"S28 Confessionals Tracker"
Worst start of a season ever! WAAAAAAAA.... I mean. Probst, how could you? You demented egomaniac!!! How could you???

No main titles? No snazzy new variation of "Ancient Voices"? No showing all the newbies with their credit names so I can at least finally see how they will all most probably be credited in their confessionals and have it all in one place real handy?

You stinker!!!

Fortunately, after that, or rather despite that since it wasn't there for anything to be after it, the show got much better. Way better.

Anyway, this is the thread for all things confessionals, or rather tracking them, but you all can use it for anything confessional it occurs to you to do. as in

Potential winning quotes! Like

Spencer: I will go down as one of the best players to play and I want to play an awesome game.

2. "RE: Week 1"
Thanks for doing the confessionals, dabo! I always enjoy them and I personally get so much information out of them. I am also glad to see that you divided them between first episode/boot, and second episode/boot.

Since we have concluded that the Beauty's will be going to TC in the next episode, let's take a look at their counts. Interesting that Morgan got the most confessionals in the first ep/half. She was one of the ones labeled the weakest, and she got the title quote, "hot girl with a grudge", setting up a nice rivalry with the star puzzle master from their tribe and leader, LJ. She was also the only one that received a clue and was not able to find the HII, she's cute and hot, but not much in the brain department. I can't help but feel that the two that chose to not give more rice for their tribes will wind up short in the end. Garrett already is out of the game, so I can't help but to wonder how long Morgan will last in the game. Morgan took a nice dip in the second half of the first episode.

After being chosen the leader of the tribe and a great first challenge and second challenge performance, LJ got 3 confessionals the first half, then fell under the radar. I think LJ is good for now.

Alexis got 3 confessionals, I thought were related to narrating...then she fell off the radar. She could be a surprise boot the next ep....?

Jefra is just like Alexis, got 3 in the first half, and then fell under the radar. She too could be a surprise boot next ep...?

Jeremiah was quite impressed with Morgans assets. He was asked by Brice to go with he and Morgan. He agrees, but did he really? I don't know? While he was impressed with Morgan, was he with Brice? We don't really know anything about how he feels towards anyone else in his tribe. He only had one confessional then fell under the radar, yet I don't get the feeling that he is in trouble at this point in the game.

Brice: Brice seemed like a trouble maker to me. He chose to align with Morgan, the outlier, the one chosen as the weakest by the newly appointed leader. Sure, she's a easy one, she'll grasp at anything. Then, Brice pulls in Jeremiah, but again, I question whether Jeremiah just appeased them, who is he really with? Brice got one confessional in the first half, and 2 in the second. I don't know? I am not convinced he's safe either.

So at risk for me: Brice, Jefra, and Alexis...

3. "Week 2"
Zeroes this week went to big Cliff an in your face Lindsey. As for the rest of the Brawn tribe, Tony and Sarah surged up! Tony reached double digits first, if the "he's playing too hard too fast" theme continues he is toast.

Fascinating that so far this season it has been slaughter of the guys and not the traditional sacrifice of the eyecandy.

Meanwhile, on the Bea-oot tribe, Alexis and Jefra continue to twin, Jeremiah and L.J. bumped up, Morgan got an afterthought confessional. While on Brainscan Spencer and Tasha got slightly more attention than Kass and Ricekiller.

4. "RE: Week 2"
It would seem that Tony came to play and with the drivel that the other contestants are spewing you just wouldn't know what their intentions are. I don't know if I'd be drinking buddy of Tony's but I appreciate that he is doing something although he might scare the other rabbits into voting him out if he trips up and people start talking.

6. "Week 4"
Swap week, and things are shaking up nicely. The remaining Brains seem tight while the Beauties and Brawns are stirred up.

Jeremiah got the lone zero this week, which may or may not be a good thing. Sarah had a couple of early confessionals and then went UTR, which is good for her short term.

