Why is jasmine the only focus here as far as song choices? I think Jasmine is not the only unreliable singer in the group, too. Diana is just as unreliable. Let her sing a ballad and I'm sure she will butcher it as she did One Voice, Someone Watching Over Me, the Titanic song, and whatever that country Mcbride song. Fantasia maybe the most reliable of the group butshe is not 100% reliable. Remember the Gloria Estefan song, the Elton John song, the I Need A Hero Song, the Queen Song, and a few others. You might be surprised with jasmine tonight.

She is also the focus of the "tainted" votes. Maybe her father invested in a AT&T phone for the whole island and they are all power voting for her now. No votes or strategies is ever going to make her sing on key... Maybe Don Ho is retiring, he must be 100 and they are grrooming her to take his place.

I've stopped watching the series because it sucks so very, very hard this time around. However, someone I know has just been called to do a session tomorrow night (Wednesday) recording a choir for the show. 45. "Is Tina Turner Dead?" |
Because Fantasia just channeled her by singing the song that Simon picked out for her, "Fool in Love".That was absolutely amazing. I'm a Tina snob too. I've yet to find someone singing anything Tina besides Tina that didn't make me cringe. Fantasia nailed it and put it on the wall man! Clive said if this weren't a competition. If he were in a basement in Kansas and he heard what Fantasia just did? He'd sign her there on the spot. Simon, said...you need a sympathy vote so..."That was the worst thing I've ever heard!". Then he smiled and said, there...people will feel sorry for you and vote for you now. (Fantasia loved him for that, you can tell!) --now has Fool in Love in her head

I just want to push those bangs away from her face. Randy: Just allright Paula: You have the pipes for it. Hoped you would have made it different. Clive: Good choice of Randy's. Hit the notes well. Simon: 7 out of 10, that is a compliment I think her pants are from the same maker as the red octopus dress

I couldn't agree more, Kim. Diana's hairstyle is hideous!!The bangs are wayyyy over straightened, and look like pieces of straw hanging too far over her eyes, then there are the two chunks of hair that hang like limp noodles at around the chin level. Just an awful cut, with absolutly no style, whatsoever. But, I guess it looks ok from the back. I thought the pants were more flattering than her usual choices, but she really, really needs to get some sleeeves! *waves to eee* Overall, I've really hated the fashion this season. *shudder*

1. Greatest Love of All-usually I hate when they do Whitneys songs but this was GREAT. I agree with She, Fantasia "made it her own"2. Chain of Fools-Great, plus the DDD (deposits 10 cents in the grit kitty) 3. Don't Cry Out Loud-I loved the last note, great choice by Clive 4. Fool in Love-This was great too. I really loved Fantasia tonite--Clive is going to sign her no matter what 5. Aint No Mountain High Enough-I liked it better than Diana's second song 6. Because I loved you--Diana should also write a scathing letter to Randy for picking this god awful song for her 7-9 whatever the heck Jasmine was trying to sing. I agree, the WH song was too old for her and the All by Myself was down right awful. The one Paula picked by Natalie Cole was the "best" of the three. Only Randy chose a wrong song. What was he thinking, Celine Dion-Diana couldnt do the Titanic song, what made him think she could do this song??? Order 1. Fantasia by far ahead of the other two tonite-she gave me the chills tonite 2. Diana-last song did put her into top 2 3. Jasmine-just awful, but who knows....Simon hit the nail on the head-this JUST CANNOT GO ANY FURTHER!!!!!

I'm sorry, I just can't see what people like about Fantasia's voice. It's so grating and screechy. She is a hoot to watch perform, the DDD, all those hideous expressions, (although, not as hideous as Jennifer's awful theatrics) and mime type gestures. (Misto, I'm surprised Fantasia and her hand movements don't send you running from the room!)Overall, these final 3 all suck. Whoever wins will be labled the worst.winner.ever., and will tank in comparison to past winners and even runners-up. The only thing that has made this season interesting is the unpredictable voting. Sure, LaToya was good, but I really didn't miss her. The only one I miss seeing is John Stevens, because he made the show more entertaining. The judges were awful tonight! I don't know when they'll learn that the voters don't like to be treated like sheep. Quit TELLING me who to vote for. It's almost pathetic how they favor certain contestants, when, honestly, none of them are THAT great to begin with. They're over.the.top. praise for Fantasia tonight was a joke, and cost them any credibility they may have had. I guess they think the public are morons who will take their overblown endorsements as genuine, honest, comments. She's been bottom 3/2 plenty of times. Guess what? America doesn't like her voice. It's annoying, and there is no way in hell I'd want to listen to that daffy duck wail for several songs on a CD. I'd just as soon listen to the yappy dogs next door, bark all night. ugh.

