...looks like there are 2 of us! I enjoyed it. It actually surprised me, with very little storyline of the chefs. They just jumped right in with the cooking part of the show; I'm guessing the storyline IS the food and not the individual making it.

With that said, I did find a favorite - LeeAnn. She sounds smart and acts like she knows what she is doing, she won't be taking any crap from anybody (especially the doofus Ken - who had the "bad guy" edit going for him, until it was found that his cooking svcked and was kicked out!)

I like the way they made the "immunity challenges", with the first test of being in the Fleur de Lys kitchen for 30 minutes (the winner won immunity), then having to make a signature dish with only $30 - showing their personalities through the interactions with the kitchen help, then again with their dish.

I'm very late to these food shows (just recently got into "Iron Chef" and its ilk), so maybe it's just me, but I'm liking this show right from the start. Could be a sleeper hit, like Project: Runway. (I think they come from the same people, not sure, though.)

Maybe one day we'll get to see SB's own Mistofleas on this show!

No, you sure are not. I was just getting ready to start a thread.

Although it was far less explosively entertaining than Hell's Kitchen, I am going to tune in for at least a couple more eps to see how it plays out.

I was actually bummed arrogant Irishman got booted so early. He was good to stir things up a bit & his dish looked better than the vegetable vomit and the hockey puck stuffed chicken & mushy asparagus the other 2 girls served.

I'm an amateur wine geek and I am all for people who know their wine, but always hate it when Sommoliers are overly snooty & condescending. I was surprised he turned out such a nice plate, though & it did look delicious.

My other fave looking dish was the personal chef who's signature dish was Carribean with the jerk chicken & coconut mashed potatoes -- looked yummy.

The judges were rather boring and the hostess (Mrs. Trophy Joel) was pretty boring, too. I'm hoping things will liven up next week.

Oh and the old bag with the potty mouth, she is SUCH a MESS!! I can't believe she cooks for so many celebs. I assume she cleans up well, because I wouldn't let anyone looking like that make me a meal. I was waiting for her to scratch some dandruff into her pot or something. Doubt she'll last long.

I was sorry to see Ken go. His bio says his mouth has blown jobs for him. Appears it still is.

It was annoying they made such a point of his using his finger to taste. When on the intro page Candice is doing the very same.

Maybe it is the Gay man in me but I am over her flirty eyerolls for the camera. Either model or cook. My mother always told me never trust a skinny cook. I don't trust Candice.

Stephen knows his wines but would his dish have been able to hold itself without the wine? I doubt it. From what I saw the wine is what made the dish. All he did was pick the wine not make it.

I think Cynthia is a hoot. Has a foul salior mouth but is a hoot. I hope she stays around just to cause trouble.

My early on favorities for Top Chef are Harold and Lee Anne.

I'm incredibly immature. I giggle whenever I misread "His bio says his mouth has blown jobs for him."

I like this show.

I enjoyed watching Hell's Kitchen but I like Top Chef much more than I liked that show. Kenneth Lee was the first chef evicted on this series and his style was almost identical to the style of Hell's Kitchen's top chef Gordon Ramsey.

I prefer Top Chef to Hell's Kitchen because at the Judge's Table we get to hear how the judges on Top Chef reached their conclusions.

4. "Meet the Chefs"

Stephen Asprinio, 24 - Las Vegas, NV - After graduating from high school in Palm Beach, FL, Stephen went straight to the Culinary Institute of America. To get an edge over the competition, he continued his education after culinary school and earned his degree from Cornell University. Formerly the Sommelier for Nob Hill at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Stephen was one of the youngest Sommeliers in the country, but desperately wants to get back in the kitchen. He describes his cooking style as being light years ahead of traditional chefs and feels his background as a Sommelier only makes him a more valuable chef.

Kenneth Lee, 31 - Dublin, Ireland; LA, CA - Kenneth was classically trained in Europe and currently resides in Los Angeles. His temper lost him his fair share of jobs when he first came to America, but Ken feels it is this intensity and training that have made him the great chef he is today. American cooks irritate him because in his opinion they do not have the drive or skills to be in the kitchen, and he feels they could all learn a thing or two from him.

Andrea Beaman, 37 - New York, NY - Andrea is a Natural Nutritionist and Holistic Health Counselor accredited with the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. She attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where she currently teaches, and it's her mission to encourage a healthier world through her nutritious meal solutions. She is also the author of her self-published book, The Whole Truth, and her follow-up cookbook, The Whole Truth Eating and Recipe Guide, is due in February 2006. One of her main goals is to encourage people to stop eating standard American junk food and live better by choosing natural, pure, and healthy foods.

Dave Martin, 40 - Los Angeles, CA - After pursuing a degree in English at the University of Redlands, then chose to attend culinary school at the Le Cordon Bleu in Pasadena and graduated with honors. While still enrolled in school, Dave formed his own catering company, As You Wish. Additionally, Dave took on the Executive Chef role at XO Wine Bistro in Manhattan Beach. He soon built a strong local following of customers that enjoyed his multi-regional cuisine that ranged from Southern BBQ to Southeast Asian. Dave has a true love and passion for food and people, and enjoys bringing the two together. Dave is busy planning his next food related venture.

Harold Dieterle, 28 - New York, NY - Harold grew up cooking with his family, and in high school discovered that it was a great way to meet girls. He stayed in the culinary arts because of his true love of food, and Harold most recently was the Sous Chef at The Harrison Restaurant in New York City. Because Harold has risen to such an impressive title at a young age, he is extremely confident about his cooking abilities -- sometimes too confident. He may be underestimated in the beginning, but people will soon learn he is a serous culinary force to be reckoned with.

Miguel Morales, 27 - New York, NY - Native New Yorker Miguel is an energetic and passionate Tournant at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City. He has been a chef for eight years and his true passion and bliss for cooking keeps him more focused on how his food tastes than the title on his chef coat. He hopes "Top Chef" will be an opportunity for him to showcase his talents as a chef without compromising who he is as a person.

Tiffani Faison, 28 - Las Vegas, NV - Tiffani moved to Vegas in hopes of learning from other great chefs, and worked as chef de partie under Daniel Boulud at his restaurant in the Wynn Hotel. She is headed back East where, in her opinion, the real cooking happens. During this transition period from Vegas to the East coast, Tiffani decided to work as a food server at the fashionable Tao at The Venetian, where she is gaining the valuable experience of being on the front lines with the customers. She hopes to soon transition the valuable experience she gained working in top Las Vegas establishments into a kitchen opportunity back East.

Lisa Parks, 45 - Los Angeles, CA - Lisa currently conducts cooking classes and says that she has finally found her calling and life's passion through the culinary arts. Lisa is sharp as nails with a Type A personality that will definitely make her a force to be reckoned with in the kitchen.

Brian Hill, 36 - Los Angeles, CA - Brian makes his living as a personal chef to the stars. He has worked in small cafes, four-star restaurants and grand hotels in Washington, DC, Miami Beach, and Beverly Hills. He has been a personal chef for such celebrities as Eddie Murphy, Sean P. Diddy Combs, actor Mehki Phifer, singer Angie Stone, R&B duo Kenny Lattimore and Chante Moore, and World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Lennox Lewis, who hired Brian for his Los Angeles private post-championship fight dinner in June of 2003. Brian is currently a personal chef for Mary J. Blige.

Cynthia Sestito, 54 - East Hampton, NY- Don't let her sweet, ditzy, and carefree persona fool you. Cynthia really has the persona of a loud talking, foul-mouthed sailor. She is a personal chef for Jay-Z and Beyonce and also consults for restaurants in the Hamptons. Her cooking is as unconventional as you get, she'll use a bottle of vodka to flatten out chicken, then sneaks a few swigs on the sly. She has no inhibitions and a no-nonsense attitude when it comes to her customers, not afraid to tell anyone exactly what she thinks.

Candice Kumai, 23 - Pasadena, CA - Since her teens, Candice has enjoyed a good living as a model, but realized that cooking was her true passion. She couldn't keep herself out of the kitchen and was inspired by her philosophy of cooking as an artistic expression to be shared with other people. She made the decision to continue her education with a degree in the culinary arts. With an eye for fashion and a passion for cooking, Candice wants to revolutionize the way cooking shows are perceived. To her cooking is fun and she wants to show women across America that being domestic can still be "hot." She even makes her own sexy aprons and wears heels in the kitchen.

Le Anne Wong, 28 - New York, NY - Le Anne describes herself as an iron chef all the way. Now, she is the executive chef of event operations for The French Culinary Institute in New York City, and absolutely loves what she does - probably because she gets to boss her students around everyday. Her passion is pork, and she can do anything with a pig. Her mother was her inspiration and she says that she probably gets her "chops" from her. She was inspired to join the show because in her opinion there is nothing like being around other chefs that share the same passion for food as she does. However, if someone tries to fake their way through the show, Le Anne will immediately sniff it out and isn't afraid to confront them about it.

There is not much geographic diversity. Pretty much everyone is from New York City, Los Angeles or Las Vegas. Even if you wanted to limit the competition to chefs from big cities, this omits Chicago, New Orleans, and Atlanta, among other places.

