Considering strategic reasons for who Rob should vote off next (from the Zaps), I would think Ralph's his best choice:Ralph - Ashley thing; only Zap left who appears to be scrambling - He's found an HII before and we know Rob has idol paranoia - He's a bit of a challenge threat - Best bet to give Matt/Mike/David some competition on RI Julie - Good at certain types of challenges; could provide some competition on RI - Cult comment/she's on to Rob - She could team up with the women (Ashley/Andrea) as a spare vote Steve - Mercy vote/jury management - If he does something stupid re rice and stirs up the pot A lot could depend on how the 3-way RI duel plays out. Assuming some/all get to watch the duel, they'll know the outcome before TC and that might impact the vote. If it is truly a jury of 9 per this week's clues (meaning Matt's definitely on jury and more Zaps on jury than originally thought), that could shake up Rob's thinking and make him try a little harder to be nice to the Zaps.

OFG Theory helped me last week to get off Steve and focus on David, so I thought it might be a neat idea to track each promo as it comes along. The idea here also is to break down how they appear in each promo with primary (story) categories and categories for other factors. In the primary category higher overrules lower.Primary (story) categories Center of Attention Focus Appearance Group Appearance Mentioned Secondary (additional) categories Confessional Challenge Duel Reward Tribal Council Suggestions for refinement welcomed.

Andrea should be on the list of potential OFG Theory Boots. Her appearance in the promo is classic OFG Theory. Last week Rob was ready to boot her off after Natalie ratted out her and Ralph, Ralph is still in the game, so Ashley may still be a concern to Rob. There is no risk for Rob in voting off an Ometepe this week, other than they might become a disgruntled juror. Krautboy

That's kind of the point of the Focus. Ashley has reaction shots which appear to be directly about the Phillip/Steve conflict. Grant appears sitting next to Phillip, keeping his poker face, and Andrea is also present and seen moving around though less visible.

They make it look like this intense conflict will make the camp really uncomfortable for everyone, and it may be that the vote this time is about settling the conflict. From what Jeff says, TC is "explosive" -- so it doesn't blow over. With 5 men left to 4 women, It's about time where the men would normally feel like it could be time to check the female population. Julie doesn't necessarily relate to Rob's Zombies though, so they seem more like a power (or non-power) of three. I think another man will be voted out, most likely Steve, because Phillip has utility for Rob. I could see the spa girls and Grant wanting to dump Phillip though. He's no longer needed for numbers. What is Rob's rationale for keeping him other than to replace one of them at the end? I guess he has his cult sold on "and then there were two" as the next step? It's going to be surprising if anyone but Steve leaves. He's ready to go. It'll put an end to his war with Phil. It'll create minimal jury hate. All the conflict is a nice diversion for the viewers from the pagonging in progress.

LAST EDITED ON 04-17-11 AT 07:33 AM (EST)see the duel promo below ... from cap to cap there is always a gap ... this one posted at MESS by akaives shows just a bit more that Julie has a smile starting. The Ometepe especially are not happy and the applause looks half-hearted. But this could be misdirection and not the end of the challenge at all. It could be, for example, when Jeff announces the jury has just begun. Rob wanted "Matty" off before that happened I believe.

An addition to the transcript. There was something being said by a woman during the Phillip/Steve exchange, but Steve spoke over her, so it was hard to make out clearly. After listening to the 10 seconds promo, it appears that it was Julie. Corrected transcript follows.VO: Survivor Wednesday: an unexpected conflict... Phillip: "Look, you guys aren't being reasonable. With some... white folks, they like to take a black man and make him crazy when he makes an argument that you don't want to hear." Julie: "It's got nothing to do with that." Steve: "So, you're making it a black and white thing now?" VO: ... turns ugly. Grant: "Listen. He just brought in the race card." Rob: "Did he, really?" Steve: "You're a lunatic." Phillip: "Any time somebody of my color gets up in one of your faces, then you feel like I'm a lunatic, I'm crazy." Andrea: "Whoa!" Phillip: "Yeah, I think that's what this is all about between you and me." Grant: "It's like watching 'Divorce Court'."

I think that SEG is over hyping this conflict between Phillip and Steve. In this new promo pic (ty VG for the caps!), Steve is shown in juxtaposition to Steve as the primaries in conflict However if you look at this pic below, which is an expanded view of the same scene of just Phillip....you will see Steve in the background and not the focus of Phillip's angry eyes. So SEG is making it *seem* like Steve is the focus of Phillip's anger/attention. There might be several other people Phillip is upset with or someone more in particular that he is focused on. But CBS is obviously directing us to the Steve editing model.