L.J. pulled in the most confessionals this week, a tremendous bump which got him into double digits and to the top of the totem pole. Spencer continues to get the qualitative best confessionals, and he and Tasha reach double digits as well, also climbing. Boot Clifford the Mountain also had some good qualitative confessionals, though.

Trish re-emerged playing the game-changer, and Jefra seems poised to get her game on. Lindsey and Woo got some reminder attention while continuing to share the bottom of the totem pole.

7. "Week 5"
Well, things are shaping up. Tony grabbed the spotlight this week, big pre-merge bump, heavy 5 on the hubris. Spencer got a steady as she goes 3. Woo seems to be out of the running at the bottom of the totem pole. Jefra is nearly out of the running as well, though she did get a little traction going this week. Zero of the week belonged to Morgan. Kass and Trish and boot reach 10.

8. "Week 6"
LAST EDITED ON 04-03-14 AT 09:37 PM (EST)

Merge Week, and what a week! This week II winner Woo gets his first zero, basically 1 less than usual. Not a good sign. Morgan also zeroed, two weeks in a row, though she did get to read treemail and the camera found her a lot. I mean a Lot! And I'm fine with that because I just came to watch Survivor and instead I found true love, oh my yes!!! Morgan Morgan Morgan, that sly LizLiz smirk, so cool and collected no matter what, and oh those big big eyes, I just.. wait, did I just say that out loud?

Anyway, Kass gets a huge bump this week, no surprise considering the power play she made this week. And, actually, though it was mighty risky and dangerous, she still has options and could go on an interesting run for the money. Next week will tell.

As for the rest of the episode, it was pretty much The Tony Show and Sarah's crash and burn. Tony still owns the top of the totem pole. Spencer maintained his steady 3 as his game took a hit near the waterline. Jefra, Jeremiah, L.J., Tasha and Trish made timely appearances as their parts in events came up. Two HIIs wasted but a superpowered HII waiting to be found in the woods!

9. "Week 7"
LAST EDITED ON 04-10-14 AT 12:18 PM (EST)

Lot of ominous zeroes this week (Jefra, Jeremiah, L.J., Tasha, Trish). Boot Morgan got a couple of confessionals (after two weeks in zeroland) and then went to TC to tell Kass everything Kass needed to hear to keep up the Morgan hatred. Spencer 7 (big bump) and Tony 5 again share top spots, while Kass 4 settled down a tad. Joining the players this week was Woo 3, up frorm the previous week as a zero, out of the cellar and showing the only upward bump on the totem pole. But he, Jefra and Jeremiah have yet to break double digits.

Thank you sooooo much for continuing to do these, dabs!
Even though I don't comment on the weekly stuff, I still use these confessional threads often. I am constantly going archive diving for the old ones too, to do comparisons and such.
So... a huge thank you!

Ditto what Tribey said, dabo! I LOVE the confessionals tracker, so thanks for all the hard work. And, I will comment on them this week, because they are indeed leading us down the path, imo.

This week, Jefra, Jeremiah, Tasha, LJ, and Trish falling under the radar. I think they will all be safe. And, that's interesting considering Jeremiah has been in the minority alliance and is one of the 2 males left in that alliance, and he's the only other male in the minority alliance without an HII.

Then, we have those that were steady with the confessionals, and all of a sudden have a spike....Woo and Spencer this week. Huge spike for Spencer. The beginning of the end, imo. I don't know but it's disconcerting.

Kass. She had a big spike last week, and came down slightly. Could her arc have peakead already and now we are seeing her last hoorah? She's extremely questionable as well, imo.

Regarding Tony...his arc is still high, but not quite done, imo.

For me at risk this week: Woo, Spencer, Kass. Let's face it, Spencer has an idol to play still so more than likely it will not be him that is booted this week, which makes Woo and Kass the most at risk??

First, let me add my voice to the chorus. Thanks Dabo for doing this every week. It's a great resource!

FloPo, why don't you think Tony is on the danger list? With 5-6-5 confessionals over the past 3 weeks, to me it looks like his story could be played out. He's playing hard, too hard, and its going to bite him either this week or next, IMO.