5. "101 - Who Deserves To Be Here *SPOILER INFORMATION*"
The first obstacle that the contestants are going to have to face is the "Quick Fire Challenge". The contestants are driven to Fleur de Lys, an institution that is recognized around the world for the quality of their cuisine. A number of the contestants seem worried and are starting to wonder what they are getting into.

At the restaurant, the chefs are told that each week there will be two challenges. The first one will be a Quick Fire Challenge that will be short and simple. The second is an elimination challenge. The chef that wins the first challenge cannot be eliminated that week.

The winner of the "Quick Fire Challenge” and Immunity:

The next morning the contestants are sent to the store to purchase items for their signature dish that they will be cooking. Back at the kitchen, the contestants learn that the judges of tonight's event are each other and that they will be broken into two groups. Red and Blue groups. In addition to their fellow competitors judging, they will also be judged by Chef Keller, Tom and Gail from Food & Wine Magazine. In pulling a knife from the butcher block, they find which color team they are on. The red group cooks first while the blue group judges. Each group has three hours to prepare their dishes.

Andrea prepared Shrimp & Broccoli with a spicy plum sauce on top of brown rice with steamed kale and tahini dressing with carrot flowers and a sesame maple cole slaw.

Dave serves braised lamb enchiladas with a triple chili enchilada sauce with handmade tortillas with a masher of black beans and roasted sweet corn with a chipotle cream.

Candice prepared a chicken shitake roulade with an apple tonkatsu sauce, blanched asparagus, creamy wasabi mashed potatoes and soy ginger cashews.

Ken served a pan-seared halibut on a soy bean, green onion and parsley puree with a touch of tomato compote and a fig gastrique.

Miguel prepared a simple Duo of Beef with Filet Mignon on one side and braised short ribs on the other.

Lisa brought out her Chanterelle mushroom risotto and shrimp with thyme infused oil.

Stephen prepared a three-some of Colorado lamb. First a braised short rib. Next, a rack of lamb seared to the “4th power.” First in rock slat, then mirin, then soy and finally, white miso dressing. The third preparation of lamb was a soup of lamb sausage and fava beans and paired it with a final component of a Pinot Resco wine.

Tiffani prepared an orange and sage pasta baked inside of a pumpkin that the filling is pumpkin with fresh parmigiano reggiano and golden raisins.

Harold prepared a steamed pink thai snapper with brussel sprout leaves, rock shrimp, chanterelle mushrooms and fall squash sauce.

Lee Anne made a cold appetizer, a smoked sturgeon salad with saffron fingerling potatoes, lemon confit and balsamic reduction.

Cynthia comes out and says, "It's not finished! My pomegranate was stolen or taken or wait a minute, I lost it and I made surf and turf and its lamb. I didn't intend to. I call it `crazy rice with lamb'.

Brian prepared Char grilled jerk breast of chicken with coconut mashed potatoes and mango papaya relish.

After the competitors left the room, the judges asked Tiffani, Harold and Stephen to join them in private. They were told that their dishes were in the top three.

Tiffani's dish held up against the meat dishes. Harold and Stephen could actually have served these dished in a restaurant.

The Winner:

Then Andrea, Ken and Candice met with the judges and were told that they were the bottom three and that one of them was going to be eliminated.

They said Ken had no continuity in his dish and it was just bland. They could tell Andrea has a passion for produce but she tried to do too much. Candice was told her technique was there, but it was it was over cooked.

Eliminated:

He was asked to collect his knives and leave.

The winning dish:

Harold's Steamed Thai Snapper

I have to say I'm already disappointed. The first episode was okay but the second was too over the top for me with the challenge and the guest participants. Actually, I was grossed out by both the 'tasters' and the desserts, as well.

I'll give it another chance but the show has already strayed from what I believed it would be. And the judges? hmmm...I can't really put my finger on it but they seem underqualified and dull.

Also, I'm unimpressed with the competitors. Honestly, is that the best they could do?

Tiffany's going to be our Villain. I did, however, get a kick out of the cookie idea. It seemed most in keeping with that particular event. Look for her in the final 4.

Not sorry they canned Veggie Lady. She was just not a chef. She was a nutritionist mom. However, I also don't want to suffer through Dad's Cancer with the woman who they didn't bounce last night. I don't understand why she's not with him if he's alone and in pain. And I feel his illness is being exploited for dramatic content.

16. "EP 2"
I finally got around to watching the 2nd ep last night since my Thursday night was a lot less hectic without Survivor on .

I'm liking the show more. I love to cook gourmet & always look for inspiration and ideas (always say to my family/friends if I won the lottery, I'd head to culinary school)

Anyway the personalities are starting to come out more as we go along.

My early faves are:

Stephen - Although I wish he wasn't such a snob, I have been VERY impressed with his creativity & infusion of his passion of wine into his dishes. I love cooking with wine & drinking wine and think a chef really does have a benefit of knowing what works with either pairing wine with a dish to bring out the best flavors of the dish & the wine -- and also what wines, ports, champagnes to make the best sauces or infuse into the dish for flavor. I would have loved to try his champagne dessert, it sounded great. I'd probably also disagree with the one Judge who recommended a sweeter rather than drier champagne (I just prefer less sweet, though). But that's really just preference.

Brian - His signature dish last week is what caught my attention with him. This week he seemed to again turn out something of quality and flavorful. No excessive frills, but good cooking. I also think he is a real cutie & sweet. I said it before, he can be my personal chef -- or at least give me some of his recipes

Harold - There's no doubt Harold has a lot of talent & experience and I'm rooting for him, BUT I think he is his own worst enemy in this thing. He seems to be stressing himself out and going about everything the hard way. He needs to take a few breaths and relax before going into the next challenge. If he took a moment, he would've found the ice cream maker in the kitchen and wouldn't have had to do his shake-n-bake method. If Nigel were judging this show, I guess he would say that maybe Harold needs to get laid . . .

I was glad veggie lady went -- should've been last week, though. I cook a lot of veggies & organic when I can, but I make meals that look and taste good. Just because you're cooking healthy, doesn't mean you have to leave the taste behind. She's just not a chef & not creative. Glad they finally cut her.

I was disappointed that Cynthia didn't take herself out. With all her talk of how sick her father is & that her head isn't there, why did she stick around? I thought she should've walked away to go to her father. But after they already got rid of veggie lady so they both went.

Looking forward to your summary on this ep, Stormy -- enjoyed your last one.

17. "102 - Food of Love"
Well, let’s see if I can do this without being banned for breaking the PG13 barrier.

FOOD OF LOVE

As the show opens, we see a weepy Cynthia. Shock and horrors, she knows how to talk without cussing. Oh wait she is talking about her father he has cancer and she is not at her full potential. Wait?!! Cynthia has potential? Would that be on the cuss-o-meter? It sure hasn’t been on her cooking skills, yet.

After learning Andrea thought she was the one eliminated because of her poor presentation skills (do we have foreshadowing here) she was pleased to stay. She continues in saying her presentation skills need work. Well duh!!!

The our little wanna be cooking diva Candice is seen whining about being in the bottom three. She real is a good cook. She promises. Then bats her overly made up eyes at the camera. Oh Candy, how can we NOT see you’re PERFECT for TV. Gag. Not to be out done by anyone Tiffani must also whine about not winning and reminds us she is there to win the $100,000.

I think we should start a "Bitches of Bravo Counsel" and nominate, Tiffani, Stephen, Santino and Jay.

ALL ABOUT PRESENTATION

As the challenge gets underway, we see the contestants lining up in the kitchen. We learn one of the guest judges this week, Elizabeth Faulkner Owner of “Citizen Cake.” Bitches of Bravo Counsel member Tiffani lights up and starts to drool. She says that she has always been a fan of Elizabeth and was also featured in an article about "queer women in the kitchen" with Elizabeth.

The contestants see beautiful baskets of fruit in front of them. As well as a cutting board and serving platter. The "Quickfire Challenge" this week is all about presentation, an essential for being a Top Chef. As usual the winner of the “Quickfire Challenge” has Immunity for that week.

The thirty minutes click off very quickly, we hear knives clicking and see Evil Drama Boy Stephen grabbing espresso cups and suddenly DING time was up.

THE PINEAPPLE TOP WALTZ

Lisa proudly presents her pineapple top. Elizabeth quickly tells her issue with items on a plate that are not to be eaten or used. Cut to Evil Drama Boy Stephen laughing as he says HE knew better than to use a pineapple top. Cue evil laughter, which I am sure we have not heard the last of.

Brian presents a pineapple top and jokes about it and blames it on being the 23rd hour. Elizabeth doesn't buy the excuse and tells him, he can’t talk about the hours, he's got to produce at all times.

Cynthia presented a gorgeous plate of papaya seeds. I don’t eat papaya but that is another story. Elizabeth is underwhelmed.

Bitches of Bravo Counsel member Tiffani presented her blow torched fruit plate. Elizabeth is mildly impressed.

Dave, presented a mixed fruit fondue plate. Elizabeth calls it tired.

Lee Anne presents another mixed fruit plate. Elizabeth calls it something from a buffet line. And tells Lee Anne her potential is better than that.

