Anyways, have been a big idol fan all three seasons but I had never once, not a single time, placed votes until last night.........I did the redial thing for Jennifer several dozen times (what's this going to cost me on my phone bill I wonder?). It is not possible for the person with more votes then anyone last week , according to Seacrest, to be dead last this week. Like thousands and thousand of people just skipped voting last night? I saw that TV guide poll too, even with LARGE margins of error, there is no way those three ladies could have been in the bottom three. I am now convinced someone or something (AT&T, AI, an insider that hacks on the sly, an error in which number identified which contestant???) is really, really amiss. I was impressed with Jasmine last night for the first time, George does nothing for me and last night was one of his worst performances, LaToya although her voice amazes me, I find her performances a bit boring, John is a little cutie but hits way to many bad notes and Diana is like a see- saw, guess that leaves Fantasia as my favorite now. Still, I can only blame the judges for putting these young kids up there only to criticize them for being young. I really think LaToya should win. She's a fantastic performer, has a beautiful voice, and she has been very consistant. I love George and his big personality. I don't think Jasmine is nearly as awful as some seem to think. I thought Diana was a lot better in the early auditions. Fantasia can certainly perform, and she's got a lot of energy, but her voice is too screechy and grating for me. The vote sucked, but I agree that they were in the bottom both because they share the same fanbase (mostly made up of those who like talented singers) and because the three of them ~are~ so much better than everyone else out there, they automatically get considered safe by everyone and so votes are thrown towards people like Diana and Jasmine to eliminate a less worthy contestant. Whatever you may think Ruben ~won~. People who complained weren't "white America", they were crazy Claymates. They also had some base for that argument, considering how well known it is that the phone lines set up last year were not capable of handling all of the incoming calls and how close the vote was, but whatever, Ruben still ~won~. Also Kim Locke and Trenyce placed 3rd and 5th, respectively, and Justin and Tamyra placed 2nd and 4th in the first season. And please don't take anything away from Kelly until you've seen her performances. She was the best this show's ever seen (and then they turned her into a pop-princess). American Idol has never been about racial voting.   Top

When someone has a really good night and has praise piled on them, their fans aren't as motivated to vote. There was no urgency to vote for Jennifer, Fantasia or LaToya because they performed really well. Everyone assumed they would be safe. So their fans didn't feel compelled to vote 500 times each because they didn't feel it would be necessary to keep them in the competition. George had a crappy night - his fans needed to vote en masse. John Stevens is perpetually in danger and his crappy rendition of Mandy got his fans to the phones. Jasmine and Diana have been in trouble so many times that their fans knew they'd have to work the phones last night to keep them around. Simon has practically said that the three divas would be the final three - it's easy for their fans to not worry about them each week. The judges are as much to blame for this as the dumbasses who keep voting for John Stevens. I feel really bad for John Stevens - people hate him and he doesn't look like he even wants to be there. It's not his fault that these idiots vote for him all the time. I think if I were him I'd say you know what don't vote for me - I'm not ready yet. I always feel bad for the John Stevens, the Nikki McKibbons, the Josh Gracins and the Carmen Rasmussens - people hate and resent them and it's just not right. If you want your favorite to be in there til the end, vote like they suck and their ass is on the line.   Top

However, I've said it before and think it bears repeating...No one on this version of AI is nearly as talented as those featured on Star Search. That being said, I don't think the vote has been a black/white thing either. (I'm a southern, white female (from AL) that proudly voted for Ruben last season - although I liked Clay too. I've only voted a couple of times this season but each time it was for George.) I think it's more of an age thing, as far as the voting goes. I also agree with whoever said that it's not right for the judges to pick the talent and then criticize them for their age...they knew their age when they picked 'em...if it was an issue, they never should have made the cut!   Top