Spencer's 7 confessionals is a flag too, although Kass had 7 confessionals the prior week.

I love how they are giving a more even edit to everyone and not telegraphing the boots to us.

Hi CTGirl! Yes, I think Tony's editing arc is definitely coming to fruition. I think he's in trouble, but I don't see it this week. I could be dead wrong. Clearly with him going paranoid this week I expect him to get a larger peak...I suspect he will live to see another episode. He is one of the stars of the season. I just don't see him out next.

Spencer, I agree I don't think he's going anywhere yet, but I do think these spikes are troublesome for him in the future. We'll see.

I am worried about Woo this week and wouldn't at all be surprised to see Kass go either. Tony could be all set to vote for Woo then Kass does something that makes him recognize her position in a new light...

PS. What the heck do I know, all speculation.

Spencer won the RC, found the HII and won the IC so his spike of confessional is not worrying me at all.

I agree. However, if Spencer hadn't received confessionals after winning the IC or finding the idol I would be very worried about him.

But really, who knows, this season has been all over the place with the usual rules and reliable theories being mixed up with the bucking trends and irregular exceptions.
Large spikes "usually" lead to end-story.
Yet, zeroing out also means that someone is in danger.
Pride cometh before the fall unless... Pride lead-eth away from danger.
CT theory says it's the quick glimpse of the non-related person kinda squished between the plot points, naked theory says it's the one right up-front. Tribe theory states that the 5th boot and the 9th boot are more often than not the ones that lead people astray the most. (Then again at F7 and possibly F5 but much more predictable by then.)
Etc. etc.
And guess which boot we just past? Yup. 5th boot.
So according to my own drat-blasted theory these next 3 boots should be easy.

Therefore, I just don't think Spencer is out of danger this week. Despite his, or would that be... concurrent with his, recent Confessional Boost.
I believe that he will think he is safe when he truly isn't.
From a gameplay standpoint everyone knows the cards Spencer is holding and he has done NOTHING to integrate himself with the majority. Granted, waiting for the majority to split is a valid game "move" to some of these people. But going for Tony? NOT a smart move.

LAST EDITED ON 04-11-14 AT 10:16 PM (EST)

LAST EDITED ON 04-11-14 AT 10:14 PM (EST)

Okay. Last two boots -
Sarah 3+2 3 3 2 1 6 | 20
Morgan 6+1 1 2 1 0 0 2 | 13
The pattern here is early spotlight and then decline. Sarah got the spotlight again during her boot story. Morgan vanished and then reappeared for her boot.

Jeremiah SA$ 9
Woo AS$ 9 ^
Jefra SS$ 8
From the totem pole I would say that Jefra, Jeremiah and Woo are all equally in danger, simply because none of them can win and in all likelihood none will make it to FTC.

Tasha and Trish are in danger of falling out as well, though from the edit Tasha is paired with Spencer and Trish is paired with Tony. These are really our only power couples.

Spencer LA$ 5+1 2 1 3 3 3 7 | 25
Tasha LA$ 3+2 2 1 2 2 1 0 | 13 38
Tony AS$ 3+3 5 1 2 5 6 5 | 30
Trish AS$ 3+1 1 0 3 2 1 0 | 11 41

At this point in the game the pairs should be thinking about breaking up the other pair. (L.J. could also be paired with Jefra, but as they both zeroed this week they are at best UTR in the game.)

Back to the totem pole:

There are three Beauty remaining, one in the middle of the totem pole, two at the bottom.

There are three Brain remaining, two at the top and one in the middle.

There are three Brawn remaining, one at the top, one in the middle, one at the bottom.

Patterns

Jefra has been low profile throughout, despite having been targetted. Safe at the moment. But also a potential quitter.

Jeremiah has an eratic pattern and is at risk.

Kass was low profile but transformed into high profile these last two weeks, I'd say she's at risk. I'm tempted to say high risk but that would just be wishful. (She also seems to have a wicked witch habit of hating on Dorothies.)