Evil Drama Boy Stephen is up and we get to see what he has done with his with his espresso cups. His platter is covered with espresso cups. Each one is a different vile concoction. Such as watermelon juice with olive oil. Elizabeth is impressed. I am not.

Candice presents an island getaway breakfast, with little heart shaped fruits. Elizabeth isn’t impressed.

Andrea used all the powers of creativity in the universe and dumps the basket of fruit on her plate along with a pineapple top. She didn’t listen to her inner voice that said DON’T DO THAT. Elizabeth tells her the presentation is a disaster. Hmm, Andrea? Haven’t you heard that before?

Miguel proudly tells us the fruit was talking to him. The cantaloupe told him to have all the fruit pour out of it. Along with yet another pineapple top on the plate for garnishment. So, that is exactly what he did. Elizabeth is impressed with his cantaloupe cornucopia.

Harold presents us a beautifully cut fruit plate. He totally met the challenge. It reminded Elizabeth of sashimi.

The winner of the “Quickfire Challenge” and Immunity: Evil Drama Boy

SEX IN THE SHOP

The contestants assemble to hear about the elimination challenge. Emerging from the staircase, is Madame S., the manager of "Mr. S." a fetish store. Miguel has heart failure and immediately declares Madame as "hot." Andrea tells him, "You need to get out more."

The kitchen will heat up as the contestants are being challenged to create a desert for a party that is sexy, erotic, outrageous, exciting, decadent, creamy, hot, and big. All under the watchful eye of guest judges Elizabeth Faulkner and Mistress S. The two will join Katie, Tom and Gail to help decide which Chef made the cut and which one will be packing their knives for home.

Each of the contestants is given $50 to items that they may need for their sexy display.

Tick tock goes the clock. Oh my horrors, Lee Anne discovers that her oven temperature was changed even though she had a note posted on it telling everyone not to. She says she only needs one more minute and asks the group if they would have a problem if she continued and then deducted the time she used from the next exercise.

No one but Bitches of Bravo Counsel member Tiffani has issues with the extra minute. Or so we are shown. She argues with Lee Anne about how when the time is up. It is up. Lee Anne thinks Tiffani is being a bitch. Um, not to be for or against anyone but those were the rules. Make it work for you or against you but don’t beg for more time.

So, Lee Anne scraped everything she did before she ran out of time and started from scratch.

When time is called and everyone is at “Mr. S.,” Miguel is all smiles. Do you think the guy has been in a sex shop before? He seems rather comfy.

The contestants are asked to dress up for the reception and to have some fun. Miguel follows instructions. Out of respect for your stomach I won’t tell you what the man was wearing for the party.

As the party heats up, in walks the Queen of all Drag Queens, Ru Paul. Bitches of Bravo Counsel member Tiffani describes Ru Paul as "one tall bitch." Well, isn’t she charming?

Okay, I know you are just dying to find out what our little band of merry cooks has created.

Lisa created “Naughty Nuts.” Nutty pecan tartlets with Grand Marnier topping.

Tiffani presents her “Fortune Cookie Fantasy” A fortune cookie necklace that was tied to a partner and eaten off of that person. Making it an interactive treat.

Lee Anne maintains “Asian Is Sexy.” After her mishap in the kitchen and having to restart the challenge she made banana nut spring rolls with white chocolate wasabi sauce.

Candice gives us a peek into “Candice’s Panty Drawer.” Lingerie shaped ganache cakes. Which I believe were more popular because she is cute than they were original.

Brian shows us a smooth “Strawberry Apple Crisp.” A hazelnut whipped cream with a hazelnut cookie.

Miguel has a "Total Orgasm" with Pastry Puffs, Tapioca Pillows and a Hot Chocolate Shot. I just hope he was using the condoms in his pocket while having that "Total Orgasm."

Cynthia says her food is "Just Plain Sexy" consisting of a pistachio almond Moroccan tart and strawberry shortcake.

Harold has what sounds to be a fun problem. He has "Sticky Sex." A caramelized banana tart with frozen buttermilk.

Dave presents us with a flesh colored "Tit For Tat" snack. A strawberry pound cake with banana cream filling and baby bananas foster.

Andrea gives us "Creamy Balls & Crunchy Nuts." Chocolate peanut butter balls and chocolate almond flowers.

Evil Drama Boy Stephen has a "Bubbling Orgasm." Apple celery gelee, pomegranate, orchid petals (I don’t care what anyone says. Those were orchid NOT rose petals) and Champagne.

MADAME S SPEAKS

Madame S. tells us what she thought of the dishes. Her top three were Evil Drama Boy Stephen, for the different tastes in her mouth and she finds him handsome (gag). She also likes Miguel, who was not sexy, but his dish was fantastic. Brian was sexy and his dish was sweet with different textures.

Miguel, Stephen and Brian were called to the judges' table.

Evil Drama Boy Stephen was told that his champagne was too dry. Miguel was told that his different courses were sweet and spicy which was a nice balance. Brian was told there was a nice contrast of the rough edges of the crisp against the cream.

The winner :

The judges then call for Dave, Andrea, Lisa and Cynthia.

Dave was told that when he has to inform people about the theme of the dish, it's not successful. Andrea's dish looked like a midday snack. The judges were tired of Lisa's excuses. And Cynthia was reminded that this was her second elimination challenge in the bottom group.

Eliminated:

She was asked to pack her knives and leave.

Tonight was a hoot! I can't believe what annoying people they have found on this show! So many villians, Tiffany . . . .how can she sit there and be so awful to the judges when she knows that thye are able to send her home. I guess it was because she had immunity, but still she was so beligerent, doesn't she know how to survive in these things! And then she had the audacity to say Bryan went home because he didn't take responsibility for his stupid carrots. SHe didn;t take responsibility for anything and saisd that no one should have to because 'kids don't know anything.' At the end, they completely dubbed over what the guy judges 'suggested' to her, and I bet it's because it was some choice words. I would have used some!

Hmmmm, do I hate her or Stephen more? It's a close call due to Stephen's completely uncalled for tear down of Candice and her mold idea. He was so out of line.

So many people to not like . . .I wonder if I'll find someone to like??

I love this show! It has so many villians and the panel of judges are dry and boring.

Stephen is a jerk and will be around til the end as the guy we love to hate.

Tiffany is the woman we love to hate and a nasty beeyotch at that.

I love Miguel (is that his name?) and loved Cynthia (she reminded me of Rose from The Complex) and don't really have any other favorites.

IMO it's a great show! I'm glad there's something on in place of Project Runway. I didn't know what I was going to do with myself Weds nights!

24. "RE: Nasty Delights"
I'm bummed that one of my early faves, Brian, was sent packing. Although, his editing in the last show was a different side of Brian than seen before (horn dog worried too much about a$$ and pass-the-blame Brian).

What a shame Tiffany had immunity or she would have been gone -- she should be reminded that not only Brian's carrots were shot down by the kiddies, but they HATED her applesauce.

Unfortunately for Brian, who was strong the last two weeks until the carrots, he was on a team with other strong chefs. I still love Harold and Lee Ann is pretty good, too. The only one who possibly could've gone was Dave. He's boring to me & hasn't been strong yet, so they could've booted him instead and given Brian credit for "pandering" to the children, where none of the others would.

Overall, I enjoyed this episode & am liking this show more each week. Tom is starting to grow on me and I'm liking him more each week. I still think the hostess Mrs. Billy Joel is a wet blanket. She doesn't have any personality or life -- she just drones on & her speaking about puts me to sleep.

I was getting really disgusted with Cynthia in the first half of the show continuing her whining about how bad her father needed her & I kept saying, THEN GO, ALREADY. But then she did pull herself out of the competition, which was the right thing to do and I felt bad for getting so annoyed with her. I have to remember it's "editing" so who know's if she had 1 confessional about her father or 100.

I know I am in the minority, but I actually like Stephen, snooty arsehole or not. He puts his dishes where his mouth is, so at least he's not ALL talk. He actually cracks me up with his snooty comments, too. It's obvious he's a perfectionist to a fault and looks down on most of the others, but many of the top chefs are big on attitude -- they're artists who don't want to compromise their works of art and don't think anyone can compare to their vision. So, he can be as eccentric as he wants, as long as he continues churning out great looking & interesting dishes.

So now I'm down to only 2 of my early faves left -- good vs evil, I guess you could say -- Harold vs. Stephen. I would love to see them as final 2.

But props to Lisa, who was the standout in the final challenge, though. If her team didn't have her to guide them in pleasing children's palettes, they would've lost.

Candice really needs to go next -- she's just not close to the rest of the competition.

25. "Food on the Fly"
Well, I am really getting disgusted with the challenges these chefs are getting. I can handle the silliness of the "Gas Station" challenge for the quickfire/immunity, but I wish the final challenge would be something better to show the real talent of these chefs. Who wants to eat microwaved food? Or the children's fish feast last week. I'm getting frustrated with this show & I don't think it's going to be back for a second season.

Speaking of the Gas Station Quickfire, I was actually surprised at what many of them were able to do with convenience store ingredients and ONLY 30 minutes, but I wouldn't have wanted to be the taste tester on that one.

