Seems like there is a huge amount of talent in this group – not as many throw away contestants as in seasons past. Although there seems to be some arrogance and big egos, nobody as yet appears to be a jerk, which I consider a good thing (although the previews show us trouble is brewing). I think most people understood what a “vice” is but for whatever reason some of them decided to create their own definition (note to Eve and Jen, a habit or a personality trait is not a vice). Ron seemed to have the most trouble with it and I’m not sure if it was something lost in translation or if he just wanted to make sure his story of coming to the US got out there. I really liked him so in the end I didn’t really care that he didn’t really fulfill the meaning of the challenge (and the judges apparently didn’t either). I think they just wanted to see what everyone was capable of their first time out and didn’t really care that much how “vice” came into their dish. Pretty good kick-off for the new season, but typical of previous seasons, meh. The Las Vegas angle should be dropped in the next episode, it is just ludicrous. Oh, you won at slots this week, you get a bye this episode, skurew the judging, yadayadayada. Not intested. I like seeing what the cheftestants come up with each week.