What I like about Fantasia is that she can sing, unlike John Stevens.Well, obviously, I disagree with your opinion. I don't think she can sing, I think she sounds like a dead animal. She can perform, but IMO, her voice isn't pleasant to listen to. OTOH, I find John Stevens quite enjoyable. I hope that makes it easy for you to understand now. Unfortunately, I don't "understand", because I don't like the sound of her voice. In fact, I'd rather watch her gestures and expressions than listen to her CD. Without her over the top dramaitcs, I think she'll fall flat. Maybe she could hop on the Barry tour. He seems to like that kindof act.

I find it amazing that you don't like to have the judges telling you who to vote for, but you think nothing of coming here and telling us who we like and dislike. Fantasia will be fine, whether she wins or not, and she'll outshine both of the others, regardless. I didn't like her in the top 32, but she's won me over, too. I hated John Stevens from day one, and I live about 50 miles from his hometown. No way was I going to waste a minute on that flat-noted, boring, pasty boy. So, you have your opinion and I have mine, and that's why we're here. But, I do take a bit of offense for being called (indirectly) a "moron who will take their overblown endorsements as genuine, honest, comments." and "America doesn't like her voice." You don't want to listen to Daffy Duck, but apparently GOOFY was more to your liking? So buy GOOFY'S CD if he ever makes one, and leave Fantasia on the shelf, right? (We gotta b*tch or we'll explode!)

151. "Comment" |
I feel like just copying and pasting AyaK's comment from another thread, since he worded things so well. But then I wouldn't have a chance to ramble in that way that only I can. Folks, there is no one definition of criteria to specify what makes the "best" American Idol - it is purely a matter of opinion. - Some folks prefer one who's different. - Some folks prefer one who's a role model. - Some folks prefer one who sings on key. - Some folks prefer one who doesn't make strange gestures or facial expressions. - And some folks will vote for the person with the biggest breasts. I could go on and on, but you know where I'm going with this. There is no one definition of best. People are going to base their preferences on different criteria. So watch the blanket generalizations, because it should be obvious from this forum that there are three different favorites in the competition right now, depending on the opinions you read. And every one of those opinions is valid. Your opinion is not "more" right than anyone else's...it's just yours. But their opinion deserves the same level of consideration, because it's just as valid.

Ummm, nothing personal there idleg, indirectly or otherwise. Yes, I believe that the judges must think we're morons, since they have to hit us over the head with who THEY think we should vote for. Apparently, their perceived talent isn't very obvious to to the voters, since they've been putting Fantasia in the bottom 2 or 3. So, if she's in the bottom 2 or 3 a lot lately, it's not too much of a stretch to figure out that the voters (AMERICA) don't like her.You don't want to listen to Daffy Duck, but apparently GOOFY was more to your liking? So buy GOOFY'S CD if he ever makes one, and leave Fantasia on the shelf, right? Talk about trying to offend.

True,I didn't think I meant to offend at all. I respect your opinion about Fantasia, as to each his own. To quote you: "They're over.the.top. praise for Fantasia tonight was a joke, and cost them any credibility they may have had. I guess they think the public are morons who will take their overblown endorsements as genuine, honest, comments. She's been bottom 3/2 plenty of times. Guess what? America doesn't like her voice." How does that not mean to offend? I simply said that if you don't like it, you can buy John's CD. I certainly DID notice your 5,000+ DAW rating, so I figured I'd be outvoted. I didn't slam you any more than you slammed we "morons" in the public who don't like her voice, after all. When I was furious that Johnny Red was still around, plenty of people said the same thing. I really have had no clear favorite this year, but Fantasia has kicked butt and "in my opinion", deserves to get it, although it's not going to matter anymore. I don't consider my post any more offensive than your "opinion". (We gotta b*tch or we'll explode!)

