NightScribe 761 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Fitness Correspondent" 10-10-01, 04:56 PM (EST) "Who hasn't used FF?" As we get down to fewer teams, it'll be important to keep an eye on who has used their FF and who has not. We can do some speculating based on what their placing is and whether they have used up their FF pass. Teams (still left in the game) who have used FF Rob/Brennan (currently in sixth place) Festers (currently in 2nd place) Teams who can still use FF Emily and Nancy (impressively moving up to third place) Frank and Margarita (fourth place) Team Guido (first place for the third time in the race) Lenny and Karyn (last place for the second time in the race) Paul and Aime (fifth place) Preliminary speculation suggests that Rob and Brennan are really going to have to hussle to stay in the game at all, much less making it back to the head of the pack. They have no FF and they're in last place, so if they "pull a lenny" they're out. I believe the three teams to watch closely will be the festers, the Guidos, and Frank and Margarita. Although the festers have used their FF, they are in a very good position and seem to get better at the race as it progresses. They bickered and did just about everything wrong in the beginning, but their game is improving. They're worthy opponents and are upping the challenge of the game. Props to the baldies. The real battle will be between Frank and Margarita and the Guidos -- the theme was established in ep. 1 when Frank disclosed his feelings about the Guidos -- I think we'll see these teams in the final two. What will really be interesting is which one will use their FF first -- I think this will make the difference in who wins. I don't mention Paul and Aime, Lenny and Karyn, or the mom /daughter teams because I think theyve been typecast as the "losers" or "underdogs" and that they'll give a good try, but won't make the final three. I have no idea in what order they will go, but my hunch tells me that Lenny and Karyn's time has come. I still haven't decided who I think will win between team Guido and Frank/Margarita because I'm waiting to see who takes the FF. But, here's my wildcard pick: Nancy and Emily. They may have been typecast as the underdogs for a reason -- maybe they come from behind while everyone at the head of the pack fights and backstabs each other and just scoop up the FF and take it all!! That's why they call it a wildcard pick, I guess. Thoughts? Comments?   Top

LAST EDITED ON 10-11-01 AT 07:46 AM (EST) If you think about it the last team to use the FF was Team Fester. It did them little to no good, as I recall they may have only arrived 45 minutes ahead of team Guido. I think everyone is holding out now, knowing that the game ends up clumping the teams together everyday anyways. Hopefully it will mean more later in the race.   Top

I've been curious about why the FFs haven't been used lately too, but it seems to me these FFs will come in when the teams have some distance to cover again. Lately they've been such a short distance from their destinations that it would often take just as much time to find the FF as it would to simply complete the challenges. That said, I think that Frank and Margarita are going to have to resort to using one very soon. He tends to steer her off course. She's the bright, level-headed one, and his erratic, abusive behavior throws her off quite a bit (and why wouldn't it?). I almost think the Guidos won't use it unless absolutely necessary. They're so convinced that they know everything that they're more likely to simply slither through the challenges rather than take a short cut. I may be wrong, but that's the overall impression I have of these guys after the last couple of shows. Frau Hexe   Top

"Next Week's Fast Forward--Speculation" I thought I would revisit this since some new factors have come into play. Because Frank and Margarita as well as Team Guido were penalized for taking cabs rather than remaining on the train the entire way, according to TAR website, "In the end, they were given a time penalty that would require them to remain at the Pit Stop at the end of the leg longer than the other teams." Based on this, we don't know exactly how much longer than the usual twelve hours they will be required to stay, but I imagine it will be long enough for them to be a little frightened of their placing. Because of these circumstances, this is a perfect opportunity for either team to use a Fast Forward, and my guess is that one of them will. Now, we have vidcaps of what looks like Frank swimming in some very icey water, and some speculation surrounding those pictures has indicated he may be going for a FF. See Webby's post on the vidcap clues: Remaining show opening vidcap clues So, if we see the teams travelling to a nippy environment next, my guess is Frank and Margie are going for the FF. "RE: Next Week's Fast Forward--Speculation" Thanks for pointing that out (don't I feel dumb now!) You're right--my foggy little brain didn't remember the previews. Oh well--I do think it still stands though that Guido may try for it. They panic so much when peopel are ahead of them that they may have to, although I'm not sure they'd be willing to suck it up and take the short cut without proving how ultra-special they are to the rest of the teams.