L.J. had a good streak going then went into decline. That fits the Morgan/Sarah pattern so he is at risk. But they can't repeat that pattern with everyone so don't read too much into it.

Spencer and Tony have both been high profile, with minor dips. Spencer was pretty steady but had a huge spike this week, which isn't good. Except he does have an idol, and everyone knows he had the clue, and basically he made the mistake of not continuing to keep looking after he found it.

Tasha and Trish both seem relatively safe this time (though either could be another Dorothy).

Woo was low profile but got into the spotlight now, opposite of the Morgan/Sarah pattern, so he is somewhat at risk this time.

Dabo: I love that you chipped in and gave us your analysis! I also agree with the outcome...at risk: Kass/Spencer/Woo....I don't know about Jeremiah yet. He is an enigma, always seems at risk, yet last week his name never came up. Makes me wonder if he has some kind of hidden tie to either LJ or Jefra, his former beauty's?

But, I have a few questions regarding how you arrived with these conclusions. First of all, I assume that the "totem pole" is the hierarchy with how many confessionals they have received throughout the game so far? At the top, the fewest, at the bottom, the most?

I liked that you noted the pairs. I would say that LJ is paired with Jefra, but he could also be considered paired with Tony, or paired with Trish at this point. Having the most options.

Historically, I have noted that the boot either has a rise in confessionals, spike, just before the boot episode, (they fall into drama of some sort), or a sharp decline, (aka the hidden boot), and if they have no real change in numbers of confessionals and are booted, they are most likely not really contributing or significant to the story? (?)

Then we have stars of the show that get tons of confessionals, above and beyond everyone else...Robfadda, RussHell, and even Coach come to mind, all stars of the show.

I wish Corvis would come in here and weigh in. I loved the breakdown of the confessionals as well, re: the dynamic confessionals speaking to the machinations of the tribe and strategy, vs the narrating confessionls. Or something like that.

Thanks so much, dabo. I enjoy your thoughts, please keep them coming!

The totem pole isn't a literal totem pole, but simply a list of the remaining players in order from most confessionals throughout to fewest. Since one or more player can drop off the totem pole each week numerical rankings are meaningless, what is of value is seeing how the remaining players position relative to each other.

The counts themselves are a limited way of viewing the series, a tool, mainly a way of looking for whatever stands out.

Kass has been a narrator though. She's gotten a word in EVERY week even when she didnt have much confessionals. Like this past week, did they need to show her having a confessional and or asking Trish if they're good? She also got a word in and the final confessional when nuappari went to the last TC with the title quote. If she wasnt meant to be an important player they wouldnt be showing her at the center of so much strategy.

Take for instance Vanuatu, Scout was a narrator in confessionals and Twila was a strategist and because of that they outlasted Eliza. Kass has been a narrator and a strategist this season. Even Dreamz was constantly shown and he went final three. They don't always win but they are there until the last episode. I'll be surprised if Kass goes before the final two episodes at least. Otherwise Survivor would not have been showing so much of her.

And Tony hates her on Twitter so does he hate her because he voted her out? Why would he hate her for that? Kass doesnt seem like the type thats going to insult Tony at FTC as a jury type. I know people don't want to admit it, but hated contestants go far all the time. Kass is a endgame player unless Survivor editors are planning to throw people off that way and then suddenly give Tasha and Jeremiah airtime toward the end. Now Tony has gotten airtime too but he has been over the top basically those types always end up falling short. He could go anytime now. Kass has had a nice balance of high and low confessionals with low ones coming at the right time.

LAST EDITED ON 04-18-14 AT 02:33 PM (EST)

This week Trish prophesized: If any one of those three go to the end they win. So clearly our winner is Jeremiah. Or Spencer. Or Tasha.

Everyone got some attention, mostly storydriver Tony 8 and boot L.J. 5. After two weeks as a storydriver Kass 1 is back into low profile. Beginning of her demise? Spencer 3 settled back down as Tasha 3 and Trish 3 returned. Woo 2 and Jeremiah 1 finally reach double digits, leaving Jefra 1 alone in the cellar. Woo again has the only upward mobility on the totem pole.