Phillip could be looking for advice from a hawk. Or his grandfather.I do think Steve is going to be part of it, but it's more like Phillip is picking the fight. When Steve voted for Phil, he said "you are one odd duck." In the shelter, Steve says "you're a lunatic." Steve is writing Phil off as wack job, which will upset Phillip (god knows why, he's playing the part). Maybe Phillip does find someone who makes the mistake of taking him on. Ralph took him on at TC with the bird falling out of the sky remark. It could be that Ralph and Phillip get into it, while Steve is just trying to stand back and stay cool. The rice fiasco will be the original ignition point. What if Phillip says they haven't earned the rice according to his idea of the code? Phillip has gone way overboard on the tribe vs tribe thing. They're merged, and they should all have access to the supplies. In past seasons, players ate their chickens before the merge because they knew they would have to share. This thing where the camp goodies don't get shared is bizarre. I have yet to see a cap where a Zapatera is allowed to sit in one of the chairs. I can't imagine how irritated they must be to be relegated to sitting on logs when the others have real chairs. The tarp hogging, it's unreal. I think any one of the Zapatera could fire off at Phillip. Julie said in her bio that she says what she thinks. We know Ralph does. Steve is quite up front as well.

It appears that when they merged, someone, doubtless Rob, had the idea that they would keep their rice stock separate, do their own cooking, do their own rationing. Which has no backup from the rules, but this is the game where Na Onka got to steal and hide food and cooking utensils.Lord of the Flies out there, the Fuselage folks and the Others. Honestly, if I were the last Zapatera, and the rice was unspoiled, I would dump that sucker out on the way to TC. Pull a Jane ... Separate the rice and then expect to inherit it when I'm gone, I don't think so. Is there any chance at all that it's Ometepe's rice that got contaminated? Anyone think so? I don't, because they look pleased with themselves.

This season we have seen EPMB use split screens to polarize an event or question....in ep 2 vidcaps, we had this...
episode 2 asked us who had control....Rob or RussHell, then we got a shot of the boot falling down between them. Clearly, by ep 3 we could see that Rob had control and RussHell didn't. Then in episode 4 we had this: In ep 4, it was the good boy, Matt vs. evil RussHell on RI....we found out that good boy, Matt won. This episode, we have this: From the past, is there anything that we can deduce from this? One of them will win and one will lose, perhaps?

In the editing thread, I pointed that Phillip could well be on his way to the end but it's possible that we heard Rob saying Phillip was on top of his list to make us think he lost his control on the game if he has to eliminate Phillip. But I'm surprised that SEG let us hear about a race conflict. We know how sensitive they are to race issues, the African-American alliance wasn't even mentioned during all of Fiji. How would a race conflict be settled? By showing that Phillip was crazy and deserved his boot? Not all will agree. Or by taking his side and eliminating the one that was racist in his eye? That could be defamation. Either way, it could be touchy and it shows how boring this season is that they have to show this. If somehow Rob can convince Phillip that he has no choice in the matter, Rob could eliminate him just like Yul eliminated Jonathan to appease Adam and Parvati. I still think Steve goes but who knows?