I really hated the final challenge. It was inane, although the only good outcome was that the Model/Chef-in-Training is finally gone. She needs to continue with her culinary training at this point. Also, I was really bummed that Harold didn't win, because I REALLY wanted his coconut seafood soup recipe. I wish they would post all the recipes on the Web site, instead of just the "winner."

Again the chefs are taken out of their element. I was disappointed in Harold and sad for Lisa in going along. How is a salad street food??? I always root against snooty Stephen, I dont think the dish was that accessible for the srteet either. I bet it was his idea to serve that way! The winning dish really looked good and I could see it being served on the street.

Incidentally, I live in the SF Bay Area and one of my favorite pizza places in the Mission District serves an Indian spice flavored pizza. It is really good.

28. "RE: Street Food Episode"
Haven't caught this ep. yet, but I am getting sick of the gimicky challenges. I would rather see a more Iron-Chef type "here's an ingredient...now make it your own" type contests. When they go to the Mission (I live in SF, too) and talk about specialty grocers and then turn to the gas station, they've wasted such a good foodie opportunity! Why have they not hit the Ferry Building Market yet???

I could tell Harold is getting sick of the silliness last week. I mean, it's a little insulting...as if real cookery wouldn't be "fun and wacky" enough for viewers.

Still watching, but not so into the show I'll stay up to watch the new episode the night it first airs.

29. "RE: Street Food Episode"
I enjoyed this ep MUCH better than last week and felt the challenge was much more "worthy" of the chefs. The last couple of weeks were ridiculous, but I think the show is back on track now (I hope).

The Quickfire with the blindfold test was really good and I was shocked that Andrea won. I really thought Stephen should've had that one in the bag with his wine tasting knowledge. I also enjoyed the clips of the contestants letting loose & having fun drinking and doing the "fat azz junk food challenge." No surprise who won.

As arrogant as Stephen is, he is still one of my two faves with Harold. Again, I wish they'd put all the recipes up, becasue I would've loved to try Stephen and Leann's dish, especially the drink.

It was sad to see Lisa go -- I really thought it should've been Miguel (since Andrea unfortunately had immunity). Miguel was an idiot to let Andrea run with her bland idea and I thought Harold & Lisa's salad sounded MUCH tastier than Andrea's open-faced burrito. But Lisa has been at the elimination table the most & I agree with the Judges that she wasn't really trying. She had the "they're professionals & I'm not" mentality & threw in the towel weeks ago.

As long as the challenges stay more in line with what was done this week, I'll enjoy tuning in each week. This show leaves room for A LOT of improvement & I would like to see it continue with a better format.

I feel likewise.
It's been a little tough mustering up the same enthusiasm I had for Project Runway I think, in part, because of the boring judges and challenges that seem more for the sake of comedy than showcasing the chefs skills. Also, this show could have used their own Tim Gunn type person.

Oh well...I'll keep watching, maybe after they get rid of a couple more people it'll start focusing in more on serious challenges.

I really like this show. I like the challenges too.

I think the challenges really spell out what it takes to be a good cook or a top chef. The gas station challenge was great. It gave them the opportunity to prove that a good cook can make a meal out of anything. It was a true test of culinary skill. The cooking for kids challenge demonstrated that a good chef should be able to cook for anyone.

It's great to be a 4 star restaurant chef. But a true talent in the kitchen should be able to make food that will appeal to all kinds of people.

The person who wins hopefully will be a well rounded chef who can cook for all different types of people with all different types of tastes.

Last night's Dinner Party with the Queer Eye guy was good. I liked the twist of having to switch up dishes at the last minute. I'm growing extremely tired of Miguel. And Dave's emotional breakdowns are also getting old.

They might as well cut everyone but Leanne, Stephen, Harold and Tiffani. The competition is really between these four. That has been quite evident from the begining.

I agree with you 100%, Wellie (but why am I not surprised? ) The last 2 weeks, the challenges have gotten MUCH better. I am in 100% agreement with the only four that are really fighting for this.

I was very happy to see my 2 boys working together (Stephen & Harold). I also agree that Harold has gotten much more attractive since he has lost his "nerves" from the first couple of eps & he's getting aggressive.

My faves are still Stephen/Harold, with LeeAnn a close third. Tiffani has talent & she'll be around for her beeyotch/cut throat factor. I thought the previews were hilarious for next week with emotional wreck Dave exclaiming to Tiffani at the Judge's table "I'm not your beeyotch, BEEYOTCH!"

This show is finally starting to get good.

I'm still with it. Still love it. The show itself is well put together, it has a good flow to it. The challenges are inventive.

The most glaring spot for me is the host. I don't remember her name, but she's quite stiff. Actually, both women aren't that great. And Tom the chef is no Tim Gunn.

I have no idea how they create some of these dishes, but it's enjoyable to watch. If I'm spending $20 at the gas station, it's for gas... and Oreos and candy - I guess I don't know know how to think like a chef!

I also foresee a LeeAnn-Harold-Tiffani finale, LeeAnn being my favorite from the first show.

37. "RE: Fashion Question"
Well, this is the third cooking elimination series I've seen, and it's solidly in the middle.

First came Cooking Under Fire, on PBS of all places. It was great! The best cooking show so far. Similar, actually, to Top Chef, except it was only 30 minutes long and there was no immunity challenge. It had a variety of good cooks and was consistently entertaining.

Second came Hell's Kitchen. I didn't learn anything about cooking on this show. It had professional cooks mixed with people more inexperienced than I. There was lots of screaming and it all seemed to be about who was fastest on the cooking line. I didn't like this show and don't plan to watch the second season.

Now, Top Chef. I actually quite like this show. It may be slightly gimmicky, but not that much, IMO. And I agree with those who have stated that a Top Chef should be able to do well with any cooking situation. My biggest beef is with casting. Again, I like a diverse cast, but not if that means a couple of the contestants are out of their real element. I mean, I enjoyed Andrea but she didn't even want to win.

I think all 6 people left are talented. I find it disheartening that Stephen's presentation skills keep him so high up, when his cooking skills seem weaker. I mean, last night he won the quickfry because his food was pretty. That's total California Cuisine. I live in Los Angeles, but I never go back to any restaurant that serves that sort of food.

And Bravo's editing seems to be getting a little formulaic...the neophyte...the villain...who wants to bet that Stephen gets the Santino 3rd place?

Finally, I do believe that the Top 4 is pretty obvious and I'd predict (and hope for) a Harold-LeeAnn finale.

So glad that *finally Andrea is gone. Cute and personable but definitely was dragging the show down. Besides, that comment she made to Ted Allen about the BM was so gross it made me think she was doing her best to get the boot.

Stephan: Those clams? They looked like something I see after a storm on my garden walk, and the oh-so artistic drips, reminded me of snail paths. The plate was just ugly, imo. But I do like he seems to be loosening up a bit, I'll give him that.

Sure the top chefs - I agree with the rest of you but it might have been nice to not have been so predictable so early.

I'm still underwhelmed by the judges but they seem to be picking good ones for guest appearances and I especially enjoyed Ted Allen.

I'm rooting for Harold atm, but am noticing more each week how well Leanne handles the challenges and also seems to manage to be supportive of the other chefs. That's a quality I hope isn't overlooked.

Dave's crying jag was hilarious...couldn't believe how long it lasted - cracked me up.

Quickfire: Sandwiches for Chef Tom's new sandwich restaurant.

Harold wins. Miguel totally is an idiot & makes a deconstructed fallafel. Flavor was great, but it's not a frickin' sandwich. Dave's jelly & ham combo sounds kind of good. I may have to play with that at home. Tiffany was embarassed by her enormous wich. She handles it well, though.

Challenge: Restaurant Creation, from concept to design to food. I loved Lee Anne's comments throughout about her teammates (Stephen and Miguel). She was a little short tempered with Miguel & didn't give his ideas much creedence, but he doesn't present his ideas well. Team Harold/Tiffani/Dave was fun to watch. Dave did an outstanding job. I wasn't sure the concept would go over well, but it did. The seating concept (family style) was risky, but the food certainly wasn't. Their "simplified" approach really worked though.

I wanted to effing shoot Stephen. His desciptions of the wine is soooo over the top. I enjoy wine & learning bits & pieces, but good gawd! He droned on and on & people got cold food. Moron. I wonder if he really IS this way in real life, or if this is just a "show persona."

Agree re Stephen. He makes me want to poke him the face with something sharp. Harold remains a quiet gem...but perhaps too quiet? His cooking is excellent but clearly the creative juices on the winning team flowed from Dave and Tiffani. Which is the only time Dave and Tiffani, after all, will ever comingle juices.

I liked the American Workshop concept and meal a lot. I think the Spain thing is already getting overworked, even without Stephen's incredibly pompousity.

And I was glad to see Miguel go. Mercy killing.

Next week looks good! I think the show has hit that great first-season-new-reality-show peak where we've reduced the cast down to an essential few ingredients and now the stock gets all rich and complicated.

Plus, doesn't my hometown look simply dreamy in this show?

