I hate to knock this, Joey is a great character, but NBC may be handing over Thursday nights to CBS (Survivor) with this move. The show itself may turn out to be excellent, but the network should be planning (and working on) having a strong proven hit in that important lead-off time slot. Unfortunately, for NBC, Frasier is on the wane, Will and Grace is strong but extremely risque, none of their other shows have the powerhouse quality to secure that slot. NBC needs a building year or a breakaway summer hit.

I can understand why NBC is doing this, but I really have to question whether this is going to work. Pre-Survivor, I used to be a big Friends viewer, but I stopped taping it somewhere around S3 and haven't seen the show except 1-2 times since.

First off, for Friends fans I have to think this pretty much kills any suspense that Rachel and Joey are going to end up living happily ever after -- and hasn't the Rachel/Joey/Ross triangle been played up as a maor stoyrline for the last season? Talk about your major spoiler leaks...

Beyond that, these types of things are always tricky. Ya, Frasier worked for them 10 years ago, but I dunno... but then again I'm sure folks were saying the same thing 10 years ago. The only difference of course is that back then Kelsey Grammer hadn't already been making $1,000,000 an episode on Cheers (although the reports are that LeBlanc will make much less on "Joey.")

The reality is this show is only happening because LeBlanc is the only one of the six who would do a spinoff -- all the rest of the cast have had some decent big screeen successes and have no interest (at this time) in doing any more television work. And with the $70-80 million that NBC has paid EACH OF THEM over the last half a dozen years or so, there's no chance of getting any of them to do anything they aren't completely sold on.

If I were Matt I probably would have accepted the offer, too.

But it's going to flop, and he should already know this, so maybe he should have tried for something else.

I don;t know if this can make it or not.
The odd thing is that none of these network execs can see the forest for the trees. Didn't they realize several years ago that they needed replacements for their 'Must Pee T.V.' What did they try....Hello Miami....come on.....I still love ER, but that will be one of the few things I will be turning to NBC for next year.

I don't think it will make it. Friends should end then have a reunion somewhere down the line. I know Fraiser worked and I (actually my DD) hopes this works because she loves Friends.

6. "RE: Joey?"
"Joey has emerged as the character America roots for and loves"

Huh? Roots for? Joey??? Joey has great one-liners and bits, but I never felt he was a strong character that could stand on his own. The whole falling in love with Rachel thing was boring at best.

7. "RE: Joey?"
I think it COULD work. There will be a lot of celebrity appearances (I'm sure the Friends cast will all be around at some point) and I think it could have potential for a good run. Survivor viewership could dwindle if it hits. And I don't think there are any current shows out there that would be a better risk.

I'm willing to give it a shot. Odds are good that after a million flopped sitcoms, one will turn out good.

I don't think NBC is stupid enough to put this on Thursday against Survivor. Like Frasier, it will probably start out in a "safe" time slot. I think NBC is hoping Coupling takes off, they want to use that to replace the new "Friends".

When NBC announced it, they also said it would be airing in the Friends timeslot. Something makes me think Mark Burnett ordered some fresh Matt LeBlanc headshots for his dart board...

I don't think it will work.
Frasier worked because, the character, wasn't really a major part of cheers towards the end, he was more of a recurring guest star, at that point, even though he was still listed in the credits every week, he didn't have a major role in very many eps, during the last few seasons.

but friends has always been about the 6 of them, if you take obe out it's just not the same,