My comment that you quoted bashes the judges. I'm sorry if that somehow offends you.I'll break it down if it helps. "They're (oops, typo here. Should say their as in the judges) over.the.top. praise for Fantasia tonight was a joke, and cost them any credibility they may have had. (I didn't think she was nearly as good as they proped her up to be, it was obvious they were trying their hardest to influence the vote. That's the joke.) I guess they think (again, the judges) the public are morons who will take their (see judges above) overblown endorsements as genuine, honest, comments.I didn't say people who like Fantasia are morons at all, I said that the judges must think the public are morons since they had to hit us over the head with their opinions. Big difference. She's been bottom 3/2 plenty of times. Guess what? America doesn't like her voice." Again, my feeling is that if she is in the bottom 2 or 3 repeatedly, it's because the voters don't like her as much as they do the other contestants. >>I find it amazing that you don't like to have the judges telling you who to vote for, but you think nothing of coming here and telling us who we like and dislike.<< I'm not telling you anything except who the voters (America) put in the bottom group, aka the least liked by said voters. I'm certainly not speaking for all the voters, or Fantasia would already be long gone. Now, please tell me how any of that is offensive to anyone expept the judges I'm commenting about? I just don't get it. Bebo tried to explain it above. It's my opinion, not a personal insult to you! >> I simply said that if you don't like it, you can buy John's CD. <<
I never said I would buy any of their CD's. Throwing John's name in there doesn't insult me, but nice try. >>I certainly DID notice your 5,000+ DAW rating, so I figured I'd be outvoted.<<
HUH? What does that have to do with anything? Where is the vote?? *boggle* >>I didn't slam you any more than you slammed we "morons" in the public who don't like her voice, after all.<< Oh really? >>You don't want to listen to Daffy Duck, but apparently GOOFY was more to your liking? So buy GOOFY'S CD if he ever makes one, and leave Fantasia on the shelf, right?<< That is a personal comment to me directly, I never made any such comments to anyone here. I find it rediculous that some people can get so bent out of shape when one of THEIR favorites gets bashed here, but dish it out in spades to the contestants that they don't like. *coughJohnStevenscough* If I got all insulted and offened every time someone here said that anyone who liked John or Jasmine must be a tone deaf idiot, I'd be working that alert button like mad. Bashing the contestants is encouraged here, and doing so does not equal personal slams against the contestants fans. If it did, than all the John haters would have been banned long ago, as they are some of the most vocal "offenders" around. For example- (and I didn't have to look far) >>No way was I going to waste a minute on that flat-noted, boring, pasty boy.<<>>I hated John Stevens from day one.<< >> I was furious that Johnny Red was still around<< I'm really getting tired of talking in circles trying to defend myself every time I bash a contestant here. If you were so insulted by my opinion, maybe you should take that into consideration the next time you bash a contestant. This competition is not about who's singing in tune.--Simon Cowell

Points well taken, True. Given your breakdown and ultimately more detailed explanation, you're right, I'm wrong, and you can sleep tonight, okay? What's the point of arguing when I'm not getting through about MY feelings on it? Everything you said was beyond reproach, and all I am is a relative "newbie" who just can't get it right. End of topic. I feel for the moderators here, with the constant babysitting they have to do. Especially when we new people just can't voice our opinions if they clash with the more established here. So, the heck with it. I have enjoyed my time here, and I have made some friends, maybe some enemies, but there's only one week left, so I'll just give it up. Bebo, Ayak, thanks for being great moderators and working so hard to help make it a nice place. I have had a lot of fun, but I will tune in one more time next week and then go my merry way. I see some people banter back and forth and it seems so senseless (see above in more than one instance) and I am not going to play the game. You win, True. I could dig up a few places where I've seen you go for the throat over and over again, but why perpetuate it? I felt bad about what you said. Darn. Who cares, after all. I'm just a newbie. We're not getting anywhere. You're RIGHT. I'm WRONG. Sleep well.