I didn't see Tiffani really ragging on Dave the way he said she did during the judging. Did you?

Do I detect Stephan doing his best to get kicked off? He's had to realize before now his wine education spiels are doing nothing but agitating everybody. And how about when he was shopping for supplies and acted like he didn't realize he'd gone twice over his budget. Find that a little odd but maybe he realizes he doesn't really have a shot at Top Chef and no longer wants to compete.

LeeAnn let her frustration get the better of her from the get-go on this one although I loved her comment, "I get the big-thinker and the no-thinker." lol

S.F.- love the location! (Not my current hometown but birthplace and where I was exposed at a young age to tastes and smells hard to duplicate elsewhere.)

I'm still rooting for Harold but I do think he'd better kick it up a notch or two in the personality dept. It's reality tv entertainment, after all.
His sandwich would be something I'd order, good call there.

But I'm liking this show more each week and glad to see it's getting good reviews.

I do think he's earned the respect of his teammates, and for leadership, respect is a key ingredient.

LeeAnn is great leader and Tiffany needs to learn to control her bite. Dave can't lead other strong people and he can't control his emotions well.

No way can Dave last much longer, then Stephen probably--but not for sure by any means--in fourth

LeeAnn, Tiffany and Harold seem very likely final 3.

I think Lee Ann has had the "winners edit" so far, although all three have had mixed edits, with Tiffany mixed leaning negative, Harold mostly shown as a contender, but not so much a winner, and LeeAnn as quite good with just enough negative to keep it interesting.

I'm a little surprised to see Stephen go and I'm definately surprised to see him leave before Dave. Even though he was arrogant and not a crowd favorite, he was talented and smart and I expected to see him in the final 2. I think Dave is just skating by right now. He was saved last week because it was a group challenge and he was on the winning team, then LeeAnne saved him last night. I really thought Harold was going to be given the boot last night. He just made too many mistakes if you ask me. I also wasn't impressed with LeeAnne last night.

If you ask me, Tiffani is running away with this thing right now. A few weeks ago when they made them trade dishes and Tiffani's original dish AND the dish she actually made were both top 3 really proved to me that she is bringing to goods. Though she doesn't have the best attitude in the group, she is still the best chef.

Stephen has never really been a team player. He should have been in the kitchen helping with the dinner instead of giving instructions to the wait staff on how to serve wine and clear tables. Wow, it was really great the way they "swept" the room to clear the tables and all, but, the challenge was to prepare food for the wedding.

You don't win Top Chef by serving wine properly and clearing dishes. He made a big mistake and lost track of what he was being judged upon. It wasn't the first time he's done that also. IIRC he was boring customers at another challenge with the history of a particular kind of wine.

Exactly, bystander. Stephen can't focus on which part of the biz he want to be in. He can't do it all. He IS a talented chef, but I don't think he has the passion nor focus.

I'm sooooo glad he's gone. I found his need to educate everyone about wine to the Nth degree seriously iritating. And I apologize in advance to the next server than hands me one of those damn chinese soup spoons. Did he have to use those for everything?

Harold disappointed me last night with his dish. LeeAnn was humbled and rightfully so. She did fine overall, but her menu was too ambitious. Dave did well under pressure. I'm surprised. If he can control his emotions, he's good. As good as the rest? I don't know. Up to this point he hasn't done so well at controling those emotions.

I think I'll be pleased with any winner at this point.

I agree with you, King. I was VERY shocked that Stephen was sent packing over Dave. How many times before have they said "this is not top sous chef" which is basically what Dave is. Dave is a mess and the only reason he was saved is because he was the prep guy.

Stephen at least deserved F3. The restaurant biz is very fickle and to be successful requires not only delicious, creative dishes, but the attention to every little detail that Stephen brings to the table. His bio said he has a bit of OCD and you can see that in him. I prefer anal chefs, because the little things mean a lot. I've seen many restaurants close even though the food was great, because the decor was passe or the service not up to par, wine list wasn't strong. I know a few restaurateurs and have heard first-hand what it takes. Stephen had his eye on the whole picture, rather than just plating up a dish.

Harold was another of my early faves & he is really disappointing me. He has no passion lately and he needs to assert himself more. He's too quick to accept blame. Tiffany will devour him if he doesn't get a backbone.

LeeAnn was a disappointment as well. Lack of leadership & control in the kitchen & using the cake mixes and honestly, I think she should have put personal differences aside and not protected Dave, because he is not in the same league as the others.

I have a sick feeling Dave will make the F3. So, who will go next, Harold or LeeAnn (since they are getting the weakest edits of late).

I have the same feeling about Harold. He seems frustrated with several of the challenges. And the judges annoy me greatly. On the one hand, they give them a challenge that requires team effort, then they fault them for not striking out on their own, calling their own shots, etc. Which one do you want - cohesiveness as a team, or a bunch of leaders? Make up your frickin minds!

My two favorites are Harold and LeAnn.

As people, my favorites are Harold and Lee Anne. As a chef, I'd hire Miss Tiff. I am surprised they booted Stephen, only because the previews gave this boot away so clearly that I thought it had to be misdirection.

I agree with lots of comments you guys just made. I think Harold got frustrated with the gimmick challenges and now he's just there for the ride. No fire in the belly to win.

Lee Anne was definitely over her head last night and while she is a good cook, I have a hard time seeing her handling a restaurant crew on a busy Saturday night. Still, in her defense, preparing an ambitious menu didn't seem like a really stupid idea until they found out they only had 16 hours in which the prepare. She fell on her sword most gracefully -- I wonder if she truly thought the judges might kabob her with it. I didn't. I knew she wasn't going anywhere, and I still think she's going to win.

Watching Dave makes me tense. He's like a guy with perpetual menstrual cramps. Each challenge or comment seems to constern him to the point of physical pain. I cannot see him winning this thing.

Finally, WTF was up with the mix cake? It is not that tough to make a simple white cake. And was it really Harold's suggestion, or Tiffani's idea?

Well, I must say last episode had me surprised, too.

The cake mix was bad enough but the eggshell, even worse.
Mixing a good cake batter is easy! (btw, somebody please confirm that when I buy a cake at the bakery, it's not Betty Crocker...now I'm worried.)

Harold: If he doesn't stop whining he shows he can't handle the predictable unexpected in any kitchen, better forget about being a Top Chef. He'd better start showing some leadership skills, too.

Lee Anne: So disappointed, as she should have been. No way was her menu meant for a crowd of 100. And they ALL should have realized when planning that time would be limited.

Dave: Wow, good job. However, his past emotional outbursts will not be forgotten nor if they're for real should he be even considered for the top three. Shame...he's talented and, imo, has the best experience, being in the catering business.

Tiffani: She's a sly one. lol Oh sure, she's a good cook but I don't think she could keep a crew together for long. Gotta be a real team in the kitchen and she's too into her own thing.

Stephen: About time. As I expected, he did even more this week to assure he'd be kicked off. Something tells me he wanted to leave about three weeks ago so I'm glad he's gone.

I was impressed they got rid of Stephen as I thought, for sure, they'd keep him for entertainment value.

So...Dave was the biggest surprise. hmm.
Wondering, though, if Lee Anne hadn't said he should be the last one to get booted if that made a difference.

I'm still rooting for Harold IF he can show leadership, that is.
The salmon fiasco wasn't his fault but I think he should have chosen another fish, one that was fresh even if his clients requested something else. Farm fish, btw, is just nasty...could never be an option except maybe smoked in a can.

It's getting better...can't wait to see what the final three do!

I did a lot of cake research before our wedding. A TON of bakers use cake mixes (modified amounts of water/oil/eggs) and use flavor additives to make them "unique." Your local bakery probably makes it from scratch though, or at least buys mixes that are meant for bakeries.

ah, I see. Next purchase I think I'll ask.

Speaking of that cake, though, I also thought it was on the small side for the amount of guests. And the flowers, a bit trite.

This is true. Was the same on Project Runway, too, -- the judges gave too many mixed messages and it only got worse as time went on.

Btw, I canNOT stand that waxy Mrs. Joel, the host. Someone really goofed there in choosing her. But to be fair, the judge from Food and Wine isn't much more lively or useful, imo.

Just my two cents but I think sometimes the "mixed messages" is because they are looking for a balance of various traits. So one person might need more of one thing but another person needs less of it. Sometimes it is the same person who needs one thing one week but goes to far and needs to rein it back in.

I guess it doesn't seem so inconsistant to me as it does to other people, but there will be inconsistancies in the comments made just because of the strengths or weaknesses of the various people and how they did this week's task even if the judges could be totally objective. When you throw in they are human that adds to the subjectivity of the comments sometimes.

Just wanted to check in and add that I, too LOVE this show!

I feel really bad for Harold, as I get the feeling He was totally expecting this to be a straight up cooking competition, and not with all these silly challenges.

I like LeeAnn and Tifany, too, and think they will make a great Final Three with Harold.

I think LeeAnn has the overall package that is required to be a Top Chef and believe the judges have already picked her in their heads. Her people and management skills are right up there with her cooking and that = a "recipe" for success!! - ALL PUNS INTENDED!!! HAHA!

