SurvivorBlows 15230 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Playboy Centerfold" 05-09-04, 09:14 PM (EST) "*** Summer Episode Summary Writing Planning ***" LAST EDITED ON 05-09-04 AT 09:20 PM (EST) Hi folks, as many of you are no doubt aware, there are going to be a *TON* of reality shows airing this summer, ranging from returning big hit shows like The Amazing Race 5, Big Brother 5, For Love Or Money 3 and The Simple Life 2, to smaller hits like Joe Schmo 2, Last Comic Standing 2, and Who Wants To Marry My Dad 2, to brand new shows like The Casino and Outback Jack. ...and that's not even counting the expected return of FOX's previously pulled Playing It Straight and Forever Eden series. By my count, that's a heck of a lot of possible episode summaries, so, rather than deal with all these shows on an individual basis, we're interested in polling the community to determine, given the expected overlapping schedules, etc. and our limited number of summary writers, which shows folks have interest in summarizing. Below is a listing of every upcoming show of which we're aware, its premiere date, and broadcast network. I'm assuming that since we've covered them for several years now, The Amazing Race and Big Brother are summary writing "no brainers" and AK or I will be starting signup threads in their forums shortly. Beyond that, I'm looking to determine which shows folks have interest in summarizing and the extent of that interest (By "extent of interest" I mean how many episodes are you interested in writing? One episode only? Tag-teaming with someone else and doing the whole run like AK/Bebo did on Apprentice, Swami/I_AM_HE did on Mad Mad House, or Swami/Schnookie Palookie did on Cupid? Taking on a whole show like Isabelle did for Top Model 2?) That's the purpose of this thread -- what do you folks feel like writing about this summer. And based on the responses, we'll then follow up with individual signup threads, etc., but, given there are so many shows, before we did that I wanted to try and gauge what folks are interested in. As a reminder, while all our summary writing is on a volunteer basis, etc. reliablity, timeliness (or at least status communication) is important, and that while we can't offer anyone any $$$, we do occasionally partner with companies to promote stuff and, if we can, I do try and pass some of the goodies along to the show's corresponding episode writers -- as I've recently announced we've been enable to do with all of the writers of ABC's two "Celebrity Mole" editions -- all of which will be receiving free "Celebrity Mole Hawaii" DVD collections courtesy of Eagle Rock Entertainment! Just wanted to throw my hat in for "PIS". There was a thresd already started, for summary duties, but since the show was canceled I guess I just wanted to make sure I still got at least one episode of that show to rehash. I also think that Vols and sagebrush were slated as well. As far as TAR and BB. I still am a little wary, but will probably speak up in other ways in those forums. Other than The Casino, I won't be watching any of the other shows. So I can't promise anything about those shows. Would you need a nip/tuck summary writer? When will they learn it's all just a game.   Top

And I'm disqualified from writing any of the remaining PIS summaries through a combination of lack of good taste and effectively having done it already, so what's the point? Beyond that... I'd like to try Joe Schmo 2 (one episode or more -- but I think people will be lining up for this one), Last Comic Standing 2 (again, one episode, and only more if available: expect a small crowd), Next Action Star (as many as necessary -- it might be interesting to track beginning-to-end, if you wanted to see how many I could finish before killing myself), The Simple Life 2 (one episode, period, as that's probably my nausea tolerance level), and The Casino (as many as necessary, but if you want an on-site reporter, you're paying for it). I could also do Outback Jack (alternating?) if it turned out to be sufficiently stupid. I'd also like to make a pitch for the final episode of Forever Eden, whenever that hits. I saw this thing into the world, and I think I can stand to see it out. There, that's all the bad ones. Anyone want to claim the actual quality on the board?   Top

ESPN averaged about 22 viewers a week; surely that's good enough for a renewal. Maybe I'll try my hand at the various poker shows that will pop up on Bravo and ESPN over the summer. If I had to pick a group of shows, then I would prefer to do LCS2, The Casino, The Simple Life 2, and either of the 2 big CBS behemoths (Although I would prefer to stay out of TAR since I enjoy the usual writers there so much, I'd do it with guilt). As I said, I'd do anything that needs to be done (and I mean anything from the 14th on, my time is a bit limited before that, but I could get a good one in as well. Just throwing my interest out there and looking forward to reading some of the great Amazing Race/Big Brother ones coming up. After going through all the lists and preferences, and looking at how many people are interested in which shows and for how long, etc., AK and I have come up with the following: - Since I posted this, FOX announced PiS and Eden won't be back, so we adjusted everyone's interest appropriately (at least I think we did ) - Assuming their offers still stand, we'd like to schedule FesterFan1 and Silvergirl to alternate on Last Comic Standing 2. - Assuming their offers still stand, we'd like to schedule Estee and MTW to alternate on Outback Jack. - Unfortunately it doesn't look like Who Wants To Marry My Dad will have enough interest to support a full writing schedule (sorry volsfan ) but if someone is really interested in summarizing this, please private message me. - We'll be opening up signup threads later tonight for the following shows. In the signup thread, I'll be noting the names of folks who expressed interest in the show, however if you still have interest in writing for the show, please post a response in that particular show's sign-up thread to confirm your interest. And if you have interest in summarizing an episode from more than one of the below shows this summer, it would be helpful if you could note the other shows in your posting so that we can try and ensure any proposed schedule doesn't schedule you for back-to-back summaries, etc. 1) For Love Or Money 3 2) The Casino 3) Joe Schmo 2 4) The Simple Life 2 5) Next Action Star - Lastly, since we first posted this thread, ABC has announced two other summer shows, Ultimate Love Test (premiering today, June 2) and The Two-Timer (premiering June 23). "re: Tag-team assignments" LAST EDITED ON 06-03-04 AT 06:38 PM (EST) Hello, even though I'm pretty sure everyone's above comments are in jest, I just want to be clear that absolutely no slight was meant toward anyone with regard to my tag-team assignment decisions, nor was there frankly any great mystery to it -- in order to assign a tag-team twosome to a show, it required the volunteering of at least two tag-team writers... and if you look over the list, Last Comic Standing 2 and Outback Jack were the only shows to meet those requirements. All the other shows have open sign-up threads (except "Dad 2," which only had meager interest... and with volsfan being the only person to express interest in it who also didn't express interest in at least one other show) and if anyone is interested in potentially doing multiple episodes of a series, I think I mentioned, just note it in the appropriate open signup thread and I'll try and sort it all out when we do the assignments. In the specific case of LCS2, the situation was also additionally magnified by a case where every other volunteer also expressed interest in other shows. For Outback Jack I'm not sure we were so lucky, and for that I apologize. Thanks, SB   Top
