PLEASE NOTE: The Reality TV World Message Boards are filled with desperate
attention-seekers pretending to be one big happy PG/PG13-rated family. Don't
be fooled. Trying to get everyone to agree with you is like herding cats,
but intolerance for other viewpoints is NOT welcome and respect for other
posters IS required at all times. Jump in and play, and you'll soon find out
how easy it is to fit in, but save your drama for your mama. All members are
encouraged to read the
complete guidelines.
As entertainment critic Roger
Ebert once said, "If you disagree with something I write, tell me so, argue
with me, correct me--but don't tell me to shut up. That's not the American way."
Gothmog is 100% correct here. A college prof who teaches advanced algebra as one of his courses gotta stick up for another teacher who teaches an elite group of kids that work with numbers (long story).
If they were to draw and then reveal one at a time, then yes the configurations change for each person, but that's not how they do it. In reality, each of the eight people involved have an 1-in-8 (12.5%) chance of getting the purple rock because they each reveal their rocks at the exact same time, so the odds are the same for everyone at the time. 12.5 plus 12.5 plus 12.5 plus 12.5 plus 12.5 plus 12.5 plus 12.5 plus 12.5 equals 100 percent.
As Goth put it, 8 in 5040 wouldn't work because there are only eight rocks total to be drawn, there aren't 5040 rocks.