The only blame I have for the whole show is the BRAVO editing. They always slash a show mercilessly because they do not know their audience well enough. There's lots of interesting stuff they could be showing behind the scenes in Top Chef, but they spend wayyyy toooo much time on environment shots and completly destroy the judges comments portion of the show.

Aside from that, I'd like to see the show come back again next season!!!

I really can't believe that Stephan is that pompass and arrogant at the rip old age of 24. My feeling is that he was beat up a lot as a child by his classmates. If he were to ever approach my table and begin his narcissistic rambling and psuedo-educational puking about this or that, I would literally stab him in the eye with a fork! What a weenie.
Tiff is definitely an odd one - I was kind of hoping she would have gotten the boot after her little tirade during the Boys and Girls Club challenge, but she is talented.
I share everyone else's sentiments - Harold has been disappointing, but foreshadowed himself not winning the overall competition when he said something to the effect of - "I'm not about designing and dressing the house, I cook food." They obviously want the complete package.
Dave is soooooo over-emotional it's a little scary.
That leaves Ms. Lee-Anne as the winner.....a solid choice that they probably had picked before the competition even began.

Soooooooooo....a shocker there!

I was thinking Tiff was history until they actually booted Lee Anne. Wow. I really thought Lee Anne had this won. And I'm not thrilled that Dave will be in Vegas, rather than her. Although the mac n cheese sounded devoon.

How much of a nonevent was Harold's illness? I thought he came closest to barfing when they revealed yet another Fugly Food Challenge. But I would happily eat any of the three winning quickfire dishes.

So, on to Vegas and some form of 2-part finale. I almost think it's anyone's guess now. The reunion looks pretty Springerumtious, too, dontcha think?

Eventhough I picked Tiff to win, I was rooting for her to go home last night cause that "attitude" reared it's ugly head again. I'm not sure how she expects to work with the public when she can't even be nice to a panel of judges who hold her fate in their hands.

I'm also suprised Dave is sticking around, but I have to say I thought he did well last night. Of course, it's hard to say for sure since we don't actually get to taste the dishes, we just have to rely on the judges to tell us how good everything is.

I agree it's a toss up. All the final 3 have their strengths and weaknesses and I can honestly say, I don't really think I care who wins at this point. But I will be watching.

I love the show too because I am such a foodie!

I was really bummed to see Tiffany get to stay, but as always, I think when judges are in control and not the audience, they like to keep the mean person around for drama sake. Thus, Tiffany lives on. Too bad for Dave and Harold. I really like Dave - I think he has the most integrity and courage of all of them. I truly admire him for having gone through a major career change mid-life and for being such a success at it.

I'm anxious to see what the finale is like. I'm sure Dave will crack under the pressure and that Tiffany will be terribly difficult to both dave and Harold.

Next week's reunion show should be VERY interesting...

And, of course, I TOTALLY agree they need a new host! SHe is SO boring!

I'm so disappointed LeeAnn got axed. I really don't understand since she's consistently outdone Dave. Sure, his winning dish was exceptional this time, but overall, I think his strength is in upscale deli or cafe foods. Top Chef? No way.

I think Tiffani is going to be a force to be reckoned with now and could, if she played to her full nasty potential, have not only Dave in tears but Harold, too.

LeeAnn got screwed. Just a shame because, like she said, she doesn't have to rely on anything but her cooking skills to shine.
I wanted to see a finale without personal conflicts....all that was okay up until now, but ohwell..

I'm hoping the judges will remember Tiffani arguing with them about giving the customer what they want, how they want it, no matter what. She's not Top Chef material. It'll be Harold unless she finds a way to totally shake him up.

eta: I forgot to say, I can't wait for the reunion! lol...I'm expecting Stephan to insult practically everybody and since he had no comment when he got booted, the judges won't be spared either.

Yeah....

That's the big problem with lots of these shows - they come down to a single performance on a single day, with little regard for a good track record.

I like Dave, but He's an emotional train wreck and consistently underperformed compared to the other 3. He got lucky with - of all things - macaroni and cheese! HAHA! KRAFT should hire him as a spokesperson!

Tif is a "witch" and if she can't behave around her fellow competitors and judges, how in the world is she ever gonna get a kitchen and wait staff to work with her???

Poor LeeAnn...the one person who actually seemed to have the personality and skills to run a kitchen operation! She just tried to do too much at once. Without the risotto on that plate, she may have won....???

Go Harold! The show is called top "CHEF", after all, and he seems to have what it takes to put a good staff together and please his diners! I'd eat at his place!

Can't wait for the reunion show!!!!

Disappointed on many levels. The first thing I thought when they revealed the final challenge in this episode was that Stephen was ROBBED. Stephen would have been giddy like a school girl when they brought out those truffles and that wine. I really would have LOVED to see what he came up with. So, that was my first disappointment.

Now, I think Dave is a nice guy, but there is no way he should be in the final 3. He might as well not even show up, the competition is only between Tiff and Harold. Honestly, I am so dissapointed the final 3 isn't either Harold, Lee Ann and Stephen (my first choice) or Harold Lee Ann & Tiff. I do give small props for Dave choosing something OTHER than lamb (no brainer) & doing the mac-N-cheese, but the aired reviews weren't that favorable.

Lastly, I am SO disappointed they chose Tiffany over Lee Ann -- they sent others packing for their attitude (1st guy & Stephen) yet they keep Tiffany week after week even though she disagrees with the critiques of the judges and has said she didn't care about what the "customers/patrons" thought (ie kid's challenge & microwave challenge). When she wouldn't admit that her cauliflower was a poor choice to pair with the wine while also saying out of the other side of her mouth that she "accepts her mistakes" that should have been the final straw. Seriously, she has learned the least in this series.

I think it's basically set up that it's Harold's title to lose. Tiffany has had such a bad edit and she is the "bad" guy ~~ Dave is the novice with uncontrolled emotions and then there's slow-and-steady-wins-the-race Harold.

It would be so much more exciting with Lee Ann and/or Stephen in the mix for the finale.

Looking forward to the reunion & I'm very happy this show is renewed for another season. I think it'll come back with a better format -- hopefully new host, first & foremost. This show definitely got better as the season went on. I'll be tuning in next season.

Ok, I know I'm immature, but am I the only one that LMAO'd when Stephen said (talking about his teachers) "They shot loads into me." *snort!*

And Tiffani running off crying when confronted about turning off the ovens? Diversion! Guilty bitch, if ever I saw one.

After watching the show, I hate Tiffani even more, and I like Stephen much better. It was really cool of him to step up and apologize to Candice. It seems like he really learned something from watching himself on tv and seeing what a douchebag he looked like.

Best reunion show I've ever seen. Highly entertaining.

85. "RE: Reunion Show "
LAST EDITED ON 05-11-06 AT 07:49 AM (EST)

Now, THAT was a reunion show. I loved every minute of it. Most of my thoughts on everyone stayed the same.

I want to say first that, I KNEW Stephen was really a good guy underneath all his arrogance (which didn't bother me as much as it did everyone else, because I like to be educated on wine & other things). I'm glad Harold defended Stephen in the beginning and am really glad that Stephen apologized to Candace and he realized looking back at himself edited to only show his "alter ego" as Harold calls it, that Stephen realized how off-putting that is to many people. Stephen still impresses me with his knowledge at such a young age & that he wants to spread his knowledge to others -- he just needs to learn about delivery. I was shocked that Stephen called out Ken and looked like he was ready to fight him -- I'm glad he did, because Ken was a total arse, but seriously, Ken would have wiped the floor with poor Stephen.

I knew Tiff was a beyotch & I actually dislike her even more -- I can't believe she wouldn't admit to the things she did and said. I didn't feel sorry for her one bit when she stormed off crying for that brief moment. I now believe she WAS the one messing with the ovens and sabotaging everyone. I hope she is first out next week and the final challenge is Dave & Harold (even though I do believe Dave really shouldn't be F3).

Dave was a little too much in his "victim" act with Tiff. I like Dave, but if anyone needs some Paxil or something, it's him.

I'm pulling for Harold all the way (though Harold v LeeAnn v Stephen would have been my dream F3).

One last thought. I thought Ken's boot in the first ep was total BS and I'm glad Ken called out the judges for it (though he did it in a juvenile way) AND I'm glad Harold piped in about the whole "finger in the sauce" thing. Ken DID NOT deserve to be 1st boot, but I could not get over what a complete jerk he was being last night. They should lock Ken & Tiff in a closet and let them attack each other -- either they'll kill each other or they would be perfect together.

Ken deserved the first boot because he proved to be so unstable that he was a danger to the other contestants. Arguing with a judge is also poor strategy.

I agree - and even more entertaining than I expected.

ha...
Take away Stephen's wine bottles and goofy suits, he's actually appealing and he definitely redeemed himself with that apology.

But for the finale..
Still hoping it's going to be a serious effort without a whole lot of dramatics. Anyhow, I'm bored with Tiffani's act, not that Dave and Harold aren't using it to their advantage.

Dave - surprising, but I think he could take this thing.