LAST EDITED ON 04-18-11 AT 09:47 AM (EST)Ed to fix details FlowerPower pointed out L-) I decided to try to make a sequence out of the vidcaps This is a tentative sequence, nothing firm. 1) Phillip and Steve w/hatchet by the fire. Phillip is in the lefthand chair and the other chair is empty with Grant's shirt on it. Steve is poking the fire and has the hatchet in his other hand. Steve is walking away with the hatchet. There looks to be some tension. Phillip confessional, partly VO this scene: If you don't start none, there won't be none. If you start it, I'm going to finish it. 2) SHOWDOWN at the shelter Rob and Grant are at the fire; Julie and Steve are in the shelter. Andrea nearby. We see Phillip walking away from the fire and chair lounging area. Phillip confronts Steve and Julie in the shelter. Steve: "You're a lunatic." Phillip: "Any time somebody of my color gets up in one of your faces, then you feel like I'm a lunatic, I'm crazy." Julie: "It's got nothing to do with that." Steve: "So, you're making it a black and white thing now?" Phillip: "Yeah, I think that's what this is all about between you and me." Phillip points at Julie like he's firing a pistol. Andrea: "Whoa!" Andrea is in the area Phillip walked through, with the cooking fire behind here, and reacts. She still has the black string headband on. There is a cut to Ashley reacting, with Andrea on the side. Rob and Grant look up in shock Grant: "Listen. He just brought in the race card." Rob: "Did he, really?" Grant: "It's like watching 'Divorce Court'." (maybe out of sequence) 3) Phillip goes after Steve by the fire Present: Phillip, Grant, Andrea, Steve Phillip is getting vocally angry with Steve. Grant is sitting in the chair eating. I think Rob and Grant may have been cooking during the shelter scene, so possibly this is later as Grant has rice. Andrea is tending the fire, wearing her black headband and buff over bikini top. Steve's hands are empty. (no hatchet). Julie is in the shelter. Phillip: "Look, you guys aren't being reasonable. You've now called me crazy. Steve walks away and makes flap flap flap hand movements Thats' what happens with some... white folks, they like to take a black man and make him crazy when he makes an argument that you don't want to hear." And you know what I've got to say to that? You are cr... (azy) Steve goes over by Julie, where he makes a face showing he thinks Phil is out there. 4) Phillip confronts mystery person Phillip gets out of chair looking mighty angry Steve and Julie are behind Phillip, so he's not coming at them. He's unlikely to be after an Ometepe. That leaves Ralph who was missing in all the prior scenes. This is a somewhat different time frame than the earlier fight, because Phillip was sitting in the blue stripe on left chair, and now he's in the chair with pink stripe on left, the one where Grant was sitting. I would guess this is after the argument has gotten going full tilt, because he looks primed and ready to blow, and Steve and Julie are keeping out of it. Maybe they've had their fill. 5) Phil's Version of Coach's Walkabout Phil decides to go and chill out? He gets the machete, water, is in his briefs with the buff tucked in front to resemble a native costume? Here we see his buff is tucked in the front, and l no shorts.
Where is Ralph in all this? We have two caps of him by the laundry line. Ralph is being hidden in the camp interaction shots, but isn't absent like Natalie. He is not shown angry or fighting, but in the quick frame of video, he does appear to be reacting to something, as if he's about to reply? If the promo is trying to misdirect us by focusing primarily on Steve, I think most likely it is hiding Phillip's scene with Ralph. Ralph isn't one to tolerate too much BS, and he's not nearly as controlled as Steve. Ralph took on Phillip and his hawk feather at the last TC. He could be part of the next explosion. I'm not saying that Steve and Phillip aren't in conflict. Clearly they are, but it seems unlike Ralph for him to be Switzerland here. Ralph could be the boot because Rob needs to lob another strong person at RI.

Way to go, OFG....you should do this more often! You make a great argument that there is more than one conflict at camp, and they both/all concern Phillip. For me, all of this conflict is indeed smoke and mirrors. And, why? Because it's going to be a continued Ometepe pick off and Ralph is a prime boot contender. His presence there seems manipulated...?The only things I saw differently than you are that Andrea is not shown with her buff on her head, she always has the elastic head band, and the tribe only has 2 chairs total... The arguments could be all day long, because I do see the same blanket hanging over the clothesline behind the chairs...when Phillip and Grant are in the chairs, and then when Grant and Rob are cooking, and when just Grant's shirt is in the chairs...fwiw.

LAST EDITED ON 04-18-11 AT 01:57 PM (EST)Thanks for doing this, wow! The sequence of events is really chopped up as they have presented it. In this shot I think it is important to note that Phillip is gesturing, his hand and arm are moving up and down in a chopping motion. The pointed finger for emphasis is a way of insisting on attention just as in the beginning he insisted on Francesca's attention (I think it was her) saying "Listen to me listen to me." As for Ralph, it makes more sense that Ralph and Phillip would be at loggerheads, not as a racial thing necessarilly but because they come from vastly different worlds, more a cultural clash.

Good eyes, Georgianna! No one has seen it here at Blows! Well, this is a hard one, because there is a chance that this scene is before the challenge, it could be Andrea's? But, one thing to note is that it is hanging on the Ometepe side of the shelter...an Ometepe either has won the new challenge, OR, it's Andrea's from the last challenge. Way to go!

LAST EDITED ON 04-18-11 AT 09:50 AM (EST)*smacks head* duh, of course there are only two chairs. I thought there were two separate areas. I guess the separate living theme got me, and I assumed the Ometepe had their own fire now (and had cloned the chairs). The pink edge of the one chair is out of view in that cap. I'll see if I can fix it quickly ... Great catch, Georjanna! The immunity necklace will always be in camp, one way or another, but if the place it's hanging tells us something, that would be great. Something else I noticed, forgot to mention, is we see Grant eating (rice, I assume), but I don't see any Zapatera eating. Steve is doing a chore (hatchet).

I also looked at when he was wearing briefs and shorts -- but the the feather. He probably wears the feather to both the duel (which we know) and the IC, which we haven't seen, and of course TC. This could even be between the challenge and going to tribal council.
