And their girlfriends are equally filled with loathing and jealousy for the single women. You can see them thinking, "God, what a slut/she is SO ugly/she would NEVER normally have a chance with my boyfriend" blah, blah, boring blah. In a word? Pathetic.

If this isn't funny enough though, the host (and the couples) proclaiming ridiculous justifications for why they are there leaves me literally laughing out loud. "You know, you/we came here for a whole number of reasons (long pause... cause they can't think of any)... but well, umm... ahh... it's really going to change you/us forever, and if you/we get through this with your/our relationship intact, you'll/we'll be become better and much stronger people as a result."

HEY???? What was that???? Better/stronger people???? COME OOOOOOOOON!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

It is the most absurd concept for a show (besides Survivor) that has ever been made. They are on there (in my opinion) for the following reasons only: a) They are vain egomaniacs who want to get there heads on tv and hopefully become famous because they're very insecure, b) They want to make their partner's jealous because they're very insecure, c) They want to flash their gym-moulded bods, oh so groovy hairstyles, and designer swimwear in front of millions of people because they're very insecure, and d) They desperately want to have flings with strangers in efforts to prove they're still attractive because they're very insecure.

And to think that these nonsensical excuses are all the incentive they need. At least with Survivor there's a chance at winning a million bucks.

But - yes, I will keep watching because for an hour, I feel so much better about my own life. In my book, class and integrity is the greatest incentive of all.

1. "RE: No-temptation Island"
I could not agree MORE! Everything you said is the truth. But still, I personally don't mind watching it now and again because I can see it for what it is, crap, however I'm sorry for all those people who take this seriously, including the Islanders. These people are one generation away from the same morons who go on Jerry Springer, hey, Jerry Springer should host this show. It is kind of interesting however, to see how dumb people can be and are. I think that these islanders are shallow and completely out of touch with what love really is. I doubt if any of them realize how stupid they are. These are the same kind of people who sue MacDonalds because they spill hot coffee on themselves and get burned. Remember that quote " I was not ready for this level of temptation? " that one of the guys made early on? That sums it up, he is a moron. When I was younger, like 22, even I was not so insecure that I would go on this sad pointless show. TV is truley going down the tubes. Just blame the networks for putting on these crap shows, they don't give a rats ass about social values they just care about one thing: Ratings = Money. Sad. However, I liked survivor 1.

Well said Novaheart! I too would never consider going on one of these reality tv kind of shows... I'd be too embarrassed. Can you imagine what our friends and family would think?? Mine would never let me live it down. And God, who would really WANT that kind of exposure? Yes, I agree, Jerry Springer would be the "perfect" host. He has such huge experience with these kinds of shallow morons who want to reveal everything about themselves... with the possible exception of their bowel movements. (Or, has he done a show about that too?? Nothing would suprise me these days).

Katie Couric asked a couple of questions in the last day or so (to some tv and tv magazine people)... "How real can these reality tv shows become - what is next? And are they here to stay?" They responded by saying something like, "They'll become as real as the tv networks (and the public) want them to be... and yes, it does seem as if they are here to stay."

I don't think so. I really think that they are a fad, a bit like flares in the 70's - we knew they were hideous, but most people wanted a pair anyway. It's the curiosity/in fashion factor, I guess. I believe people will tire of these shows because we'll all eventually become bored by them... even those "hopelessly devoted". And anyway, how can these shows compare to dramas like The Sopranos and The West Wing, or even a good documentary that depicts real life in an intelligent, sensitive, and non-tabloid way? They just can't.

But - you're right, they are appealing in a "slowing down to look at a car accident" kind of way. I'd love someone to take a photo of me while I watch these things. I have no doubt my face would reveal a combination of fascination, disgust, and incredulity. Now THAT would be funny!!

True, it is funny, but it's still trash. Can you imagine how the parents and families of the contestants feel about seeing their loved ones on this show? I know I would be appalled. These people clearly have little respect for themselves or their partners. I doubt any of them would be seriously hurt if their relationship doesn't survive.