They didn't show any of them specifically saying who their pick was -- basically Andrea & Candace mentioned Dave since he is the underdog, but both also like Harold. Mostly comments about how Harold is "all around" what Top Chef should be & Dave is well-liked.

No one said anything about Tiffany. I have a feeling she is first out next week and it will be Dave the underdog v. Harold and it's definitely Harold's competition to lose. I can't wait to see Tiff's face when she is out -- there is no way she can win (IMO).

Which will be too bad. Because I still say Tiffani is one of the best chefs, and I'd rather see her and Harold in a cookoff.

I'm in the total minority here. Dave gets on my last nerve. Every time someone said they wanted him to win "because he's HUMBLE..." I wanted to hurl. WHAT has that to do with cooking?

I'd love to buy into this wonderful Stephen Learns and Grows Moment, but I completely understood why Ken started laughing. The total kissing of the Now Famously Succulent Candice Tush was soooooooooooooooooooo over the top (BTW, was Brian always this annoying?). I think at least some of the New Improved Stephen is due to him getting flack for being SUCH an arse and realizing he needed to a little retroactive career-image editing.

Now, Tiffani is seriously broken, but so's Dave. I honestly don't think Tiffani ran around switching off ovens - I think her ego would forfend such an admission of concern over the other competitors. And until there is proof I think the accusations suck. Further, I can see ways in which the edit is making her a more serious villain than she may be (she's the queen of denial, it's true, but they asked that panel if they thought Miguel should go home, and she said yes; she did not volunteer Miguel's name in response to a general "who should go?" query, as she is being accused of doing).

I think it interesting that Veggie Health Lady (I have trouble with names today) stood up for Tiffani. I think there was a lot of gellus jumping on the band wagon. I think we're being edited into rooting for Dave, and while Everyone Loves Harold, I still say a final two with him and Tiffani would be a better COOKING event than the passion and vision and tears and hugging that will ensue when/if Dave and Harold go the final 2.

Phew! Sorry to get so long winded.

ETA: "As for Tiffani, I think she actually plays the game exactly as it was designed. She is clever, quick and very talented. But what her tough exterior hides is a great deal of charm and inner strength. I just wish she would let it show through more often." Judge Gail

A final note/question - was it a little SPOILER when Dave said that about "Season Two Chefs - I'll kick you're ##### -- you think it's easy?!" It made it sound like he was coming back, and knew it (perhaps an indication that he does NOT win?)....has the final been shot yet, or will it be live?

I didn't get a clear take on who the group thought would win--but it's BRAVO, they'll rerun the episode probably ten times, at least.

Caught that and also thought it was strange they didn't edit it out...but from all accounts, BRAVO has a surprising hit here and maybe since Dave has become so entertaining (ok, that's debatable, I know) they intentionally gave us that 'spoiler'.

As for live, not sure...I'd like to know, too.

Also - I think Ken is pure evil. Being a chef is simply a part of his diabolical means of getting rid of the bodies.

I wouldn't accept a glass of water from him if he poured it, much less eat a plate of his food.

Ginger - You are HYSTERICAL. Loved your take on the reunion special. I was also surprised at how much I disliked Dave during this show. (Not so surprised at how much I couldn't stand Tiffani though).

I wonder how long this taping was? Because the amount of wine they all consumed may have accounted for the heightened dramatics. I thought Stephen's apology to Candace was heartfelt and very big of him. She was in the middle of self-deprecating when he interrupted her and told her how brave he thought she was for even being there. A simple apology would have been enough, but it seemed like he had been beating himself up over that for a while.

Could Tiffani play with her hair any more during this show? Yeah, I get it, not having that orange, Weird Al Yankovic hair for once must be amazing, but GEEEEEEEEZUS.

Second, I heard from a few people who waste even more time than I on the boards that the taping ran for 10 hours. Clearly, Bravo followed its own Project Runway example and made sure the booze flowed freely, so that the insults and tantrums would also blossom.

As per usual, you rock.

Tiffani is a great chef, should be in the final two woth Harold. I think Harold will be the victor.

Dave is a mess, and if there was a restaurant that specialized in hyperactive attention deficit disorders, he would be king. He said in the reunion "I never cry, people can tell you"... Umhmm. Are these people real or imaginary?? I am not saying he can't cook, I am saying he is not up to par with Tiffani and Harold.

Harold will win. At least I hope so.

A lot of speculation out there is that Harold is seeing LeeAnne. But I was thinking (if he's not gay, that is) -- wouldn't it be interesting if he were dating Candice? Perhaps that's why Stephen had such a change of heart ... his buddy's new girlfriend? It did seem like Harold was really defensive about the "single" question, and I don't see it being a closet problem.

Of course, what do I know...it ain't like I have lunch with the guy.

Harold never struck me as gay, but I also wouldn't be surprised. Stephen seems more gay to me than Harold. Now I am DYING to know if Harold is with LeeAnne (no way!) or Candace. When he got really adamant about being single on the reunion show, I just assumed that he was sick of the question and wanted to put out there, once and for all, that he was not on the market.

Which well could be the case. I think people were really studying seating positions and body language at the reunion and leapt to some (admittedly intriguing) conclusions.

There is a lot of spec. on Bravo boards that he's dating Andrea, as well:

"Here's something too good to keep to myself. It's a chat site and someone called Euro Diva is a friend of Andrea's. She went to a gathering at a bar to watch the reunion show with most of the chefs. There's some very interesting gossip here that might throw a light on the sabotage controversy."
http://forum.lush.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=48548&start=255

The poster continued:

"I am convinced now that Harold and Andrea are a couple. There's definitely chemistry in the photo. And I can see them together much more than Harold + Lee Ann or Harold + Gail or Harold + Stephen. I'm a quiet guy like Harold, and I'm totally attracted to women like Andrea (though physically she's not really my type) -- she's not a princess, is comfortable in her own skin, and has a certain care-taker vibe with the healthy food, I'm gonna make you feel better, etc. etc. I have a vision now of her and Harold together . . . 'Here, baby, try it like this . . . it'll feel so much nicer. . . .' "

Food for thought.

Harold is totally gay. He just doesn't like to broadcast his private business to the world. Silly him, he's all about the cooking.

Just cause he's not a flamer, doesn't mean he's straight. If he were hetero, he would have simply said he has a girlfriend. His equivocation is a dead giveaway.

No,I don't think so. But I would actually enjoy having dinner and lots of drinks with pretty much any of the chefs on this show. Even Ken, though I think I'd hate myself before the dinner was over.

Your comments below are very astute. I found the finale rather anticlimactic. Nice editing, not too heavy handed or anything. What-ever!

Even though I have not been a big Dave supporter, I think sending him home last night was the wrong decision. I know he forgot to make one dish which was a major mistake, but still of the 9 things they prepared last night, Dave's were superior to Tiffani's the majority of the time. It seems like on this show that a few times the judges have went with the easy choice on who to vote off. Brian was voted off for trying to be inventive when he made one minor mistake. They voted off Stephen just because everyone spoke out against him. When you give them 3 challenges and Dave wins one and creates 2 of the best overall dishes, while Tiffani is 0 for 3, I don't understand getting rid of Dave for making one mistake.

Ultimately, it doesn't matter though as Harold just dominated last night and will probably win this thing.

I don't think it was a mistake to send Dave home. Part of being a Top Chef is to hold it together in the kitchen. Dave again showed he cannot do that.

I was surprised his food beat out Tiffani's & was proud of Dave for that.

ETA:
-The previews didn't look good for Harold, but I'm still hoping.
-Miguel is still one of the most annoying people ever.
-Stephen again seemed human. I like the boy now.

110. "RE: Dave Sent Home"
I finally got around to watching the ep last night and I agree that I didn't think Dave should have been sent home based on that quickfire challenge (even though I didn't think Dave deserved to be in the F3).

While Dave forgot the one dish, which was a huge mistake, all of his other dishes in all 3 challenges got good reviews. He won the poker player order, he and Tiff were probably about even in the high roller order, and one of his dishes in the Cirque du Soleil order was the fave. He clearly should have made F2 based on that. Basically, his only problem was missing that one dish and not listening carefully to the instructions.

Tiffany, on the other hand, sort did the same thing by not listening to the instructions in the poker player order. The request was for snack food and all her dishes required utensils. To top it off, she was last place in the poker order; she was basically last place in the high roller order, with remarks made about poor slicing of her raw fish, poor plating/presentation and no flavor in either of her high roller dishes. Then her Cirque dishes also were panned as "too salty" "rubbery" "too fishy". I'm surprised to hear these bad comments about her dishes as she seemed to do well in the past, but based on that quickfire, her dishes were NOT good and she really should have been the one sent packing.

I'm guessing they kept Tiff for the "beetch" factor and to create drama. She was apparently strong in the past, but she failed miserably at the quickfire. I just know I'll be really disappointed if Harold doesn't win.

