Ahtumbreez 10456 desperate attention whore postings DAW Level: "Playboy Centerfold" 07-23-03, 08:04 AM (EST) "Monster House" Anybody watching this show? It's like While You Were Out kinda, only on crack Actually, they do much better quality work, making sure everything is up to code and stuff, but what they do is wild. A tiki god out of a fireplace, a shipwreck with monsoon in backyard, etc. It's on Discovery on Monday nights with a rerun sometime during the weekend. It was well done, tasteful and gorgeous. I loved they did an ancestral shrine for the family and the hot tub was to die for. The backyard koi pond was also beautiful. Unfortunately they then followed that with the Tropical house that included a floor to ceiling, fire spewing, smoke spouting, fake stone Tiki god fireplace. Why did the Zen house work and almost none of the others? So far that is the only one where the homeowners were both women and there was a woman as part of the build crew so the testosterone level was substantially lower than usual. They also included a few yoga sessions to keep them calm. And the host, Steve, didn't appear to be nearly involved as he has been with others.   Top

"RE: Monster House" I'm a huge fan of Monster House (and Discovery's other two Monday reality shows; Monster Garage and American Chopper). But then I am a mechanic who also likes to remake things (wether its a good idea or not). "Monster" concepts have been around for years so for us who like the "cool factor" of taking things to the extreme, this is pure eye candy. But creeping middle-agedness keeps popping up with me: "How the hell are they going to sell that house when its time to move on?" And I can't help but wonder what it is like to wake up one morning in a depressed mood and be faced with a Tiki god glowering at you. For those of us who like techno ingenuity and wild imaginations run amok, this is a great show (and maybe deter us from taking a hammer to our own dry wall).   Top