172. "LOCKING" |
I'm sick of babysitting as people fight for the last word.So I'll get the last word. - Moderators get tired of babysitting battles for the last word. You have an issue with another poster, take it to private message and spare the rest of us having to wade through the saga. None of us want to sit through your little spats. - Dramatic farewell posts may be satisfying to the poster, but most folks just roll their eyes. We've had too many people make dramatic exits from these forums only to return a few weeks later, so we're jaded. It's kind of like the posts where peeps say, "I'm not going to comment on this again", and then they promptly do. (And since we've all seen a number of these on this forum, you know where I'm coming from here.) - A number of people with high DAW counts have been banned from these forums for violating the guidelines. Yes, more newer posters get banned than older ones, but part of the reason people get those high totals is that they learn the rules and follow them so that they get to stick around. We want newer posters to feel welcome here, because we were all new once, but you have to be willing to follow the rules of the playground if you want to join in the games. I know quite a few posters with lower DAW counts who crack me up or make me think every time they post, and I enjoy reading their contributions to these forums. - I'm tired of getting PMs from people expressing their frustration at how X is jumping all over Y when their opinions conflict. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to stop receiving the messages when this behavior occurs and I want you to keep me in the loop. I'm just sick of it happening. I won't name names publicly, but I will start contacting some of you frequent offenders if I keep getting complaints about you in my inbox. You should be able to figure out who you are, but I'll be happy to clue you in should you need it. - My comment earlier in this thread was a subtle hint to respect the opinions of others and remember that opinions cannot be proven right or wrong, so quit jumping all over each other when you hold different opinions. Obviously, the hint was too subtle, given how this thread continued downhill. So I'm stopping it. Now.

94. "Note Clive's choices" |
LAST EDITED ON 05-18-04 AT 09:33 PM (EST)Clive picked three songs that he made hits during his years at Arista: "All By Myself" -- Eric Carmen, murdered by Jasmine "The Greatest Love of All" -- Whitney Houston (remake), sung by Fantasia "Don't Cry Out Lound" -- Melissa Manchester, sung by Diana Although each of these songs is a ballad, I think that the choice of original singers shows how Clive envisions the musical core each of these artists. Eric Carmen (the lead singer of the Raspberries before going solo) was a pop/rock singer. Whitney Houston was a powerful soul/pop singer before she turned into a co-dependent druggie (and her mom was one of the great backing singers ever). And Melissa Manchester was a Broadway-influenced folk/pop singer (who, like Barry Manilow, was one of the four artists inherited by Clive from Bell Records). Edited to add: what this means is that Jasmine would get songs like Kelly's; Diana would get songs like Clay's; and Fantasia would get songs like, probably, Tamyra's (though I haven't heard any of Tamyra's new CD yet).

118. "RE: Simon's Comments re Fantasia" |
surely mean that ol' Rule Britania reads these boards right? I mean why else would he think that Jasmine got through only because voters felt sorry for her unless he read that theory here first! He's not that inventive: I bet you he's copied those put downs he's apt to through at the contestants from posters. His comment about throwing a sympathy vote Fantasia's way was a not so subtle dig at the way votes are going. That's a bit demanding isn't it? So it's not enough that tens of millions bother to vote week in week out (I can just manage to eat and watch TV at the same time - remembering phone numbers? forgedaboutit!)now if the votes don't go the judges' (ha! as if) way there's a not so subtle putdown. I'd love it if no one voted one week: there guys is that Aiiight? Paula: oh I don't know, I'm so in love with the voters right now they can't do anthing wrong. Simon: What do you expect when Americans vote? Simon love that's the point, they didn't. Simon: That's right and you can find that at any 3rd rate Karyoke club. And wassup with that skin tight top he wears every week? It's too tight, I'm starting to suspect that he has chicken breasts stuck where the sun don't shine.

Fantasia is a terrible singer, she sounds like Daffy Duck try to sing. I would not have one of her CD if it was given to me FREE!!!. Last time I saw a mouth like that it had a hook in it.