Add "place your balls back on the platform" to the things Jiffy says to even the playing field. Psychologically, you know, in guy-ear that's kind of disturbing.

This week everyone got on the board, though boot Jeremiah 1 nearly missed out. Jefra 2 finally reaches double digits, and still holds the cellar with Woo 2 keeping pace. No motion on the totem pole but Tasha 2 and Trish 3 are closing the gap between themselves and Kass 1. Tony 5 and Spencer 4 continue to run the show.

in which Probst summed up the entire season for us, saying, "Tony goes crazy and knocks his balls all over the place!"

Spencer 7 and Tony 9 continued to drive the story, the overdog and underdog. Boot Jefra 1 vacated the cellar leaving Woo 1 its sole remaining occupant. No positional changes on the totem pole, though Kass 3 (indulging her inner sadist) and Tasha 3 (wearing her smiling game face) put a little distance between themselves and Trish 1.

In which we finally got to meet the real what's'isname. And said bye-bye to one of our beloved Brains. They survived a long time on that firing line, would have been fantastic to see them muscle through another round together, it just wasn't to be.

Kass 9 surged this week, closing the gap between herself and Tony 4 and Spencer 5; a good showing (for the kid) though losing Tasha 3 has to hurt. And Woo 3 turned out to be a really nice guy, good with kids, who hasn't the first clue how to lie. No places switched on the totem pole, though Trish 0 has now joined Woo in the cellar.

Harkening back to my recollection of the eventual winner being placed either in 1st or 3rd/4th on the totem heading into the finale... This is the first season with so few players left an episode BEFORE the finale.
But in 1st is Tony
and in 3rd/4th is Kass and Trish.
One of Tony, Kass or Trish is our winner. (And we can pretty much cross Kass's name off too.)

Recent Winners: Tyson (1st), Cochran (1st), Denise (3rd), Kim (1st), Sophie (4th), Rob (1st)

Agree that we can rule out Kass. Spencer could still pull it off, but it would probably take him going on an immunity streak to get to the end (the totem pole hasn't encountered that situation in a long long time).

Trish at 4 is the most Sophie-like player we've seen since, well, Sophie; loyal and sticking to the plan (even though Tony hasn't stuck to the plan, he left Trish out of those upsets; whereas Sophie was always involved in Ben's discussions and able to steer things back on-plan).

And here we are heading into another Survivor finale. Been a good season, hope the finish doesn't fall flat.

This week we said bye-bye to Trishitor 3, who pulled a repeat of the early jury boots by purpling last week. No real motion on the totem pole, though Kass 7 pulls closer to Tony 5 and Spencer 6. Woo 4 way down at the bottom still, would be a totally hidden winner.

Tyson was in last after first episode. Brad and then Vytas spent most of the season at top.
However, by the merge, Tyson was 2nd only to Vytas.
After Vytas was sent to Redemption, Tyson took over the confessional totem.

Cochran actually started at the top was taken over by both Reynold and Phillip temporarily. By the merge episode, Cochran took the lead again and stayed there.

Kim's season, confessionally, was all about Sabrina and Alicia (With Matt and Colton getting lots of coverage early on). Troyzan and Kim stayed fairly close to each other in counts and were kind in the middle of the pack for a large portion of the game, even post merge. Leading up to his ouster, Troyzan took over the lead, but after he was booted Sabrina and Kim took over the top spots. With Kim only leading in the last 2 episodes before finale.

Thanks Tribe. That's pretty much what I remembered. It's rare that, like Tony, the winner is the front runner all season long especially with that big a lead. Like most of the idols, the winner was hidden in plain sight!

Plain sight, indeed.
Add to that Tony's refusal to play by any known rules (putting Hantz to shame) and it seems like a forehead-slapping moment for me.
OR more like "eye-opening".

This season was actually edited and teased in a very erratic and unpredictable manner. What was theory one week, was myth the next. So no surprise, really, that the guy who has been telling us all along that he was gonna win, ended up winning.