111. "RE: Dave Sent Home"
From Judge Bald-Kind-of-Cute-Guy's Blog:

(re the Napa challenge)

"But before I get into it, I'd like to say this: I wasn't at all happy with the outcome of tonight's show. I'm not even going to try to lie about it........ ... Dave, on the other hand, failed to impart any creativity or whimsy into his tired seafood nachos. His frenetic mindset showed itself in his cooking style: Even with the least complicated dish, he was frantic and disorganized, and his finished dish demonstrated a lack of fresh ideas.
The Quickfire challenge, while not granting immunity, was intended to be taken into consideration during judging of the Elimination Challenge. Sadly, it didn't happen that way....

....Enter Dave. In the past, his food has often been characterized by a lack of vision, and plodding technique. That was definitely the case here, with his truffle and cognac macaroni & cheese with beef filet and collard greens. But through happy accident, his was the dish that best picked up and integrated the flavors of the truffle (heavy cream will do that). I found Dave's hand-wringing presentation unprofessional and was unimpressed by his silly spiel about chocolate and wine. But Dave had two things going for him:

He didn't cook lamb.

On their day off, chefs don't want to eat 'restaurant' food. Frankly, after long days of fancy ingredients and elaborate cooking, our weary palates crave something mundane and homey. Like macaroni and cheese.

And his was good. Not excellent. It didn't require a hell of a
lot of skill, and certainly no finesse or originality. The accompanying filet of beef felt like an afterthought. But it was basic, it wasn't marred by truffle oil, and it tasted of comfort and familiarity. And it accomplished the goals of the challenge – the dish highlighted the flavor of the truffles and John Shafer felt it worked best with the wine.

Thus after a season of mostly generic and uninspired cooking, Dave – the weakest remaining hitter on the team – stood up in the 9th inning and sent one home. It was his Aaron Boone moment. Harold also did well, despite the gritty mushrooms – the chefs recognized his skill and the nuance of his choices.

Which left Tiffani and Lee Anne. Gail, Katie and I were sad because in our hearts we knew that both women belonged in the top three, but we were obliged to respect the guest judges' decision. Tiffani has had a string of successes, and has beaten her competition through sheer talent, hard work and force of will. Lee Anne has been consistent and often inspired. She has shown leadership, organization, and solid technique. And yet one of them had to go..."

And re the Las Vegas episode:

"So while Tiffani didn't win any of the challenges, she came in a solid second on all three. Harold won two. Dave won one and lost two. Frankly, his win at the snack challenge wasn't dazzling enough to make us overlook his mistake in the final challenge.

I saw this blunder as the equivalent of only feeding two out of three guests at a table. Even if the other two get great food, the mistake would leave the entire party with a bad impression, and there's a good chance none of them would be coming back to the restaurant. And I'm not sure Dave's explanation, "I made a mistake," would hold water. "

And from Judge Gail's blog:

"So Dave won my portion of the challenge. But he clearly lost the other two. The High Rollers (ie Lee Anne, Miguel and Stephen) saw right through his peel-and-eat shrimp and we had to disqualify him from the challenge, since he only completed two dishes where three were required. Sadly, the two he did complete were cast favorites. Who knows what he could have made as a third if he had paid a little more attention when the order came in?"

My take is, if a racer doesn't cross the finish line, they can't give him the silver medal. Nor the bronze. Plus, if you figure each dish got, say, 10 points, it is easy to see why a missing dish cost him. The blogs also give us a more complete picture; I think the Vegas episode was deliberately cut "against" Tiff so we'd think she was going home; the judges' evaluation of the challenge is different than what we saw.

If you go back over the season, Tiffani won more challenges or was at least in the top 3. Again, I am not saying I like her more; I think she's a better chef and I am glad it is her versus Harold (who will win) in the finale.

I enjoyed the finale and am SO HAPPY Harold won. He deserved it, overall, but I was worried because the judges kept stressing how "safe" he played it and the editing before that was favoring Harold, so I was worried he/we were being set up for a Tiff win.

I thought it was hilarious that Stephen (I always liked his neurotic control-freak persona) and Dave went out and partied the night before and had a hangover.

I'm so glad Tiff didn't win -- it never mattered to me all season that she was "strong" in her dishes -- her attitude towards the others AND the judges SUCKED. She would never, ever admit to any mistakes and always got all snippy when someone criticized her. A good chef TAKES critism. On so many levels she needed to lose.

I could not believe that she had the audacity to lie about DAVE's dessert. That took a pair -- she HAD to know that Dave would tell them that the dessert was all him. As Miguel said so in-eloquently -- "You're a snake! SSSSSSSSS!"

The other thing I thought was pathetic was that after Tiffany heard that all 4 of the "sous chefs" picked Harold as who they thought deserved to win, Tiffany turned on Harold like it was HIS fault, telling Harold: "I just backed into your knife." As though Harold stabbed her in the back. WTF? She was the reason for her own demise. Totally delusional. I hope she looks back on this as a learning experience and starts to treat people nicely and chill out. That poor girl has a HUGE chip she's carrying.

Dave was so far out of his league and didn't deserve F3, but he can turn it on when he needs to and I'm glad he had his little moment with his dessert.

Tiffany at the end breaking down -- I didn't feel sorry for her one bit. When you treat people the way she does, what does she expect but to be a loser and alone in the end?

Congrats to Harold. I hope his restaurant opens. I'll have to keep and eye on the news. I'd love to check it out once he's established.

I'd trade the Kenmore kitchen for what's behind Door Number Three, myself.

I am okay with Harold's win -- it was ever obvious. I knew from the previews when he was defending his simple menu that he would win. And his overall performance justifies the selection.

I was just reading the final blogs from Tom and Gail on the Bravo site. Interesting stuff -- dish by dish, point by point scoring details from the two parts of the finale (more clarification on why Tiffani beat out Dave in terms of points, stuff like her cart actually beat Harold's, except for his frozen chicken, so Harold actually came in third on that challenge, Dave first, Tiff 2nd -- it did NOT seem like that from what we were shown), and some other interesting tidbits. From Tom's:

1. Tiffani did change/contribute to the dessert presentation; it was not "all Dave's."

2. The producers did not get a say in outcome. Tom points out that if ratings were all, Ken would have been kept around longer. The producers' favorite was Miguel.

3. "In preparing her ambitious dual menus, Tiffani was handicapped by a nerve-wracking hurdle — namely two drunk sous-chefs. Dave and Stephen straggled in late after a long night of partying, still drunk! We're not talking about a boost-the-nerves airplane bottle of gin (hell, we've all been there). These two were plastered. Dave told us he was taking the high road by giving Tiffani his all, but his actions proved otherwise. Stephen had raised condescension to a new level throughout the competition when faced with amateurs and here he was, acting less professional than any of them. Amazingly, Dave left a full wineglass on the line, a taboo that even a rank beginner is taught to avoid: A broken glass would have meant every last bit of mis-en-place had to be tossed and the night would have been over. Dave took issue with Tiffani's curt request that he move the glass. Why? Because of her tone? Given what she had at stake, I think it was justified."

I didn't get to catch the whole episode, forgot it was on since I got into Lost.

However, I'm very glad that Tiffani didn't win. Her whole attitude just totally turned me off. IMO, she comes across as so pretentious and condescending to everyone, other contestants, and the judges.

Maybe her food was good, but she never considered who she was cooking for. When she had to prepare snacks for the poker players, she served things that were not easy to eat while playing cards, and that probably should have had a knife and fork with it. Also, one of the judges made a comment to Tiffani, in last night's episode, and she responded, saying something to the effect of, "I cook for myself, not for others. That's just too boring." Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought part of the joy of cooking was to see people enjoy your creations, and for the people you're serving to like the food, not just cook what you like, to me both Harold and Dave understood this. If the customers don't like the food, or get what they want, they aren't coming back to your restaurant.

I am SOOOOOO glad Tiffani didn't win! It was so obvious that she was trying to be 'nice' and 'upbeat' and failed miserably to be either, genuinely. Harold was the clear winner throughout the entire season. He has class and dominated all the challenges. I would definitely go out of my way to eat at his restaurant.

Did anyone else notice how tiny Tiffani's ears are compared to the rest of her head? Did she wrestle in high school? Play rugby?

SO great to see a FUN food show again! "BRAVO!" to BRAVO for having a winner on their hands!

The Food Network better watch out as the rest of the networks realize we LOVE our FoodTV and come up with creative programming ideas like TOP CHEF!!!

Harold was my easy choice for winner, but a more even battle in the finale would have been against LeeAnn, who had the same professional and people skills that Harold had. Instead of gaining points because of Tiffany's abrasive personaity, it would have been all about the food! YUM! I would eat at either of their places (Harold and LeeAnn's) ANY day! Dave's too, for that matter!

I've said it before and I'll say it again...the only thing this show needs is a new Host and the end of all the "Celebrity Winemaking Whores" as guest judges.

CHEERS to HAROLD and to next season!!!

I found Ms. Bracco's appearance annoying as well, although I can't really say why.

And I'd really like a different host. Hostess. This gal made the Chenbot look like Dame Judi Densch.

I am so glad Harold won. Too often, I am left unsatisifed with the ending of reality shows. This time they hit the mark. Harold was the most consistent throughout. Also, by the end of the show, I found him quite attractive not just whit his looks but his attitude and temperment. It was obvious that the other competitors had a great deal of respect for him and that speaks volumes.
